For the older members here: What degree do you have? And what kind of job do you have right now?

It's always interesting to see what kind of degrees people got and how, oftentimes, people work in totally unrelated fields.

Right now I'm studying a subsection of English called Technical English and Writing also I'm working on a business degree and a minor degree in German. I know for whatever reason I enjoy school. Oh ya I go to Oakland University in Rochester, MI.

As for my job currently I'm an intern at General Motors. I will more then likely end up in the auto industry as a technical writer. Eventually I will open my open custom shop, hence the business degree. And the German minor is just to make me more marketable, and since I know German fairly well to begin with it's been pretty easy to work on it.

I have a BA in telecommunications and I am currently a project coordinator for a media reserach company. the degree got me in teh door but I am more focused on the business aspect of the job than the media part.

I don't have a degree yet but I'm 2 steps away from getting an economics & informatics bachelor degree. Need to pass only 1 (maybe 2) courses and get my thesis graded. I'm student @ the Erasmus university Rotterdam.... getting pretty tired of it though.

I'm still a scientist, working as a postdoctoral researcher. After my degree I worked in an office (Insurance) for 2 years, and had to leave because I wanted to go back into science before I became too settled (or before I forgot my entire degree....) It was the best move I ever made, even though it is financially crippling to quit a job to go back to Uni., but it was worth it in the long run...

It's a b-comm and for technical stuff, it's a bloody waste of time. I'll definately be going to a technical school afterwords to get more advanced techie stuff.

I was 95% certain I wanted to be an architect when I was in 10th grade. I went to Lehigh because it was the best school I got into; the problem was it didn't offer an accredited professional degree program. Architects have a professional internship/exam path they must follow before becoming licensed, and Lehigh's degree wouldn't have qualified me. Of course I didn't know this at the time.

So I needed a minumum 5-year degree (Bachelor of Architecture) which would have meant 2 years of grad school somewhere other than Lehigh. The Masters program is only 3 years and is of much better standing if you ever get back into academia, so I just went for it.

Yes, I am, doing commercial work, though I have done residential work as well. I like both but it's hard to make money doing residential work.

Drop me a PM sometime and tell me what you're thinking about, and I'll offer whatever advice I can. But the short form for a high school student is to take all the visual arts and, just as importantly, English / communications classes as you can. Being able to speak and write clearly will be a huge advantage.

It's a good field, if not as glamorous or lucrative as it looks from the outside. But very satisfying in many ways.

Well, I have a mean nothing AA (in Architecture) which just allowed me to be admitted into the masters program in Architecture. Its a 2+3 program. (More like 2+4)

I also have a A.S. specializing in AutoCadd. I am also working on finishing a A.S. in Construction Mangement.

I am currently working for Architectural Firm that does Hospitals, Schools, and Librarys all over the southeast as a drafter.

I also worked for a major home builder as a drafter before leaving Orlando to get my masters.

Where did you study?

I'm just (hopefully if I get the grades) about to start a B.Eng. (Hons) in Motorsport Engineering at Coventry University in October...if all goes well.

That is so cool.

I always wanted to go that way when I was younger but later discovered I didn't like to study the natural science stuff like math, physics etc. that was required.

I currently have 2 years left for a 5 year degree in psychology/psychotherapy (most of it with a practical application). I'm not 100% sure at the moment how I will use it but it will probably be in work with adults in some form of non-institutional health care: psychotherapy, individual- and group supervising and medical inquiries. I do plan to open my own practice later after mabye 5-10 years of work.

When I come out of my time and assuming all test work is up to date and everyone is happy I should have earned a National Certificate in Machining and Toolmaking Level 4.

Lots of thermodynamics there. That's a good area - very exciting. You'll get to play with fire, and the math is wonderful. I always had a soft spot in my heart for good ole thermo. You'll learn about entropy and enthalpy and the 1st and 2nd laws... ah good times. Remember the phrase "adiabatic process".

I was 1/4 away from getting a BS in Industrial Design but apparently I guess I'm not gifed enough in that area so I changed it to General Design and I can still try and get a job in the field.
