Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

Yeah, I just realised that.

Also, I've noticed that the AI seem to be stupidly quick in the GRS. Alvarez made up 5.6 seconds in a single sector where I didn't make a mistake.

I started the last championship in the triple crown a few days ago and this other fella De Vries I believe it is, is the new head honcho
He's pretty darn quick
What you mentioned though is like how I've seen this person make up so much time and pass me by seconds which is a tad unbelievable
I'll accept your challenger De Vries :mischievous:

Enjoying this game a whole lot more in Gamer mode even though now it's almost too easy. Once I complete career I can mess around in Sim mode again, because at that point I don't care if I win or lose a stage.

In other news, how in the world do I unlock new liveries? Despite maxing out the perk that is supposed to make liveries more common I still see blank cars most of the time.

The liveries can unlock with progression in the career which is a set thing but the classifieds are apparently rng. Check it religiously but can't seem to get a few

This rwd weekly is just terrible. I gave up after the 4th stage. Those rwd cars if you put one inch outside of the gravel you spin completely without having a chance of saving it.

The other one was really nice. I made a lot of mistakes, had a flat tire, but it was pretty fun.

DiRT 4 has been awarded Game Informer's Game of the Month and a score of 9/10.

Does D4 consider the Lancia Fulvia to be a 60s or 70s car for upgrading purposes when applying perks to your mechanics? In DR it was classified as 60s, but DR says it's manufactured in 1972.

I'm still pretty early into my play of DiRT 4, as I've only recently started into it and time for gaming is limited, but I've come to a question.

I played several rally events with my own cars. As soon as I could get my own car, I put together my own team and refuse to race for someone else. That meant doing several events with a single car and throwing money around sparingly. I got to where I wanted a Group A car and dropped 137,000 or whatever six-figure price it was for the Escort because I specifically wanted that, but felt a bit guilty dropping a third of my funds into a car so I went back to events I already won but ran them in Group A, as opposed to different classes I ran previously.

I got icons on the menu for a second gold medal, evidently indicating that I won in a second class. However, one is showing just one gold icon even though I'm confident I've won it in two classes.

Does anybody know of any way to tell which classes you've won events in? There were two classes available, one Group A and I forget the other, and I swear I just redid it in Group A, but I also swear I did it before a few days ago before I got a Group A car. Although, on second thought..., I might have been given a different Group A car by then and maybe won it in that. :-/ Now I'm definitely not sure.

Anyway, to the point, does anybody know of a way to tell which classes I've won events in already?

Never mind. After doing the same event four times, I've figured out why I only see one gold icon for it while on some others I have two. The events with two aren't because I won them in two classes, but because there's two locations in them. It has nothing to do with winning in different car classes.

Awesome moment in Rally Cross earlier when an AI car in front of me lost his whole front bumper - and it flicked off my bonnet & windscreen,i love little details like that! Really realistic thwakking sound aswell. This is the perfect time for Codies to make a Grid game, using this engine - i think its time!!

Ok. I can't stand it anymore. What in the holy hell is up with the landrush mode in this game? I have no real problems in the rally or rally cross modes. In fact i have finnished the rally cross, and didn't have much issues ever. I can not, however, do anything in landrush. The ai drives like it's a demo derby and i have zero feel of control over any of the vehicles.

Someone please help.

I just tried LR for the first time today, and I agree. Can't help. Not my favorite discipline.

I just got back to Dirt 4 after taking a break from racing games to play Mass Effect A.

For the buggies I set the brake bias up to about 72 to the front (almost as far as it lets me) It helps keep it stable under braking. Helps with the cross karts as well but I am not sure about the trucks yet. I bet there is a better way to set them up but it works well enough for a quick fix. I don't really enjoy land rush in D4 - sad because I remember in either Dirt 2 or 3 I had a lot of fun with it. Even online races were great.

@Spitfire77 -- I turn the brake bias up to 72 for almost everything it seems. That plus -0.10 toe out for the front and 0.10 toe in for the rear usually does the trick to stabilize cars. If they were like that out of the box I don't think there would be as many complaints about spinning out.

The instrument cluster is not displaying for me. I've always turned it off, but need it on certain cars where I can't see the dash gauges. I've got it enabled in the OSD settings and difficulty set to 'custom'. Any advice?

If you're using the cockpit cam, the instrument cluster HUD is forced off. It's only on if you use the dash cam.

Just picked this up a few days ago.

Only really bought it for the Rallycross element, and I hope they expand upon it with future DLC. :) Having the WRX license, I'd love to see them expand the courses to all the ones the series visits, even though that is unreasonable to think.

They could easily do the Hockenheim and Barcelona ones, as they already have the tracks from the F1 games.

Some fictional cars in the Supercars classes would be neat as well, using base cars from the other classes - so Hyundai and Mitsubishi from the R5 series, for example.

Perfect. Thanks much. Never tried the dash cam until today, and now I almost prefer it over cockpit view. I have driven only a small percentage of cars, but certain ones lend themselves to dashboard rather than cockpit. Even at full forward, the Alpine cockpit is too far back for my taste. I'd like to hear about others' preferred driving views.

@cjr3559 -- I require cockpit cam for anything but casual driving, cruising just to enjoy Your Stage itself. The physics don't work out that well with chase cam in this case -- which is inverted from Dirt 3, where cockpit cam was too weird because of the floaty and disconnected physics, so I was forced to use chase cam.

I prefer cockpit cam in racing games anyway; it's my best frame of reference for sensing rotation, suspension movement, and G-forces (though the cockpit cam in Dirt 4 doesn't really show G-forces), and it's helpful to have the steering wheel visible to track my input.

Now that I've unlocked the Historic Rally events the game is really kicking into gear with good payouts. As a result I'm finally assembling a decent team.

I didn't think I would like Rallycross, but I do. The first event was easy-peasy but the crosscart event kicked my butt. I'll take a little break on RX and Landrush until I've run a decent amount of the Historic events.

Said it before, but I'm really enjoying this game. The career mode is one of the best (if not *the* best) I've played in a racing game.

Just DNF'd the Monthly event at Spain. :ouch: I was running about 6:30 minute stages even through mist and fog until I T-boned a guard rail and slid down a slope on a dry/clear stage 7. What a bummer. I take it vehicle recoveries aren't available after mashing the recovery button...damn

Sorry for the constant posting, but it seems nobody is playing this game anymore?

Just made a Pro Tour event with 6 people and the leaderboards for the daily events have hundreds of people, so I think there are still many players.
I wish I knew the percentage of players using the Gamer physics though.
