So I had this idea for an enjoyable thread... What is the most painful thing you have had happen to you?

Mine was when I got eye surgery about 6 months ago.

Oh, "emotional pain" doesn't count. ;)

Uh...

Rolling the car in the grass after hitting 80 mph (in the air) round a dusty sweeper... but that didn't hurt at all...

Chest pains when I was a kid... I had angina, and every time I walked across an open field, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack.

Getting my head bashed in with a lead pipe and my hand broken (College)... but that only stung a bit... when someone whacks you hard enough, all your nerves go numb, and you can't really feel anything. Took ten stitches and a cast, though... stitches? Meh, surgery doesn't hurt when you have anesthetic. I've had tooth extractions that hurt more, but only very momentarily.

Falling off the vault in gym... hitting my head on the vault from a handstand position (damn sweaty palms!) and hitting it again on the floor after slipping off the vault. Blacked out, so I couldn't feel it... but I couldn't walk straight for a week afterwards, my ears were ringing so bad...

Frat initiation... 150 whacks to the thighs really, really hurts. Was black and blue for days after.

But so far, the worst pain I've ever experienced was heartburn a few weeks ago. For about two or three hours, I thought I was going to die. It's either that or the delusional fever haze I used to go through when I got sick as a kid.

I'm not affraid of needles but I haven't had the best of experiences with them. One time, the nurse was searching for a vein and instead it felt like she hit the nerve because my arm felt like I stuck it in a wall socket and then for the next week was numb. great part was there was a big fat vein showing right near where she was fishing.

Other time was the day before I got a cortisone shot in my wrist. I had been doing a lot of computer work and had I guess a fast flare up when it was the worst because all I could do is flex one way and the tendent was numb. I put ice on it because the pain of the ice being so cold was better than the pain of the carpel tunnel. I didn't sleep at all and the only way I did was when I passed out from exhaustion of keeping the pain in my wrist down.

Having four teeth removed, constantly being asked to keep my head still so they could wrench back and forth on them. My father had insisted that I stay off of the laughing gas after watching a TV special about people that never woke up again (american paranoia at its best). Needless to say, my mom and I overruled that decision when I had to have my wisdom teeth removed later on.

Hell, I might as well throw in the 2+ years of wearing braces that preceded the two above procedures. All of that discomfort adds up. I might still have braces today if I hadn't said "enough" and told the orthodontist that I'd settle for teeth that aren't 100% perfect.

Aside from all of that, I've been lucky enough to be spared from major injuries. I did fall out of a tree once when I was a kid, landing on my back on a root and falling unconscious for about 15 minutes after crawling halfway to the door of my house. I can't think of much else.

* I had a little operation with a scalpel under my tongue without anaesthatic.

* dislocated my left shoulder twice a day (ski accident). Dislocated this shoulder more than 70 time during the period of 10 years.

* at the dentist: she put a needle in the back off my mouth directly into a nerve. That hurts!. It was like my entire mouth and tongue was electrified.

* A hernia (L5, S1)

* An acupuncturist puts a needle in my spinal column to treat my hernia. He must have put this needle in too deep and must have hit a nerve or more than one. Then he puts electricity on this needle, that hurts even more. Took him a couple off minutes to correct it.

* having 220volts through my body by replacing a light bulb (I was little and didn't know any better).

* Broke my hand on somebodies face. :O walked around with my hand for 3 days before I went to the hospital

* last year in februari, I broke my left elbow and a left rib (bicycle accident).

* When I little, I was playing on my bare feet and suddenly a big rusty nail got stuck rather deep in my foot. The injection I had to get that day (against this rusty nail) even hurts as much as the nail. I still have the scare where this nail penetrated my foot.

I had a muscle spasm in my back due to 6 months straight of lifting 2000 boxes of various weights each night without bending my knees.

I couldn't sit down without pain for a good two weeks. Free physical therapy owned though, back massages are awesome. Didn't make the pain stop though, until one day the therapist just stuck her finger in my back and broke scar tissue, that was extremely painful for about 10 seconds, and then it was just euphoria.

I still get back pain every now and then, it feels like I need to crack my back, but when I do crack it, it doesn't go away :(

Had my nose broken by a big plastic traffic pylon thing. Long story. Hurt for a few days, never had it reset. It healed crooked and I have a crooked nose.

Child birth x 4 :ouch:

And toothache followed by extraction of said tooth and now followed by dry socket on the extraction site, the pain is almost unbearable!

A year or so ago, I was doing some air of some sort and caught my foot on the coping causing me the fall 2 metres onto concrete, landing straight on the back of my head. Felt like ****, getting nauseous and stuff.

Also, not so long ago, I had a bike race in the wet up a really steep grassy hill. Slipped on me pedals. You know the rest. :(

Forgot one.

* A friend of mine had an "air pressure" revolver and he wanted it to try it on a person. I volunteered. Luckily I was standing about 7-10 m from him. He hit me on the right shoulder bone. I yelled and fell forwards.

*A very hard kick in the "nut" by a football (soccer) :ouch:. I was the goal keeper and got hit in the.... Unfortunatly, the other team scored.

* got a ballpoint stuck in the back of my throat. I was bleeding like "h**ll. Couldn't swallow properly for the next 3 weeks.

Getting stiches on top of my head after gashing it open by accidentally running into a frame of an open window. The actual even didn't hurt, I was knocked down, got up and ready to carry on with my school day until someone told me my head was bleeding. I was grinning all the way to the school office holding my head with blood seeping through my fingers.

But the stiches, DAMNIT! They try to numb the area and say you wont feel a thing but I always do! I've had stiches in my chin when I gashed that open in a bike accident and felt that also!

Getting a slightly larger than standard cuetip ( - Spelling, I know) shoved down your pee-tube. (Examination - infected bi-testy) - Felt like it was the size of a toilet brush :-|

Not something I'd recommend for my worst enemy...

Having six teeth removed.

Tattoo on my shoulder blade.

I also suffer from restless leg syndrome which basically feels like you have to move your legs. If you don't move them you get the most annoying burning pain. I only really get it when I don't exercise so I have to do at least an hours exercise a day.

I had an abscess in a front tooth (lower row, middle) and it hurt like hell... even worse, the dentist will not do anything until you've taken antibiotics for a couple of days - no sleep, no food, and no escape - I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I also had a dodgy back tooth once and had to have a part of the nerve-ending removed and the dentist (in Glasgow) told me he couldn't use too much anesthetic otherwise he couldn't tell where the nerve-endings were... I swear the man was a sadist - plus he did such a crap job of the filling, it needed replacing six months later - this was done by my old dentist and I didn't feel a thing. I remember yelping out loud many times during that hellish visit to the dentist in Glasgow and being quite shocked at how horrible the experience was. I came out to find a bunch of kids crying their eyes out, obviously terrified by the sounds of sheer agony coming from the dental theatre... I couldn't help but have a little chuckle about that :sly:

That's what happens when you live on a diet of deep-fried Mars Bars :indiff:

Missed the hole and accidentally rammed my girlfriend in the kaniff and felt something bend that shouldn't have been able to at the time. Needless to say I wasn't thinking about sexy time anymore as I was too busy rolling around on the kitchen floor wondering if its still going to work. :ouch:

A heavy blow to the toolbox. Most memorable occasion was in a melee in a football match, when some unidentified object (most likely either the football or someone's boot) gave my unprotected meat and two veg an impressive whack. Had me lying on the touchline for a good ten minutes. That's about the worst I've had, along with back pain, which can be horrible. Road rash also hurts me like hell. But I must also nominate paper cuts for a special mention, as they seem to hurt out of all proportion.

Oh, and getting your fingers stuck in a car door, or stubbing your toe. I've had various cuts, bruises, impacts, stitches, I've sliced my hand down to the bone with a six inch knife (not on purpose), I've had my wisdom teeth removed, had stitching in my face after using it as first point of contact when falling on tarmac, I've had a horse step on my foot, been run over by a car... none of it was as painful as a well stubbed toe or slammed finger.

Haha, yeah that's happened to me too. Scary stuff. I read abouta guy in some band who actually broke it.

What the h3ll were you doing in the Kitchen ?... And what's the deal with calling the Apple pie "Girlfriend" ?...

I got run over by a pick up truck and was in a coma for two weeks about 11 years ago to this day, almost.

Back in December I broke my toe. Painful.

I only remember pain in the recent past.
1 of those moments was when i woke up and had to yawn so hard my yaw got stuck.
I had to close it again with my hand.
Man, that really hurts.

The same thing when i get a cramp in my leg. The only solution seems to be to push very hard against the back of the bed with my foot.

And toothache when you have a hole in it and a piece of hard food gets stuck in it.

All in all, i haven't endured much pain yet in my life. (knocks on wood)

Broke my thumb ones when i was younger, but that didn't really hurt.
I only started to cry when i saw blood coming out.

This is going to sound rather lame...I got ran over by a big, red, Snap-on tool box. I used to be on a FIRST Robotics team back in high school and we were in Houston, TX for the national competition. Our pits were in the baseball stadium there next to Reliant Park and while we were packing up we had to move the tool box up a rather steep incline to get it out of the stadium. I was pushing the box and two people were pulling it up this ramp, we probably should have had more since this thing weighed a lot. Well the one girl that was pulling the box let go because as she said "it got to heavy" and the other guy had the box slip out of his hands. Well me in the back couldn't hold it and the box "ran me over". All I remember is hearing several loud pops from my back and feeling a nice burning. I think I passed out because the only thing I really remember is waking up in the first aid centre at the stadium and them debating whether I needed to go the the hospital. I could (barely) walk and my hands and arms felt a bit tingly. I ended up going and they just gave me some muscle relaxers.

Looking back on it I didn't really need to go to the hospital, all I did was throw my back out pretty severely but I was back to normal in about a month. Still to this day I have moments where my back just kills me and I have to wear a brace when I'm doing any kind of heavy lifting.

Worst pain I've ever had was passing a kidney stone. That's the only time I've ever vomited from the pain. Felt the first twinge and thought I just had a cramp. Twenty minutes later I couldn't walk or do anything but lie curled up in the back seat of the van while my wife drove me to the emergency room.

I've had numerous other painful injuries, but nothing compared to that, at least until the morphine hit.

#1 most painful experience would have to be childbirth, twice
#2 gallstone attack
#3 getting my nipple pierced, pain only lasted a few seconds but was like the pain of all the above crammed into those few seconds
#4 having the above nipple ring being ripped out when catching it on a door latch
#5 breaking my arm
#6 any dental procedure

Your supposed to say you can feel it still, otherwise how do they know? Having stitches out feels wrong though.

After my first heart surgery I had fluid building up around my heart and lungs, so they decided to run a tube through my side to drain it. As pediatric surgery was a fairly new thing they didn't have small tubes. While the incision didn't hurt due to anesthesia the tube did not fit between the ribs and they had to kind of force it a bit. I could feel the grinding and the pressure forcing my ribs apart. My grandmother was in the waiting room halfway across the floor and she could hear me screaming.
