Sauber are the only team running last years car at the first test, and we'll see the new car on March 1.

However, the team have released an "updated" livery, which is just some rear wing sponsors.

As boring as we'd expect from Sauber...

I've seen this on Motorsport.com and I was even unsure either this was a new livery or just a showcase for the new wing sponsors (and Silanna leaving the rear wing for the air intake - replacing Randstad).

I really don't get it. F1 teams don't have much real estate to work with in the first place compared to normal cars, why do they leave 60%+ of what they do have totally blank?

I'm glad they didn't change last year's one, some color on the grid for a change.

I'm with you on that one. I just wished for some minor changes. The tones of the colors and how the overall design works, they make the Saubers look like a toy car. I was hoping they'd make some small changes

Yeah they could do with some sponsors, Mclaren have the same issue.

Colours are good, it's just a dull design. Take away that solitary bit on the sidepod and it's a solid blue car. Oh, except for the token bits they added on the nose later last year.

Oh hey, its the 80's again! Any word on which 4 drivers they have signed this year?

Jean-Louis Schlesser, Mauro Baldi, Jochen Mass, and Gianfranco Brancatelli.

CNBC sponsorship means it will (probably) get additional attention in the US broadcasts.

While it's the one colorful car on the grid, it still manages to look like a GP2 backmarker.

*sigh* I really wish they would at least take notes from this:

You've got yellow for goodness sake, have a design that makes it pop.

The CNBC logo looks very odd and early 90's, the Malbuner logo looks almost 70's, and I only know IFS from their British GT involvement.

Other than that, there's literally nothing to comment on.

Sauber seriously need to sack whoever is in charge of the livery. They were completely stunned by having to do something with blue and yellow in the first instance. Then they added a yellow stripe to the nose, made a song and a dance about it in the process, and only then got informed by the internet that it looked like a mankini. Now they get a few sponsor stickers to add, and the same designer panics and just places most of them loosely on the rear wing endplate. Thank goodness they kept the rest of the car plain and uninteresting...

I wish teams could implement some sort of informal rule that all sponsors logos will be the same colour because it just looks messy if they are different ones, especially on a coloured background (it's not so bad on white).

For example Lotus managed to get everyone sponsoring their car to have their logos in Gold, apart from Total... which looked terrible.

That pretty much summarises Sauber over the past few years. They signed Hülkenberg and gave him $30 million worth of ballast. They convinced themselves that Sutil was still relevant to the sport. They signed three drivers for two seats.

It depends on whether the sponsors are willing to let it happen.

Well, maybe not go "full brazilian" (absolutely no bizarre pun intended), but I like the idea.
Sauber went from super interesting 90's designs to the most boring cars of the 2010's.

The current livery is not that bad, but it has so much wasted potential, it's a bit frustrating.

Engine cover space for sale...I get it.

This "bereft of sponsors" trend is kind of weird; at least balance it out or just go ape and give it an unforgettable paint design.

*sigh* still going with the mankini I see.

That livery was 1 of my favourites. The Carlin's had a very "busy" livery the year before, though I still like the way that the colours go together. The shapes lack a bit of consistency across the car as well, straight lines and sharp edges give way to large sweeps etc... And still a ton better than the boring Sauber we see currently of course!

The same unfortunate thought I had when seeing the front of it.

Nasr's GP2 car continues to outshine the Sauber. I'm not saying it has to be that, but they could have at least done something similar to it.

Something is amiss when the lower formula car looks far more appealing than an F1 car.
