it snowed today not far from my home. First snowfall in about 3 years. Melted in less than an hour.

Psssh, it already feels warm-ish today. I was pleasantly surprised walking to my car this morning, and I'm looking forward to the walk back to her after my final class.

I believe the news said 34 today, mid 40s tomorrow (but windy). We'll be sticking above the freezing level for the next week or so, and I'm pretty much giddy!

Apparently they took the rain out of the forecast. What a great weekend to have winter break! Looks like it'll be just as warm over on the other side of the state where I'll be too.

We very, very rarely get snow here. It can be blizzarding 15 miles away and it's always either clear or dry and overcast over my town.
...
Took that picture from my doorstep.

Just had a day like that here.

While most of the county was covered in 6 to 8 inches of snow, and one town received 22", there was none on the ground here. The snow line could be easily be seen about a mile to the north, and less than 10 miles to the south.

Took that picture from an upstairs window.

That's a pretty cool picture. I don't think I've ever seen a snow line that was quite as abrupt. I wonder how that happens...

UK roads at a standstill in Exeter;

It appears from that photo that all they needed to do was slow down and avoid hilly areas.

FEAR THE 1 INCH OF SNOW!

I drove my car to work 3 days ago in conditions worse than both of those pictures and although it took a while I got there with no drama because I didn't drive like an idiot and didn't rev the engine to high heaven. When are UK citizens going to get a clue? (Although fair play to the people who stopped driving when the snow got to 10" deep  )

I see the problem. Everyone's driving on the wrong side of the road.

:sly:

Sadly, the problem is worse than that. Everyone round here seems to think that the solution to sliding on snow is to rev the engine as hard as possible and use full steering lock. I've left my car in the garage over the last 2 days for fear of some idiot sliding into it!

It could be worse. They could all have 4WD and think that means they can drive as if there's nothing on the ground.

Of course, around here everyone having 4WD also means you likely know someone who has a plow that they can hook to the front.

I wanted to hook a plow to the front of my 500 to prove a point to the locals. But that's easier said than done. ;) You know why a lot of the roads in the UK can't be plowed? They have speed bumps on them.

So now the councils' ideas of 'traffic calming' have come back to kick them in the teeth as residents refuse to go to work as the small residential roads are unsafe! It's an absolute shambles!

Nice to know you care abouth the australian population. What if you were 80 odd years of age and leaving the house is not as easy as you think it is. Then the power goes off in the suburb. HHHMMM Supermarket probably has no power also.

If you're really that bad, you can call an Ambulance and they'll take you to a hospital that's air-conditioned, even if you're just in the waiting room.

Have you british people never heard of winter tyres?

I'm wondering what would happen if british people + norwegian roads during winter = ?

Rained the last several days, quite steadily, off and on. Now, It's wet, but not raining, and DAMN cold! Around 51 degrees! Too cold!

Going outside soon to shovel off the snow from my driveway since it's nice and warm at 25°F and should be going up to 35. :D

If we had Norwegian winter roads and Norwegian winter weather for the length of time you have it, we'd be prepared for it. Down here in the southern end of the UK, this year is the first time in my life - I'm 22 - that I've known more than 3 days or 2 inches of snow in one go (we're now up to a week; the most snow in one go this week here has been 7 inches). Why bother buying a new set of tyres for 3 days or less a year, if it snows at all? Personally, I've had no trouble in the Volvo on normal tyres.

Its actually been pretty nice here, above freezing for the past three days. Yesterday it was sunny and nearly 50F, enough for me to walk around in shirt sleeves. Its a bit cooler again today, but it'll be nearly 50F again tomorrow.

Spring is (kinda) here!

You know you're from the UP if above 20F is considered warm weather! :D

It's been sunny and in the 30's the past few days, time for some snow to melt dangit!

Because it is so big it just goes through the snow and onto the tarmac. On the other hand the mini would be quite "light" in snow, wouldn't it? :D

Of course we have, but it's pointless spending that much money on winter tyres when most winters we would never use them. It rarely snows here, and the last snow I remember like this was back in the early 1990s. If it snowed here like it did it Norway then of course we'd all have winter tyres and be more prepared for it. As it is, it snows so rarely it doesn't make financial sense.

Took these on my way into work this morning... enough snow to make the place look pretty, but not too much to make it a PITA 👍

We have freezing rain on and off for the next 16 or so hours followed by snow.

FK, if you haven't had enough of that already, head on up! :P

It's going to be so warm here for the next 3 or 4 days that I put my summer tires back on. Sweet. But then I'm going to have to take them off and wash them up again when it goes back to being winter.

I'm good. But thanks.

I spent half the day yesterday cutting up the tree in my front yard. I didn't get finished before my chainsaw got the innards all clogged with sawdust and it started overheating. The sawdust had even started to block the chain oil flow and my chain started getting loose. So, I had to stop to open it up and clean it out, I decide at that point the combination of my back aching and my chainsaw getting fidgety was a sign it was quitting time. I had been at it for nearly six hours.

Of course, it could be a sign that the Home Depot cheapo electric chainsaw special may not have been the best idea. Meh, it was intended for cutting up the occasional limb, not multiple entire trees.

Today it is getting up to 69 degrees with rain. I didn't even wear a light jacket this morning.

Its shockingly warm here as well, currently 45F and cloudy. But, its windy, and its enough to require a jacket. But, if its going to be partly sunny and 60F tomorrow, I'm willing to bet there will be shorts worn... Not by me.

Rain and 55 degrees this morning. No more salt on the roads, which means I can wash my car and have it stay clean.

Thankfully it didn't drop below freezing (34°) so the roads are still just wet. Tomorrow morning might be a different story, though. It's hard to tell because of how the cell is spinning how much more moisture, in whatever form, we will receive.
