Senna content coming soon?

Can anyone comment (speculate) on the connection between ending the online part of gt5 and this update? Is there any connection?

Coincided to tempt more GT5 players to buy GT6, perhaps?
I agree with you. I do believe it's fair to assume both were planned to go together marketing wise. What about software/hardware restrictions, or functionalities that this new content could bring that weren't possible before due to gt5? Or what I am saying is only proof of my lack of knowledge regarding the way games+internet are engineered?

Am I the only one surprised we haven't got a revised Spa from the '80s? Senna won that race in 1985!

I'm not that surprised, as that would take a lot more remodelling than the equivalent Monza and Brands tracks. Everything from Blanchimont to the Start/Finish line is completely different to the '85 version. Not only is the track layout different but even the landscaping around it is much different, unlike Brands and Monza which mainly have had changes made within the original constraints of the track barriers.

Thus, it goes back to my comments about research taking a long time. Small changes are easy to document. Numerous changes requires much more research.

For reference, I believe this is the layout in question:

i still hope they'll reveal the true icing on the cake on the 19th. The Senna fan in me wants it to be the '91 McLaren and '91 Interlagos, the race he said was the most special to him (first win on home soil, and he finished the race only having the 2nd and 6th gear). But I'd be happy to see any McLaren of his with Interlagos...

I've had another look. The brakes are rear-axle specific, as with the Jr., 100, and 125.

The axle looks to be a fully solid axle. If this is well-implemented, the kart will shunt/bind in corners as it did in the 80s. This is the main difference between 80s karts and modern karts.

So, wait, it actually is a Briggs & Stratton engine?!!!!!!!!!!

I'm excited now. All we need is Honda 200s.

Actually, I can't tell which manufacturer it is, but it is definitely two-stroke. The intake is into the crankcase, not the cylinder head. I looked it up on Google.
I'm quite familiar with that era of karting. I believe Senna used a DAP T70, Rotary valve. At the time the World Karting Championship was the 100cc class. DAP was a new manufacturer at the time and I think it was an acronym for D'Angelo Parilla (sp?). There was no clutch, it was direct drive, bump start, if you spun and stalled on the track you had to pick the kart up by the rear bumper, run with it, drop it and hop in. Loads of fun.

Here is my question, why has the FIA made the chicanes so sharp now (like a nose) compared to the chicanes in this picture and the old bus stop at Spa Francochamps that look so much better and challenging?

Edit: The second chicane appears to be the same, the Lesmos appear to be smoother and not a rough. If only Monza today and many other tracks were like the ones during this era.

I agree it would be nice to see modern cars around the older style tracks (Hockenheim and Zandvoort spring instantly to mind) but they were changed to meet safety requirements. I'd rather see my favourite drivers (or any others for that matter) live to race again should they have an accident. In answer to your question: to slow the cars down.

As danardif1 says, that would require a lot more modelling. Much easier to change one or two corners at tracks that are otherwise unchanged from the current model. I think you may expect too much from PD. It's not that it's lazy, just that they have other, more pressing things to be working on. Such as modelling the Lotus etc as well as the other features we're awaiting.

80's makeovers for Brands Hatch and Monza, the Lotus 97T, Senna's 1978 Go-kart, already more than I was expecting, well done PD.
This. I've got to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. TBH I was expecting one car, a Seasonal TT, a few pictures and a brief summary of his career, perhaps incorporated into the car description.

I hope we race the kart though and not just go up against the clock. I'd be happy enough trying to beat one of Senna's laps in the Lotus but I really want to race his Kart.

I think that all this information is cool and all but I know this isn't it. I'm talking about the updates to the game. Were's the community features, bug fixes, that Zahara track, new VGTs? Unless I completely missed something, really PD? I appreciate that PD are respecting the life of Senna like this but you still got a game to fix, and that should be priority number #1.

I wouldn't have much fun driving these cars in game were the only thing you can do is free runs (and no, I don't have time for online leagues. Online is hit-and-miss anyways). Plus I bet these cars'll be restricted in some way anyways.

Aha, it was a two stroke with the intake in the crankcase. I did think it was a reed valve system, but rotary valve it was.

Thanks JP.

Too bad that when this Senna stuff is released and everyone has played everything, they will go back to complaining about how terrible the core of the game is (unless one of the features on the GT website is released soon after, which will restore people's faith in PD, which I highly doubt).

The course maker could do something for that.

When Senna raced at Spa, there was an actual 'Bus Stop' chicane. Now its just a right and a left.

Not sure if its just the picture being extra detailed, but the insides of the wheels are modeled on Senna's kart. *Future proof

No mention of ai? Surely should see a upgrade
Whilst I agree the AI REALLY needs addressing, there is no reason to believe the release of the Senna content will be the time that would happen. Is there? I think not unless every AI is turned into a representation of Ayrton's driving style.

Could happen, I guess. As much as, me winning the lottery and waking up next to Liv Boeree after an obscene night of drinking and gambling, could happen.

The open-wheel cars in the game get that detail done to them.

This was the thought I was just having.

What they've got planned so far sounds pretty great, and I suspect there's more to be revealed. It'll be fantastic fun to play through.

But once I have played through it, there's not going to be anything more holding me to the game than there is now. The Senna DLC will be excellent fun, but it's at best a little game in it's own right. It doesn't affect the main game in any way.

Totally agree. I haven't touched GT6 in a long time now (not as long as others but it has gathered some dust on it's shelf) but the Senna content is something I've always intended coming back for. But then what? More than likely back to the shelf, that's what.

PD better follow it up with another feature soon after. (Is it greedy of me to think that?)
