I have been looking at alot of responses from alot of people but my opinion is they should make a more realistic steering function, instead of steering a little at high speeds, but wen u do the same thing on your contoler at low speeds the wheel gets turned 90°. i think for the sake of YOU controlin it instead of the physics so there will be over turning and rolling of cars, just a thought. what do u guys think?

what really blows is that Forza has a masterpiece of an audio engine. Just listen to any car in the game and it closely resembles the sound of the real car. Especially the subies, ferraris and porsches which are all known for having very distinctive timbres due to their engine layouts, crankshaft design and exhaust manifold design. It’s just a shame that PD overlooked this area after having invested so much time into developping a “new” game. I agree that we’ve only heard works in progress, but I have a bad feeling that we will only be getting a polished turd of a sound engine once the game is released in 2034. Also it is annoying to me that the audio in cutscenes in gt5 trailers are real sampled audio and not ingame. Too bad since the first time I heard the super gt cars cruising down pitlane on the 08 E3 trailer I almost crapped my pants in joy. And then Prologue came out…

I’ve been modding rfactor for years just for fun and have learned many tricks on how to use a single group of engine samples for over 20 different engines, all layouts and displacements across the board.

Maybe KY just likes the sounds the way they are…

Or maybe KY should be less cocky and start playing “other” racing games :p

  4. speedy_2

Wait. he has a copy of this demo? But we only get video of the screen? How about a capture card of some sort? Either way playing another demo, watching another demo, or nothing. All the same.

  5. Ner0_sol03

    @lapster

that’s very tru about the physics engine…
To tell you the truth we really. Don’t know nothing about a game that has been in development for over 5 years .. That was suppose to be released last month… We shouldve known everything by now

  6. sprint

@BASE that what i suggested some weeks ago =)
I think we have to wait the E3. And if nothing new at E3…?

  7. BASE

What would happen if there were no activity on GTPlanet?
If we could not bother to post or comment on GT5……
Would PD freak out and give us some info?

  8. Ner0_sol03

I don’t think were going to get what they promise.. And as much as it hurts to say but it might just end up being a pretty version of forza….

  9. Carbonfibre

I stepped in here after I read the responses to Fasterbater, I honestly thought you would be slated for making those comments about sound. Seems GTPlanet has on and off days about handling criticism.

You are absolutely right obviously, PD has nailed the external doppler and spacial effects with the benefits of their synthesizing technique. However when it comes to internals, the stepped audio samples that feature prominently on the PC front have GT5 beat… for the moment, the final product isn’t out yet and I’ll reserve my judgement until then.

But currently I believe the best simulated car sounds being achieved today is not at the hands of certain PC titles but the ample modder with a good ear, expertise and of course, some good samples help too.

  10. Racer28

    @tylOr_r

Then you havent seen gtr evolution…its much closer to real life, and I`ve been there a few times…the track feels much narrower than it does here, and much more elevated. This is just a gt4 hd version with better lighting…

  11. tyl0r_r

lol @ hacking maximax’s psn! best idea ever.

track looks awesome… better than any other version i’ve seen of this track in a videogame.

    DO WANT NOW! SONY!! RELEAAAASE!

it’s so obviously ready enough to ship -_-!

  12. depe01

@Fasterbater: I hope that guy from the sound department of PD will read your posting on the stepped audio synthesis, starts Googling and … will start working right away with his team on improving the engine sounds of those 1000 cars :oP.

It will be a dream come true if I can hear genuine V8 sounds and properly sounding manual gearboxes. But this will be the first time since … GT1 (fingers crossed).

  13. Pedz

As long as this game doesn’t still have the, 100m between each car, rolling start it should be a very good game….

  14. Stu

This is just GT5P with new cars and tracks.

When are PD going to show the new features, or have they been ditched?

  15. Fasterbater

I’m talking about the stepped audio synthesis. It’s a technique we learned at game design school over 15 years ago. Now we use queued sampling such as in the Image Space line of gmotor powered racing sims ( rfactor, gtr, gt legends, nfs shift etc)

In a nutshell there have been many advances in audio synthesis over the last 10 years and PD has taken advantage of none! I’m talking about 3 different samples for each : rolling on throttle from low mid and high rpm, getting off throttle at low mid high rpm, changing gears at low mid and high, transmission load vs engine speed etc. We learned how tu do this stuff in one week of courses and PD should just know better.

  16. TokyoDrift

@dearlybeloved, I’ll also be playing through a good 5.1 setup, and that in itself helps with the sound, even if it’s not 100% authentic as people would like. I’m not too bothered as long as cars sound like cars.

When I said about the clinical racing environment, I meant just that – the track and scenery, not the AI.

  17. dearlybeloved

I am hoping that with all the HD audio available for PD to play with, that they will be making an awesome sounding game. Within context, these videos are taken straight off the tv, so no-one should expect superb audio.

When the game will be released in all it’s entirety, the sound will be mindblowing and what comes to mind is the amuse skyline in GT4. One question mind… how many people are going to play the game using 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 surround sound? I for one assuming I am still able to find the time to play the game will be playing the game through a 5.1 set-up.

@TokyoDrift, I would more or less agree with you on the clinical racing evironment but with one exception…the clio and a couple of others were using different racing lines because that shows that the AI has without a doubt.

    Peace out.

  18. TokyoDrift

Yep, like a few people seem to be implying, I am also getting a little bit bored by the now uneventful barrage of videos that show hardly anything new, apart from a very clinical racing environment.

  19. depe01

    @Fasterbater:

The sound (and visuals) in the GT series when watching the replays in third person are second to none (including the later PC sim racers). The only true Sim (IMO) in this respect since PD has managed to deliver (photo)realisticand realistic sounding replays since GT3. This realistic sound experience (including doppler- and spacial effects) was made possible by using a sound-sythesizer. The engine and tire sound in first-person view though is due to the use of the same synthesizer very sterile and emotionless (boring) and much better done in de NFS series (even on PS2). Its a shame dat PD did not managed to improve on there syntheziser technology (so far). I more or less expect more real to life engine sounds (less boring) with backfire pops and decent shifting (up and down ;o) sounds. On the PS3 this must technical be possible if PD put some effort in it. Lets hope…

  20. SC

There is a new GT-R video from that user. It was impressive as usual, yet disappointing because the hand kept on sinking into the steering wheel.

  21. drjsd

Agree with everything that’s been said above. I find it very hard to believe that the demo is an “early build” of the game. CES show was in Jan – I’m pretty sure the latest game would have been out to show the people there otherwise why bother?
I don’t think any of these issues are going to be addressed before such release either.
Fixing the audio or exhaust tones isn’t a simple fix is it? its going to require re-recording again.
Too much time has been spent making in car views of the drivers head turning left and right – even in a straight line? This in my view was not relevant – why not just consult this forum and find out before wasting weeks of time?

I couldn’t wait much longer for GT5 and I’ve went and bought forza 3 and a 360 this week. I’m not going to bother writing any more and being accused of being a fanboy – but the game is great and addresses audio and damage issues seen here, and the AI is bloody great on hard and don’t just adopt a normal racing line.

  22. Flagmo-T Aka Team_MoFF-No2

@ Fasterbater To be honest M8, the sound is recorded with a Cam, so you can’t really expect any reasonable judgement out of that M8.. It just wouldn’t be fair to any one, not even PD or K.Y.

BUT!!! – I don’t mind if you blame something else on The Fony Corporation, as that being the delay of the release or a smaller thing like a solid Date for releasing Hehe, but that’s just me and a few million others here :O)

  23. Jono

I don’t know if this is a human driver or not but they are pretty good. Is mimaximax the driver? If not does he have some connection to PD to enable him to get access to such a good driver?

  24. Fasterbater

Looks good, still sounds terribly off from what real motors sound like though. I beleive that the sound aspect is something that PD have just simply bailed on. PC sims dating as far back to 99 sound way better than this. They just sound too synthetic, as if the engine sounds were recorded with a cell phone and in neutral. We need the sound of engine load and the cackle of header-back race pipes, the lopey off cam idle and the rushing vaccuum of individual throttle bodies.

  25. Sam

The Driving in this videos feels just like driving a real fucking car! thats perfection!

    the animation is soooo smooth!

    The real driving simulator.

  26. lado

Hello, hmmm all the time i see this videos i try to remember one with any pit stop… mimaximax can you deliver some new videos :) hehe

  27. Interpol-007

    ZZZZZZ……ZZZZZZ…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ……….ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ……ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ……………

  28. maxpontiac

    Awesome. Thanks mimaximax!!

Dom, dearlybeloved, Big Ron, adamkob32, and anyone else who I might have missed.

It’s a Youtube video of a demo. It’s not the final game.

    Think guys!!

  29. aelange

does anyone have any inkling on the ffb strength in this demo or in the final release? i don’t know if it’s because the japanese are physically weak or something, but gt5p’s ffb could really be notched up a good 5 times more, imo.

  30. Lapster

Not sure if im the only one but, the only car that sounds as close to reality was that R34 Skyline… in that beginning approach it sounded awesome… cant say the same about the other cars as they sound so muffled. The 380RS was barely audible, and didnt even sound like a regular Z… That said, the game looks great, the track is pretty ok

  31. dearlybeloved

@mustangmiha.. thanks for the explanation. I feel the same and the wait is killing my interest in the game. Apart from even more beautiful looking cars, an improvement in the AI i.e. the clio’s behaviour, what else is there?

Please PD and KY, release the game please or at the least fill us in as to what is going on. You know I think that I should jet off to japan and kidnap that fucker KazYam and torture him so that we could get an answer but the problem with that is, I will end up in jail and then I will end up having my own unknown release date which means I will be out before the games is out!

    Peace out!

  32. Flagmo-T Aka Team_MoFF-No2

@CCJ go and kill a Fly, maybe you would find out it isn’t a fly, What!! yes Nonsense!! I do believe that the PS3, couldn’t deliver what we all have heard and also listing too for like 5-6 years now.. This track is working, but no matter how many times K.Y has been there done what ever, he didn’t use what he got with him home.. this is a Clean testimony of that my dear CCJ..

It’s very low poly in some viewable places when you drive around, not that it matter for many spots on the track, But in the viewable places they should have considered to make it a little higher in poly count, it’s just ruin the idea of GT5 being the Ultimate graphical illusion of a Race game ( This is a Demo yes, but why should it be that different from the release version, I don’t see the point in that, when we are that late in the process of releasing ) Once again I would say, it’s bad judgements on the creative table..

But again, I really don’t care now my hopes for what I was told in 2005 is long gone, because in the end it is a great Race Sim like no other, and I do look forward to it in all it’s glory, but I do also believe that because of use 1080HD/1080-3D/HD we do need to be gentle in what we expect of the PS3 to handle..

    The Fony Donkey.. (((O_o)))

ps.. Thanks to the Camera Man, The plenty of Vid’s are very appreciated..

  33. RACECAR

    @ Dom

You do relise this was again a early build demo? This isn’t necessarily what is gonna be in the final game.

  34. npsnq

in the second vid why havnt they made it so the secondary dials move aswell?!!!! lackin man its the little things like this that made GT such a good game but now….!

  35. adamkob32

I really hope the engine and sound effects are worked on for the final version. They are always the most disappointing part of these Gran Turismo series. This one seems all the same so far.

  36. Mustangmiha

    @dearlybeloved

Sadly, I am still an GT fan, but this waiting is killing me, just like everyone! So I’m saying that I am/we are tired of all those trailers, boring leaked videos. Where is the demo? They should released it even if is game 65% finished. But at least, I’m getting cooler with GT2, I don’t even remember when I played it!

  37. GTracerRens

Looks great, but indeed, the tarmac looks very clean. In the prologue the grass next to the track was also very clean but they have changed that in GT5… But still it looks good, but we are all waiting for too long… :(

  38. adil

    big salute to mimaximax ..
pls keep on torturing us ,sweet punishment i lost wieght seeing gt5 clips ,boost 4 more clipos

  39. mk1992

I don’t know which easter bunny is running Promophony Digital right now, but we’d like to hear some dates when we can expect to meet in an abandoned car park to get a game?

  40. Big Ron

    @dearlybeloved
the tarmac of the Nordschleife isn´t decades old. Was updated several years ago, I was there last year and it didnßt look dirty or something.

But in most cases, it is just an high poly uppdate of the GT4-track. They didn´t made the work to introduce the commercial boards at Karrusell or at other places.

It looks more as a country road than the Nordschleife. No feeling for a race track, without any atmosphere.

    Bad work, PD

  41. CCJ

    @ Dom

So has Kaz, quite a few, times, and he has raced there, a few times
Plus spent 1 month photographing, videoing and measuring the coruse

I think he knows it better than you do ;)

  42. dearlybeloved

The tarmac looks so clean and new and this is meant to be the nurburgring. It is meant to look dirty, and battered and decades old. That is why the lack of dynamic skidmarks will kill it for me. @Mustangmiha, I don’t fully get your comment. are you saying that you are no longer a GT fan?

    Please explain and Peace out.

  43. Dom

Thank you minimax, but it’s enough now. Moreover, I don’t like the way the Nordschleife looks like in GT5. It’s the green hell. It’s a dark narrow course. It’s all, but it’s not comfortable to drive there. I did it myself and I watched several races there in person. It never was sunny and the vegitation is certainly not neon/light green.
GT5 makes it look like a fun place – it’s not! In addition, the track details are more or less GT4 in HD.

  44. Jordan

@AlteredNicolas: These are the only tracks that were included in that demo, so until another demo is shown off this is all we’ve got for now.
