Well, I'm a Gibson guy. I like the shorter scales and the fact that all of them are mad in the USA. I also like the way that they're made with mahogany and they have set-in necks.

I'm a Gibson guy too. Your avatar is a Melody Maker, right?

I've got a 1973-vintage Gibson L6-S. It's a bit of an oddity in the Gibson world. Image a Les Paul built like a Strat - solid painted body, maple neck, funky pickup switch, but single-cutaway shaped like a Paul.

It needs new pickups and some general electrical massage, but it's really cool: it's got a 6-position pickup switch that varies the balance and the phasing of the 2 pickups. It can sound like anything from an SG to a Strat.

No, actually it's a 1957 Les Paul Junior.
I just realized that, actually. And I edited my post to show a pic of my guitar. Mine is painted red, either by a previous owner or (possibly) at the factory, and then repainted later.

Wow, that is quite an oddity. It's a pretty good concept, but I guess it didn't last.

I started off a Gibson lover, including a SG and a LP. I then discovered the wonderful world of chambered guitars a la Eddie Van Halen and Billy Gibbons.

Currently, I own various makes and models, but all are pretty much ignored for my EBMMEVH. No guitar feels as comfortable to play. No guitar sounds as sweet and toneful to my ears for my style and equipment used.

I like my gibson acoustic. My electric hardly counts toward any difference in brand-preference.

My friend LOVES Daisy Rock guitars and basses, though. I've never tried them.

I play on a Dean, but I'm partial towards the stratocaster and les paul type designs. I absolutely love PRS guitars but that's more for the look. I haven't played with one myself to have a solid opinion

next guitar related purchase: a new amp ($350 upper limit). I'm looking at the Peavey Envoy 110 or the Peavey Bandit

No, he's a perfectly straight dude. He has a daisy rock (forget if it's a bass or a guitar) and he's says they're awesome. Shrug.

the gibsons are obviosly very nice, but they are so expensive!:scared: I prefer the Epiphone Les Paul's, they run great and look great for like half the price

Well, the best guitar I've ever played was an Ed Roman Quicksilver at their warehouse/store in Las Vegas, NV. If money was not an issue, I would get one of those.

Here is the one I played:

As far as mass-produced guitars go, I would have to go with PRS. For me, they have everything I want in a guitar:

Plays good
Sounds good
Looks good (less important)

I am very happy with mine, a Custom 22.

Well, I don't actually own a Gibson. I own an Epiphone. They sound really nice, though.

Had an Ibanez Iceman for awhile, not a bad guitar and has that 'metal' look. I adore PRS as well, and almost picked one up, but then my purse strings tightened. As I sold all my musical equipment to move, all I have left is a little Samick slimline acoustic/electric. Great feel and it was inexpensive.

I prefer an Epiphone or a Gibson. I used to really want a Fender but I've grown fond of epiphone's and Gibson's. I have a black epiphone DR-100 and I'm in love with it. Hopefully my next guitar will be a Les Paul.

I'm a huge Les Paul fan. However, I'm not a fan of the price... I currently own a busted Samick, but I'm thinking of getting myself an Epiphone Les Paul Custom.

Another design I quite like is the Randy Rhoads V. Which is odd, because I can't stand any odd-shaped guitars like the Flying V, Explorer and anything B.C Rich make...

I had a really nice list going but I hit the wrong button and lost my entire post.... ERRRRR!

Anyways, for guitars I would say Fender for their "Standard" tone and for the abundance of aftermarket mods that are available for them. I like Gibson's for the silky smooth, milky tones. I especially like the "Clear Distortion" you can get out these when running through a boutique all tube amp like a Doctor "Z" or Soldano for example.

For bass, I love these companies for love of the instrument and dedication to wood! I guess bass is lot more flexible for wood choices and aren't affected as greatly by different woods so the variety of woods selection is amazing.

The following is a very incomplete list of companies that have done this:

www.beebasses.com
www.sadowskyguitars.com
www.kensmithbasses.com
www.warwickbass.com
www.glguitars.com
www.modulusguitars.com

And the best for last:
www.roscoeguitars.com
www.mtdbass.com
www.warriorbass.com

Like I said, this is a very short and incomplete list of Bass manufacturing companies that fit that "Favorite" title. We are fortunate enough as bass players to have so many good companies to choose from.

👍 👍 👍
I wholeheartedly agree

right now I have a Drive Wildfire Combo pack, and an Epiphone DR-100 acoustic. But im going to buy a Drive wildfire X3 soon.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Drive-WildFire-X3-Electric-Guitar?sku=513459

I like Drive's for some odd reason. They sound pretty good, and the X3 looks so nice, has a set neck, pearl inlays, tune-o-matic bridge, and from what i read in reviews a pretty nice sound with the proper amp. and the X3 is only $149 So i thought it was a steal.

If i had the extra cash, I'd be getting an epiphone les paul standard. But I have to get a bigger amp before our gig in august, so Id rather get a good amp for now.

Ok, my father owns a Lespaul but still, I'm a fan of Ibanez. 👍
