What happens to enjoying all forms of motor sport. Next thing you know people will say drag take no tallent. You are all pretty dumb if you think NASCAR is easy. Did you know that draft in NASCAR is created more from the car behind you then the car infront. I agree that the tracks are simple and only turn one way for the most part but NASCAR is more like chess then racing. On the otherhand I don’t think anything is like hitting the green death with a touring car and trying to run sub 6:30’s. I’m think NASCAR is borring to watch but it takes alot of skill to run those cars the way they do. I don’t think that anyone can say that one track is better then the next because it’s a matter of tast and every one has a different idea of what that is. I thought this site was for people to come together and celebrate auto sport not bitch and moan because some one else has a idea that they don’t like. It’s sad to see grown poeple act like children becasue of ignorance and single people out.

  2. Geo_212

I think the reason why the pit stop was so slow is that this is probably one of the beginning NASCAR races, and the low difficulty may be causing the crew to be slower than normal. Hopefully, at least…

Thal689 I’m actually on the Eutechnyx forum as well and I’ve read about what people think about EA’s NASCAR games as well as their opinions on GT5 NASCAR, it’s a shame EA made a mess of the licence but PD aren’t trying to take the reigns and make a NASCAR sim. They’re simply putting a few cars and a track or two in GT5 to let people like myself that are not NASCAR fans sample the sport without having to buy an in-depth NASCAR sim. The way some people talk on this site and the Eutechnyx forum you would think that PD promised all cars and tracks, a season mode and all drivers, when they merely wanted NASCAR represented in GT5.

  4. Kaaosherra

I can not understand the obsession people have with turning right. Guess what? You can turn one way, you can turn the other. Being able to turn in either direction is not what makes great drivers great. Your momma can turn both ways.

So what if the ovals only have left turns? That changes nothing. Racing is still all about reactions and endurance. The best driver in any race is the one who makes all the thousands of split second decicions with the least amount of mistakes, preferably none.

I’m not a NASCAR fan, but to say it’s boring just because they only turn left is retarded. There’s something wrong with your brain if the only thing you can enjoy in motorsports is the direction of the turns.

    1. AGNT009

If the NASCAR schedule were up to me, it would have 1/3 of the schedule AT THE LEAST be road courses. And not repeats like they do for the ovals. Non NASCAR fans dont understand the difficulty of oval racing. Why is it Franchetti had to go crawling back to Indy? Why is it Juan Pablo Montoya STILL doesnt have an oval win? Its HARDER than it looks. Having said that, Id prefer the schedule had a LOT more road courses. If nothing else but to shut you guys up who look down at NASCAR, lol. But sadly, I wasnt born into the fat France family, lol.

    2. thal689

I think Juan Pablo Montoya is proof how much skill it takes to race NASCAR. He hasn’t beasted anyone. He is a talent but where are all his wins?

    3. Stephen F

I agree with you to a point, however you’re basing your argument from one perspective, the actual driver in a real race. Watching races around oval tracks can be extremely boring and playing a video game where you’re constantly going from straight to left turn can be monotonous to say the least. I’ve watched NASCAR a few times and I found it to be ok, I’m from the UK and find the extended highlights much more appealing to watch than a full race but I can understand why people find it boring although there is a certain amount of ignorance toward the sport with regards to the skill involved. Having said that, NASCAR isn’t popular worldwide so PD were never going to make it a big part of GT5, the amount of complaints from NASCAR fans is a bit much considering it’s not a NASCAR game and also PD’s first attempt at incorporating NASCAR into the GT series.

    4. thal689

Stephen F it the complaints come from the fact that EA didn’t put out a good NASCAR game since 2003. And NR2003 on the pc has been modded for years. So its been 7 years for us. I bought every EA title and kept going back to 03. I am not alone. On the NTG2011 forum all agree with this. So we have waited longer for a good game to come out then GT fans. EA SHI* on us for years. There are now dropped from NASCAR and eutechnyx is making a game coming out Feb 2011

    5. brainfade

@AGNT09 Franchitti and Montoya arent really examples of stellar talents, but yes, Oval racing does have its own difficulty but it is NOT more difficult than road course… ive actually seen idiots say Daytona is a bigger challenge than Spa which is very idiotic.

Your also forgetting that half the NASCAR driver line up went into NASCAR after starting in open wheel road course and oval racing.

    6. thal689

The track isn’t more difficult its the actual race that is. Racing both track and other drivers. Instead of just racing the track

  5. brainfade

NASCAR fans get over yourselves, if your only buying GT5 just because you only want to play NASCAR then why are you wasting your money? GT5 is supposed to represent as many forms of mainstream motorsport as possible, this is GT’s 1st attempt at NASCAR so obviously theres going to be problems.

Yes theres only 12 cars, yes the rolling start is abit to staggered but this is for a first attempt quite good, they can easily fix this in the future through patches and DLC like F1 2010 did with their flaws.

As for the drivers names in game… those are PLAYER NAMES not driver names, the idea is you get the drive the car of the NASCAR driver not PLAY AS the driver… you guys have seriously made yourself look stupid picking that out as a flaw.

Yes NASCAR 11 has, as you say, a better representation of NASCAR but your forgetting one thing, NASCAR 11 is a BESPOKE NASCAR game, they have less things to cram onto disc, ram and processing so they can go deeper into the NASCAR feel, if you try to have say for example SuperGT in the NASCAR game then obviously similar flaws to what we see here will pop up in that games representation of SuperGT.

Now you tell me who’s looking down their noses NASCAR fans?

    1. thal689

Almost 90% of guys on this forum look down at NASCAR. I’m not buying it for just NASCAR, but the ignorance, ignorance, and lack of knowledge at the same time by people on this site make me wanna……….

    2. NASCARFAN160

Hey, not all of us love the game ONLY for NASCAR. FYI I have ALL the GT games yet to be released to North America; GT1,2,3,4,5P,PSP.

    3. brainfade

Yeah i’ve noticed, theres too much Oval vs Road Race snobbery on both sides to be honest, i wouldn’t say 90% of them look down on NASCAR, only 40-50%, some only like cars and couldn’t care less about motorsport and some are hardcore motorsports enthusiasts, but it does show how GT brings together alot of different car and motorsports lovers.

All it is lack of understanding, I’ll admit i used to find NASCAR boring then i watched the Daytona 500 and got to understand the sport and I have to say that NASCAR is deffinately one of the worlds greatest sporting spectacles.

    4. AGNT009

The game is supposed to be a small representation of a NASCAR experience. But when you look up at the leaderboard to see if your beating the pants off of Jimmie Johnson, or where that Lowes bastard is in the pack behind you, you see a generic name instead? Fail. Nearly EPIC Fail. Especially for Single Player mode. I could understand that being the case for online.

    5. brainfade

@ AGNT09 you’re about as narrow minded as the typical redneck who doesn’t vote Obama just because he’s black

    6. thal689

I figured out a while ago that this wasn’t a NASCAR game. More like a way to sell more copies to Americans. But its really good that its in the game. I know some haters will play Daytona and Indy and say this isn’t half bad. Maybe I’ll look into other games on NASCAR. Or watch a few laps if its on TV. GT5 has so much in it. It was never gonna have 43 car or all 23 tracks.

  6. Rios

I love all the complaining. We complain until we gat a feature, and then once we get it we complain some more. You know they didn’t have to include a pit crew at all really.

  7. shift_drift

I am excited for Nascar. It will be a refreshing change of pace after racing, drifting, rallying and playing barbie with all my cars (switching wheels and paint). Im racing with a wheel and it is actually intense trying to make a perfect racing line while on the verge of loosing it.

  8. thal689

This game won’t change the minds of the ignorant gt guys about NASCAR. Because it isn’t anything close to the real thing. About 1/50th of a NASCAR game. Nascarthegame 2011 is the real deal. Gt guys are to busy holding there noses up to buy it

    1. brainfade

lol… this is GT’s 1st attempt at NASCAR so its a no brainer that its going to have a few problems here and there, the idea is that they put it out, see what people think and then look at how to improve this section of the game, lets not forget that NASCAR is probably 5% of what is a pretty huge game in terms of depth.

    2. thal689

Yea I’m gonna love the game. It will make xbox guys envy us. I just wanted one 1.5 mile oval. Indy is basically a big road course. They should’ve done Texas and bristol . But I’m happy that such a big game decided to NASCAR in there game. It shows how beast gt is. Been playing since gt1 i am 30 years old and a fan of all form of racing

    3. brainfade

LOL come again? Indy is not a road course, its one of the world’s oldest ovals from an era that saw ovals springing up across the world

    4. thal689

Indy is setup more like a road course in the NASCAR world. And you drive it like a road course. There isn’t much banking, I know if your not really in depth with NASCAR how dumb and weird that sounds. But its true. Indy and Daytona isn’t the best picks. I think it was the easiest picks for PD. The phisics are like a road course at INDY and DAYTONA is just plate racing. Adding TEXAS or BRISTOL would’ve made alot more work for PD. I mean come on in there PD nascar video thats the track they went to TEXAS. Then they didn’t put it in the game.

    5. brainfade

Bristol is probably by favorite oval track of them all, that and Talladega, problem is with the amount of detail PD but into the game, its a real cram and compromise with what courses to include.

  9. AGNT009

So, its official, they RUINED NASCAR. Its a 12 car field, and he’s about as far back as the 20th row from the leader. Whats the point of double file restarts when you have them THIS FAR back. The physics are awful, the speed that Jeff went up and hit the other car should have taken out one or both of them. Nice to see pit road is on automation. So, why even slow down for pit road? Just nose dive it in there at 170 mph, and the pit road tractor beam will catch you. Assuming they dont hand out a speeding penalty. If not, the only way to come out ahead of the other guy is to dive bomb into pit road first. Awful pit stop times. And if that was Single player, they are STILL using generic names in the field, instead of using the drivers names? You cant even tell what name goes to what car, so the leaderboard is pointless because you have no idea who is driving what number. Thank you Kaz. Thank you very much :|

    1. BubbleBelly542

DUDE! Calm down its “Gran Turismo 5” not “NASCAR 5”, I’m happy they have it at all and if you care save your money and get NASCAR 11. For the physics part… YEAH! But it could be on the beginner physics which, shouldn’t change impact phyisics but… EH

    2. lilmann73

The PS3 can only handle 12 cars due to GT5’s detail, he has standard physics in arcade mode, he slowed down because he wanted to keep the pitting realistic, they have generic names because some people may not have wanted their name in the game. Thank you, Kaz, for doing the best that the world will allow.

    3. The-Spitfeather

shut the hell up. They could have easily put 20 or more cars in a race but it would impossible to race. How do you know about the physics if you have never played on it. As for the drivers names it isn’t just a case of sticking their name to a car. They have to get the constracts and they would have to delay the game again.Kaz has created the best racing simulator of all time. If you dont like it then dont buy it.

    4. AGNT009

Any decent NASCAR fan can look at the game footage and tell you how good the physics are. And the speed and type of hit Jeff did as he came up into that car WOULD HAVE wrecked them big time. Id like to think that was the Kiddie physics, but Im doubting it. In NASCAR, if you so much as sneeze on the superspeedway you can spin yourself out, lol. Even just hitting the back of another car in the turns can spin YOURSELF. Ask any PC Nascar Racing 2003 driver. Im giving the game a hard time because we heard they were supposedly implementing as many NASCAR rules as possible, yet it appears they ignored nearly all of them. As for names, uh hello, they already got the “contracts” in hand. You telling me that isnt Dale Earnhardt Jr’s name on the roof of his car? They HAVE the names. I could see generic names for other cars, but when you have LICENSED drivers in the game, yet dont put those names in the Leaderboard, its absurd. No ifs ands or butts about it. Now, GT pit road has always had a tractor beam to catch you, but I had my fingers crossed we’d see free drive in a NASCAR pit road. For NASCAR, pit road driving/skill is HALF the race. Not speeding, getting in and out of crowded pit stalls, peeling out as you exit, not hitting other cars leaving and entering, etc. The game doesnt even TRY to be NASCAR at all. Its simply a NASCAR skinned car, and I’ll just accept that. But thats NOT what they made us believe

  10. Zuel

The pit lane menu doesn’t give us a lot of time to make a chose which is good. As well being able to pick a tire compound for either side of the car is great. I can see that NASCAR is going to be a lot of fun.

  11. occasionalracer

Though I dislike NASCAR, what I liked about this vid was the natural look of the mechanics jumping out… very smooth and real looking.

  12. Hypergolem

Nascar is maybe more than just driving in circles, but it still remains boring. Formula 1 can be boring too, but at least there you have incredible technology, the best of the pilots and the highest car performances.

    1. BubbleBelly542

I don’t think yopu realise the purpose of NASCAR! NACAR stands for National Association for *Stock Car* Auto Racing. Emphasis on the STOCK CAR. Though they do have very advanced technology that you do not notice (becuase you are ignorant), they stay with carbeurated engines to keep it how it was. Now obviously they do have a lot of new technology but and generic cars, but they want to keep it original (and fair which is Bull) but… YA

    2. Hypergolem

Put 50 drivers on a straight at 300 mph 2 inch from each other and it will be still boring… A driver should be able to brake at the right moment and steer also to the right… Ever wondered why is Nascar popular only in the USA and mostly in the southern states of the USA?

    3. Blues

Yeah its definitely boring. Its an entirely different skill set from circuit racing, and although popular in certain parts of the states, I am definitely not a fan.

Just because they are going fast, doesn’t mean its exciting. I fail to see the point of a race when the guy out front automatically becomes the slowest person on the track.

    4. MintBerryCrunch

Why the hell do people like you exist?
Just because you find something boring doesn’t mean everybody else does. If you don’t like NASCAR that’s fine, but don’t be an ignorant little prick and bitch out all the people who do like it.

    5. Hypergolem

Who said anything to bitch anybody… I said it is boring… and read this from wikipedia:
“Expanding into international markets could increase NASCAR’s popularity and allow foreign sponsors and manufactures to get involved in the sport.[citation needed] Some think this could be a very positive move for NASCAR, which has seen its television ratings drop 21 percent between 2005 and 2007. This was the first time this had happened in over 15 years During the same 2 year period, NASCAR also saw the greatest drop in tickets prices observed in over a decade.[34] Some think that an increase in international diversity would translate into growth and generate greater opportunities for NASCAR fans”

    6. Hypergolem

And this about how exciting NASCAR is:
Most recently, NASCAR has been challenged on the types and frequency of caution flags, with some critics suggesting the outcome of races is being manipulated, and that the intention is not safety, as NASCAR claims, but closer racing.

    7. thal689

Watch Marcos brake and look how many times he’s gotta play with the throttle coming off the turn 3 and 4. He’s on off the gas 4 or 5 times. It’s so much more then just cranking left on the wheel and staying in the draft.

  13. Paul Mc

Looks very fluid! Nice implementation I think. NASCAR pit crews are not like F1 pit crews. Less people. Slower stop

    1. Will

Not only do tire changers have to account for double the amount of tires, but there’s also the fact that each wheel has five lugnuts. F1 stops may be faster but it takes a lot more skill and precision to change tires in NASCAR.

    2. brainfade

@Will i disagree with you there, it takes endless practice to do a stop as quick as the F1 teams do, thats why Mercedes GP recruited guys from DTM, same goes for the NASCAR pit crews.

If NASCAR has only one wheelnut to change then what you’ll find is that the tyre change times will be more or less the same. In fact the same will go for alot of racing series around the world.

  14. Mig

i still dont understand how a circle brings in huge crowds, do they crash all the time or about as much as any other motorsport?

    1. Grimes

That “circle racing” is more than just steering left…
Racing on that ovals are really hard one smal mistake and you crash very hard and you can follow the full race on the track side.

    2. occasionalracer

It is almost unbelievable the crowds that show up for NASCAR… but yes there are many more crashes than other motorsports, which is arguably the most exciting part for the crowds. Trust me if there were only 1-2 crashes per race, I don’t think anyone would show up. I don’t think it’s possible to have fun with NASCAR in this game, but admire PD’s efforts.

    3. brainfade

its spectator friendly, theres lots of colours which psychologically engages people and you can see the whole track.

    4. Marcus

I tried watching a few NASCAR races this year because GT5 has it and I wanted to see what I’d be getting. The first one i watched was infineon and i supported my jimmie johnston because i am also Johnston and he won the race and i think he won his fifth title on sunday.

Anyway the race was sinfully boring. Nobody overtook and people made silly mistakes and it lasted for hours. The most exciting bit was the pit stops because it looks exciting.

I thought i would try an oval race so i watched the indy. This was even worse despite the fact there was overtaking. I think the problem is that NASCAR dosn’t require any serious driving skill to overtake, just tuck behind the car in front and slingshot them.

Anyway this has been me in a round about way saying that NASCAR sucks (don’t stone me)

  15. ssupr@96

I think during the pit, you can say how much gas you want. That’s new. I did notice each wrench guy seemed to wait for the other wrench guy to get done before starting on his wheel. I would like a view of a few cars pitting at the same time if possible.

    1. The-Spitfeather

you could choose the amount of fuel or gas as you wanted in GT4. Im sure in the real game there will be more pit crews. In some trailers it shows multiple pit crews :)

  16. Kyle Busch #18 fan

a 30 second stop? That’s terrible. A real Nascar crew can change 4 tires in half the time. And 12 cars on the track…

I know they’re trying to share with the rest of the world what NASCAR is all about, but it looks to me GT5 Nascar sucks (*for lack of better words)..!
    This looks really bad.

    1. 24fan

I think you’re getting a bit confused. I THINK that was the lap time clock going by because the pit stall was just past the S/F line, but counting it the way they really do (time when the car enters the box ’til it exits the box), that was really a 23 or 24 second stop. Still shamefully slow.

    2. brainfade

Kyle Busch fan (p.s. Busch should be strong for the ’11 title) and BubbleBelly, if your going to pick out a flaw, don’t troll about it like snobs, its coming across as slightly offensive towards some of the GT fans on here, you’d feel the same if F1 fans came onto a NASCAR sight and started having a go at the lack of right hand turns.

…but i do agree its a pretty slow stop, but its just a pitstop, its not like its going to ruin the whole game, also by the looks of it this is taken from arcade so the physics arent going to be sim-level, the games set up so the physics get more advanced when you play the games main mode

    1. brainfade

yes they have taken the restrictor plates off by the looks of it, remember GT2 featured the JGTC cars with the air restrictors taken off, hence why the BHP jumped from 490 to 700 with GTRs, 460 to 640 with the NSXs and 470 to 660 with the Supras

    1. brainfade

@rydeen I watch pretty much every form of motorsport there is, yes i am not a fan of NASCAR but i dont blindly shun it as it can be interesting, not all ovals are the same, they all have different surfaces, lenths, bankings, etc. some are more of less flat out like talladega and daytona and others require alot of braking like say, richmond or bristol.

I say this to people who find cricket boring – in order to be amused by a sport you need to be able to understand it in a certain degree.
