Swap discs, mod chip?

yesterdaylight
i've tried it with 24 and it is harder to do, because the traces are harder to connect to that way. much easier with a delecate 30 gauge. are you mondo good at surface mount soldering ? if you have never soldered before, this is not a project for you. get a chip and a wire set though. so much easier with 30 gauge kynar

I re-did mine for the third time, this time with 26 ga magnet wire, and it was a much easier install this time around. Partially because of knowing where all the wires go from practice, and partially because the magnet wire is much easier to get the correct length while stripping only a tiny amount at the ends. I dropped down to 28 ga on the M-P wires, just to make that part a little easier, and since the wires are so short (about 1cm each) the increased resistance due to smaller diameter should be negligible.

Anyway, after all that it still does the same thing, so I have contacted the people I bought it from for an RMA. I'm going to take a pic of the install before I remove it though, as I think I outdid myself this time.

As a follow up to my earlier post, I received my PS2 back from the guy I found that did it in the LA area and it works like a dang charm. Went with the DMS4 Pro and am playing my import GT4 without issue.

Just wanted to pass that along. Give me a shout if you are interested in more information.

I am a very happy GTP'er right now :)

A final follow up on this, the chip that I ordered first (on Dec 20th) finally arrived today. The second chip that I ordered didn't have to come as far and got here on Dec 28th. Unfortunately, that chip (Matrix Infinity) did not work. However, the chip I had ordered to begin with, a Magic V +, not only works like a charm, but was much, much easier to install. 👍

nice, glad you got it working. I should've gone with a simplier chip also as DMS4 is giving me problems but allows me to play when it works! lol

anyone ever try chipmod from modchip.ca? seems to be a good all around mod with dvd9 powers and a fair price to pay for a few thousand laps of nordschliefe after its complete...

man... i wanna blame Yamauch for all about this. lol

us version gt4 should came out on same date as japanese version.

i just got a gt4 from play asia but my 2 year old ps2 which i spent $300 to modified can't read it. lol

sigh

man lots of bad stories here. :(

I think my chip is bad...I'm probably going to send it in and just get a Magic V chip or something, cuz DMS4 is just too much trouble.

Just as another option, you may want to consider importing a japanese slim PS2, it runs on an 8.5 volt system, just like the US version, so no voltage problems. I've been hearing about all of these chip and mod problems, I figure I'd spend less on a system than downtime, installing different chips, and repairs, so I imported one. It's run flawlessly, and now I play my GTC, GT4P, and GT4 without any fears of burning anything out.

yayyyy granturismoman i'm glad it works for you ! yeah importing seems to be the option of the month. i'd say if u can find a reliable person to install a chip that is proven to work, you should have a trouble free time with GT4. Otherwise, import import import ! importing sparks the economy anhow. hahah  later-

I have a DMS4 Pro now, didn't seem much harder than most chips tbh (had it installed for me). Of course it depends on your PS2, I have two v7s and those are apparently the most suitable and easy ones.
