GT Academy “Wild Card” Event This Week in the UK

GT Academy EU 2011 is in full swing, but this year, Sony and Nissan have revealed an interesting new twist for players in the UK. A live “wild card” time trial event will be held April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the Nissan Innovation Center inside London’s O2.

Here’s how it works: participants will be given three laps in the game behind the wheel of a GT5 race pod. The fastest drivers from each of the three days will be awarded a Logitech Driving Force GT, and the fastest driver overall from the event will score a ticket straight to the GT Academy UK National Finals next May.

Though the Wild Card event will be open to the public, you are strongly encouraged to reserve a time slot via the form at NissanGTAWildCard.co.uk. According to a comment on the official GT Academy Facebook page, other Wild Card events may also be showing up in other participating countries soon, so keep an eye out for more announcements soon…

Anyone else feel that the U.S. GT Academy was just smoke and mirrors and probably won’t return next year? Obviously, someone is going to drop by, look at the combo and race it as much as they can before their time slot (if they are smart, make the time slot on the last day).

    Lol Logitech Driving Force GT

Give them a somewhat proper wheel like G25.. Come on, quit the plastic and almost decent forcefeedback, and get some real metal and leather, a clutch and something atleast ressembling an H shifter.. Anything below G25 is a kitty’s wheel.. It’s a 900° controller, not a sim wheel..

how about a wildcard event for CANADA?
Yes, CANADA is a country. It is situated north of the USA and west of EUROPE.
CANADIAN GT Fans would be very greatful to finally be included in GTAcademy.

Perhaps you guys should complain to your government to relax their rules a bit. This was taken in reference to a competition for another game but it certainly applies here.

“OK Hopefully this will clear it up a little for you. Canadian residents are not allowed to play in online tournaments because of the countries Laws. Which laws you ask ? Well under Canadian law, games of skill or chance are governed under the Canadian Criminal Code specifically Part VII section 197 to 206. Now because the tournament is played by the Canadian resident solely in Canada he is subject to this section of the law. In this section there are certain requirements for Canadians to be able to claim there prize, One (as Canadian Residents are very familiar with) is the Skill testing questions (or STQ) and depending on which Provence you live in you must also meet the “AGE OF MAJORITY (AOM)” Which dose very from Provence to Provence.

AOM (18): Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, or Prince Edward Island.
AOM (19): British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Northwest Territories.

Now As many Canadians are aware there is Provence that causes more problems and makes things more difficult than any other. And of course that Provence is Quebec. And under Quebec law any contest that is open to Residents of Quebec must register the contest in advance with the Quebec government, pay a fee of the total contest prize value, and many other regulations. To avoid the extra work, financial obligations, and also avoid any legal action by the Quebec government, many companies will simply exclude Quebec in its eligibility requirement clause in the contest rules. Now as u can see running contest in Canada is very difficult and meeting American restrictions for contests are hard enough. So for that reason we exclude Canada from are Online Tournaments.”
