Polyphony Digital and Sony Honda Mobility have jointly announced a livery design competition for the Afeela 1 electric vehicle, running in Gran Turismo 7 for the next three weeks.
You’ll be able to enter the contest from today and up until Thursday May 22 — though no deadline time or time zone has been announced — by simply assembling a livery for the Afeela Prototype ’24 in Gran Turismo 7’s livery editor, sharing it, and filling out an entry form.
If you’re not familiar with Afeela, it’s the brand behind latest version of the vehicle first shown by Sony back in 2020 as the Vision-S. The car has been through a few refreshes since then, as well as becoming the lynchpin in the “Afeela” brand that’s the face of the “Sony Honda Mobility” joint-venture between… well, Sony and Honda.

While one of the world’s largest consumer electronics firms, Sony has no experience of building vehicles, so it came as quite a surprise when the car was first revealed. Honda, of course, has more than 60 years’ experience of manufacturing cars, so the combination of the two brands is one that makes a good bit of sense.
Naturally the “1” — Afeela being the brand, and the sedan bearing this singular model name — is an electric vehicle majoring on tech. Sony Honda Mobility president and chief operating officer Izumi Kawanishi even drove the prototype vehicle onto the stage with a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2024.
Polyphony Digital is also a partner for the car, with the company’s simulation technology being part of the development pathway, and PD also creating the sounds for the two 241hp electric motors.

Thus far, Afeela has only shown off the 1 — and its Prototype — in a range of fairly uninspiring colors: Core Black, Calm White, and Tidal Grey. That’s where Gran Turismo 7 players will come in.
In order to create your livery for the vehicle, you’ll need to own one in the game (which isn’t hard: it’s available for free in Brand Central) and then do as you like in the Livery Editor. There are some pretty standard rules to adhere to here too: you may not use any logos or designs subject to third-party copyright, including those created by other players, and while it’s not actually stated outright it’s a pretty bad idea to use controversial imagery that could be deemed offensive.
Once done, you’ll need to share your saved Style with all players, furnish it with the competition tag “afeelagtlivery”, and fill out the entry form. There doesn’t appear to be a per-player limit on entries that we can spot either.
Sony Honda Mobility will select two winners — a “best” and an “outstanding” livery — and announce them in late June. The livery will then feature in subsequent Afeela promotional material, perhaps (although again not explicitly stated) even on the real thing, and in conjunction with the winner’s PSN ID.
No other benefits to winning the contest are noted, so we wouldn’t be expecting any other rewards, but if we were SHM we’d at least recreate it on a die-cast and send one to the winner.
