I took unit-one and Gravekeeper's out already. I'm getting rid of everything else. With the Recommendation List gone, there is no reason to keep the album up; and it just represents me being a douchebag the longer it stays in there.

The human one scares me a bit. But I like that Fluttershy, she knows when to stand-up and be heard.

It's a long story, but the short version is that I just don't really care anymore. CoffeeGrunt's post shouldn't have bothered me nearly as much as it has been since I read it, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't what his intent was when he made it, but it did anyways.

I mostly just came on tonight to make amends with Jim after skimming through the thread and seeing how much of an asshole I was making him feel like by not being here, and to give everyone the heads-up about the Gallery/Recommendation List closure.

So what does mean Toro? You're leaving us? Personally I hope not, you have an excellent knowledge of the ponies and it'd be sad if you weren't here to discuss them any more.

There's just one thing I want to ask, why have you decided to close the Fanfic Recommendation List?

Also, I love this crazy track:

Time for a spot of the old ultra-friendship!

EDIT: Smosh posted ponies.....kind of. Well, it's a pony themed object anyway.

So, I was looking at some old 90's Alternative Rock tracks on YouTube (as you do), when I suddenly remembered one particular song. I listened to it, went to check if anyone has made a PMV using that song, and to my surprise I found that no one has used it yet. This song would work so well in a PMV it's unreal, plus I've actually planned out all the video scenes in my head. Will I ever make it? Probably not, but I'm still considering it.

And if Dylans1o is ever despirate for a song to use in one of his PMV's, then I might suggest the one that I found.

Anyway, g'night:

EDIT: If anyone really wants to know what song I'm talking about, then I'll probably tell you tomorrow.

Well I was just dropping by to see how the thread was going, but after seeing the situation that has been affecting everyone during the ongoing week makes me think that I should give my view on this. I believe and I know very well that I shouldn't do this, this doesnt corresponds to me, and is not of my bussiness, but I will do it anyway because you will find yourselves in the same situation at some point.

Coffegrunt
Confound these overdone ships taking up our time.

Have you ever thought about how many time you expend on forums and on ponies? or the reason of why you do it? These might vary depending on the person, and this arrange from simple entertainment to an escape for real life. When you think about it very superficially you expend from 1 to 6 minutes building a response for a situation or an opinion that might interest a certain group of people, but this works differently with ponies as the whole thing works more as a chat rather than a forum or an argument taking most and it some cases all your free time.

There are people who just see ponies to get a laugh, there is people who get interested a little bit more about the concept and there is people who obsess about the concept, the problem with obsessing about something is that you expend massive amounts of your time(some might argue life) trying to defend a point, make an argument or just exercise a chat.

But the problems with obsessing over something don't stop there, if you think about it, most of the people around here(clearly including Toronado) expended most or their free time chatting about a meaningless topic, the problem with obsessing over something is that you give meaning to that meaningless topic and expend more time that you should.

Getting obsessive over the same issue takes your life and you no longer know why are you doing it until the realization comes, and when it comes it comes hard. In Toronado's case was just simply the realization of the time and meaning given to a meaningless topic like Ponies. Just think about all the fan-fiction and the time he expended on reading it, reviewing it, writing about it and even writing it, writing 4000 words responses over the same issue and giving meaning to something so vague like a shipping pairing is something that has no justification and no real benefit, is indeed an stupidity.

Removing the fanfiction means that he is trying to ignore the greatest stupidity which consists on the time expended over this and the meaning that he could have given to it. Coffegrunt's post serve as a realization of the time expended on this, and Jim prower's posts just reinforce the meaning that he was giving to the whole issue, this is what really happened.

I guess that Toronado didn't wanted to post this sort of thing as it might be offensive but is unfortunately the truth that many here will have to confront at some point, I guess that I'll be seen as a jerk by posting this but I believe is necessary. Just think about the things that you can do with the time you expend to ponies, and think about the benefit that ponies provide when you use that time and effort, and the meaning that you give to such thing.

Now it will be interesting to see what will be the heading of this thread as seeing Toronado gone, I will not say that I didn't saw this coming, because I did, and I guess it was fun to chat him while it lasted.

I will say welcome  to the new guys that pop up today (sorry for this whole post-thing). As for myself, I'm not really sure but I guess I will be one of those who gets obsessed by this, and I guess that such obsession is justified in a different way that is even more stupid.

I just wanted to say this, and I guess that further arguments will follow but they will have to wait until I fulfil some other obsessions, with that said.

Goodnight everyone.

Big post.

Wow. I never thought of it like that. I have been trying to figure out what had happened but now I understand.
It's sad to hear that his obsession was so bad that he couldn't enjoy something as simple as a child's cartoon and the fandom that goes with it. (I guess it's more the fault of the fandom though).

Well... thanks for explaining the situation Akira.

Toro if you ever feel like coming back to discuss ponies we'll be here. It was fun having you here on GTP, good luck with whatever you do with your life.

Well, we have made amends, at least, so that's a good thing. I still kind of feel like dirt over this, though.

Honestly I can't see Toro staying away forever. He obviously loves the site with his 18,000+ posts and more than 2000 in this thread alone. It's hard to give that kind of stuff up. So umm... Toro if you're reading this, I'd like to see you back. I'm not attempting to force you to come back, I'd just like you to consider it after having a break. (Provided that what Akira said was true).

Jim don't beat yourself up over this.

I'm going to sleep, I'll talk to you guys tomorrow.

I actually kind of figured something like what Akira was describing would happen to some of us eventually. If you get too far in, it eventually just becomes too much, you get overwhelmed. Who knows, maybe after a week off of ponies he'll eventually be able to reconsider and get back into for the fun of it. Hell, I'm not nearly as involved as he was, and I could feel it getting to be a little much a few weeks ago, so I took a couple days with no, or very few, posts and when I came back it just seemed fresh and fun instead of feeling like a daily routine.

So if that is the reason he's doing this, which appears to be the case, I say give him time. Maybe a week or 2 away from ponies or GTP as a whole and he might come around, and even then it could be months. I guess the saying "too much of a good thing" applies to ponies as well. I'm not saying he will reconsider and come back, just that we shouldn't count him out entirely just yet.

And guys, pressuring him can just make him feel like a 🤬, so that's probably the last thing you should be doing if you want him to be able to be part of this thread because he wants to, and not because we want him to. I don't want anyone to feel like they have some kind of obligation to the thread, because that just takes all of the fun out of it. I mean, letting him know we want him to stay is good, but acting like we'll all fall apart without him can only make him feel worse.

EDIT: And now for some more lighthearted stuff. In the nightly round up #139, I knew what car Seth posted for a picture before I even scrolled down past the "Everfree Motorsport" header. It's the only car in our garage with Trixie, so it was kind of obvious.

EDIT: And more Roundup stuff, that costume contest should be good. Looking forward to some people ending up dressing as the pony dressed in their Night Mare Night Costume.

I agree Mint. I just changed my post, it was written... poorly. I shouldn't be pressuring anyone, I'm sorry.

Now it's time for real sleep.

So this is just awesome.

I got the happy ending first, and oh god it is soooooooooo happy. Like, almost tear worthy happiness. But it's just too short to really get that kind of emotional response.

Also, for after you play the game.
"I will be your friend."
"Really!?"
"No."

"Wow, you are a very cruel person"
I loled at that option.

I didn't pick it until I went back to check the endings though.

Good morning everypony!

Toronado left? It seems that we can only have a leader for about 3 months before they are driven to insanity.I wouldn't mind taking the job.

Only about a third of this is accurate. I don't care how much time I spend in this forum talking about this stuff, or (with a few notable exceptions) how ultimately meaningless that stuff is; because the alternative would be me spending that same time screaming at people in the GT5 forum, and that is a far greater waste of my life than anything we talk about in here is.

The actual problem is the same existential nonsense regarding objectivity of recommendations that has been bothering me ever since I started the list all those months ago. Furthermore, because of how pissed I was when that thing blew up with Jim, I said some things that I really should not have said so now the end result is that I can't debate the issue with CoffeeGrunt or anyone else who questions recommendations like I normally would, because it would make me a massive hypocrite and I care far too much about my friendship with Jim to jeopardize it over something so trivial (even though I otherwise wouldn't care about the triviality); so I ultimately can't defend the choices when it counts even though I want to, so the list ultimately is worthless.

So I was left with two options: Dump the shipping section, which was the cause of all of the problems regarding my self reflection about objectivity and which I specifically could not defend, and which I toyed around with doing but ultimately decided wasn't fair to the authors of those stories; or set the entire thing to private so I can reference it if need be but I'm not projecting my opinions onto others when I can't back them up. Accidentally deleting all of the image sources while I was fooling around with the Fan Fic Artwork gallery basically made the choice for me, because having those images up without links to the author's page really bothers me but I honestly don't have the time to go through and fix them all.

That basically leaves two things up in the air:
  1. If I can come to terms regarding this with Jim, who sent me a PM that I have yet to read so I don't even know what he thinks about this mess, then I can stretch my legs and debate this like I normally would; and thus would put the archive back up because I could actually defend it.
  2. If someone would be willing to help me regain the image sources for pictures, I would like to put it back to the way it was assuming Point 1 rings true.

And I would like to apologize for the whiny, self-absorbed and melodramatic nature of my posts last night (which basically amounted to a ragequit); and while I blame that on the amount of sleep deprivation I had at the time, that ultimately is no excuse. If I hadn't got on last night I wouldn't have to go back and retract most of the things that I said, in PMs and otherwise, so, sorry.

Also, if you end up deciding to keep the archive, and you want those image sources, I'd be glad to help with whatever ones I can find. Actually, either way, if you just feel like we should keep the art for the sake of the art I could look up the sources. But I'm not sure if comments stay when you move a picture from one album to the other, so I'll just wait for your decision. If you decide not to put the archive back up let me know and I can move those pictures to the General Fan Art album and dig up the sources.

So I read what akira said last night just before I went to bed, and I can understand some of the things he mentioned, plus after what Toro said, I now understand why the fanfic recommendation list was closed.

I'm also glad to see Toro hasn't abandoned this thread all together.

I don't want anyone to feel like they have some kind of obligation to the thread, because that just takes all of the fun out of it.

This was exactly what I was planning to say. If you start taking things regarding MLP far too seriously, then that completely removes the fun factor. The whole point of this thread and the program on which this thread is based on is to have a little fun, joke about MLP related stuff, discuss the show or whatever. I know that I was a little too serious when I was talking about RD, the Wonderbolts and AJ the other day, but I just do that sometimes (plus I was tired and didn't read everything Toro and Coffee were talking about beforehand). If I ever felt that I have some kind of obligation to this thread, then I would take a short brake from it, come back in a few day and rage after discovering the thread has grown by 100 pages start afresh.
