And Pedro de la Rosa, who won it one year.

Japan has always been a last resort kind of place for European racing drivers to prove themselves when they run out of money or chances in Europe. Normally its Formula Nippon but some also do sportscars. Whether or not this makes those series particularly high on skills is debatable, I mean Ralf and Pedro are not the cream of the racing world.
It wasn't Ralphs last resort or chance, he went to F1 after competing in JGTC.

It's worth noting as well, that depending on the racing calender, some drivers compete in several different racing series and events each year. I've seen drivers competing in the BTCC, STCC and other series all in the same season.

Super GT (or JGTC back then) and Formula Nippon is a very common combination also.

Am 100% sure that we will see that Pink\black F1 GTR from 1996 in GT5!!!!:sly:

I'd love to see it because the LARK cars are some of my favourites, but what exactly are you basing that on?

I doubt we'll see any more McLaren models until the game is released. And we still have yet to see any RUF models, which I am very excited to see. So, there are definitely surprises ahead, and I bet we'll see 1-3 more new manufacturers.

We already have:

Ferrari

Lamborghini

McLaren

Bugatti

We might see:

Koenigsegg

Maserati

Porsche
I couldn't care less about Masserati if there wasn't the MC12...
Of course, Koenigsegg and Porsche are two manufactures that should be in. For me personally, I'd love to see Porsche because I live 2 minutes from Zuffenhausen and I see the museum daily (it's my way to school) plus I get my daily dose of the Carrera GT, new GT3 and so on...

Anyway, I'm glad to see that PD was able to bring in the supercar manufactures like Ferarri und Lamborghini. The F1 is and always will be a legend on the road and I can't wait to drive it, beautiful car. I'm so happy McLaren made it into the game. Hopefully the LM and GT will also be there. =)

Last resort to prove himself I meant, not his career ends there. Usually many of the drivers have gone there because its their only option. Lots of F1 drivers have come from the Japanese series, Irvine is another example. But the point is they normally go there because they can't find a seat in Europe, and not many teams view Formula Nippon etc as particularly high-level (for the very reason that the people that go and dominate are people like de la Rosa, who isn't anything special in F1).
Its not a slight on Japanese motorsport at all, I did say its debatable whether its not a display of skill. But many of the drivers who graduated from that side of the world turned out to be average at best. I also realise many drivers compete in all sorts of series during their careers, Schumacher, Frentzen and Wendlinger were in sportscars before F1. There's just a common trend and an image that goes with proving yourself in Japan.

To be fair to Japanese motorsport most average F1 drivers over the years have dominated in other racing series all over the world, not just in Japan.

That said I don't keep tabs or motorsport very much, so I don't know how the standard in Japan compares overall to other countries.

Indeed, that was what I was referring to, its just an image thing and an unfortunate side-effect of so many of the champions going into F1 (or other series) and proving to be so average. Combined with the fact that most huge talents get their chances in F3 and so on and prove themselves, its not surprising that it turned into a vicious circle.

Hopefully things like this will slowly change as the rest of Asia grows in motorsport. They really need a super-talent though to make it to the top in at least one discipline, thats all that is missing, so many F1 drivers and Le Mans drivers who have not made the cut, Sato was the last bright star (and even he graduated from British F3).

But anyway, very off topic

You should have a look into Maserati history, they made some very nice cars.Oh & the 250F driven by Fangio 👍.

McLaren was sort of low on my new manufacturer list. All I really cared for was Lamborghini, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Porsche and probably Maserati.

But seeing McLaren in now is amazing. I love the F1. Been far too long since I was able to drive on in a video game. (Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2).

The F1 LM was in NFS High Stakes. On the PS1 i think, i liked it was quite good.

Yup, and that was the second to last time I drove one in a game. Very good game. Too bad the death of that series was right after Underground.

Same here with the McLaren thing. Wasn't even on my radar, but now I'm totally amazed. Actually went to my friends house to play Forza 3...F1 GT on the Nurb.
All those european supercar manufactures where the last thing for me that was missing in the roster. Now they're all in expect a few, but I think we will see the rest of them also, well, maybe all but Porsche.

Again, same here. The one and only time I drove a F1 was in NfS: HP 2. My friend also has Test Drive Unlimited, which also has McLarens but I've never driven one of them.

This guy knows his stuff.

thank you. I appreciate the confirmation

^I guess the video in the first post wasn't good enough? :p

^ Lol, I just noticed that too...

IMO, McLaren's official inclusion is one of the best bits of news...

McLaren LM
McLaren road version
McLaren Long-Tail
all will need to be included!
And of course the MP4/12C as well.

I wonder if the license is just for McLaren sports cars or will they include the F1 MP4/2X?

I don't think any of us have a clue what'll be in until either PD release videos/screens, or the final game comes out.

Here's hoping we get lots of different GTR liveries though, I'd be a bit annoyed if there was only the FINA Longtail in.

I would like to see F1 GTR Gulf who won Le man race in 95 and also GTR Gulf from 96 and 97...

1995 Le Mans was won by the Kokusai Kaihatsu McLaren GTR.

For liveries, I always liked the 1998 Team Davidoff liveries as they featured in the Le Mans 24 Hours PS1 game by Eutechnyx.
