iam so happy about the rain and snow but what i wonder is if your driving a car with the i don’t know standard DFGT does every car feel diffrent with the wheel like the ford gt has loose terrible steering control will it be like that on the steering wheel please answer if you have any ideas

    1. occasionalracer

Once you loose traction or grip you will immediately feel Force Feedback wheels loosing strength in force replicating loss of control. And yes all cars feel slightly different.

  2. RE515TANT

Did anyone happen to notice the longer course on the map?
Good news for many tracks, even the newer fictional ones, having alternate courses.

  3. HaVoK_

This was exactly what i was worried about. Damn old buckets of rust in GT5. Why the hell would i want to drive any one of these vehicles? Granted, the graphics are fantastic, but for me at least, there is no point in having such old and obsolete vehicles in Gt. Why put a VW van when you can put any number of cars that are more fun to drive? Anyway, next thing you know they will put the Ford model T in the game also, just like Gt4. All in all, i love this game but i question the reasons for these vehicles.

    1. GT_Nige

Because different people have different tastes. I love the fact that they are in the game, they are motoring heritage and had a huge influence on what cars are today. I’m not a big fan of modern cars, they seem to lack any real character. You don’t have to drive them, but if you do they are there.

    2. DrTrouserPlank

GT isn’t all about supercars. It’s about variety.

I’m glad it’s got such a cross-section of cars as I don’t always want to drive 600bhp cars.

The variety is what sets GT apart from other racers.

  4. Big Ron

what I noticed at Eiger Nordwand in rain is, that you can´t see any reflections on the road with wet track. When you watch the night screens in rain, the track reflects a lot but not the day rain tracks.

I noticed it, because I wondered, where the rain spray comes from when the road looks dry.

    1. machine4321

I cant remember the last time i saw road reflections on a cloudy day…….doesnt make sence. at night it is a different story as lights will reflect easily .

  5. jimmywizz

any one see the alternative route on Eiger? on the first vid at about 29 sec, at the first hair pin on the map you can see the road goes strate on and then joins again at the bridge, I think.

  6. nintandrew

Is it just me, or is the right taillight of the car in the first vid out? The brake light still works, but the taillight doesn’t. I can’t believe no one here would have missed this, so I must be the one missing something.
Also, no rain seems to be falling into the cockpit in the third video.
Anyway, this game looks awesome! Can’t wait for the Tesla Roadster at night, in the rain on the ‘Ring. ^_^

  7. bicarb

I don’t want to sound negative and hope I’m proven wrong but the weather in these videos doesn’t look as good as F1 2010!

    1. vigi147

      I’ll explain why..

Most of the time there’s no actual rain. There are just random water drops vibrating on your visor. And interestingly enough there are no drops in the center of the screen. Presuming someone faster than my grandma is driving the F1 car, i’d expect some spray on the screen and the existing drops to be blown of.
BUT! when you reach a speed of 215 km/h or greater everything goes extra blurry.. Even Dr. Emmet Brown would be proud of that.

Oh, the tarmac does look good.

  8. Zowne

In the 3rd video, watch the rear-view mirror between 1:07 and 1:26… It’s not a big deal, but it would be nice if the final build did not see objects in the mirror just disappear.

Otherwise, the game is looking absolutely fantastic. My Playseat+G27 arrived today and GT5 will be the first game I test it on. Seriously can not wait!

  9. Aquarius086

It would be nice to manually turn the windshield wipers on and off. Brings back old memories about test drive 3 on pc..

  10. general of the army

I dont think the rain thing is so epic , GTA IV got it perfectly , & whats wrong with the subaru tai light in the first vid , is it damage ?!!

    1. Big Ron

Then buy a better phone. It is silly to read all this silly post about your stupid iPhone. You should choose a better phone manufacturer than Apple ;)

  11. SgtWhitten

Why was it raining in the tunnel? the ground should be dry and the mountain side its under should stop the rain lol. That really would make the race interesting as you go from wet to dry road.

    1. Mr Frappy

It wasn’t raining in the tunnel. Are you mistaking the grainy textures due to the low quality of the video as being a mild rain effect…??? Besides, one side of that tunnel is open so rain could blow in and make the road wet. Plus, in real life, cars drag water in with them and drop it onto the ground as they drive through, so it is perfectly normal for tunnels (short ones anyway) to have wet surfaces.

    2. SgtWhitten

It’d be interesting to watch a track go from dry to wet, I wonder if the whole track gets wet, even in the tunnel like shown in this video.

    3. Erik

The tunnel is a downhill, so you’d have water flowing down from the top of the hill where the exit is. On the other hand, that wouldn’t cover all of the tarmac, but rather stay in a few main streams. But hey, for a first attempt at weather (and crushing all other weather effects ever seen before) I say it’s pretty good :)

  12. Nicxk

I’m not sure whether it’s just the video quality but in the top clip with the Impreza, when using the extrenal view the car didn’t really seem to be attached to the road. It just seemed to glide about.

    1. UNOC

I thought exactly the same thing.. as if it was stuck with no wheel turning and it just span… sliding….

BUT it’s the same build as the rest… and the rest are fine so it must be good.

The wheels on teh impreza looked like weird black rectangles rather than tyres. Looked ok on the rest so It is probably video quality and just weird angle from camera onto weird angle for screen

    2. Mr Frappy

Yep, exactly what it looked like to me as well, awful really. If you look closely at the video you can see that the spray is just getting thrown around the tyre, not behind it, so you just see this black silhouette of a rectangular tyre which looks like it is not in contact with the road. In those conditions, you would not be able to see the rear wheels at all due to the amount of spray that would get kicked up.

    3. Mr Frappy

Although I will add, just like the shadows in the other videos, we have seen them look great, and look awful. I guess the game just isn’t finished yet and things still need optimising.

    4. occasionalracer

Yes… mud flaps people, the majority of the spray is being blocked and obviously some water will whirl around. Those are not the tires themselves.

    5. J-KiLLA24

@ Mr Frappy, the rectangles that you see at the bottom of the car are mud flaps not tires. That why all the water is mostly getting sprayed around the tires and why it doesn’t look like it’s touching the ground.

  13. RedBaron

I didn’t know why Eiger video looked fake to me and I realized that road isn’t wet at all. I mean spills and all those reflections that wet roads do. Other than that all the news look fantastic and GT5 will be huge game to enjoy.

  14. Mr Frappy

So, nice to see weather I guess, and even nicer to see standing starts. Seems to me though that their main focus was how it looks from within the cockpit. Maybe it was the low quality videos, but when the vehicles were at a standing start, I couldn’t see the pounding rain splashing off them or any signs that they were wet. Plus, in the Subaru video when they show you the behind the car view, it looks like the car is floating in mid air and not driving on a road kicking up spray.

Don’t get me wrong, I think they have done an admirable job, but unless this is an old, unoptimised build, I think PD have bitten off more than they can chew. Still, I’ll reserve judgment until the game is on my own screen!

    1. BrijG

Agreed, don’t get me wrong the effects are very well done, but I just hope come release day there is more spray from the cars and more rain effects like puddles etc on the ground.
Also did anyone feel that the rain was only hitting the jeeps’ windshield, take a long at the wing mirrors and around the windshield, doesn’t seem to be any rain (or it could be the video quality).

  15. BrijG

Don’t judge me, but do these vids have sound or have I not worked out the intricacies of sound sliders?? I wanna hear engine noises :D

  16. John Marine

I could only see the Volkswagen T2 Type 1 (which I blogged about once) video. I still consider Project Gotham Racing 4 as the gold standard of rain effects for a racing game. This, however, looks pretty impressive.

  17. BWX

Yeah the VW Jeep got around the corners twice as fast. Better not be like that in the game… I don’t care what kind of tires were on the cars, WRX STI would always crush those other vehicles around corners. :-/

    1. ginga.ninja86

I used to think that WRX STI’s were pretty damn quick as well, dont deny that they still are, however anything thats had enough money thrown at it in all the right places can make a heck of a difference, I was in a STI wagon a wee while ago and got blitzed by an accord euro. Only hint it was fast was the number plate..”UTRIED”, try we did and we didnt catch him…2nd gear on full boost in a straight line and he was still pulling away from us…

    2. occasionalracer

Way to make a pathetic comparison to a vid with a total newb to racing to your personal experience in a race with an Accord in a straight line. To drive a WRX in the wet takes proper throttle and brake input which was so off in that vid, and your little story of an accord pulling away from you had to have taken place on dry surface. No FF will beat 4WD in wet, snow or any loose surface, especially through corners.

  18. user44

The VW bus looks awesome! But the video looks a bit too fake when they show all the vans in crowded together on such a narrow track. Other than that, AMAZING GRAPHICS!

  19. chris

i think that real time weather will only be used on real world tracks/ locations.

im assuming any original track not set in a real world location wont feature realtime weather…. trial mountain, mid field raceway, grand valley. autumn valley, high speed ring…. needs confirming. whether these will be settable as dry/wet day/night.

    1. Tim

Only endurance races get *dynamic* (ie. changing) weather. I believe that most (if not all) tracks can be played under different weather/lighting conditions, but these will be fixed for the duration of the race.

    2. Sharky

@Jakemania: considering the version of Eiger in the first video doesn’t have a pitlane and is therefore unsuitable for endurance racing, I believe that all tracks will get weather of some sort, like Tim said.

    3. Jakemania

That’s a good point Tim. But why would a custom track receive dynamic weather as compared to a regular track? I wish I remembered where I read that. That’s the problem when you are up at 4 in the morning I guess =p.

    4. Russ

On GTP it says the current weather of certain tracks, but really why?
I’m thinking there may me something like “current weather races” or something along those lines.
      Probably just wishful thinking though

  20. Palleraa

Two concerns: How can PD make the chase-cam on the WRX so horrible and the interrior-cam so freakin awesome?

Second: The interior-cam is a even greater handicap now with the rain in a competitive situation compared to the bonnet/bumper cam. Wonder if anyone will use it other than to enjoy the stunning effects.

    1. twinspark24

Yep, with the follow cam it feels as if the impreza is statick and the track goes under it. very unnatural. still, the rest of the cams are awesome!

  21. Maa

In the last two videos there should be a good deal of leaning from those cars, yet I don’t see much if any. Especially in that jeep it feels like it doesn’t sway at all. Or is that just the impression one gets via these videos?

    1. Jakemania

You know, I thought something looked slightly unnatural. I think that’s a good analysis. I tend to agree from these videos. They’re moving around the track, but you don’t see the actual appearance of any tilt from the physics.

  22. Jeniczech

And another opinion.. :D Why do we have all theese Vans, jeeps and etc. in the game? I am wondering, if there will be trafic on trucks.. It would be just dream come true..

    1. Jeniczech

tacks or Courses of course.. I would be amazed, if there would be some system in this game, which would allow us to have 100 cars from different classes on Nordschleife and they will sort of pop out once you will be near of them and disapier once they are far behind you, that would be something from heaven. :D

  23. gta

/\ /\ Great comments! did u guys see the 2D tree at 1:56? That means we must get livery editer! Woowooop! Im getting ghauspunks and I’m peeing myself and my brother to!

  24. Jeniczech

Well, how is it looking with theese cockpits? I have got a feeling, that we will get cockpits for all cars after all.. :D Otherwise I do not understand why the Polyphony would choice cockpit for that junky Jeepy truck.. :D

    1. heymoa

I hope so, out of the 200ish premium cars we have a Fiat 500, 1 maybe 2 VW’s, that Izuzu 4200R concept car, hopefully only one Nascar….. what else is there that I wouldn’t class as a premium car?

    2. ShantJ

Being premium has nothing to do with people “likes and dislikes.” Just because it’s not a supercar, doesn’t mean it’ll be standard.

    3. Jakemania

Yeah, especially considering how long it takes to model the interiors. I probably never drive that VW unless I am forced to lol.

    4. Jakemania

That is a fair point Shant but what is the point of taking all that time to model a vehicle that 99.52% of the GT community will never drive more than once or twice?

    5. Jeniczech

If you check this cockpit closely, than you can see. That it is pretty far from the quality of Ferraris and Lambos, which we seen before. It is almost same level as Forza cockpits, but of course they are better than forza-onse..

    6. Jordan

I think the answer to that question is “because Kazunori wanted to”. :P He seems to be quite an enthusiast for odd and unusual automobiles. I think these little surprises (remember the Diahatsu Midget 2?) give the GT series a lot of character.

    7. Jakemania

Haha yeah Jordan, I think that’s about as good of an answer as we’ll ever get. Gotta love the guy, even with his slight eccentricities!

    8. Mr Frappy

Jeniczech, oh yeah, of course they are better than Forza ones… :o/ Honestly, fanboys are nothing but bad news for the GT community.

    9. Mr Frappy

Aint’ hindsight a wonderful thing? You only say that because I commented on it!

Anyway, it doesn’t change what GT5 is or will be – truly incredible.

    10. Erik

Again: Premium seems to be cars originally modeled for GT5. Also including cars that may have appeared in earlier games, but has been remodeled for this game. Standard cars seems to be models from earlier games, although featured in higher definition and maybe a few other upgrades. Not modeled from scratch though. To conclude: Premium and standard does not mean “popular” and “impopular”, “supercar” and “average hatchback” or “cars of 2009/2010” and “older cars”. Rather it means “GT5 level of detail” and “previous GT level of detail.”
And to answer the question about level of detail in the Kubelwagen, it’s pretty damn accurate to the original car. It’s an army WW2 off road vehicle, it doesn’t come with carbon fibre panels! If the dashboard looks flat and gray, it’s because it is flat and gray on the real car.

    11. HugoStiglitz_420

no, you people are trying to sugar coat it. when a random japenese car, a stupid VW WW2 car, & a hippie bus get better treatment than a AMG CLK-GTR, jaguar xj220, toyota GT-ONE, & saleen S7, it’s straight up retarded. I agree with & understand why we might a premium car from each class but these cars are useless, they’ll only be used for a one off race & that’s it, while most of use the xj220 at least 100 times. I just hope they realize how important patching the standard cars into premium is. at a later time of course. I hope what they meant by already working on gt6 was finishing the cars because anything else would be less important.

    12. Vulcao

Cockpits in old cars are more important than on new ones.

Old cars haven’t been putting into the game for racing enthusiasts, but for car lovers. As someone said at InsideSimRacing, GT5 is the biggest virtual cars museum. The Fiat 500 and those VWs, for example, deserve more than new cars the status of “museum car”. I wouldn’t visit a car museum that don’t show the interior of the vehicles. On the other hand, racing cars are focused on racing (really?), on players who want to race, not on the historical side of the game, then they don’t need a cockpit.

    13. neem'

The divide between people who don’t want classic cars to be Premium and those who like them really highlights those who love cars and those who love fast ones. GT is clearly a simulator for everyone (due to the massive range of cars (as in the fact it has everything from a Daihatsu Midget to a Toyota GT-ONE, not that it has 1,000+ cars) and driving and tuning options), but it really does seem to favour the car enthusiasts. The kind who can tell you the difference between an R34 GT-R V Spec and R34 GT-R M Spec, or can tell you why the Citroen badge is a pair of chevrons, or why the Evo VI RS has a five speed gearbox and the GSR has six. Really boring people, basically.

Which is brilliant and it’s why I’ll probably never buy another driving game until GT6.

    14. Vulcao

      neem’,

great comment to close this discussion (although it will never be closed lol).

PS: sorry for my grammar mistakes.

  25. Pelle

Great! Couln’t be happier with the rain.

OT: Gamersyde still struggling with bandwidth issues? Why don’t they publish their vids in YT? Or try using a compact html5 vid intead of a flash stream?

  26. Z06onGT5

wow! omg! and to think i thought pgr4 set the standard for weather….i guess the only i can predict is accuweatherfailcast….lol tell me again ppl how long is this wait of driving perfection!? AARRGGHH…THIS IS MADNESS!!!!

    1. FlareKR

When many other cars deserve a premium status more than this hippy box.
Unless I can turn it into a boat and make tea in it, I won’t care about it. I’ll just see it as another waste of precious disk space.

    1. Rotard12a

@Quency Agreed! I’ve always wanted to see what rain on the windshield looks like at 150 miles per hour haha

@Gejost Just because you can never be pleased doesn’t mean you need to go around posting whiny, unrelated replies

    1. Jakemania

Agreed. The only thing I am a bit confused about: Why does it look so bright if it’s raining? In the cockpit view, it almost looked like a snowstorm with all the brightness. Is it just the camera angle?

    2. Jakemania

Edit: I guess that was only the first video. Good thing the in the 3rd video it wasn’t TOO realistic… That would suck driving a convertible in the rain. It’d be about impossible to see looking through a rainy visor AND the windshield lol. I like the glowy look of the race line. Again, I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the camera or the weather but it looks much better than the regular bland one.

Does anyone know if we will be able to adjust the camera level in the cockpit view? Those splash guards are sure looking pretty sturdy. October is gonna be a long month. I’m gonna need something to occupy me!

    3. Mr Frappy

Another typical idiotic first post by somebody who is so afraid to get beaten that they just resort to using one word…

    4. Lukyboi

Is eiger nordwand a rally track or a proper track. I saw something on the track map after turn 1 and I’m wondering if it’s a pit lane. I didn’t have prologue.

    5. FlareKR

      Mentality of FIRST!
      by FlareKR
A long time, when computers weren’t around, people were thirsty. They would walk around the desert looking for water. When one of them got water they said “FIRST!” due to a speech impediment, bringing on a lack of producing a TH sound, brought on to them by lack of water. They usually drank it all, while everyone else killed themselves drinking motor oil after watching Quantum of Solace.
Later, people “thirsty for attention” and lack of a certain male organ, started to do the same to the Forum GTPlanetum (and just about every thing you can comment on), barging through the front doors of the forum without a toga screaming FIRST!. However, after a while, people with lives started to get pissed off, apart from the anger building up from the invasion of trolls that were knocking down columns.
After knowing they would be ridiculed repeatedly, the “thirsty” GTPlanetans, started replace, FIRST, with other one syllable comments like COOL, NICE. Other sane people replied with less nicer one word syllables, usually those starting with an F. So in the end, you can bring a horse to water, but he’s probably already there.
      -The End

    6. jamiejones

@Jakemania – when you mentioned about it not being realistic in the convertible are you being serious, how do you think F1 drivers race in the rain. and FYI they are going alot faster than the truck my friend. :D so yes, it’s realistic my friend or maybe you think moto gp game are fake because they race when its raining too and they manage to get on with it. the helmets have removable visors that peel off when they are dirty or wet in some circumstances. THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE THE BEST. who wants to get a bunch of us and race on the nurburgring at night in the rain in go karts :D:D
