But will it blend?

Someone was gonna say MX-5 at some point. To which I raise this:

VW Golf.

At my school at least, the popular thing for parents here to get their kids are Volvo 850s. Don't really know much about them...but they're very common... Along with Jettas. :/ (Not really my suggestions, just an observation.)

Agreeing about the "too much power for a begginer", but the V8 conversion only adds about 200lb and a 1/3 of that is over the rear wheels.
http://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/ It beat their race Miata by 4 seconds.

It's really down to what you prefer I guess, personally I'd rather not have the V8 but it seems there's a market for them so a lot clearly feel differently about it.

My friend had one (a MK VI), he lost £7k on it after two years, I have another friend trying to buy one (a MK II), he can't find one for a reasonable price that's in decent condition.

Again it's what you'd prefer, I personally don't see the appeal in a relatively big front wheel drive car (Surely an original Mini is better for this?) yet I do accept it would be more practical than an MX-5 due to having more seats and passenger comforts.

Grand Vitara. I've heard so many flattering words from many people for that car. It can't be a coincidence. And a used one is rather cheap too.

I'd not call a Golf a "relatively big" car. Even a modern Polo makes a MkII Golf look small. The MkVI is much bigger obviously.

Pick of the Golfs for new drivers would be the MkIII and MkIV versions. They're comfortable and generally fairly reliable - though whether that reputation is echoed in the U.S. with its Mexican-built VWs is a different matter.

4-seat
Easy to work on
Good aftermarket support
<300hp
Naturally aspirated
RWD > FWD > 4WD > Motorcycle

Of course, this is with a car enthusiast driver in mind.

Yeah i'd say a v8 converted miata would be a little too much for a first car, even an FI miata would be a bit dangerous for fist timers... I say get yourself a stock miata if you like them and once you're used to it boost it. Or whatever.

Agreed with the golf also, there's only one MKIV golf around here. I don't know why there not more popular. Fun little cars to throw around. Specially with a stick.

Honestly? I say a first car should some sorta beater you can rice out right from the getgo. Get the ricing stage out of the way. Then when your done with that go onto something nice you'l put some good thought and time into. 👍 (that is if you're into cars... If you're not get a Scion tC.

Mini Cooper 00, Its amazing my dad has one up for sale RUNS LIKE A CHARM. Speakers are amazing to. But like 30mpg car its really good. has aftermarket exhaust. its same size as stock:)

A Miata/MX-5. Obviously with a 8ltr quad-turbo W16 engine swap. 👍

Oh I know, just saying that if I could afford the insurance for a Miata then I would have enough money for a 'charger. (But don't NA Miatas use turbos?)

What?

The last three MX-5 models I've been quoted on were $10-20 cheaper a month than my '98 Celica, and that was before I turned 25. That'd be about $105 a month on average, in Michigan, a no-fault state.

Old people can have very nice cars.

True that my Grandma has owned a '65 Mustang, '57 Bel Air, '69 GTO and a few others to name a few. All in perfect shape.

In Canada, insurance is very expensive. My friend has a 92' Mecury Topaz.
It's just under 3k a year for him. So what I'm saying is that if I had enough spare money to pay insurance for a Miata (probably at least 5k a year), then I would have enough money to get a turbo.

3k?? Dang.. I think it's 3k to insure an M3 in the states...

Point A------------------Point B
That is ALL you need for a first vehicle.

150mph is easy, (when you are running alcohol lol). We have a silly limiter at 100mph...

Edit: Or you could just get the one with the Viper motor shoved into it. 24gpm baby!

I have a limiter for 85 now. But before....my dad said straight up **** no to that lol

85?!? Wha... Why?

And to OP, you are 14, by the time you are old enough to get a car you will understand what we are talking about with costs and practicality.

Best first car should be something small, economical, low-powered, front wheel drive with light steering and clutch (if manual). A hatchback would probably be best for when it comes to parking.

My Geo tracker does quite nicely. My 2nd car is a 3-series I have lined up.

All that ACTUALLY matters in a First car:
4 seats, so you can drive with your Mates/Girls
Fuel Economy
Visibility. The End

That's where Ford set the limiter for that truck. Het set it for 85 to match Ford's specs and would match up to the speedometer even though the new limiter is from MSD. The speedometer is always off though because he rotates from large to small tires without recalibrating.

No seriously, all driving tests, if conducted in a safe environment, with only this car, would definitely teach more people how to control oversteer, I hope... :D

I really enjoyed my 2003 Honda Accord 4cyl for my first car. Light on its feet, decent power so you can get on to the freeways and stuff with no problem, and it was very good on gas mileage which made it easier on me being young and not having a great job. Out of all 3 years I owned it put around 40k-50k miles on it and never had a single problem, so reliable to I drove the hell out of that car. Caught air on a couple occasions.
