Backing up data on my end with a perfectly good flash drive worked find for me! Keep trying and you'll get it. Come back here if you have any problems.
I've looked online for a guide how to back up but couldn't find anything very helpful. Can somebody please explain and/or point me in the direction of a guide?
Also, would a normal memory stick work and what size would it need to be?
1. need usb capable device (stick, hdd etc) which is formatted with FAT16 or Fat 32 as a file system
2. Plug into PS3
3. (optional) go to GT5 and press save (down left)
4. Go to XMB menu and select GT5 save.
5. triangle on save file -> copy -> select usb device
6. finished
Thanks for that, sounds simple enough. What's a fat 16 file though? And the XMB? Sorry for sounding thick I just don't want to go do something daft and wipe if all clear or something lol
FAT = file allocating table or something like this. Its how the harddisk is formatted. the play station understands only old and basic formats like FAT32 (go to your PC and right click on the USB device to format it (data will be lost !!! do a backup )
XMB is the menu structure (main topics horizontally and sub menus like settings or games vertically) of the ps
When it comes to issues like this, people really need to stop using misleading thread titles i.e. one person having problems backing up their save does not equal every single GT5 player having the same problem.

well i have for some unknown reason i thought my flashdrives were bad because all of them showed data for other games and it showed GT5 but it wouldnt let me click it, so i copied my data from my micro SD card and it worked fine, but now i got to copy it back and the copy button is greyed out, what is playstation trying to be as gay as xbox is?
I have tried several usb's and hard drives, and i cannot back up my save data this is a massive scam to buy PSN plus....if my ps3 dies anytime soon, PD is gonna have hell to pay.
