The Great Project Cars Whinging and Crying Thread

Defaults: Shocking.

Once you've had an hour and used all your available grey matter to decipher the options: Better

After a few more hours: Good! Even with the pad the game can play really nice, even with fast cars.

With cars like the Lotus 49 however I can't find any level of setting that stops it being a squirming crazy thing. But then, perhaps it truly IS a squirming crazy thing and that's how it is.

I've yet to try my wheel again (Suspect that might take me a decade to get right), but I find it rather odd that some decent presets dont exist, nor any instructions on which buttons need mapping/which don't - how the field of view is affected by the numbers chosen, etc

It gets better with age, for sure.

It's the car In that scenario.

Something I've noticed with cockpit-cam & sun-glares from YouTube videos. You know how most windshields have a bit of tinting at the very top ?, and many race cars have those windshield banners ?, both of which help tone-down or block the sun ?

I'm seeing videos where it seems like the sun 'don't give no :censored:s', and glares/shines through regardless. Yes if the sun isn't blocked/behind the banner/tint it'll be visible as it should be, but it doesn't seem to change once it is blocked/behind the banner, the intensity/brightness stays the same until the roof or A-pillar blocks it, completely cutting-off the light.

I've been playing with the 360 controller on my computer and after fiddling around with the setting on it, it's very playable. I have no idea how realistic it is since it's still a computer game, but it's still enjoyable and fun even with a controller. If you're looking for a more realistic experience then a wheel will probably better suit you, but to play the game and be entertained, I wouldn't let the controller thing sway you.

Cheers for the advice. I am more concerned about having fun and enjoying it, rather than the full on simulation aspect. I've been down the wheel route when I had a G25 for the PS3, but sold it as it was no longer compatible with the PS4. I probably wont be getting a wheel again!

There's a lot wrong with the in-game lighting, I was racing at Silverstone in fog yesterday and the sun was a giant white circular orb with jagged edges in my mirrors.

Is there a specific reason why the possibility to race against completely random AI opponents (not just withing a class but across categories) was removed?

Please note that detail and rendering distances in the mirrors are lower than in the main view.

I'm aware of that but that doesn't make it look any less unrealistic/ridiculous, hopefully some patches will arrive to improve the graphical consistency.

Like the track days videos Team VVV shown? these are removed?

On consoles I wouldn't count too much on detail being brought into the mirrors, as it comes at a significant performance cost (the reason why it's implemented the way it is now). However, if it's particularly eye-catching/disturbing, do you have an example or screenshot so we can forward to WMD?

I can understand that but it is quite an eye-catching issue. I'll take a screenshot of it when I get home.

Even after spending time in it, I still find saving and laoding car tunes very unintuitive.
I have (again) lost some tunes because I thought I was doing a quick change on a track specific tune and saved it. Bad luck for me it was the generic tune and it replaced the one I had spent 2 hours working on  with no possibility to retrieve it.

At least on PC, it would be so easy to have a folder and create tune files with the names we want. It was doable in GTR2 in 2006...

First of all I'd like to say I'm loving pCars, BUT, four things are annoying me (PS4 by the way)...

One. Why can't you change the allowed car class once you're IN the online lobby you've created. You can set a class when you open it but then can't change it. It's so frustrating when you've got a lobby full of friends and have to keep inviting them to new lobbies. Any word on this from SMS?

Two. Why can I not set a password on my lobby so my friends can just join it rather than me having to invite them? Really frustrating when trying to put in some practice laps...

Three. Why are there no best lap times shown at the end of an online race?

Four. Why can you not scroll through cars in saved replays? This is a feature even GT6 has and it's possible to watch other cars during practice and qualifying so why can't you do it in a replay? I was hoping to be able to make some decent highlights videos of our online championships but I think they'd get bored of just watching me...

Hopefully SMS will be looking into these at some point on the future. Just small things that make the whole experience so much better.

My only complain so far is the ridiculous collision system. In some cars you tap or bump a car and it feels realistic but now if you asked me about the historic cars like the Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600...holy ****!!!
I'm getting extremely frustated because I'm trying to race clean against the AI but a single tap from them against me makes my car fly or do barrel rolls.

Another thing that video highlights is the way the AI tend to veer all the way across the track regardless of where you or other AI cars are.

For some reason,
- I can't join German circuits, online
- Sometimes my car doesn't get off the line when the lights go green?

WHAT THE...?

PS4
Career mode
Formula A

Formula B has pitstops but unfortunately Formula A in career mode
has no stops, pretty gamebreaking and unrealistic imo. Can this be patched in?

I've refrained from outright whinging since buying the game due to the amount of fun I've been happening but figured I'd vent anyway. The lack of polish on this game is simply astounding, there are elements that amaze you and then there's a counter-element that just makes you wonder why they bothered adding it. Like Fan-chat, a cool concept marred by the pathetic 50-something 'messages' that get recycled race-in race-out...why even bother? Nobody will find this impressive and it seems like a proof of concept left in to fill an empty space. Further, Why is the text on menus during the tutorial sections so horrendously small? There is no reason for that and it actually makes me think that the coding which renders the text size in relation to resolution and screen is broken and they couldn't be 🤬 fixing it(providing they have used dynamic text formatting). I don't need to go on about the glitches too much since everyone knows about them but things like:
  1. HUD Disappearing at least once in every 10 races
  2. Cars refusing to leave the pits even when the lane is clear
  3. Spa's pit area seemingly been made using code from Big Rigs': Over the Road racing
  4. Race Engineer spelling mistakes and mis-information(when he hasn't completely disappeared for some reason after a few races)
  5. Every single AI taking 10 minutes to do lap of mini monza after I blew my engine and then somehow awarding me the win
  6. Car models flat out not loading till I'm half way up the pit stretch at the beginning of a new session
  7. Sound deciding to go on holiday during quick race weekends
are just a bit frustrating. Collision physics are also mind-blowingly inconsistent and all over the place, one minute they work fine then the next your car is flipped on its side for a 25MPH collision. There's a fantastic game at the heart of pCARS but I couldn't recommend it in its current form to general racing game fans until SMS fix the plethora of issues that exist. I know they are a small team but looking from an impartial view, when someone pays full price, they should be getting full price build quality.

Thanks for pointing out @Classic

This is exactly why I can't justify spending 400€ on a console and 60€ on a game that is "broken". I read a lot the last couple of days in here and I feel the enthusiasm but a lot seems to be ruined by the constant glitches and errors that keep popping up.

I'll be holding off till probably the "Complete Edition" somewhere next year if the quality of game has improved drastically. A shame really because this seems to be getting close to that good old "TOCA2" feel!

It almost looks like your rear tire got caught on his front fender and propelled your car forward.

i've been cringing at the typos, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors for months now. do they hire proof readers? hell, i'd even do it for free! it actually annoys me more than game bugs, there's literally no excuse to mess up text in a game, even in translation.

I understand how this does annoy you, but you do know you are not using capitals in your posting.
Not having a go at you just pointing out.

Spelling errors, hell I can bet if it were text speak, half of you would be happy and in your safe place.

Never had a cell/mobile phone so would not understand text speak, I was only highlighing the irony of the posting.
I have only just started the game and as yet have not come across these errors.

If there is one thing that is broken in this game, it's the rain AI.
I think it makes no difference for the AI if it rains or not.
Either that, or I'm too stupid to handle my car in the rain. Gotta admit, it's my first Sim with rain effects.
