WTF! GT4 is NOT online

Agreed, KY has never praised the online aspect, he's always turned his attention away from it and back to the single player game. As for his recent comment that he'd soreted out the onoline problems, I'm guessing thats when they decided to produce GT onlione as a seperate game and release it at a later date when it was all ready.

LOL :)

KAZ: I know how can we sort out the online problems of GT4, well simply remove that part of the game, no problems with lag.
Simple Sorted. :P

:sly: I'm sure as hell as pissed the **** off as most everyone else here over this whole mess, but look at it this way. More than likely, the online mode will STILL be in the game when it does ship, except that it won't be active since the servers are still at a work-in-progress point. If anything, when GT4 does go online-status, all we'll probably hafta do is do all that account **** and BOOM, online play here-I-come. Plus, over all of that, once you DO finally go online, you won't suck ass like you're a Pokemon fanatic. :sly:

ouch.

had sony / polyphony digital kept the online feature in the game and released GT4 before Christmas, the reaction would be orders of magnitude of worse with people complaining about the faulty online gameplay. i guess the companies decided to weather the outcry for now. it's disappointing but not fatal. regardless of whether you think it was the right / wrong / silly decision to drop online support for now, life will go on as will gaming on the sony, microsoft and nintendo consoles.

Had PD held back GT4's release until the online mode was satisfactory, we'd be waiting until mid 05 for the game, o we wouldn't we'd be waiting for our pensions before we got the game.

That's true. The game would be delayed even more. They were probably trying to put online in the game, but couldn't work out the bugs, so the just decided to not go online until GT5.Who knows?

No, GT will go online next year, read the articles. Basically PD are giving us GT4 offline now (well in December), and then they will carry on ironing out the bugs for online, once they've done that they will relase GT again in 2005 with online capabilities, weather this will be just GT4 with the added online, a seperate dike with online only thats compatible with GT4, or if it will include any extras like new cars and tracks as well as the online we don't yet know. But we will be playing GT online on our PS2's next year.

Wow, I get home from work on Friday looking forward to the weekend and finding out news about GT4 and then I read the bad news here. I'm very disappointed after all the wait, but not surprised. I always guessed the reason PD kept on delaying it was probably because of the online bugs. If LAN gaming is still possible then I would think of one positive note is that those of you that have a computer in the house with broadband can run a tunnel program so that we can play LAN games together over the internet like xbconnect does with the xbox. It works great for the XBOX.

Back to playing some GT4 Prologue as I wait for the December 14th release date. (cross my fingers)

this sucks. no online line play. oh well i thought it was to good to be true. i really wanted to race against other people around the world in GT4.

CAMAROBOY69
The only good news about this is that I won't have to spend $49.99 on this game now. 👍 I will make a "backup" of it since its not going to be online.
I can see lots of people thinking the same way.
PD/Sony should release all the details they can (date, price, how it will work, etc) about the online version asap to avoid this.

All Bow Down to Famine  OMG Finally someone is standing up to that Saint Kamus (Or whatever it is) fulla.

I think I speak for everyone when I say. Saint Kamus........ Shut up!!! Here's a suggestion. Change your Nappy, Grow some hairy ones and PLEASE!!!.... Get your hand off it.

I'm not a mod, but I recomend that you keep the profanity to a minimum. I also recomend that you keep the abussiveness to a minimum. Eg
what a pompus prick you turned out to be, "because I won't use online, then other people won't either!" sounded like a true arrogant prick.
Others like him n00b. That means people who have the same view as him. Others who have the same view as him, won't use the online function. There's a difference.
might want to pull your tongue out of his ass right about now
Why don't you pull your whole hand, out of yours. Take losing like a man. If you are gonna have a hissy fit, then go somewhere else. Don't screw up a perfectly good thread.

If you want to take someone on, take myself or Famine on. You'll get creamed.

^ actually I have no idea why it's suck a big deal. Everyone knew the online mode would have bugs, and would have some that couldn't be sorted out, or WOULDN'T be sorted out in time for release. It should be no surprise at all that online is gone. It's actually better this way, It's a great game with crap online. That, my friend, would bring it down, correct? And plus most ppl whowould play online will be idiots who don't know how to drive, good ones would be few and far in between. Thank you PD, for doing that. But then again, if they had done it sooner we could've had GT4 by now :grumpy:

If GT4 goes online next year that's fine and dandy. But for now, with the shaky online capabilites we have right now, I think it was a wise choice PD made. Sacrificing a small thing for the good of the whole game.

Smart move by PD. 👍

So I guess the debate here is:

a.) Get GT4 this year with LAN capabilities

...or...

b.) Get GT4 with full online capability

Time and time again, I don't care less for online play. I don't expect playing someone in New York or Tokyo or anything. I still want GT4 because that's what it's all about. I'd rather have 99.9% GT4 than 100%. And after all, for years I've wanted to learn more about GT4 and its release. I've never emphasized wanting to play GT4 online. Maybe if we were in some place wired up with broadband access and compete for fun, then I'd maybe do it. Other than that, I'm not bothered. I want GT4 regardless of online play. I'd rather flash photos of my car, and I've stood behind PD ever since seeing wonderful pictures of GT4. And guess what? I'm not backing down until I got a DS2 in my hands, playing the holy Hell out of GT4. I'm not going to let something like online play get in the way. I have "NCAA Football 2004" in my PS2 unit, and I'm not letting playing online tell me that the game is much better online. I've had more fun solo than relying on a phone wire, an adapter, and some unlucky sap wanting to get owned by my driving talent. Quoth John...

"I'd rather have 99.9% of Gran Turismo 4 than 100%."

I'm done. Enjoy Petit Le Mans!

honestly this has to be one of thee most disappointing news i've ever heard. i can relate to all you who want online, i hear some people say, its no fun if i can't show off my skill..well if you have that type of attitude i hope you get crushed by those other online gamers if there was..the reason why i so eaggerly waiting for online was to just race against people around the world..when i first heard they were gonna have online, i'm like omg this is gonna be the best game...i don't know about you but there aren't many people that i know that play gt...i know of some but they suck horrid and i have 2 other friends that are good, when i just get to race against one of them i'm estactic, whether i win or lose i wanna just keep racing against them despite the split screen..online was gonna eliminate that problem, i would get to actually race against those people that post lap times on forums instead of trying to beat their imaginary ghost...honestly racing against the ai has no appeal non once so ever cause they suck that bad, i try using a car that doesn't handle as well or as fast as the ai, not like a really bad car but the cars that i would race against should destroy my car the problem comes when you're in front of the ai, and braking for an upcoming turn, they purposely hit you....so its like you can never find anybody competitive or so rarely...with online all those problems would be solved, we would be able to witness others driving techniques, passing methods..like there is so much more then just to prove you are the fastest........and why i think this is not gonna be all that great is cause from gt1 and gt2 to gt3 that was a huge leap..the graphics were enhanced by 100x, the handling of the cars were alot more realistic, it was a big leap from any racing game out there and still kills a bunch of other racing games today but problem with gt4 is there is no longer that big leap, the big leap would've been the online play, but now tha's lost, so all we're waiting for now is new cars adn new tracks - . - i'm sure will get old really soon.....those of you that say who cares if there's no online play at least we finally get the game well tha's fine for you but for alot of us who are race driven, who have a passion to race, losing this online capability is pretty much everything to us, you can't imagine how much excitment and entertainment it would've brought us, they might've been able to make nurbur like it is now...where you can just enter your car and drive on the track as fast as you want, race someone if you see a car zoom by you or just drive at your own pace, can even spectate by trying to keep up with other cars that are racing and just follow them, its like you just brought germany into your tv, and tha's just the beginning of how great online can be...the absolute worse i think is they said they would have online play in gt4 and it was because of that it hyped alot of us, especially me, they shouldn't have said anything about gt4 having online and just kept quiet, then we wouldn't be expecting it but maybe just hoping that gt 4 would have, if they said no for sure we don't have it we can hope that gt5 will have it, but they just crushed our expectations and it was something they said they would give to us.. that is like equilvent to saying they have ferrari and porsche in gt4 and then later on saying oh we couldn't get the license at least they didn't do that but its pretty much equilvent to that and being a huge ferrari fan i woudl be extremely pissed...see they said they're might be ferrari in gt 4 so i can only hope this way if they really don't have it i won't be as disappointed.... i had this game pre ordered because they said it'd be online, i thnk i'm just gonna buy a pirated version only when that rumored gt 4 epilogue comes out adn has online play will i buy the real thing...sony expected to be really high selling well i expected the online, they crushed my expectation so i think it's pretty fair game if i do the same...

OUCH!

I apologize in advance, but I didnt read all of the preceding pages.

This whole debacle smells like a load of BULL**** on Polyphony Digital and Sony's part.

Think about it: they havent innovated since the first GT. The sequels have pretty much been expansion packs (more cars, more tracks, revised UI, slightly improved physics, no substantial new features), to put it as harshly as possible. Loyal GT fans have been putting all of their faith in GT4 to come through for them, to really push the envelope.

What does PD do? **** innovation. **** feasible new features. **** more immersive gaming experiences. Let's stay the same and add more cars to the list. Let's add more tracks. Let's put in Photomode in and call it a day. We can call it a museum and expect it to make up for a lack of innovation.

Man this pisses me off. I'll get over it and probably love GT4 anyway... but man am I pissed off at their arrogance.

Perfectionists my ass! NOTHING is perfect. GT was NEVER perfect. They should just put some ****ing effort into moving forward instead of basking in their own hyperbole.

It's a racing game. What amazing new features are there even possible to put in? Have you completely ignored the fact that the game continues to become more and more realistic? Real Driving Simulator, remember?

And guess what?

ONLINE MODE IS COMING IN LESS THEN A YEAR AFTER THE RLEASE OF GT4

I've read the whole thread. I am somewhat pacified.

I'm still irritated by their constant excuses, but that's small potatoes.

For those making excuses on TOP of PD's excuses, just go play previous Gran Turismos if they're so airtight.

Oh wait... they're not. That's why you're waiting for GT4 with fingers crossed.

What makes a good sequel is innovation. Innovation includes new ideas and features, not just more of the same. If the inherent core gameplay is not ideal to begin with (people, there are many threads concerning the shortcomings of previous GT's, some that actually contain positive suggestions. Just look at the first 5 pages.), you cannot rest on your laurels creatively and just create new content. If you can't see that, you are too far gone to reason with.

Sorry, I'm just pissed at the abuse of the term "perfectionist."

Well let's look at this on another viewpoint. How many of you have Half-Life: Counterstrike? I have the game, but the bad thing is that you have to be online to play the game. And around the time that game was released, there were plans of releasing a single-player version which doesn't require online access. Of course, we'd come to know it as "Condition Zero" for our PC and XBOX gamers. Valve (the makers of the award-winning Half-Life series) in this case is kind of the reverse of this situation. GT4's "problem" is that GT4 won't allow anything broader than a LAN for this build while a future version will have online play broader than a LAN. Counterstike's problem was that online access was REQUIRED while a later build did not require online access.

"Have you completely ignored the fact that the game continues to become more and more realistic? Real driving Simulator, remember?" -The359

In a different situation, "GTA: San Andreas" will not have online play (for consoles, I believe, I'm not sure), but it doesn't diminish the success of GTA: SA. Same goes for GT4. You're lucky you're getting LAN rather than nothing, alright? I don't complain over online play. Keep As I said before, multiplay should never determine the success or failure of a game. It's a nice feature, but shouldn't be DEPENDENT of it. Even though I have Counterstrike, I haven't played it because it requires multiplayer. I don't really care about online play, but I like the concept. And there are such people who like multiplayer gaming, but kind of not multiplay. But "The359" is right. You want online play, you'll have to wait, I'm afraid. And like I said, GT4 is going to be a great game even without international, live GT4 racing action. You want another example? GT4 is still a good game even if you take out Photo Mode. But like I said, I'm a GT veteran and diehard. I'm proud of being a fan of such a long-running series. Since 1997, GT has evolved beautifully. The future is still very bright and even with online play, it will likely remain a highly-successful racing series even if a holdup like this deters the interests of others.

if this is indeed true, im very disappointed. online play was a feature that id been longing for for a long time, along with dramatically improved AI. those were teh only two features that i wished for. becasue if i had one, i wouldnt need the other. now i have possibly neither.

racing a human beats AI anyday, until the AI can behave in human ways.

as fas as im concerened they have wasted the last year or two with useless features instead of concentrating on the evolution of the core of the game, the racing.
it will look nice, but so what.

i only play GT, rather suck at it too. dont play the war games and ball games and so on, just GT. all the other racers ive played have been subpar. now im actually looking forward to forza.

i believe that if microsoft can come out with good online play and nice big grid counts instead of just five cars to run against, GT will have a legitimate contender. even if the graphics have not been improved from PGR.

The359
And guess what?

ONLINE MODE IS COMING IN LESS THEN A YEAR AFTER THE RLEASE OF GT4

Are You sure?
They Promised that Online would be the central part of GT4 for the last three years.
KAZ was all about new ways to experience GT and cars online, with a community to talk about it, with Photo mode to share your experience visually, Spectator mode to enjoy watching others Racing, Pre Race Headset use to Banter with and Taunt your opponents, Just the other day Kaz was even talking about PAINT SHOP and the possibility of Customising plates e.t.c to personalize yourself in the online arena, And of course the promise that finally we would be able to use his masterpiece, to actually RACE.
They said it would be in, and it isnt.
So Today here we are, PD says sorry its not in, Dont worry it will be in a new GAME next year (But we dont have any other details about that for you right now).
DO I trust them when they make such a vague statement like that?
NOT ANY MORE!

YES we have updated Graphics engine, and sure it looks nice, yes we have a new tracks, About time too, and yes we have a Load of new cars, all of these were a given for any new GT game but wheres the innovation, Yes The New realistic Physics engine, even from prologue is a Plus!
Im not very confident that the AI is going to be that good, and it will need to be quite something if it is to save the day.
So once again we end up with a Lonely virtual garage, with the chance to take them for a quick Spin,
They throw in ARCADE challenge mode, where you have to play catch up to complete certain mission goals! WTF!
They Put BACK in the TV mode (B SPEC mode) which over a year ago, they said they had dropped because it wasnt the way to go.
And leave us the Photo mode, which was really meant to be enjoyed onLine, Its all well and good enjoying your carefully crafted Photos yourself, But the whole point of artistry, is to share it with others, PDs Original Vision for this mode, much like drift competition, its all about showing off your skills, whats the point of doing it if no one else can see it?
SO essentially we are left with a game that looks a bit better, Plays a bit better, and has more variety of Track/Ride combinations, with a pretty picture mode and a lazy driver mode tacked on the side. Not very innovative, hardly groundbreaking, and I bet the are a few developers out there right know with a wry Grin on their faces.
Off course all this is fine for all those who like things pretty to look at, and are happy to to go round in circles on there own.
But Racers want to RACE!
We are now in the online age, PD knew this was the way to go, Kaz knows racing is best against Human opponents, hes a RACER!

I see two options.

Just as with GT2 you get two disks. One for online play and one for offline play. Only there will be some difference in releasetime. Off course we have to pay extra money.:indiff:

Or the version with online play will be again the full version, but then with an extra option.

I don't understand some of you guys....
Why complaining? Why buy an online adapter when GT4 isn't realesed yet? :odd:
GT4 will be still the best game out in the stores even without online play!!!
GT2/GT3 had never online , I was still ****ing happy with it!!!!!!!!!!!

GT4s main attraction was online gameplay, i don't give a **** about graphics, if i did, i wouldn't love suikoden so much, i like the better handling in gt4p but without a online mode it's gonna suck, here me, SUCK!

compared to what it should have been

I wouldn't care if it was delayed another six months, i wouldn't care if they ****ed off evetything else and just made 600 cars, 30 tracks, and online play, **** the licence tests and all that, and no i don't want some **** add on, this isn't some **** pc game, is supposed to be a console game, where you get the whole package in one not where you get screwed.

GTXLR, Yes GT will go online next year, the only reason it's not in GT4 is because it's not ready, but KY said he'll be releasing it next year with online, when it's ready. Were not missing out at all, look at it this way, if GT4 came with online and was released in December, the online would be crap, laggy, and unenjoyable. If he waited until the online was done before he released GT4 we wouldn't get GT4 until mid 2005, so now were getting a complete offline GT4, with the online becoming available when it's done. At the end of the day, were just getting GT4's offline modes early.

RyosukeFCDS
GT4s main attraction was online gameplay
Says who?

Anyone who says GT4 is "going to suck" just because it doesn't have an online feature isn't a true GT gamer.

I wonder, if the drift mode in GT4 gets cut as well, is GT4 "going to suck" more?

GT1,2 and 3 all did very well without online. KY has always said he's not keen on taking GT online at this stage since the connections arn't fast enough, thats old news too. How the idea got into Ryosuke's head that online was the main attraction is beyond me, sure I was looking forward to it, and I still am. It's just thanks to KY I'll be able to play GT4 instead of next which is when I'll be able to play online.

Some seemingly respectable members have really come out of their shell over te last days and showed that they are really morons, thick as a sack of potatoes and have high blood pressure.

I'd probably play both online and single player.

I'm not too concerned about no online in the first release AS LONG AS it comes out later.
I know this may sound a little weird, but my logic understands it.
I play Diablo 2 as well, and when I got it, I spent heaps of time in single player progressing my game to the point where I was happy to go online.

Do the same with GT4: play it, get used to it, spend some time picking up all the hot cars, and then hit the online when it comes out. That way, if you can use the cars you've gained, then it makes the whole online thing heaps better! Plus you'll be expert at driving the GT4 cars by then and can really get down and crack some skulls.

yeah i'm a moron boo ****ing hoo

I wonder, if the drift mode in GT4 gets cut as well, is GT4 "going to suck" more?

i don't care about drift mode, the games strong point is that it's so ****ing realistic that you can set up your cars to drift

How the idea got into Ryosuke's head that online was the main attraction is beyond me,

so what is the main attraction of GT4 over GT3?

...

it's gonna turn into what happened to fifa where each new one was exactly the same with some lame graphics updates and new players (ie cars) ... WOW

GT1,2 and 3 all did very well without online

GT1 and GT2 came out when there was no online play, and back then, you didn't need it to excite people about another racing game, cause of all the ground braking features, what's ground braking in GT4? Photo mode?

It's gay that they're no online mode, and i'll whinge all i want, because it SHOULD be in the game, and you know it. Just saying, oh whatever is ****ing lame
