Swap discs, mod chip?

hey neuro, i wouldnt suggest using motor winding wire. actually.. just because i've never seen it used before. kynar is the most widely used wire and it works. i'm sorry but i can't help you anymore with your chip, i just don't know anymore ! :-\ sorry ! i was looking at your picture though, you did a great job all the wires look great. the only one that i thought could be a little sketchy was.. b. check the b connection ont he board to make sure it's not interfering with the capacitor next it it, well.. vice versa. but otherwise looks great i hope you can work out the software aspect :) later-

motor winding wire is fine i'd think. It's laminated and is probably better insulated than kynar is.

I also have a friend who has a JPN PS2 so I can play if my modchip install doesn't go as planned :)

think so ? i'm interested actually. i would think motor wire defects a lot more signals, is that the right word ? where is sends signals off astray, because they are only coated in eurethane... they are meant to allow signal transference because in a motor a EMF is formed. yeah.. entirely different that what we are talking about. anyway... try em and see ! later-

ewits,

FWIW, I sent mine to a guy in L.A. (I am in NY) that had a great reputation at some of the other boards. I have been in steady communication with him and should have some pictures of the installation this weekend and the actual console by Wednesday of this week. I had him install the DMS4 Pro (confirmed to play DVD9). PM me if you are interested in keeping an eye on how this works out. I too recived my copy of GT4 yesterday and have it sitting next to me. Too bad I can't read that slick reference guide.

does anyone in the 909, 626, 818, 310 area code in so cal know where to get your ps2 chipped to be compatible with DVD9? i think my copy of GT4 is coming monday, and i want to have it chipped by then

So is there a definitive way to play this game early without spending $300 (Japanese PS2), or ruining my PS2 (trying to install a modchip)?

Are there any easy install modchips? My PS2 is V9 I believe.

Can anybody share their setups (what modchip, what region, and if you've played GT4 or not)?

I am seriously ready to just buy a Japanese PS2... Just need a bit more dough. A cheaper alternative would be more desirable though.

well you can get HDLoader and wait until someone figures out how to get it to work w/ GT4. Modchip and JPN PS2 seems to be the only sure answer for now. There is a DMS EZI modchip which is solderless but the US version is not ready yet.

NOPE. GT4 is dual layer at around 6GB. Cannot be copied even on dual layered DVDRs due to some sort of protection, or just the nature of dual layer DVDs. Only way to play GT4 right now is to own the original copy+modchip/JPN PS2 (Or asian PS2 if you got the asian GT4).

HDLoader isn't seem to be working at the moment, but there should be a fix released sometime I'd think. Best bet is to guy a JPN PS2 if you got the $$, or a modchip if you got the skillz :)

1. DVD decrypter has made an ISO of it. no problem.
2. the image is 9.4Gb
3. I have the game but not a modded system.
4. I have a japanese system so i cannot check.
5. I could burn a DVD-RAM but then I would just be waisting a DVD since I cannot check the compatibility.

Seeing how GT4 is DVD based, I would assume you need the Swap Magic DVD version. I have version 2.0, which works fine. Swap Magic 3.2 (CD based games) works for me too though. Good luck!

Ive got swap magic version 2 for my PS2, when I bought it, I wanted it to play gran turismo concept. I got the game to play however there were some major flaws, the screen ratio was all messed up, no matter what setting I had it on, and I could only play in black and white, no color. Am I the only one whos had these problems?

i guess you don't use a RGB Scart cable.. right?
you need one to play import games in colour :)

Haha, well then I guess thats the problem.... Where can I get one of these cables? That would be great. But that still wouldn't solve the problem with an import version of GT4 would it? I have been reading that the only way to play the import version of GT4 is with a japaneese version PS2

I'm about to modchip my PS2 and have a question.

Could I use 24 gauge wire instead of 30 for the hook-ups. I can't find wire that small anywhere. Shoulda purchased my chip from someone who offers free wires too.

Does it work? Is the only problem it's just harder to hook up due to the thicker wire?

i've tried it with 24 and it is harder to do, because the traces are harder to connect to that way. much easier with a delecate 30 gauge. are you mondo good at surface mount soldering ? if you have never soldered before, this is not a project for you. get a chip and a wire set though. so much easier with 30 gauge kynar

the stuff you want is called wirewrap wire well maybe not but that what we call it here in nz, it is silver plated copper, teflon insulated

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/webtronics/wirewrapwire.html might help you find what you are looking for.

its really very easy to work with and the size makes it quick to solder

hope this helps somewhat

thats nice wire, NavyAD. looks just like kynar to me. might be different i'm not sure. kynar coating is very resistant to heat shrivel, or whatever you want to call it when you touch the the iron to the wire and the sheath melts back. i think that wire wrap and kynar are the same thing, the mod sites just call it kynar instead because of the coating. nice. later-

Would it be possible to use a higher TOC game to boot GT4 using Swap Magic and CDLoader?

For example, I have to use Devil May Cry to boot one of my import games through Swap Magic because its TOC is bigger than the Swap Magic disc. I have to use Swap Magic to boot CDLoader, then swap in Devil May Cry, and then swap my high TOC game. However, I'm not sure if that's possible with DVD9s. But, Xenosaga does have a bigger TOC than GT4.

I hope this post made sense. Go to http://www.swapmagicfix.com for more info.

When I was about to hit the "buy button" for a import version of GT4 as well as on e of those Swap magic disc 3.3 I came across this thread here and thankfully haven't just ordered the stuff yet.

It seems still as if there is no 100% confirmation yet (as there is opposing reports) IF GT4 or basically dual layed dvd9 disks can be played with this swap disc 3.3.. well, some say it does and some it doesn't...

Accordingly to this guy here selling GT4 import on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11323&item=8158968109&rd=1 it should be working as he mentiones that one "can purchase a disc swap item from the website below" ...while others in this forum, which have actually tested it, clearly say it does NOT work...

Is there any furhter updates/experiences on this issue ??? Or still the least hassle to just order a import ps2 with it ?!

Cheers...

Swap magic does NOT work with dual layered dvds. This has been confirmed and there seems to be no signs that anything will be released to fix this. The only way to play GT4 atm is to either have a modchip that is dvd9 compatible or a Japanese PS2.
