Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: GRand Day Out

With the first day of a new month falling on a Monday, we have a new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races to see September in and comprising three new events for players to race across the next seven days.

It’s a pretty typical week for the race formats, with a one-make road car event in Race A, Gr.4s in a sprint in Race B, and a longer race with pit strategy included for the Gr.3 cars in Race C. All three run at original circuits, with two classic GT1 tracks reimagined for GT7 and one that made its debut in GT Sport.

Toyota’s GR Yaris is your hero car for Race A, in a six-lap race of the Grand Valley South circuit. With the reinvention of Grand Valley as a coastal route in California — running through Big Sur — and the required changes to fit the real landscape, the South track replaces the original East track. It’s pretty familiar for the first half (other than the differing elevation changes), but gets a bit wilder in the back half, so if you’ve not raced here often we’d recommend getting some practice in first.

You’ll need Sports Hard tires for your GR Yaris, and you can either use one from your garage (no engine-swapped cars though!) or borrow one for the event. This week there’s a Grid Start, but it’s a regular one without the need to pay attention to the lights.

One change this week is the reversion to the regular “No DR” format event. This means that Driver Rating updates are switched off and you’ll neither gain nor lose ranking points no matter how well or poorly you place in the race. Sportsmanship Rating remains turned on, so keep it clean!

For Race B this week you’ll be in the GT4-like Gr.4 cars, with free choice of any vehicle in this wide and varied category that includes front- and mid-engined vehicles, and front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive. It’s a notoriously difficult to balance class, with several attempts over the years that only results in a different set of dominant vehicles after each BOP update.

Currently it’s the turn of the all-wheel drive cars but this week’s circuit — Sardegna Road Track A — is just tilted towards high-speed to bring some of the overpowered FWD cars into the mix. Indeed the leaderboard right now is dominated by the Mazda 3.

Whichever car you pick, it’s a five-lap race on Racing Hard tires, with no need to develop any strategy. You’ll be racing flat out from lights to flag.

We’re back into the Gr.3 cars for this week’s Race C, which returns to its regular haunt of Deep Forest Raceway. It’s a pretty familiar combination, though there’s some slightly higher tire wear, a mandatory pit stop, and you’ll be on Racing Medium tires for this 14-lap race.

Unlike Gr.4, Gr.3 is pretty well-balanced and there’s a number of different options for a decent result here. You’ll just need to keep an eye on the tire life — although it seems perfectly possible to run the whole race on one set in a car that’s kinder on rubber — and make sure you dive into the pits at least once.

If you don’t take a trip down pit road, you’ll pick up a one-minute penalty added to the end of your race time. Beware too that penalties for crossing the pit lane entry and exit are turned on, so stay well clear of the solid lines lest you pick up a three-second, on-track penalty each time.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 8.
