Perhaps it's just me, but in the gamespot footage of the Indianapolis track with the Mclaren F1, it looks like it's slowing down the 458 italia behind it, if you know what I mean. I was like whaaat? It's probably nothing big though. Or again, my eyes might be deceiving me.

*edit

that's a good video.

Pfft, the Top Gear vid is a bit rubbish. Anyone who is really interested in the McLaren vs. the Veyron would be better off checking out Octane's test of the two cars written by Rowan Atkinson, who owns a McLaren himself. It's in the latest issue for those who can get it.

Wish I could get that magazine indeed! 👍

BTW, you can already by looking at the pedals decide which one is the better of the two!

I'm suprised no one has posted this video up yet, hopefully it answers some questions :sly:

Robin.
Not really, that race was set to make it closer than it should be. In an ideal test, with two equally skilled driver the Veyron would be ahead all the way and have had a much bigger lead by the end. A memvber of the TopGear production crew admitted than the Veyron didn't go as fast as it could have, but he only offered a suggestion about the weather rather than a definite reason why.

The only main tests I'd take as definites on TopGear are the power lap times. The drag races they regularly do are usuall set to be close and although the right car always wins, they make it as dramatic as possible for viewing effect.

Yep, I'll agree to that. As someone who works in the TV industry. Everything is prepared for & planned. There should be no surprises if the producer does his/her job.

This statement applies to everything including Best Motoring. Even reality TV is staged to a certain degree & then edited to our liking.

The only thing that's close to reality on TV is stuff like Home Shopping & News. Take everything else with a grain of salt.

There's a reason no one posted the video, we know better.

Well, we have had Lotus in GT4 and none of their famous F1 cars from years gone by have made it in (Senna's cars for one), so I'm not holding my breath for McLaren F1 cars.

Thats because until recently, Lotus Group and Team Lotus had no direct relationship beyond Colin Chapman starting both and holding the same name sake.
The rights to Team Lotus (and hence all its cars) were held by David Hunt. He recently sold the rights to F3 team Litespeed who then joined forces with the Malaysian government who have ties to Proton, whom own Lotus Group. The current Lotus F1 team hold the rights to the old Formula 1 cars.

So, when GT4 came out, Lotus Cars had no rights over the Team Lotus Formula 1 cars.

McLaren are not in such a situation and we have seen with the F2007 that its possible to license F1 cars from the manufacturer/constructor.

So a review written by a man who owns one of the two cars being compared? He won't be biased...

Can't wait to drive the McLaren

That video reinforces how ugly the Veyron is. It's....disgusting. The McLaren F1, though aged some 15 years, still looks much more attractive and graceful than the Veyron. Talk about the ugliest rear you'll ever see on a car! Yes, Bugatti, you take the # 1 spot in that category.:yuck:

*Cars*

I actually rather like the Veyron.

Yes the F1 is a technical marvel especially for it's time, but for a long while no one really tried to up stage it. TVR intended to with the Speed 12, but that car was deemed to be so powerful it was too dangerous to sell. After that, I don't think anyone other than a couple of thoes man-in-a-shed type companies tried anything until the Veyron breathed life into the hypercar machine once again.
Wait, so TVR built a car & then realized, "WTF were we thinking?" :p
Koenigsegg was first to brake McLaren F1's record though, but then the Veyron claimed the record about half a year later. ;)
The Koenigsegg's record relies on a speeding ticket that cites it at 242Mph. However, you have to realize that that speed would have been caught by a police radar, which, tbh, are not the best equipment for top speed verifications.

Totally agree.^^

It's the other way round for me, though I don't dislkie the F1 I don't think it's a fantastic looking car. The Veyron though imo is a nice looking car. I've seen them at motorshows as well, so I've seen them from almost every angle and I just like the looks of it. It's all objective though. One comment from SrRD RacinG, do you really think the F1 looks more gracefull than the Veyron? The F1 is not what I would call a gracefull looking car. An Aston Martin is gracefull looking car ;).

Wait, so TVR built a car & then realized, "WTF were we thinking?" :p
Yeah, literally. They had everything lined up for production almost, a few deposits had already been taken and the then owner of TVR, Peter Wheeler (a good driver I might add) decided to drive one of the final production spec prototypes home from work to see how it worked in the real world. The next day the Speed 12 was scrapped. A single road version ended up being sold a couple of years later. Wheeler paid back all the deposites and simply said that he didn't want to be responsible for selling a car so powerful it was dangerous to drive even for him.

This is the Cerbera Speed 12 by the way, not the first Speed 12 based on the 12/7 concept. That was designed to be eligable for the GT1 class at Le Mans but the car was scrapped when the GT1 class was scrapped. The original Speed 12 never got that far beyond them entering a race car into the FIA GT championship on the basis that production would go ahead, then the GT1 class was scrapped and so was the car. The Cerbera Speed 12 was created out of a desire by Wheeler to not let the 12/7 project completely go to waste and that he could still knock McLaren off that perch. As a result, McLaren wen't practically unchallenged for a few more years. A couple of dreamers came along with new companies you've never heard of before and not heard of since, but the Veyron was the next milestone car in this sense.

From the front, the Veyron looks fine. It looks sort of menacing/intimidating. I'd give it a 8.8/10. For the F1, a 9.3.
And then the rear is a run-a-way.

Look at it. It hugs the pavement. It almost looks like an extension of it. OH baby, getting me all excited over here! :p

Edit: I understand the Aston Martin comment. When I think of an Aston Martin, I do think of luxury, elegance/grace. And they are beautiful machines. But for me, the F1 combines raw speed with intimidating grace. As if it knows it can beat your car, and as if it know it's prettier too.

Not sure if Wikipedia is 100% accurate, but there it says:
Wikipedia
On February 28, 2005, at 12:08 hrs local time, in Nardò, Italy, the CCR broke the Guinness record for the fastest production car in the world, having attained 241.63 mph (388.87 km/h) on the Nardò Ring (a circular track of 7.8 mi (12.6 km) circumference), breaking the record previously held by the McLaren F1. The record was held until September 2005 when the long awaited Bugatti Veyron broke the record again at 253.2 mph (407.5 km/h)

That's the video I was referring to before. Been a while since I last saw it, and God, those two cars are stunning! I still like the F1 LM's design over the Enzo's, but they are both beauties. Not a fan of the Enzo rear though. But who's judging? :p

I love how loud the F1 LM is. I wonder if PD can recreate how deafening it is now that it seems the audio department has stepped up its game since GT4.

NoOoOoO! Do you mean because it's fast? Or do you like how it looks?

I like the looks, and I like the fact that it's incredibly fast.

Don't worry, I also really like the McLaren.

To not use TG in arguments.

I wasnt arguing anything, I just posted it because its entertaining and gives a quick overview about each car. Personally I dont prefer one or the other from a performance stand point but for looks I like the Veyron better.

I was actually curious as to why the spoiler came up in the TG vid, if this was setup fair the Veyron should have been put into its top speed mode which disables the spoiler to reduce drag.

I know its all for entertainment value but it was a decient video all the same, seeing a Veyron and F1 together can never be bad.

I don't care for either of them. Maybe because I wasn't born in the 90s so the F1 doesn't feel like it's a car of my generation or something. Both are fast and sleek-ish looking, not to me, but I don't find them as fascinating as everyone else.

Haha. It's cool. They're both beasts. Will probably be 2 of the most expensive and sought after vehicles in the game.

Why the mclaren f1 hate it was the fastest supercar in the world for how many years? It is a pure car period, no assists, no frills, it is a pure drivers car. Also after all these years it still looks beautiful and current, and i cannot stand the styling of the venyron personally.

happy as a hog in mud that the f1 is in gt5.

So has the MP4-12C been spotted yet or just the F1?
