I managed the Gold with no assists at all using the pad; however, it took probably about an hour, a long time for me as I'm an old hand. I came second god knows how many times, eventually managed to come first by about half a car length.

I was very tempted to turn ABS to 1 - this cleans up corner entry massively, but having tried for so long and feeling that it was doable with no assists I stuck with it and just about pulled it off.

I have to try this! I have almost given up on this challenge because I couldn't keep the Lotus straight.

Why's everyone struggling with this event? I turned it on, did 5 attempts where i hit cones or spun and got a feel of the car and then next attempt bang, got the gold with a decent margin using the stock settings. I'm using the DF GT and find the elise great fun to drive.

I did it in reverse while eating a hamburger and talking to my grandmother on the phone.

It's a tough challenge, don't belittle everyone because you're apparently the 3rd son of Jesus.

I really loved doing this challenge last night. Like others have said, the real challenge was wrestling with the car, which I felt very rewarding. I loved the feeling of going sideways round the outside of the 11th placed car then through the inside of 10th place all in one tyre screeching skid through the first corner, wow! Is it me or could you feel the tyres really deteriorating half way through the second lap? It made it sooo hairy in places.

I hate this challenged so much. It's utterly ridiculous. That car slides too much, and stupid AI allways goes one line, if you managed to get into their way they will push you. Where is their braking. It's one of the things that i totally hate about most of the car games, and i was thinking that there won't be this BS in GT5 but it's here, and it makes this game to be a bit of pile of poo. Sort the sh.. out with the game!!!

I thought the Beginner event was hard :guilty: in those stupid VW buses... but what an accomplishment it was when I finally got the Gold.

disappointed with the top gear test track that was unlocked tho, no standing start, and i really thought they'd make some fun out of it with the "star in a reasonably priced car" (none of the reasonably priced cars are available in arcade, or maybe they need to be unlocked, i dont know)

As hard as it was, at least it was a good challenge for me. I must have done this one at least 20-30 times before finally finishing 3rd...

I was merely trying to get the point across that you need to concentrate on learning how the car reacts and adjust your driving style to suit it.

Just passed the last car @ the last turn "gunbol" or what ever it's Called.

GOLD :)
Thanks for sharing the settings guys. That was a big help.

Well... wonder if u guys heard about a rFactor mod called Historic GT . Its a blast. So far i´ve saw the comments about the handlind of the elise ( didnt drove it yet ) and it reminds me driving ANY of the cars present in the rFactor mod. No Traction Control, no ABS, just loads o fun , with jaguars and ferraris ...lots of power, no assists.

I think i will love elise... :)

I spent about 40 mins on this challenge last night, could not even finish it due to disqualification for spinning off the track. I found I could not recover the car when it started to oversteer. The revs kept dropping and I couldn't feather the throttle and guide the back end back into line.

I realised that the stupid traction control was on. So I turned it off, and instantly I could control the slides much more easily. I then finished 5th with no problem. I will try again tonight to get the Gold, since I was too timid out of corners to overtake the top cars.

Traction control is for wimps :)

This took me like over 50 times to gold but I did it. I'm using a pad with no Tc 1 abs everything else off.

This challenge is definitely harder than the expert challenge. The expert challenge is just a big joke.

At first I had a little trouble with this one, only managing a sliver. I stuck with it and after about 5 tries had the gold. On my 4th attempt though, I was in first by far, but bumped a tyre shooting out into the straight and was disqualified.. I was very pissed off. I barley touched the damn thing.

Just did it in around 15 tries, TC 5, Skid Recovery on, ABS 3. Here's my breakdown.

First corner I go from 12th to 11th. You can go straight to 10th here but it's pointless, because you'll be too close to the cars in front and it'll force you to break on the next turn.

As the cars ahead turn towards the Tire Wall, there's a perfectly sized gap in the two cars ahead for you to accelerate through, overtake a bunch of cars and hit the brakes next to the Tire Wall. You should now be in 8th place.

Curving around Chicago you can sometimes bounce gently off the 7th place car into his position, but staying 8th works too.

As you speed up the runway towards the Hammerhead, stay on the right of the cars ahead. Brake slightly later but less aggressively and take the Hammer head as tightly as possible. It's possible to bounce off 4th place into his position as you exit the corner but again, not essential.

Keep up a good speed past the Follow Through and Tire Wall. Gently press down on the gas until you feel you've reached the limits of the grip. Cut the grass corner as you head back onto the runway but don't hit the cone. You should be going full out right here.

On the second to last corner you should be right behind 3rd place, and he slows down a lot so it'll be no problem overtaking him, cut the corner very slightly but be weary of potential disqualification.

Last corner/Gambon, overtake 2nd place. Again, no problems here, textbook stuff.

Now you've got the whole of the final lap to overtake 1st place. He's no more talented than any of the other racers so you've got a bunch of opportunities, first corner, Chicago, Hammerhead, Second-to-last corner, Gambon... just relax and bear in mind he's gonna be taking all of these sections as slow as hell, so you don't need to panic and spin yourself out. I managed to overtake him on Chicago and once you're ahead there's practically no stopping you.

i just finished it after 20 tries
tcs at 4
asm on
skid recovery on
front breaks 9
rear 5

I won it on the default setting, and aids off. It was certainly a tough nut to crack though. Good advice non the less, I hadn't even realised you could adjust the cars settings.

i think its meant to learn and work/experience with different settings in the game.
because it was pretty easy with abs at 10 and tc at 0,...i never run with abs higher then one.
for the first time in gt i used steering aid,...but it was necessary imho

This was a pretty difficult challenge with all assists off and must admit I had to crank the TC on to 3 and ABS to 2 to get gold but frustration got the better of me!

To those who think that the Lotus should handle better in real life - this is how relatively high-powered mid-rear engine cars handle. It is particularly twitchy at the limit, even if the raw numbers are good. And, as others have mentioned - it's got economy tires. That's the equivalent of all-season tires, and crappy ones at that.

I got gold on this (countless tries) with ABS:1 and that was it, no TCS/no ASM. I have a g25 wheel, so that helps.

Going into turn the first turn don't try to pass the first car on the inside just yet. Instead, line up that first bend and the turn-in point for T1 so you can brake in a straight line. Contrary to what others have said, you can nail the brakes full-on - you just need to do it in a perfectly straight line. After nailing the brakes, make sure to get down to the apex cone of T1 and pass the first car. It will look like you are about to go around this car to the right, but he doesn't turn in as hard so you can cut across his bumper and sneak by on the inside. If you don't get down to the cone, you will be slow coming out of the corner and heading into Chicago.

Through Chicago, pass the next 3 cars. No braking needed, either coast or go to ~25% throttle to weave your way to the left of the 10th place car and the right of the 9th and 8th place cars. Start braking for the right hander about 1-2 car lengths before the row of barriers on the right. Stay tight to the apex and use all of the track out (row of cones) to stay smooth and GRADUALLY ease into the throttle. If you did this right, you should be in 8th place and on the tail of the 7th place Lotus.

You head down a long straight into a dog-bone shaped hairpin. You can brake hard for this in the middle of the large white stripe that runs across the runway. Make sure you are lined up to the right of the 7th place car. You will blow past 7th and 6th in the braking zone. Stay tight to the right, using all the "legal" space without hitting the DQ cone as you finish the turn, passing the 5th place car, and again easing on the throttle down the straight. This is a particularly hard acceleration zone where the car will be stable when you first get on the power, but then start to lose grip when you get higher up in the power band. I find that I use about 75% power, then back off to 40%, and then ease back in to 100%. The AI cars have some sort of super-human traction control so ignore them and do your best to get the power down.

These next two turns are very tricky to maintain speed and control. I found an extremely touch on the brake and gentle turn in, making sure to reach the apex cone, was the best way to take the right-hander. After that you ease into full power and stay flat on it through the left hander, using the entire run-way to track out. If you can feel the car getting twitchy, make a gentle shift into 5th gear.

Heading into the last 2 turns I take a very inside line, cutting off distance. I turn in just before the braking zone and point the car towards the apex of the first left hander. Very gently through here because the 4th place car takes a bad line and slides around, potentially hitting you and ruining your lap. Pass this car on the inside in the small straight between this turn and the last turn that leads to start/finish. If done correctly you should be in 4th place as you accelerate smoothly (although this seems to be the easiest corner on the track) through start/finish.

Lap 2 you are basically driving with minimal traffic. Line up T1 the same way as before, gently hugging the bend before the turn in to brake in a straight line - if you are sliding around this bend, it's over. You have to be extra careful through here as you may be carrying more speed compared to lap 1. Through Chicago you don't need to brake, just an easy lift if anything. Again, same braking point for the right hander and into the hairpin. Make sure to stay smooth through here, and focus on your line, don't get focused on the 3rd or 2nd place cars. You will need to pass them in one of these corners, but you must remain absolutely smooth to keep the car straight and get the power down coming out of these important corners.

You should be in 2nd place once you are heading out of the hairpin towards the 2 fast turns where the track crosses over itself. Try to carry as much speed through the right hander without losing the back end and stay on the power through the left hander. I again take the inside line heading into the last 2 corners. When I finally got gold I made a slightly dirty move to the inside of the 1st place car, bumping him a little bit and JUST creeping across the finish in first place.

Yeah my first run was like.."WUT." But after awhile you know what to expect. I like the challenge. Although, it is excessive with this car.

I FINALLY MADE IT. Thanks to this Thread :D Many desperate tries. Then i turned on Skid Recovery and won gold on my third try (1. try was 4th and 2. try was 2nd).

I didn't find it that difficult and I beat it (gold) without any aids or adjustments. You just have to compensate your driving for the crappy tires.

Finsihed this last night after about an hour of trying.......gotta say I though it was a freekin awesome test. After initial disapointment with the way the car was handling it actually became more and more fun the more I tried it as I got used to sliding the car around :)

Towards the end I was throwing the car from follow-through and past the tyre wall fighting for grip as it slid sideways imagining myself in best Jeremy Clarckson voice shouting "POWEEERRRRR!!!!".

once you get a feel for the car it's damn good fun :)
