You damn right. Welcome to Gran Turismo, McLaren! Though it was the cover car for Gran Turismo 2, and though the BMW McLaren was featured in GT4, this is the first proper entrance into GT. This is a great assembly of cars for GT5. Maybe the best lineup of cars (at least, very interesting ones) in Gran Turismo history. And I STILL think this is the greatest car ever made no matter what Ferrari or Bugatti thinks. Of course, we can decide through racing in Gran Turismo 5 now that we have these three makes represented.

You said it! The car roster is beginning to fill itself out now, but my intuition tells me there are surprises remaining. But as of today, Polyphony Digital has compiled some amazing cars. So many new and improved models have sprung up snce GT4's release 5 years ago. You take a look around each region and can't happen but smile to see new rides enter the ring: The ZR1, 458 Italia, Gallardo, F1 (though quite old), VIPER ACR, and Enzo come to mind first. It's just beautiful. So many gems in one game. In the best looking game. In THE racing game. 👍

Just noticed the one behind Lewis was featured in GT3 as well, sort of anyway. 👍

Would be fun but the F1 would beat all of those except the Veyron and maybe the CCXR lol. Still fun though. :P
Unless the F1 driver can grab a decent launch, it will be hard pressed against the Murcie. SV which is just dead next to the F1.

The SV is ridiculously fast to 60, but in the Top Gear episode, the SLR beat it. I was like....uh wtf is this?

But wouldn't you agree that the McLaren F1 will beat 90-95% of production cars today? 15 years later?

Sure, the Veyron, Ultimate Aero, and CCXR, XJ220 come to mind, but other than that, you'll be hard-pressed to have a car rival it. At least in a straight line.

Ascari. A. 10.

The quote from Motor Trend was that only the Veyron would rival a Murc LP670-4 SV from 0-60. Pretty big statement. But I'm sure the CTR3, ZR1 , F1, CCXR and Enzo can give it a run for its money.

The Top Gear episode shouldn't be taken to heart. Seeing as that was Dubai, I wouldn't be surprised if the SLR had some kit to it.

Stock, the 722 is 3.5 in 0-60, 7.8 in 0-100, & a QTR mile of around mid-low 11 seconds. The SV has achieved 3.3 & under in 0-60 (2.8 by R&T), a 0-100 of 6.8 & a quarter mile of mid-high 10s.

Not so sure about the ZR1, you'd need a damn good launch to compensate for the wheel spin.

I know :(

But it still recorded a 3.3 by Motor Trend. Which is quick!

Is it that hard to believe when almost none of the cars since were aimed at the caliber of the F1? The Veyron was made specifically to take the the speed record but besides that, what cars were designed to be F1, $1M+ car, killers? F1 =/= other supercars. It's a hyper-hyper car.

No, I understand. I understand the purpose of it. It's a stripped down racing machine meant for the roads. But still, you're agreeing with me. If not many other cars are being built like the F1, then the F1 must be quicker than around 90-95% of cars produced since then, including today's machines.

The F1 can't be a stripped down racing machine. It was never meant to be the fastest car around the track or in a straight line. It's only purpose was to be greatest driving road car.

All of its racing days came nearly 2 years after it was launched.

Kind of. The F1 was ahead of it's time, not in a bad way. If it was released now, it would cost 1/4 of it's 1994 price and it wouldn't be such an icon as it is to some.
But yes, it would beat 95% of supercars out there because most aren't aimed at the heights of the F1.

How do you think the F1 LM would fare against the Veyron?

Well, top speed run Veyron would be more ahead since the LM has a lower top speed than the road car due to the extra downforce. Other than that, it's up to the driver, like it would be with most cars.

That Mclaren would lose for sure. Then again it is only 1/18 scale :)

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but doesn't the SLR Mclaren listed on the starting grid picture have some kind of option attached?

It mentions some kind of option next to its name in brackets.

Mech Wheel.

Does that hint at options being availiable? And more on topic, does that mean we can spec out our Mclaren to different models??

With equal drivers, the F1 LM would blitz it anywhere but a straight line. But, that's pretty obvious considering, again, the F1 LM is a race car at its heart.

Well it does say option after Mech Wheel (I think?), so there is the capacity for something. What that something could be isn't really known.

Top speed? Veyron.

Around a circuit? F1 LM without doubt...

You just have to compare the weight between the two to figure it out. The LM's 1062 kg (2341 lb) to the way too heavy Veyron's 1888 kg (4162 lb).

Personally I can't find one single reason to pick the Veyron over the F1 (road car or LM, doesn't matter).

It's rude I say this, but the Veyron is more like a drag racer with its insane acceleration numbers. The McLaren F1 is more like... an F1 car with lights. Getting the McLaren F1 is a huge acquistion for Gran Turismo 5. Even if you add in other McLaren F1 models (including racing variants), it's just great to see this car in this game. I wonder if there will be other variations of the McLaren F1 to be featured. Or even envision if some McLaren racing models from the Can-Am days will be featured as well.

It's okay to envision all the McLaren F1 models. However, there are other McLarens out theere, including racing versions past and present, not to mention the latest McLaren. Heck, if GT5 included some of the McLarens that raced in Can-Am, you might as well play as Bruce McLaren himself.

Well, we have had Lotus in GT4 and none of their famous F1 cars from years gone by have made it in (Senna's cars for one), so I'm not holding my breath for McLaren F1 cars.

I vote for F1LM because it's GTR just with extra power!!!! On circuit of course on drag race it's veyron...

Hours and hours of just joyriding with a McLaren F1 at the Nurb. It doesn't get any better.

One of my all time favourites makes it into GT5, it just keeps getting better and better 👍

More than that, a good 95%+ production cars are your bog standard economy to business class hatch backs and saloons. It's actually only a very very small volume of car production that makes up supercar production. And then you have to seperate the lower end supercars to thoes that are built to be amongst the best. For example, the Lamborghini Gallardo is built to compete at a certain price level, the Murcielago SV on the other hand is just built to be fast. Cars like the Mercedes McLaren SLR, Pagani Zonda F, Gumpert Apollo, Saleen S7 TT, Bugatti Veyron etc are built to go like turd off a shovel. I think the F1 would still beat most supercars today, but these new hyper cars that seem to have started to come in recently, particularly since the Veyron came out, I think would more than likely beat the F1 in a drag race. On a track it's going to be more open, the Veyron v F1 would be very interesting, I think the F1 would beat the likes of the Carrrera GT and SLR on a track but cars like the CCXR, Zonda F, A10 and Apollo would probably be too much for it.

Yes the F1 is a technical marvel especially for it's time, but for a long while no one really tried to up stage it. TVR intended to with the Speed 12, but that car was deemed to be so powerful it was too dangerous to sell. After that, I don't think anyone other than a couple of thoes man-in-a-shed type companies tried anything until the Veyron breathed life into the hypercar machine once again.

Koenigsegg was first to brake McLaren F1's record though, but then the Veyron claimed the record about half a year later. ;)

I'm suprised no one has posted this video up yet, hopefully it answers some questions :sly:
