For those that enjoy trying to get their personal best time, fantastic.

I'm just saying that a more challenging gold time would add to the enjoyment for most people.

Look back at the last expert challenge. Look how much people enjoyed them. Even those that struggled. And then when you get the gold it felt great.

I admit it took me many trys to gold the Scoobie challenge, and it was great.

Way back in the early seasonals I never did gold the R35 at SSR5. That car at that track on those tires just got the best of me. And I wish it was still up so I could try some more. I'm a better driver now, and I think I could beat it. :D

I like every challange but it would be fun if there you could compare with others. Just as it is in tt and dt. But I do like the thought about a A-spec who is really hard to gold in.

The problem anyway will always be that for some these gold times are already a great challenge.

The solution could be more prizes for every 0.5secs or so that you gain. So there would always be something to aim for, game prize wise. The lower you go, the money would get bigger & bigger. I'd like that 👍

I'd take that.

Scaling prizes based on race difficulty (car/pp used) does sound good. 👍

That way, there is a little reward for challenging yourself and shooting for lower times, even if you do not intend to try and "beat the world". ;)

You are 100 percent correct. The problem with a ton of people here on GTPlanet is that they assume that everyone is destroying the time trials.

That is pure genius on your part. An unending supply of credits. 👍

LOL I cringed when I saw that the benchmark car for Suzuka was the 2J, so i got the gold in the R35TC DLC car and really enjoye driving it, even though the 2:18 was easy to beat.

Then the 2J was wheeled out so I can see how I compare to everyone else. A 2:04 and 772 in the Euro region was the reward. I reckon there's some more in it, but I just hate the 3 speed box on that thing, so will probably leave it at that.

Yep that tranny is so hard to get used to that I just put it in auto. Snagged a 2:03 on lap 1 and called it good, even though I left time in every corner.

Goes back to the whole hamster wheel thing.

Hmmm, easy time trials? I got a 2:03.1xx with a completely stock Challenger SRT8 using a DS3 on Cape Ring... took me an hour to get to that time. Engine must have been getting broke in nicely! LOL I will try the other one tonight with some other unpopular car. It'll take me at least an hour, but I'll gold the thing if it kills me.

:) I wouldn't get much bonus money, but that sounds like a great idea. 👍

I understand the concept of using less car. See here.

That's what I do on all the seasonal events. Try to find the worst car that I can still win the race with, rather than detuning a car to the required PP and smoking everything. Not as much fun to drive around in front of the ai, that's what practice is for. I'm not trying to be an elitist or anything, it's just the way I enjoy playing. I DO use RS tires on everything, though... I need it with SRF off. I can't steer softly with the DS3, it's not in my nature. :sly:

Anyone else finding the Cape Ring rather difficult? I'm still a full second off the gold pace... any more pushing, and the dumb FR cars just spin the wheels. Even the FF Focus ST would lose rear grip... I'm guessing the people with 2:5x times are using wheels, and MT. It's a little more difficult with controller and AT. I noticed everyone was using the Camaro '10, so figured the "Edge Special" would be even better. Maybe not?

I used the Edge Special and it took a few tries but I got it. If you want to use the Camaro, you might want to take some weight off and play with the suspension. The Edge Special is pretty good stock, but its still quite heavy and doesn't like to change direction quickly. After the right had sweeper at the start of the inner sections you have to be careful entering the tight left, it gets really squirrelly there.

I actually tried it in the Shelby 350GT before switching to the Challenger... Didn't make it through 1/50th of the track before I went red. Squirrelly may be a huge understatement for what the 350GT was doing. I'm thinking of adding some weight to the back and giving it another go. I'm always up for a challenge!

There are some cars that the topdrivers are using. Shelby, ford gt and the camaro. The camaro is not expensive and fun to drive. If you dont have the money you can send me a friends request and I can share those cars with you. And the 2j if you dont have it. Good luck:)

Thanks, I got the camaro but nether bothered tuning it, gave it a go & managed 2nd on about 3 laps so will keep trying with the mint green & black monster.

I'll add you when next online :)

Camaro SS '10
Viper SRT10 ACR '08 and other Vipers
Shelby Series One Supercharged
Corvettes
GT40s

The bulk of the Leaderboard so far is using the Camaro SS '10. I have also read about detuned Vipers, Corvettes, and Series Ones working well. 👍 I would also expect that some can do it in a Cobra.

Thanks :) might have to give the vipers a go, missed the shelby a few times in ocd but will pick it up next time round.

Thought there would be some secret American lightweight track monster out there, something like this

That is a modified Lotus Elise/Exige.

The American lightweight track monster is the Ford GT ... well its not really lightweight, but it is a track Monster.

Thanks. I realize now I didn't do any tuning whatsoever (it comes in at 498PP stock, I think), which probably makes all the difference. It may be better to take a low PP car, and tune it up to 500PP, rather than use a stock 500PP car.

I'm currently in the 1500s with a stock Shelby Series 1 on Cape Ring and in the 5800s on Suzuka in a Ford GT. I love these. :P

I have used the Edge (actually my B-Spec bobs) a lot so it is fully broken in. I think it's up to 508PP so I just had to detune it a tiny bit.

Almost 20 hours in and I just fell out of the top 100 an hour ago. I know I can improve about 1-1.5 seconds if I have a good tune and I don't make any mistakes.

Got a 3:01.9 in the Ford RS200, so I'm happy. Max tune got it to 499PP. I'll admit I was amazed at how much this monster little 4WD slides as well.

Wow... the DT is a complete and utter piece of !@#$
I can't even break 3000 points, let alone 7000 or so required for gold. There just doesn't seem to be any good line I'm taking. Oh well, I never liked the DT's anyways. They can sit there and rot :D lol

Know how you feel, I suck at drifting in GT5 the only car I can drift with is the Dodge Ram & I messed with settings so can't even try that anymore :(

Ok, its quite a bit more than just a modified Elise. Might count as American since the HPA Golf counted as an American car in GT4.

Don't forget that the Ford RS200/Escort Rally car (cosworth) are American, the mini 1.3i is German & the volvo count as European cars. :scared:

Back OT What is the least conventional non grinder car this TT can be done in?

Maybe a pickup truck or an FF like the Focus or SRT4? Understeery cars make those corners tough to manage IMO.

My first attempt was in the SRT4, thought I'd mention that. Think I got somewhere around a 58ish

Sports hard on a 2J...I want what drugs PD are on
And it gets a bit depressing when you are 4 car lenght's behind the ghost car before turn 1 and nothing i do changes it.

Care to elaborate on your vague statement?
One, that's a player selected car, not a PD mandated choice.
Two, It's a lovely combo, What's wrong with it?

Here is my current 2J setup. Works very well at Suzuka - I adapted it from the previous Spa Wet Time Trial. Only thing you should watch out is a bit of oversteer at some corner exits, but it only happens if you reaaally push it and even then, not much of a problem.

Transmission: 196 MPH seems to work out fine, I didn't really bother with the transmission.

LSD: 8/15/10

Brake Balance: 4/6

Suspension:
Ride: -10/-09
Springs: 18.2/20.0
Dampers Extension: 9/10
Dampers Compression: 8/9
Anti Roll: 1/2

Camber: 2.2/0.8
Toe: 0.03/-0.12

Just as I mentioned before, I started with a base of Praiano's tune and modified everything to my liking (The Toe setting for example is his, haven't touched that)

Currently residing on #54 but that's with a pretty messy lap. Bombed at least two of the corners. With a nice controlled lap, I should hit the mid to low 59's.

Nice! Gonna try this now. 👍

Edit: I can't now, I don't have a 2J and none of my 90+ friends have it up for download :(
