    i love how they have based this cart circuit on Piazza Del Campo in Siena, Tuscany. I imagine racing around this place in a go-kart would be a unique experience, compared to the horses that race around it :P

    This changes what GT is for me. I always felt like GT is about becoming a professional racer because you are a great street racer. You learn your skills on the streets, not because your daddy can pay for karting lessons.

    I cant say im interested, this karting looks quite boring when you can pick supercars and drive them around nurburgring.

      Totally agree. Not saying it wont be fun …. may entertain me for 10minutes, but honestly I dont think it can compare to taking an old lemanns racers down the long le sarthe straight.

      The Karts are nothing but… what, a few, perhaps five or ten extra cars? That would make no meaningful difference whatsoever.

    Great to see how the driver slams foreward when he hits the wall hard, and only a bit when he merely taps the wall.

    Since karting was only put into GT5 because this feature was just recently leaked (and as we learned today, meant for GT6), I wonder whether this will be the only karting track in GT5.

    The kart does go in reverse in one point of the video, which wouldn’t happen in real-life. But, I’m just picking now. Great addition to the game, I hope there are more tracks besides this city oval course.

      Yeah, that’s a good point. In real life you’d have to jiggle about in your seat to try and position the kart into the right direction. If your foot touches the ground during a race, you are instantly disqualified.

      The kart reversing looks real odd. Not sure how else they can do it though. :P

    wow! PD is insane!!!! I never though they will put karting in GT5!! Oh well I guess I was wrong. Great job PD, you always suprise me with this none has ever done attitude. The king of racing game is back!!

    Graphically it looks incredible. Sound? No clue. Physics of the karts looks good, but hard to tell due to inept driving.

    All in all an excellent addition to GT5.

    Cool , i have driven a little kart in Norfolk UK (the track was badly Marshalled) then i drove a big one at a more professionally set-up track which had Light boxes with red and yellow warning lights. it seems the physics are looking really good because the slightest overturn of the wheel and you spin. i want to hear the tyre squeal though. if the track editor can make kart tracks i will be very happy.

      i think i use the same engine thats in the game :D (yamaha kt 100) and we can get those engin;)es to rev early 16000 rpm

    if these karts are generic, i wish there was catastrophic damage with since there is no manufacturer to stop them from doing so

    Having driven karts for most of my life I can tell you that this is about as close to a karting simulation as walking.

    It’s a pity but I think it is incredibly difficult to simulate the unique aspects that karting has. Including a 100% lock diff (ie there is no diff, just a solid axle) and rear-only breaks which don’t behave like a hand brake when pressed.

    Sorry to put a damper on the excitement but that is the reality of the situation :-/

      My thoughts exactly. I used to run KT100s (which is what these kinda look like) and karting is something that is really tough to replicate in a racing game. But, looking at this video they look really touchy, which is what they are in real-life. (I now race an IAME Motors Parilla Leopard which is an entirely different beast, but still very touchy with the physics).

      I’m not suggesting you don’t know what you’re talking about, but it is most likely that the race in the video was driven on standard physics. What we don’t know therefore is how well simulated the physics are when set to professional. I suspect we’ll find it to be far more accurate. Though agreed it is very difficult to simulate kart physics perfectly.

    Karting… that has the potential to be so much fun. plus how brilliant is it that on the one hand you have F1 cars which is the ultimate place to be in motorsports and then you have karting which is the grass roots of motorsport. GT5 caters/does it all.

    Looks like they added skidmarks. Look at the end of the movie when he slides into the wall. On the red tarmac, it looks like skidmarks

    It’s not a big deal to me, but to answers on comments from the last posts. The skidmarks are not staying on the track during the full race.

    For the rest it looks really good, although you will not find me driving those carts often.

      I too rather have slidmarks which disappears after a few minutes than buffer overflows every time you race more than five laps.

    *** btw on ign they have announced the track editor… you cant design your own, just change sliders which affect how many corners, length of track etc

      having a 500cc bike engine in a go kart would be awesome…. or maybe take some of the 1000cc superbike engines from tourist trophy and make a monster kart >:D … but i wouldn’t count on it
