winning those lessons.

The 'ring, without a doubt. Possibly the best version to date, on consoles at least. The Day/Night cycles are pretty impressive, and GT5 is at it's best when you're on a wet ring and it's night. One of the most thrilling yet terrifying experiences you can have on the game.

The UCD. A very imaginative move by PD and one that I like a lot. It adds rarity to a car and is a lot like real life with the fact that it doesn't have every single car at any one time.

Sarcasm?

I like the huge variety of online play. Yeah, most of the time it's crap, but that 1 in 10 time you find a great room with great racing makes the rest all worth it.

The way the cars drive. Just compare that to
shift 2, or the nfs series there both rubbish compared to the master that is gt5

Nope, I like the fact that you can't buy the car you want at the time you want. A bit like real life.

It's nothing like real life. Certain cars might be rare in real life and not always available but the vast majority are not. As a random example I could easily go out right now and find hundreds if not thousands Ford Ka's to buy. Plus hundreds of the other normal standard cars. In GT5 I can buy one of 20 or 30 cars at a time. It's a terrible system.

But you may not find a Ford Ka on the forecourt of a garage within around 10 miles of yourself. Anyway, each to there own and you have a different opinion to it.

I like this too, the rarity is nice, I just wish the cars were premium quality.

The complaining. It's hilarious.........

Kidding, the detail of the cars, definitely.

What has distance got to do with it? There is no distance involved in the game.

I personally feel GT5's strongest point is it's physics. To me they are the best on any console right now and I feel physics are the most important thing a "simulation" racer can have.

Please stop arguing. This thread is for peoples own opinions and if you disagree that's fine, you don't have to feel the same way someone else does.

No to mention, since everyone who plays GT5 can become a millionaire, they'd probably have no probably shelling out an unreasonable amount of money for a car which could attract owners, as well as paying other people to search dozens of used car dealerships for a particular old model in good condition. They could also buy, commission, or build replicas.

If only PD felt the same way. The physics can't be perfect, but something should be better than they were in GT1.

What good is a forum if people don't argue? We're not out for each others' heads, we're discussing.

Un-BE-lievable.

Umm.. Is this serious, or..?

Quite serious, and also a minor typo. Should be somethings (plural) and not something. There are things that have improved from GT1, but some things have not or are just subpar at this point, like aerodynamics, tire grip calculation, and some of the limited options available in the tuning menu (this has actually gone backwards in some cases).

OK guys. Discussion ended. SimonK has the last word because I couldn't think of a comeback.

Mate it's not about come backs or arguments, I was just having a conversation with you. Maybe my posts come across as argumentative but they're really not, In my mind I'm just having a debate/discussion as I would if I was with you in person.

OK. As you can't really portray stuff like that in writing it can be slightly difficult to perceive. Now to keep this OT, the PDA that PD recently added is fantastic.

Yes but they are new cars - that are always readily available - which is like the NCD.

Used cars, like say a specific BMW or something aren't always at a UCD in real life and also in game.

I think that's what he meant - just adding my opinion into it.

No I was talking about used cars, I could probably find thousands of different used BMWs for sale in various ways. In fact I put it to the test. BMW M Coupe 98. Found one straight away an autotrader. I'm sure I could do the same with most common cars in GT5, which was my point. Common cars should always be available. Rare cars in reality can still be rare.

The only thing I'll give GT5 is the detail of the premium cars.

The illusion of driving something complex is the best part of this game. The connectedness, the complexity of the variables which need to be mastered to get the best of the game. Turn off all the aids, and take a powerful FR or MR vehicle to the track; any car with perhaps 600hp+ and Sports Hards. The skill required just to keep the damned thing on the road is excellent; the challenge is fantastic.

There is so much to learn, to master! I love doing a lap or even a few hundred yards in such a beast without aids, reasonably well (after having played this fairly solidly for some 18months, i have some basic skills), then handing the controls to a newb, and watch them desperately trying to control the "monster" i've just handed them. They end up crawling round at about 50km in 1st gear and still sliding around all over the place. Haha.

I am constantly amazed at just how bad I am, how hard it is, and that thrills me, because it's always my fault, I am not screaming at the game because of it's deficiencies or glitches, it is invariably due to my error, and spurs me on to try just that bit harder.

I've said it before, but i've never enjoyed coming last so many times so much! Once you truly connect with the driving experience, whether you come first or 51st makes no difference other than on a self-gauging level.

Overall it's the depth and complexity of the combination of variables which go to make up the driving experience which is the games strongest point.

And that does not just comprise the physics themselves, but the whole experience (inside car views, the sound - engine, wind, tyre - vibrations, track views and graphics, the other car views, and the physics itself)

One thing i would LOVE to see, would be the ability to actually walk around the car, like in an FPS, prior to driving it, then actually approach the door change to interior view, and maneuvre the car to the starting grid or out of the pits, or wherever. This would enhance the experience so much!

Variety.

Cars,
tracks,
seasonal events,
A-Spec to Arcade to online,
Noob to alien,
Vehicle types (F1 to go-carts)

It may not do everything perfectly, but you gotta admit it can do alot well.
