I'm basking in my 5th place finish. If you could just extend the podium a little on either side I'll pop on.

Although it was quite lonely for much of the race things began to get much more interesting towards the end. I quite liked the car, good job tyre wear was off though because there would have been a few flat spots!
We seemed to have a pretty good start but I did notice Simba's car looked a bit dented quite early on.

Since there is still quite a choice I'll take number 28 Lotus.

Good race Sick, Joe, Don, don't know what happened, where I went wide at chicane. I was getting close at the end. In practice, was terribly, spinning everywhere, it is quite tricky. Think I was braking to much.

Joe are you having to calibrate your wheel after, every update?

I really need to share this because I'm so angry and sad for what happened.

Both the car and the circuit were new for me, so it took few hours to get used and nail it.
Wasn't really fast, but could aim to 5th position, which would have been a good result for me.

Green lights, good start, and....BUMMM
It hurts when you spend hours to do something decently, and not even having the chance to enjoy it....

Race report:

Had a good practice and qualifying where I set competitive times.

Then the race started and right after the lights were green I was passed by @lancerevoo and @Tavilha. I honestly don’t know how could I have avoided that. If I had started before I would have jump started. Anyway, the worst was to come.

After that tried to catch them to no avail. Lost the car and then @Friday_GTRP passed. Had a bit of action with him but wasn’t able to keep his pace. Car was all over the place.

Lost it several times more. In almost every corner and in every way: braking, coasting mid corner, exiting, going fast, going slow... I felt helpless and utterly out of control of the car. If you asked me right after the race I would have said the old real life racing driver excuse: The car was to blame.

I still can’t understand how it went so wrong on a car that I know well and I connect with so well.

Congrats to the winner @Tavilha and @lancerevoo for a great pace. Shame about @Antares87 disconnect

That's a bit of a downer @Antares87 :guilty: First lap too. Although I suppose there's not a good lap.
You had me worried watching the video for awhile because I thought maybe I'd hit you.

(I actually pressed my special - disconnect driver ahead - button after you overtook me.)

@IBZ6L20VT John said he had to calibrate his wheel after the patch. Perhaps this affected you too. Although you say you had a good qualy. Odd.

Sorry for you DC

While watching your replay I can't understand why I got DT penalty, because me and @Tavilha started simultaneously right after green light :(

And another thing - after few laps FFB on the wheel almost gone, don't know - tyres lost grip or my wheel started fadding. In the prerace lobby I didn' have this problem. Did anyone else experienced that?

I still don’t know what went wrong. Sometimes it felt that the snap oversteer was caused by a sudden steering ghost input but it’s hard to tell. When I spun in front of you I was lapping slower than you, just trying to bring the car home and lost the car mid-corner anyway.

It’s easy to blame the car/software when maybe I should be looking at myself. Going with manual gear changes and clutch wasn’t helping either.

Looking forward now to next week. It will be a very tricky combination.

I will try to post a lap at some point, if I find the time.

Oh, I wondered what had happened to you.
Did anyone else experienced that?
Now you mention it there was a period mid-race where the steering got lighter. I put it down to perhaps the tyres or maybe the livetrack in action - In places I noticed that the track surface was getting dirty where drivers had returned from the gravel. Quite a clever bit of programming.
The grip seemed to return later on.

It will. I had a quick go last night.
Now I haven't driven at Longbeach before or been in the 98T; it didn't go well. Let's say it was a good job I had the damage turned off.

(much) More practice required before next week I think.

For me - not.
Probably it was my wheel fault. FFB was very light on this car so I rised FFB to 80 (earlier I used 70 and gain 50), maybe it was to much and wheel overheated (forced cooling is always on), but another way - I didn't have problems with theese settings in practice.
Most of my online races were with GT3 (usually - Ferrari) and I always have problems at Spa - wheel is loosing FFB right after 2 laps, but there no problems at all at any other track. So I am a bit confused :(

The wheel calibration has been fine, it's the pedals that I've had problems with. After 4.0 I realised the calibration was out just as the Monday race started – I quit then recalibrated and they seemed ok in single player. After installing 4.1 yesterday it was worse still, I spent the whole of the practice session trying to fix it. This time recalibrating the pedals alone didn't fix it – the brakes were getting small 'ghost' inputs even though my foot was completely off the pedal, while the accelerator wouldn't stay fully open, hovering between 90-100% with pedal fully depressed. I made some tweaks to deadzones etc to mitigate the problem enough to race, but my inputs still seemed to be spiking a lot more than pre-4.0. I'm sure that didn't help with driving such a twitchy car, where smoothness is vital.

I wasn't expecting much from this race as I haven't raced at Nurb GP since GT5 (a very different experience!), so when practice was written off by update installing and recalibrating I was fully prepared to welcome disappointment with open arms! My apologies again for the hasty track rejoin that took you out mid-battle @Sick Cylinder, I'll make sure I'm looking at the right part of the track map before rejoining next time :dunce:

I also had the complete loss of FFB mid-race – definitely a game error rather than a livetrack thing, because it happened suddenly mid-corner and took a lap or two to build back up, and only did so when I kept increasing volume (I have the FFB volume mapped to the D-pad on my wheel) – maybe that's why yours didn't come back @Napalm_LT? It felt to me like volume reset to 0 but tone remained. Quite annoying because it made it even harder to predict the handling! I wonder if the various issues we experienced between us (some shared) had anything to do with the room being quite full?

Anyway, on to the next one. Had a quick play in the 98T after the session, crazy thing! I guess the 190E was a good training car in the end...

I was sharing live on YouTube?
It certainly wouldn't help. Live sharing takes up a large part of your upload bandwidth and this is used to transmit your cars positional information to others. You might initially appear to lag or if it goes to far out of sync the game may well disconnect you. It might also be affected by other internet users in your house?

Most people have much faster download speeds than upload but upload is quite important for gaming. Mine is still on old copper wires so when I'm racing I make sure all other devices are off (and sometimes turn off the WiFi) just to help with what bandwidth I have.

Back in shape I decided to give the 98T a go.

A lap good for 1:10.100 with 1:09.xxx definitely achievable. Clutch+manual gears. Tried the paddles but was slower :dunce:

It’s going to be a truly hard championship. I picture a difficult race, keeping the car off the walls for 30 minutes.

Very impressive driving DD!

With a short lap and a difficult car there will be a lot of lapping of slower drivers, probably from about one third distance onwards - it is vital that everybody has the proximity arrows and track map on so that they can tell when they are about to be lapped. All drivers please make sure that you do this in both the Monday and Wednesday series.

If anyone wants a change of pace from the brutal power of the turbo Renault engine, we have a couple of spaces in the Monday series with the jewel like Lotus 25 and its tiny Coventry Climax V8 - next Monday is Historic Spa in the rain!

@Antares87

what I noticed is that I had been invisible for you and I couldn´t see you. Dont´t know if there was an contact until your dc?

I felt a light bump (visible in my video) in the first corner, I think it was a green car with golden alloy wheels, don’t know if it was you. I’ve seen that there was a car missing in front of me, but I think it then reappeared after first corner.

Their was a bit of lag at the start, Antares, then stopped.

Hi guys,

I had the chance today to visit the Ginetta factory. What a morning! Really good stuff. You don’t get that many chances to visit a racing car factory.

They showed us the different areas with a brief explanation. We had the chance to look at the newest LMP1 stripped, from the safety carbon cell to a half-built unit. Also, the usual G55 GT4, GT3, cup, junior, G40 GT5, G40 GRDC...

Some parts are brought by specialists (The mentioned safety carbon cell for the LMP1 comes from Italy) and the engines (Ford 1.6 4L, Ford 3.7 V6 or the impressive Chevy V8 LS2), although the final tune is done at Ginetta with some parts being upgraded.

The rest is pretty much done there by the seventy something workers, even the carbon fibre bits. They produce an average of a car per week and have clients from all over the world.

It has the feeling of old school, handcrafted engineering. They feel like a big family and treated us really well.

Nowadays, there is an entry level championship with the G40 for around £25k. That covers everything. They take the car for you to the track for the eight races and all the associated maintenance and running costs are included. Pretty good if you manage to get a small sponsor.

I got the chance of getting on the driver’s seat of the GT4. Amazing. To be honest, their visibility is not much better than the one we have in game.

Following, some of the pictures I took, mostly of the G55 we drove in the last championship.

Enjoy!
