I only had a couple hybrids, so I'll update. Being able to race with GTPers is enough to make up for losing a couple cars.

<snip> there are SO many ways to avoid modded cars. Spec rooms, hp/weight limit, COMMON SENSE.<snip>

Please tell me how common sense helps us avoid modded cars. I've been in a room where it was an agreed-upon Red Bull X race, and wound up getting my doors blown off by 2 GT-Rs and a Camaro.

I've reverted so I don't know what happens to no-modded cars. However, before there is too much sympathy lost for the modders, how would you feel if this update reset everything?

Modders put a lot of time and energy into their cars. There is a great deal of emotional investment there just as there is with any non-modded car. Disrespecting the effort and passion that many paying customers have invested into your product will have detrimental effects.

Triple A games are not selling well right now. GT has slipped off the triple A mantle (is has not scored 90%+ in a LONG TIME) so disrespecting paying clients is not a good idea. It's important to remember, these aren't pirates we're talking about. These are paying customers.

I've made the tough decision. I'm officially downgrading back to 2.11. I'd much rather drive my unique creations then listen to whiny kids online complaining about how they can't use their X1 because of PP limits and such.
Goodbye GT5 online. Thank you PD for ruining yet another fun experience for us all.

Oh the irony.

If you've got nothing nice to say, keep to yourself. Not everyone wants to hear your say on everything.

The funny thing is, Simon is actually right. It is very ironic.

Consider it this way, when the game first came out, did you go out buy the game, put it in your ps3, and immediately say "thanks for ruining the game PD". Of course not. In fact, you paid money for the game as it was on release, and since then it has developed without you having to pay a penny more. Since then people have gone into all this modding etc, and PD have taken it away. So now we are back to square one, where you have the same game you paid money for (plus all the free updates PD have provided) but you are complaining that they have ruined the game.

You can't blame PD for removing data that directly conflicts with it's terms of service. They can't endorse modding, surely you can agree with that.

You all had your fun with Hybrid Cars (also known as Hacked Cars); and now it's time to use the game how it was intended to...

That's what I've read in this thread.

I'm pretty sure the OP is credible tho.

Wow.

Then common sense would state "Hey, my Redbull was just passed by street going production cars" - this is where your thought process would go "How can this happen" until it comes to the conclusion - "HEY! I've got it! Those cars must be hacked! :) "

How does this not make sense to you?

Theres one thread in the drag subforum about, would be good if more people can confirm if this is true.
Does updating reset the settings sheet? If it does then that will lead to alot of angry people who will have lost great tunes.
There is still another maintainence for the 25th right? Will there be another patch too.

I have updated, and all my settings sheets remain unaffected. Haven't lost any tunes.

Of course I'll be updating - and it'll feel good knowing that, as that little bar fills up, the hacks are dissolving into thin air. :sly:

Then I'll jump into my unaffected garage, drive my unaffected cars, and have a legit race online, unaffected by t'hax. :sly:

Are you thst nieve to think this will stop cheaters?

People can still use the hidden items such as supersoft tyres.

I dont think thats how it was intended either.

So many drama queens. GT5 had been mostly the same for a year before th hybrids were around and many vocal defenders of the game would say it's not dead, plenty of life online and they would be playing it until the day GT6 arrived, even after.

Now they've returned to that same game after a couple of months with hacked cars and GT5 is dead to those same people, so much so mere hours after the update they've gone out and bought other games, anything than the awful, dead GT5.

Play fair, go by the rules and you may get what you wish for - or keeping on pushing at this and it will likely escalate to full-on IP bans. After all, you are all on a public forum and most of the more vocal modders have their PSN IDs on display - it wouldn't be hard for Sony to cross-reference...

Don't think that Sony can ban people for reasoning that ultimately amounts to talking on a forum that they don't own. I mean, they could, yeah; but I highly doubt that they are that stupid. You wanna talk about PR nightmares, let it leak to the gaming press that Sony banned even one PSN account for things supposedly said on a third party forum rather than their actual actions.

I don't understand how people's memories for GT5's online play only goes as far back as February/March.

Really, Simon? This is the argument you're falling back on?

PD has officially removed Hacked cars. Personally I think its a bit of a mistake. Hacking cars allowed engine and drivetrain swaps. Which as you know PD has Yet to put in the game which also is a big disappointment considering the entire community has been waiting for these option. On the Bright side and the only bright thing about it is no more 3000hp cars Which were ridiculous and stupid from the start. Well Im sure as most GT5 fans may know GT5 is loosing fans to Forza, The arcade racing game for Xbox 360 with all the customization in upgrades that any car enthusiast could want, due to the inability to do what you should be able to in real world racing. Drivetrain and engine swaps have been around for years and yet PD has still yet to put them in. I will admit I had some fun swapped cars and I loved my RWD R32 and R34 but now the fun is over and were are stuck with our unconverted RWD cars.

What do you guys think? Do you think PD will put this in the next Gran Turismo title?

How does this not make sense to you?
Because it doesn't tell me how to AVOID hacked cars. Prior to that specific race, there had been no indication of hacked cars being in the room.

"This software is LICENSED for play on authorised Playstation 3 systems. All unauthorised access, user or transfer of this product or it's underlying copyright and trademark works is prohibited".

You don't own the contents of the disc. You own the disc which gives you a right to play the cotent on it, under their terms.

Oh Simon, stop bleating on and on for the sake of it.

We all know it was breaking the rules etc.

"Life is short, break the rules, Forgive quickly.
Love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that made you smile." - unknown.

Oh Simon, stop bleating on and on for the sake of it.

How is making a perfectly valid point, bleating on?

He summarized the entire reason as to why we were inevitably going to have this happening eventually. 👍

It's not your software to tamper with, so why cry when you get you get screwed for doing it?

"Hey look, I hacked my iPhone to get infinite iTunes money....
Damn you Apple for blocking this! I'm never buying your products again!" That's pretty much what's happening here.

I don't know why you sound so surprised? GTPlanet has always been a place for drama... well, as long as I have been here anyways.

Oh, and for the record, I voted YES on the update.

You're being punished because you hacked the game, end of. This is far from unusual behaviour for a games manufacturer. I have played many games over the last couple of decades, including a lot of online stuff since the advent of decent internet. Without exception, all manufacturers of games that I have played have gone after the hackers, glitchers and out right cheats. I don't see what's so hard to grasp about that...

{Cy}

Exactly. 👍

This is actually the standard "Blizzard Defense" from Battle.net Diablo/StarCraft. Verify files, revert them to stock if they've been tampered with.

The only difference is PD is so incompetent they took months to put out a patch and then the patch doesn't even address 1/2 the possible exploits.

That's the real problem I see in this thread. PD didn't fix the issue. Which is especially stupid considering we've been making hybrid cars in GT games since the PSX got a gameshark/dexdrive. This isn't new at all, youtube probably has more GT2 hybrid videos than GT5... and TBH GT3 is the only one of the 5 I can remember NOT seeing hybrids in. So there's your evidence that they are oblivious to the world outside their studio, they didn't defend against something that's been going on for 10 years in the original release, and when they did finally get around to it they did a 1/2 assed job.

I will, but it's a shame I'll lose my tunes for my Insight, Prius, and CR-Z....*wait, what? There's a different kind of hybrid?* :dopey:

And yet I said cross-referencing - ie: checking what the game save data reports are saying. If Sony wanted any measure of certainty in sending a very definite message to those too stubborn to accept, then they would go for the most vocal - the 'ring-leaders'. And how would something written on a forum owned by whomever, be supposed?

Anyway, I'm sure they would prefer not to take any further measures, rather they would hope that those responsible would get the hint that the fun was over at last and stop. If it continues though via a new workaround to the update from more hack/modders, what choice would Sony/PD have? If GT6 is to come out on the same console, then they will also be protecting that game from becoming a farce.

Why does it matter to you what I do in my own time offline? And as stated, take this poll to another forum and it could be just the opposite result.
Because your bit of offline pleasure, as innocent as it might seem may well cost the community in the form of delays to GT6.

Polls generally only read differently due to the question(s) and how they are phrased, either for or against a certain viewpoint. Those can be made to reflect the poll creator's agenda with carefull word choices, ensuring a predetermined outcome. A poll with a single, neutral question such as this one however, would only be different if that other community was focused on modding.

I'd still say the same to them.

1. delete game data
2. start gt5 and tell it to update
3. it does all the updates sequentially... stop it when it gets to the last one for 2.12
4. copy your hacked save game back onto the console
5. you're done.

If you want to maintain hybrids AND online play:
1. buy a cheap hard drive that the ps3 will work with
2. swap HDD in the PS3 for the new one
3. start GT5... stop updating before it applies 2.12
4. copy your hacked save game onto the new HDD
5. play
6. swap the hard drive back out until you want to mess about with hybrids again.

I think what pd is saying is either you ban yourself by not playing online . Or you update and follow the rules . If you dont update you can hybrid away and no one can stop you. If you do you get to play online. Its harsh but it's w.e if u wanna hybrid so bad that you will give up online then go for it.

And you don't see how that could blow up in their face? We've already had several members on GTP who basically threatened to report others to Sony based on the posts they've made here regardless of whether they interacted with them online or not, so in a situation like that (and there's no way that people don't fall into the cracks when it comes to account bans, because I have to imagine there is a good degree of automation to the process), and Sony starts banning people based on PSN reports and/or content posted on largely anonymous third party websites that all traces its roots back to a PSN name field on a public forum, how do you think Sony will come off as regardless of what they were ultimately banning people for?

And how would something written on a forum owned by whomever, be supposed?

Very simple: How does Sony know whether the PSN name attached to someone's posts are actually their PSN name? Sony has nothing to do with GTP, and I don't log into it with my PSN details. I can put whatever I want into the PSN/XBL information, including someone else's PSN/XBL details; or I could leave it blank.

How is making a perfectly valid point, bleating on?

Because it wasn't a perfectly valid point, no matter how many times people want to shake the "you're only licenced to do only what Sony says" stick around.

"Hey look, I hacked my iPhone to get infinite iTunes money....
Damn you Apple for blocking this! I'm never buying your products again!" That's pretty much what's happening here.

Actually not at all what's happening here. Even the most die hard of hybrid defenders rallied against people who were using it as a way to not have to pay for the DLC.
