That reminds me of a few others, a little older but they were good... Both based on mythology and the dark ages (I prefer the term medieval).

"Bastard" and "Record Of Lodoss Wars" (not sure about the exact name of the second one). It's been years since I've seen either and by years I mean atleast 7 years... Also, I've never seen either of them on TV before (I had to find them the old fashion way especially since I didn't have broadband 7 or 8 years ago). :ouch:
Both were entertaining and Bastard is great for older people who would recognize all the refferences to '80s rock. :sly:

You completely got me there. I have no idea that a ending could be this confusing. 60% of the show was more or less weird and i couldn't believe that it ended like this after a great start.

I'd better stick to Naruto i guess, were im good at:ouch:

I've just watched NGE and EoE, but I actually liked the last two episodes and the last quarter of EoE. I'm just weird like that I guess.

I'm not sure if anyone else here is aware of this but...

One reason NGE may be so crazy is because the actual creator has suffered from mental illness his whole life. He takes on that subject in many ways in his work and you can tell without looking for signs.

Further, some of you may know that mental illness is often amplified by stress. I imagine the stress of creating NGE was great and so it is very possible that as time went on the creator became more and more likely to address, vent, or project his own struggles with mental illness through his work.

All in all, NGE is in many ways crazy.
The subjects are always very deep and never clearly discussed. It is rare for themes in NGE to be obvious (other than a hang up about christianity and the cross  ).

All of the above and part of my own ignorance (since I don't know if there are any anime like NGE made before NGE) are reasons for my great appreciation of the series. 👍

Likewise, changing over to "Dual" gives me an appreciation for Dual simply because it is light-hearted and foolish like Tenchi only applied to a NGE-style mech combat story. 👍
True, Dual is a blatant rip-off of NGE, some combat scenes look identical to NGE. Also, it's true that Dual is clearly a Tenchi rip-off with one clutz male and several different females surrounding him in the story. However, as a "nothing's on TV show" Dual did me well. Not well enough to be a top 5 but well enough for me to watch out of boredom on anime unleashed anytime I caught it late at night (1am or so and about 4 years ago).

I'd keep your sound off for this... :dopey:

Tenchi = harem ecchi worse than Love Hina in many cases.

NGE just seemed to take itself to seriously. RahXephon was much the same way. Yet neither ever really made sense. Kind of like "Oh, this is making sense... what, WTF!? Mind failing to really get whats going on."

Or something like that.

Anyone notice this thread has kind of come to life again though?

So you're basically saying tenchi + NGE = anime blasphemy?
I can understand the complaints although I wouldn't say Tenchi ever hit the fanservice/ ecchi levels of Love Hina.

Whatever the case, I do see the thread pretty active but it happens like this and then it dies down for a while. Heck, we were just talking about how this threa is about to hit the 5 year mark, with that much time under its belt you have to assume there would be lows and highs. 👍

To 4 years and 364 days!

You watched Universe, didn't you?

The other ones make Love Hina's fanservice and ecchi look mild. The orginal version they aired on Cartoon Network years and years ago was heavily edited. Heavily.

That aside, I just acquired The Big O and Beck for watching.

Though the Engrish is Beck is making it hard for me to watch.

Any 'classics' (aside from NGE and Bebop) you guys care to recommend? I'm basically taking a crash course on all the great stuff.

I watched almost all the tenchi (everything CN aired) and I suppose the editing combined with the years away have clouded my memory. I didn't remember it being all that much of a fanservice series (even with what I personally know of being edited out). Admittedly, I never fully explored an unedited version and frankly, I didn't care too much for the series overall... Tenchi just happens to be the lighter side of anime for me, I'm sure there is much better stuff but I never take the time to find anime about romance (I just happen upon it like Eureka 7 or Tenchi).
That said, let me see if I can find that light saber battle from the end of tenchi (I think it was universe... I don't recall enjoying tenchi in tokyo as much :indiff: ).

Oh and one last thing... Greats to consider if you're willing to do more than just series...
Macross Plus. 👍 👍
Definately my favorite Macross related anime. Availible as a movie and as a 4 part OVA. Really top notch stuff.

That seems to have a bit more production value than most of what's labeled AMV 👍

Thanks, will look into it Kent. 👍

My friend recommended some of Ghibli's stuff, surprisingly I haven't seen any of their films considering they get much more mainstream attention than most animé.

Umm..Beserk, Bubblegum Crisis, Mcguyver, Ninja Scroll, Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Jubei-chan, Street Fighter II movie.

I think it was suppose to be spelled "Guyver" but that would be cool though. Don't forget Speed Racer.

I have alot of the Ghibli films and I love to watch them, you should take a look if you like anime:tup:.
And as for my top 5/10, I have watched so many animes I don't know if I could pick only 5/10:(.

Has anyone seen a anime called School days?
It seems that anime today is now going towards a novela type of stuff.
I also found another Initial D parody from various Anime titles.

^ Nice one! The one from the 2nd School Rumble (NSX vs. [R32] GT-R), Lucky Star (Subie Pleo vs.[FD] RX-7), and They Are My Noble Masters ([R32] GT-R vs. Town Car) are the best parodies. Why all the hate on the [R32] GT-R???

-> The last one made the original KITT (Firebird/Trans Am) look like an idiot.

Those ID parodies sucked........ but funny!!!! How I wish ID 5th stage would be in production already. I have totally given up watching WM and FLCL is like....

Ah, School Days. Watched that last year when it was still being subbed. I found it interesting just because it was 1) truly different than any other harem anime (I've seen it called kind of a fable, because it sure teaches you a lesson at the end.) and 2) I've never been so emotionally involved with characters in a while...even though I hated them here.

I don't think that a lot of anime today is heading down the (tele?)novela road; the dramatic ones like School Days seem the exception rather than the norm. For instance, in that genre, KimiKiss and Clannad are a lot lighter and funnier, and only have tasteful amounts of conflict and drama. School Days has enough to fuel a hundred shows. :scared:

Also, nice find with the ID parodies.

Well, just finished Death Note. I'll add that one to my Top...13 :p

I've not really seen an anime like that before, with so much thinking and scheming along with a decent amount of action, and where you almost sympathize with 'the bad guy'.

Worth a watch (...or a read, says Cody ;) )

Okay, skipping the idea of watching Last Exile again for now. Going to see if I can finish of The Third, get caught up on Shippuuden, and then might check out a few of the following:

Capeta (just for the karting & F1 connection really. I kind of expect it to be crap)
Darker than Black
Wolf's Rain
Black Lagoon
Mushishi
Baccano!
Texhnolyze
Ergo Proxy

Does anyone have any comments good/bad/otherwise about one of these series?

Wolf's Rain is good, but I feel out with it halfway through the series because it didn't have the gory action of the first 5 eps.

Texhnolyze is a head trip, I saw a couple eps and they were good.

Wolf's Rain was fantastic, easily one of my favorite series, behind anything Gundam. The ending's a bit different though. But it definitely flows with the series.

I'm glad to see Sci-Fi showing on monday and tuesday but I'm not happy with the programming at the moment due to "Tactics," a mellow drama that's totally not what I want to watch. :indiff:
None the less, more is better so for the next few hours I'm letting my TV sit on their channel (either I'll play games or use the net with music playing while Sci-Fi gets one more viewer for the sake of anime rating). :dunce:

That said, last week I caught the Original AppleSeed and enjoyed seeing it again. 👍
Can't wait to see what others they dig up. :dopey: Maybe all that stuff from anime unleashed along with new stuff? 👍

While I'm here with anime fans... Open question to all!
What good mech and anime themed games are out there?
I've done most of the mech games, some of the gundam, and maybe a few odds and ends (like Robotech Battle Cry).
One I'm interested in is XenoSaga so I'm headed off to youtube to check it now... Any way, let me hear about any games of the mech and anime genres.

Btw, I'm watching parts of that "Tactics" show I mentioned and it's an odd one alright... Some great takes on spirit combat like Inu Yasha's Miroku. :D

Edit:
After watching a section between commercial breaks, I'm definately getting the vibe that "Tactics" is very much like InuYasha in overall theme (I suppose it is a super natural fuedal japan?).

Well that depens on how "easy to play" game you want. Now I how played alot of mech games(big fan of them:drool:)
based on anime and not. As for stait mech game play I like Armored Core, it's hard to play at first but if you can
get use to the controls you can play for hours on end:). As for anime base I have only played Gundam games.
As for the ones I liked the most I have to say it's Mobile Suit Gundam Crossfire(PS3) and Encounters in Space(PS2).
But there is a new one coming out on the XBox360 that I am looking forword too:D. Here is the link-

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=t000428

Edit:
Oh I almost forgot, if you can find them two more good mech games are "Ring of Red" and "Front Mission 4".
Both of them are for the PS2, they are both turn base but still very fun to play:tup:.

Armor Core series
Front mission Series
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam
Omega Boost
Chrome Hounds
Robotech: Battle Cry
Robotech: Invasion
Super Robot Wars
Gundam: Battle Assault
Gundam: Journey to Jaburo
MS gundam: Zeonic Front( hard to find now)
MS gundam: Encounters in Space
MS gundam: Never ending Tommorrow

But there is always the other way, getting Unreal Tournament and getting certain mech skins

I think also in JPN is NGE: Girlfriend of Steel
