I run it on a laptop. Don't know if its any good or not though.

Well does it run well or really badly? I really miss being able to run rFactor - so if people say its possible, I'm more likely to get it. Not a lot of reviews online about rFactor and laptops, so just trying to see what others think of it

Anyone here run rFactor on a laptop? My PC is breaking, and I am looking at laptops; mainly because they are a huge help for college work etc, but was wondering if anyone knows a really good laptop and yet isn't too expensive.
Cheers

A Laptop should run it just as well as any PC, as long as you get one with decent specs and a good video card. The lower end laptops have the cheaper Intel Mobile graphics and they can't handle much of any gaming. You need something that has a Nvidia or ATi/AMD graphics card built in, as Laptops are not upgradeable (except for a couple). You're gonna spend more on a laptop that would run rFactor well than an equivalent PC.

Well my brothers laptop is a Core i3, 4gb ram, 320gb hard disk, and a intel graphics hd card. I managed to play 24 cars, with maxed out graphics on it, and no lag or drop in frame rate. I was really impressed, but my main worry was the graphics card couldnt be replaced or swapped. I think I'll keep looking but thanks for the help :)

It runs pretty well. some tracks with a lot of objects can have fps drop, but I have most everything (display) turned up max.

The laptop is an HP Pavilion with core i5 and nvidia graphics card (ge105)

thats a good point, i forgot how old rFactor is. it doesn't need as much horsepower

That said though, if you are buying new now, may as well buy something a bit better so you can play rFactor 2 and some of these other new sims whose release is imminent.

I've been looking at HP Pavilion too, but the lower ones, so guessing won't be as good but still able to play it
With laptops game booster 3 helps quite a lot. If you have decent fps but some stuttering try it, it will fix it. Also keep your hdd defragged.

Okay thanks a lot, if I do get a laptop I'll be sure to try this :)

Well depends for me. I don't know if I will get rFactor2, and I know everything is moving now from rFactor to rFactor2, but I was very pleased and happy with the mods already out for rFactor so I'm not too bothered about rFactor (not at the minute anyway)

Thanks for the help guys, really helpful stuff :D

Thanks for all the tips above folks.

I also have a HP Pavilion laptop (a g6) with 6gb of RAM and an intel integrated card, and I find that rF runs just fine on basically the max settings on most of the tracks and mods I try, especially since I found out on here how to tell it to use more than one CPU from the Core.

Am hoping that the free game booster and free defrag software from iobit will allow me to stretch my laptop that bit further and get a smoother fps at the top level. Watch out for the game booster download link from their website though as it gives a spyware warning from MacAfee when you download. I googled and found a safer download on majorgeeks website.

If this could get me smoother driving as well I would be even happier :p

^ Maybe it's a false positive I downloaded from their site and have no problems, I use Avira antivirus and Comodo firewall. No rings no bells here. Anyway if the download works better for you on another site, use that.

Stable fps helps the driving experience, ffb is more responsive, the car behave more naturally.

If you want to keep your PC clean, you shouldn't use McAfee anyway, just a small off-topic tip. ;)

Avast or Avira, if you don't mind paying something Kaspersky or Nod32.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I have to mention it in the public if someone uses McAfee or Norton.

I have used all 5 of those programmes in different places and have had viruses with ALL of them. I go on the basis of having at least 3 different sources of protection based on advice from friends in IT, as nothing is impenetrable.

Anyway, I won't make any more comments on the matter as I think this can only be a conflicting topic. I am not trying to be antagonistic, ok, and am in no way trying to be hostile or aggressive. Peace and love man, peace and love

Back on topic - RFactor! - Thank you 👍 for all the tips on how to improve the FPS and stability and I have to say I don't know which was/were the cause for this, but things seem to be running smoother now so I am very happy and wanted to pass on my thanks (the real reason for this post). :D

Well, if you have a bad experience then you should mention it, I'm not a fanboy of any of these. I just use personal experience, advices from people with knowledge and tests.

But yes, rFactor, wohoo!
I really need to get back to my Petersberg hillclimb, want to finally finish the damn thing. But time's not on my side. 8(

Ah yes, yours is the hillclimb with the chicanery... Hoping you get time to finish it, but know that life sometimes gets in the way

Still, nice work already from what I see, worth 20m GT5 credits (which as you know are pretty much useless now everyone has everything they want )

I've got a question.

Can I run the 1994 F1 season on the 1993 trackpack? or do I have to get the 1994 trackpack?

Unless a mod forces you to use certain tracks (only experienced this with a NASCAR mod), you can race any car on any track. You can run the '94 F1s on a '67 track if you want.

Can someone help and explain what I need to run the rfdynHud?? I have the net framework, Java but still the launcher will not open (the bit to change the display)

Cheers

Edit: Worked out don't worry anymore

I know that.

I want to run the 1994 Championship, but the 1994 trackpack is non-existent. I've found the 1993 track pack though.

Maybe put all the tracks under 1 folder titled "F1 1994"?

Actually, I'd like to know this. I've installed rfdynHUD, and set it up properly, but for some reason it never works. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

First question is it not displaying when playing rFactor or does the rfdynHUD launcher exe not work? Because my launcher did not work but I'll write down what I did anyway

If you haven't got it you need Java 6 update 35 to make it work, you can check if you have it by going to "control panel" "programs" "Programs and Features" then look at the list, if its not there then download it :) I have a link, so I'll PM you it, but if its not Java you need Microsoft .Net framework - I got 4 because Im using windows 7 so if you are download the Net framework 4 client profile

Hope this helps :)

It probably uses 3D models from GTR3 so they want to make sure you own GTR3 so they don't get into any sort of legal trouble.
PM sent.
