Dude cut the drifters some damn slack.

Is it faster? No.

Is it more reliable? No.

Does it take alot of talent? No.

Does it make you a better driver? No.

Is there any practical purpose? No.

Is it fun? To them, most definitely.

Fun is what life is about you get one chance, let them have their fun. I honestly haven't seen anyone say 'But drifting is only for teh real 1337 racerZZZ' they just say its for fun.

in GT3 i have two sets of cars
Drifters set up just for drifting
Racing set up for racing

i do both regulary and do them both well

i do both in reality aswell and i can tell you now

drifting does take skill
drifting does make you a better driver

if you say drifting doesnt take any skill (and i mean real drifting not step it out a bit and say oh im a drifter)
then you can say rally doesnt take any skill, which is not true

Drifting doesn't really make you a better driving, and there's something different between "drifting" and "rallying"...The main thing is that the different surfaces that people rally on ARE NOT made for grip, and the quickest way through them is to powerslide through them.

No problems here. And welcome to GT Planet, if I didn't say it earlier!

Is it over-rated? Yes.

I just feel sorry for the guys whole drule all over the concept. If you wanna do some real drifting, move to location with either a lot of snow or a lot of desert.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to slam the drifters,... some of you just need to know when to quit with all the "it's-so-hard-and-takes-so-much-skill" BS ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome Duke :) I have a question though...how do I do more than one quote in a post? I know double posting is bad so im trying to avoid it. Thanks. :)

Being over-rated is an opinion. To you, maybe drifting is over-rated. But to drifters, its not. Its as simple as that.

Snow and Desert would be great for rally, but not drifting. Drifting requires that you have a certain amount of grip. There is a HUGE difference in rally and drifting. Denying that would be naive(sp?).

I agree to some extent with you there. Some people take that a bit too far. But you cant deny that it does require some skill. And it is difficult. It takes a while to learn how to do it. And thank you for not slamming us drifters. Were not trying to slam you. :D :D :D :D

Der Alta, a stock miata is NOT a proper car to learn drift on...go to our forum and get Cudaman's settings for the RX-7 Infini III FC. (how to drift guide thread) i dont want you to use drift in a race, because that isn't where drift belongs. if you can make a full lap on apricot hill with that RX-7 whithin an hour demonstrating proper drift technique, you're the wisest man in the world. if you can't...you have to keep trying so you can learn to drift and appreciate it for yourself.

I wish you luck. :) And I hope you enjoy it, but I doubt you will. This is what drifters call fun. Let us have our moment of joy.

OK,... I'm working now and have golf tonight until 9,... should have it up tonight,.... tomorrow night at the latest.

Also,.... if you could dig up a replay from the previous comp this was run at, AFTER I complete mine,.. I wouldnt mind comparing them ;)

BTW,... what track?

Disc Golf

I like ball golf more,.. but it's too expensive now that I'm all growd' up :(

On a similar note,... why do (some of) you guys insist on always using particular settings? Is it because of rules,... or because they are the "suggested" to be the best?

LOL  My dad plays for his work's "team". All they do is go out and play a round of golf every week. No competition except with themselves. As long as they are enjoying themselves. Thats all that matters. I can hit the long ball better than my dad, but i RARELY play (5 times a year at the most, including trips to the driving range). I go with my dad to the driving range sometimes to practice a bit. I drive the ball anywhere between 250-265 yards. I managed to hit one about 280 one time. Its just cause i have an Orlimar Trimetal driver and im pretty strong anyways. *shrugs*
But cars are my thing. Dad says he is buyin me a car for my senior year.(starts in about 3 weeks :( ) We are thinking about a 97-98 240sx. I like them pretty well, although they are powered by a weak truck engine :(. Dad says, "well you dont need power. youll just kill yourself." But hopefully im gonna drop in an SR20DET, TEIN coils(flex series) and some TE-37's wrapped in some proxes. HOPEFULLY. Then I will take it to the track from some events. Show my true skills. *sigh* But that wont be for a while. Im just stuck in my moms 97 camry for now :banghead: :banghead: 133 screamin horses :( , but it gets me where i gotta go and i drive the hell out of it. Dad installed tubeless tires on it though, so i cant push it too hard. Wait.....Am I rambling?

Im still waiting for Der Alta's attempt at drifting

If you take a look aback at my post, you'll note that I said I would tackle this tonight. And that is still the plan.

thanks for getting the settings outs out for me. ;)

As a follow up note, my challenge to the drifters wasn't taken up. Which means I'll still pound a stake in my theory and stand on it.

I believe that the majority of drifters can't race. They get to a point in GT3, and instead of learning the skills to race, they start drifting.

The challenge was:
The 17,000cr Mazda Miata add Sports tires, and oil change and win the roadster enduro. If you want my break down look here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/t-25786.html

I'll save my replay from tonight and upload it. Maybe send it to RER and have him convert it?

Agreed. But as soon as I read "It takes more skill" and/or "It's faster", I speak up.

Well, certain setting are good for certain styles. If you set the car up stiff in the back, the tires will loose grip easier, which makes powerover drifting easier(i think) but controlling it is harder, because it will want to come around quickly. If you set the spring rate very low, the car comes around slower, and to me is best for brake drifting. Diff set ups are better for different styles.

And Der Alta, I was just saying i cant wait to see your video. Ive actually been looking forward to seeing the video. I just hope you see how we think its fun. and learn to accept that we like it, and be happy for us.

I have raced other people in grip and drift and never lost either. Maybe I need to race some1 from these boards. I also said I got 1st place in the time trails and lisence tests because some other guy said that most drifters aren't good at grip. Oh, and if you want to, give me any track any car and your best grip lap time with that car on that track and I will try and beat it or at least come close to it.

I definately think you should race someone from these boards,... namely me. If your up to the challenge,.... just name the car/track/due date. I'd hate to say someone waltzed in here spouting about a perfect record and I didnt try to do anything about it ;)

PM me a challenge and I'll take you up. :)

I'll let milefile handle this one,.... I know he's itchin for some competition,... I'll go back to dealing with the speeddrifter challenge from page 4 :)

BTW,.. we're highly respected in the entire OLR world,... you dont have to worry about us cheating because we dont need to,... we've already proven ourselves to be honest. And we'll also, in our grand knowledge of the game,... be able to tell if your cheating,.. so, keep that in mind ;)

Tell ya what,.. if, by chance, you DO beat milefile,... I'll race you in the comp of your choice. Pick what car/track/license/time trial/whatever your best at,... then I'll give you a shot at the belt ;)

So Red, you are the champion grip racer here at gt planet. Cool. Now i get a chance to become champion :). I'll get beck to you with the race> I'm probably gonna choose one of the arcade time trails. Oh btw, I would never resort to cheating. If you beat me, you beat me.

BTW,... if you do decide to make it a time trial or license (something that has an easily obtainable 'fake time',.. meaning, you can just goto a times site and read the top scores),.. I'll most likely require you to provide specific "sector" times.
