you guys starting with cars over $10,000 haven't played GT from the start, and that makes me feel old.

There shouldn't be any option to import cars at all. You buy a $10,000 used car. Just like GT1 and 2.

Or start with a car you won from Golding the licenses.

Eunos Roadster for me.

As always, I will first try to complete all the driving test with gold. Having failed that I will see if I can get any cars what so ever for "free". This has always been my starting point. I have managed to get to 75-80% of GT4 without purchasing a car, I may choose to take GT5 as another challenge.
I'm curious how you could get that far without buying something? Am I wrong in thinking that you had to complete the beginers series before the Professional Championship and all beginner and pro races before the extreme events?

There is one race there where you need a truck and to the best of my memory the only way to get a free truck is to run that event which requires you to buy a truck.

Or where you being very literal when you said did not buy a car but did buy a truck?

The license tests already give you a car for each individual test, so you can complete all the licenses without buying a car, and then use the car prizes for the campaign.

I know that but you do not get a truck anywhere except the truck race and if I remember correctly you can not do the final race in Pro without having first ran the truck race and you can not do any extreme races until the truck race and the pro championship is completed.

That said as many races as there are in the game I suppose it is possible to get 75-80% with out running these 2 nor any of the extreme events. For a moment there I forgot how many dealership events there were in the game :guilty:

before knowing standard cars wouldnt get interiors i was gonna start with a peugeot 106 gti, such a fun little car. now i gotta check the full premium list first :P

I don't understand why it really matters if the car is premium or not. I wouldn't cancel out any car just because it is standard instead of premium.

That guy over at TRPA (I think) who was chatting at SEMA got told a Civic Type R or one of the Silvia Q's will do well.

I'm going to stick to that advice.

Kaz said that starting with a Civic Type R or a Silvis Q's would make things easier for you so I'll change my vote to that.

To be honest i will also do the same. Career mode just wont feel right without a cockpit view. GT is one of the few franchises people still play that doesnt offer cockpit view. (pre GTPrologue) I personally have gotten used to seeing a dashboard infront of me. (Heck, even way back on TOCA for ps1 I prefered it). Swapping between views all the time isnt for me. My first car will be premium, and probably an mx5. I'll save the standard cars for standard physics and joypad.

Seems odd Kaz would say a Silvia Q's... a K's has always been easily within the starting budget.

I'm sticking to my original plan of "whatever gold licenses can give me".

I'll be going for bronze, lol. That way I'll have 4-5 cars in about a 2hrs span and worry about silver and gold when I think I need better cars, or if the S/G cars are something special. I don't mean NikeOne special.

This is assuming they continue GT4's whole "prize car for every trophy level" license thing. If they go back to just Gold only though, it won't work. I thought it was weird to hand out prizes for bronze, since it defeated the whole "buy your first car" thing. Just completing our licenses nets us cars? Hmmmm...

Given the whole near-simultaneous worldwide release, this game will be different for me though, since all the previous ones, we've known what the License prize cars are and knew if the pay-off was worth it. Looks like I'll be busy (though you'll end up ahead on game completion percentage).

If it's like previous games, I'll stop about half way after getting all the interesting prize cars and then focus on a series or race to get money for the other interesting cars.

Thinking of starting with an EK9.

I might cheat a bit with the money that I've accumulated in Prologue but I will only use it for minor tuning and body modifications. I'll have to resist the urge and not break the Gran Turismo tradition when I'm starting the game. And if the GT-R Spec V is accessible in Arcade I will do time trials in that mode instead buying the car in GT Life because I really want that car in my collection/garage.

I'm really hoping that I'll by able to afford a Holden Commodore (what I drive!) but if the starting credits is in the 'hatchback lane' then I'll go for a Civic.

i dont think there will be any used commodores from the start.

Hopefully my FA5 Civic Si will be in the game and affordable as a starter car, or at least the JDM CTR version. If it's not affordable, I'll go with something AWD or RWD so I can get the Civic for the FWD challenges later. If my car's not in the game at all, then who knows? Probably S14 Silvia or maybe an AW11 MR2, maybe a used S2000 or E30 BMW (Wish they'd do a 325is), or an '02-'03 WRX, since I've owned all of those.

Who needs easier?! I don't believe any GTPlanet nerds will need a break to make GT5 easier (myself included.) That's why I'd like to start with an entry level VW similar to my own that would easily be blown away by a Type R Honda.

Suit yourself though. The unique experience for everyone is what makes it Gran Turismo.

After my VW does it's work, I probably won't buy many fwd cars moving forward... that alone may be enough for all FWD series, but who knows.
