rFactor 2 is just a beta at the moment and I don't think many use it real often. Beign a beta it's got quite some bugs and it takes a lot of resources to get it to look acceptable, with that beign said the FFB is awesome up there with iRacing's and the physics are pretty good, way better than GT5 but more forgiving than iRacing. Right no rF2 is a diamond in the rough.
Here's where we go for rFactor racing, you should check it out! 4hrs of LeMans coming up:

Do you reckon they'd be content to allow a controller user to race with them? I have to run a lot of aids in rFactor to keep the car's handling predictable (although I haven't started experimenting with setups yet) as it is tough to be precise with the analog sticks. Despite this I'd be happy to drive at the back and ride along for the experience, GT5 online endurance races just don't cut it for me, to actually be lapped in a GT2 car by several LMP's would be fun in itself. Plus driving on tracks like Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Interlagos would just be a bomb.

I really don't know... They run with all aids turned off so I don't know how that would affect you... The LMPC/LMP2 cars should be manageable with a controller... Sign up and talk to the guys over there, they're a pretty good group of guys!

Okay thanks, all aids off does sound pretty daunting on rFactor though! My main issue is braking - most cars for me go all squirrelly under braking, I've tried experimenting with brake bias but nothing really made a difference, although I've still yet to really get into rFactor proper as time has been short recently. Regardless I'll see what they say, I looked around a while ago and have to say the whole thing looks very well organised 👍

Hi im new here and i don't even own the game yet, but i want to play rfactor when i bought a new pc (i only got a laptop yet). So i have some questions:
1) I'll buy the dvd version, so will the game run without the disc?
2) Will i be able to drive well after getting used to the game for an hour or will i have to practise a lot? (I play GT5 with my DFGT since its release and i like it a lot)
3) Which are the best websites for mods?
4) (My most important question) I have average computer skills, so will i be able to install mods without bigger problems? This is the thing i have most fear of because i got used to turn my PS3 on and simply drive and i do not want to view tutorials and to get all the programms i need in order to enjoy my mod.
Thank u for reading all of my questions which may sound silly to you :)

1) No you need the disc in to play (well I do anyway)
2) yes - its pretty easy to get into, and I found it a bit like gt5 in some areas but you improve the more you practise but its easy to drive straight away :)
3) theres a lot - i used rfactorcentrel, nogripracing, f1classic but normally if you cant find it - ask and someone will know where it is :)
4) its a bit alien and weird at first - but after a few MOD's I understand, just ask if you feel you dont know or understand but everyone gets there 👍

Its a good game and love it - best racing game I've even bought, so I'd highly recommend it to anyone

I've always had problems with sounds.
One of the most annoying of which is when I'm just sitting in the pits, in or out of the car, and this kind of alienish sound goes off instead of another teams impact wrench. Kind of like some sort of ray gun.

Yeah, that sound also happens to me usually in online racing. When there are new players into the room, sometimes our cars are being pushed to the garage on the next door so that's when that weird ray gun firing like sound.

Do you mean the car-entering-the-pits siren? It goes off every time someone crosses the start of pit lane, and makes a bit of a "woop-woop-woop" sound that I suppose could sound like some sort of ray gun. It is kind of loud and annoying... until the first time it saves you from a crash in the pit lane. :)

Sounds can be problematic when installing some mods, particularly if they overwrite the original sounds. I always like to install everything to a back-up directory and then look at anything it's going to overwrite so I can decide what I wish to keep or not and backup anything that I'm not sure I want to lose.

Like Strawman Andy said, installing mods can be a little daunting at first but once you get used to it you start to know what to look for. Some mods do things better than others too. I'm pretty sure that you can download the original sound pack if you do lose them. I actually lost that pit-in warning sound early on. And you can always make another fresh install and copy things from there.

Can I ask does anyone have the VFR F1 2012 mod? If so can you tell me if DRS & KERS actually increase the cars speed?

Cos I can't get them working - I can open the DRS but it has no effect on handling or speed and just questioning if it works

Guess I'll have to download it now! :p. Still can't download the Enduracers 2.1 mod, the download link on F1 Classic isn't allowing me to download it for some reason.

Try going straight to Enduracers website.

Actually, in mine it sounded more like "piew!" and happened only once or twice on each circuit. I was racing in the Megane Trophy but don't know if it's also the same in other series. The pit siren is fine though. I'll see if it's happening again when I have the time to race.

Thank you jav will give it a try in the morning :) thanks

Thank you Jav I am finally able to get decent lap times and less spins. The ffb on Classic F1 is amazing and tamed the cars within a lap of Classic Spa. A few mods will need some work but very happy with the results thank you for pointing me in right direction . 👍👍

No problem sir! Glad I could help!

Alright guys, I've started a bit of a guide on how to get rFactor going with EnduRacers, RealFeel, and LeoFFB. If you catch any mistakes, please let me know. Suggestions are welcome as well.
And if anybody has a good teaser video with EnduRacers, let me know and I'm going to put it in somewhere.

First thing's first, I would recommend that you check to make sure that you make sure you meet all the minimum system requirements. It's a relatively old game, so it doesn't take much computer power. But it can't hurt to double check.
System Requirements
- 1.4 GHz processor
- Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP, XP 64-bit, Vista, 7 (will NOT run in Windows 95 or Windows 98 first edition)
- 512 MB RAM
- Geforce4 4200 or Radeon 9200
- 128 MB video RAM
- DirectX 9.0c
- 2.0 GB of hard drive space for installation
- Internet connection required for one-time activation
I wouldn't stress too much about those though, if my computer can run it without any issues, yours sure as heck should be able to as well.

So now you are going to try out a sort of demo of rFactor. It is exactly like the full version of rFactor, except you only have access to it for 40 Minutes until you need to activate the full version. This should be plenty of time for you to make sure that your computer can handle it. Never mind the fact that it is titled rFactor Lite. rFactor Lite is just like normal rFactor except it only has one car and one track. This will cut down the file size drastically. Most of the cars included you would never touch anyways.
So go ahead and click on this link: rFactor Lite Download Link
It should be safe, but it can't hurt to run a quick security scan once you're done downloading.

Now there are two paths you can take for the next step, one for if you have administrator privileges on your computer, and one for if you don't.
If you DO have administrator privileges, double click on the .exe file you just downloaded and follow the steps as instructed.
If you do NOT have administrator privileges, double click on the .exe, follow the steps, but when it asks you where to install it, choose a location that is NOT in the Program Files folder (which is the default). This will allow you to access the folder to (un)install mods and edit files, amongst other things.

That's the most important, but perhaps the least difficult part done! :)
You now have rFactor installed and hopefully working on your computer.
Find the "rfactor.exe" in the folder you just created when you installed the game. Copy and paste this onto your desktop and then double click on it.
Once the game loads, go to customize, and choose settings, then controls.
Map out controls for throttle, brake, steering left, and steering right on your keyboard (don't bother with a wheel/controller yet).
Now go to customize, and click on vehicle. Purchase the only vehicle that's available.
Next go to Control, Race Weekend, and start a race.
Once you get to the in race monitor, add a bunch of AI. 20-30 should do.
Start a race and make sure the performance of the game (FPS, etc.) is what you expected. If there is a lot of lag or FPS issues, go to settings and turn some of them down.
Try again.
Hopefully you can get that to work. If not, just post and we can work something out.

If you are able to run smoothly without any issues, you can now purchase the game.
Purchase using whatever method you would like, JUST DON'T PIRATE IT! All that does is take away from the quality of rFactor 2!

Alright, now time to download some mods, short for modifications.
We'll start with EnduRacers' Endurance Series mod.
This contains a wide variety of sports cars that have competed in Le Mans, the LMS, the ALMS, the WEC, and a few other series.
You can download it using this link: ftp://www.gentlemen-racers.org/rFactor/Mods/Enduracers_ES_rF1.exe
This should take awhile, but once it's finished downloading, double click on the .exe.
Follow all the steps and make sure you choose the correct root folder (the location that you initially installed rFactor to) when the installer prompts you.

And that's what I have so far. :)
WIP
EDIT: Wow, it took me half an hour to write all that. I need to work faster lol.

Thats awesome Gators, thanks dude 👍. Been running at Lime Rock a lot recently, it's short, but damn is it a fun track! If you don't have it downloaded, I'd recommend it for sure.
