Gran Turismo 5 18MP Photomode Screenshots from E3 2010

If you’ve been closely following the news over the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen some of these images before – but not at this resolution. The detail that lies in these 5760 x 3240 shots from GT5’s “Photo Travel” mode is remarkable, and they make for great desktop wallpaper! To see some of these locations in motion, don’t miss the short video clip below.

I’m gonna have to pull a cartman and criogenicaly freeze myself for 4 months, or induce a coma that would work

sand and smoke disappears too fast !! I wonder what they think when they program seconds of smoke and sand … damn it stays for about 5 seconds in the aire … make it real polyphony !

Apart from you it seems, who gives a toss

Moan ,moan moan ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

3. Dre

Can we still take photos on track? i’ve been looking at these shots for a while and they are not my taste. the environments are kinda retarded looking.

4. nsx-sgt

I do not know what you do not like, this game is the best I had I was kazunory Yamauchi so we will not nothing here for review become.

5. Racer28

On the topic of smoke; the reason this is not better than it is, and hardly better than ps2, has to do with the fact that ps2 actually had higher memory bandwith than the ps3. The reason was that the videoram was embedded on the grapichs chip itself, that was one of ps2`s strengths! Ps2 had around 50gb/s, while the Ps3 has around 25gb/s. Its amazing that they manage 1080p @60 fps as it is!! So dont expect more smoke than already is!

1. ElieTheBear

oh yes I expect more … ! in assasin’s creed 1 .. I stayed in a place for like half an hour killing thousands of people and guards and they were’nt disappearing like that smoke !! they were alwayssss on ground .. !! never disapearing … impossible thats its a matter of technollogy””” impossible .. in 2010 .. that they cant put 4 seconds smoke and dirt in the air .. !!

2. Big Ron

Before you guys discuss about smoke, you should know, how it is created and hw it works.

I am not a specialist, but I think smoke is not handled by a physical calculation, but more a system, which knows, when to create smoke and when not.

The high processing ressource is needed in fact, that the smoke is created out of textures with alpha channel and is scaling up and down in time of appearance. and alpha channels are one of the most ressource-eating things in gaming world. if you have 16 cars on track, which create smoke at the same time, you will definitely get a frame drop, the more smoke or dirt is shown.

1. Nemesis

That’s like going to a farmer and asking why they don’t make bananas round since they make oranges round.

6. ElieTheBear

impossible ! I’m sure they can put longer smoke and sand in the air ! not a big deal … its not 2-3 seconds of more sand that will cause ps3 headache come on !

7. Tophe

@Nemesis
Trust me, smoke is one of the most proccessing requiring element since ps3 doesn’t have a physx(geforce 8 and 8+ series have them) proccessor.

You can see it by yourself on your pc: install fraps, get to a racing game and let the tyres smokin’ :), you will immediately see a frame drop.

You can see this also in arkham asyl. turn on the physx effects. If you don’t have an Gf8 or later or if you have an Ati, your framerate will drop dramaticly.

If you want realistic smoke, you can’t have it for free. You have to pay with your frames.

PD is obsessive in solid 60fps and they won’t let the smokes drop it ;)

1. Nemesis

@Tophe: You’re partially correct. The physics controller takes on the tasks of determining the calculation of what would be a realistic representation of smoke within the set physical parameters.

If you don’t have a physics controller the calculation would be handled by the CPU not the GPU. If there would be sufficient processor time available this would therefore not necessarily lead to a frame rate drop. Also keep in mind that the architecture of the PS3 differs quite a bit from a PC.

8. Geo_212

Are there any more recent racing sims for the PC? Most of them are from back in 2006 or around then.

1. Tophe

thats because it would require much processing power. It would cause slowdowns if they were too long, and imagine multiple smokes from other cars too. It would be huge framedrop.

2. Nemesis

@Tophe: That’s not necessarily true. These effects could be supported by the hardware. Which would mean all the calculations for this would only marginally effect GPU and CPU performance.

This is purely conjecture though since I have no idea what the PS3 hardware supports natively.

@ElieTheBear: I agree the dust does dissipate extremely fast. It could be that this will be better in the final build.

9. ElieTheBear

sand and smoke disappears too fast !! I wonder what they think when they program seconds of smoke and sand … damn it stays for about 5 seconds in the aire … make it real polyphony !

10. Nato_777

Best video yet! Can’t wait to drive the McLaren F1 – cockpit view should be great with the central driving position.

1. Nemesis

Dreamt of this car since it was created in 1992. The only car which I’d like to drive in cockpit view. Will probably take ages before scraping together enough Cr to buy it though.

2. ElieTheBear

or if u pre order it at gamestop online theres a stealth polyphony tuned mclaren f1 n many other but I personnaly prefer starting the game with no cars at all …

11. Geo_212

Has anyone seen if the Bugatti Veyron will be in GT5? (I know it was in GTPSP, but I’m still not sure….)

1. TragicallyHip

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s on the confirmed list. I saw a screenshot of it somewhere for GT5. I think there is a good chance that the cars from the PSP version will make it on the PS3 console.

2. Nemesis

Since you can transfer the cars from gtpsp to gt5 all gtpsp cars will have to be in gt5 for that work. Same goes for gt5p.

3. Geo_212

I’m interested in how it handles, cause in Forza 3, you can’t really tell since the physics aren’t that real. Also, I’m glad the Lamborghini Murcielago (hoping I didn’t misspell that) will be in GT5, that’s one of my favorite cars!

4. Nemesis

I’m mainly hoping for the MCLarens, Soren, koningsegg, zonda and veyron. Please excuse me if I misspelled any of them.

12. laurence

1 = 200 cars will be amazing detail with interiors

2 = 800 cars directly from GT4 in 720p (no interiors)

think of GT5 like this. the game has 200 cars. that’s it.
as a bonus they threw in all of GT4’s cars for fun.

the first new GT on a new console only has a couple hundred cars,
gran turismo 1 only had 180 and that was tons of fun. GT6 will have truck loads,
as did GT2 and GT4. it’s just the way polyphony rolls. look at history and set your mind at ease.

GT1 = 180
GT2 = 650

GT3 = 150
GT4 = 700

GT5 = 200 + dlc + 800 gt4 cars
GT6 = looking at history, 600-800+ is very possible.

yes cry we can’t have tons of premiums this time,
but it’s the way GT has been for years, I’m cool with it. any hardcore true GT fan will realise the deal :D

1. Nemesis

I think there’s an error in your math. How can they include 800 GT4 cars if GT4 only had 700.

For me the standard cars are good enough when driving it I won’t be seeing the model anyway. The physics model is what’s important. Anyway the cars don’t look that bad from what I’ve seen.

2. Rhys

Dude… Do you really think it took 200 people 5 years to make just 200 cars and copy another 800?
Do you really think Sony is going to let PS2 quality models onto their AAA+++ (probably flagship) PS3 game ?

And besides:
“Many of the cars INCLUDED in past Gran Turismo titles have been beautifully RECREATED and BROUGHT TO LIFE on Playstation 3 as “Standard cars”.”
What is with the people here that don’t think?

3. Niko

Ok,200 cars will be amazing 800 GT4 in 720p.Cool.
But,how many tracks?20 locations 70 variations……offical site.How many?20?30?40?This info military top secret?

5 years,but i no see gameplay video in GT5:Monaco,Laguna Seca,Paris etc.

Very INTERESTING!!!

4. Big Ron

What do you guys want to say with your 720? 720 is a resolution and not a quality characteristic for cars.

The quality of 3d-models is measured with its polygon number.

And if you not realised, also the standard cars from GT4 are rebuild to look better in GT5. It is not the same 3d-model from GT4, but an updated version with much more polygons and details (but not as much as premium cars)

5. BWX

@Niko

“Ok,200 cars will be amazing 800 GT4 in 720p.Cool.”

What a completely ignorant statement. Wow, just wow.

13. danielwhite74

To all those bitching about the Mercedes’ badge looking slightly jagged at a resolution of 3240p, I suggest you take a look at this.

+1 to Thatguy
“Pro tip: You don’t have to build a car/engineer computer components/make ice cream to be critical consumer of those products. It’s the most unintelligent, knee-jerk response imaginable.”

PD, or any developer, aren’t creating some kind of ‘gift for the people’ where we stand in line like bums and accept whatever is fed to us. KY and his team are on their own journey to create the great driving simulator, and make a mark on game history. They are doing it for themselves too, that is why we have the right to critique them along the way. Most of the critiquing going on is quite reasonable.

15. Tim

I am actually starting to like the look more and more of gt5 , apparently indications are that the interiors on standard cars is going to be the same as the ones in GT5 prolouge they were detailed but not super highly like we have seem in the last few day’s , i cannot wait to see if sony show any pictures of the track designer or track day mode.

16. moles40

AndyVan
Bunch of whingers…. fair dinkum what will make you guys happy??? here’s a suggestion.. why don’t you start your own company and create your own 100% perfect racing simulator! what a great idea… while your moaning about the quality of the snapshots I’ll be doing laps around the burg and loving every moment over it….

Couldn’t agree more Andy, all these moaners should be condemned to play ping-pong for the rest of their lives:)

17. Azzer10

This video reveals/confirms quite a lot, there will be 16 car racers which I think is incredible bearing in mind the detail on everything & it shows that the AI has changed and doesn’t stick to the racing line all the time.

18. HEIN

GRAN TURISMO5 IS GONNA KICK ASS ,
EXCELENT GRAPHICS ((FOR A PS3 THAT IS))
I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT

19. Fritz

I sure hope the hanger shots show the appearance when one is free roaming around the environment, a rendered PS2 photomode shot looks far better :S recall marunouchi (similar architecture to the hanger)

And strangely some supposed real time shots from a race look far better. there is very much an inconsistency across all GT5 screenshots.

What happened to those high-res shots of the classic corvette? The front of the car was pristine, far superior to the red SLS shot..

In the end we know we will have a photomode that displays what GT5 graphics are and more, it has to, just as GT4 photomode made it look better no matter what the shot.

20. TragicallyHip

Nice to see 16 cars on the track. Or was it 14? Just as long as their isn’t too much frame-rate loss, then I’m fine. :D

21. AndyVan

@thatguy: You negative dudes always bring a smile to my face… your statements are nothing more than a contradiction ;-) but hey my “unoriginal” comment obviously struck a nerve? You can continue on with your dummy spit about the quality of the backgrounds in photomode… as it is your self proclaimed ‘RIGHT’ to do so… i will just sit back, shut my ignorant mouth and enjoy the show as i have no ‘RIGHT’ to retort lol.. you;re a scream :-) Thanks for making my day!

1. ThatGuy

I am not a ‘negative dude’. In fact I don’t even have an opinion on the photo deal cuz I won’t use it. If I had to pick a “side”, I would probably be on the side of “big whoop”.

But ya, your unoriginal, ignorant comment struck a nerve because it was unoriginal and ignorant. It didn’t strike a nerve cuz of the ‘side’ you are on.

It’s weird that you would say the right to complain/criticize something you pay $$ for is “self-proclaimed”. Isn’t that right rather inherent as a consumer?

Why don’t you have a right to retort? I don’t follow. And what is so funny? I think you’re feigning amusement (eg. “whatever, buddy! lolz!!”) cuz you don’t really have a legit response.

22. CanAm1968

Here is my 2cents worth. I believe that many factors effect the overall greatness of a game. I think many of the people here are expecting absolute perfection in all areas for GT5 since it has taken so long to finally come to market. I wish that were true..but its obvious Kaz and PD decided that they have made major improvements in the GT series and many features that have yet to be announced. When GT6 comes out for the PS4…Im sure some of GT5’s shortcomings will be addressed. Rest assured…no matter what complaint you have….GT5 is going to be the BEST racing game to ever hit the console and the general public. I am counting down the days until November 2nd!

23. airjoker88

wow, lets complain about the backgrounds in photomode. They are what they are.

I thought I’m buying a racing game.

24. Pedro_CZ

Cars=ok
Surroundings=ps2=very poor graphics, especially considering it’s PHOTOMODE!The textures are really low resolution, almost psx-like(just smoothed), and the trees in ICO looked much better than this.

1. Rhys

Do you really think they are going to include textures large enough to be perfect at 3,240px × 5,406px when 99% of the time they will be viewed at 1,920 x 1,080px or less and going past at 200kph ????
THINK MAN

2. Pedro_CZ

Rhys: the textures are weak even for PAL(it looks-except the car-almost as GT4’s phototravel)!!!
Did you see Uncharted2 for example?WHY GT5’s PHOTOMODE can’t have AT LEAST texture quality like that?!

3. Rhys

The environments in car games are not going to be any where near 3rd/1st person shooter type games env’s.
That’s the way it is, the disc space and rendering time required for huge textures can be better spent on something you will actually see the other 99% of the time you aren’t in PHOTOMODE going 0kph.

At the same time I see no point at all in being able to view the environments at this resolution, it just shows up all the problems that otherwise were hidden.

And btw aren’t these areas off to the side of the tracks, as in areas that otherwise aren’t really ever seen?

4. Pedro_CZ

“The environments in car games are not going to be any where NEAR 3rd/1st person shooter type games env’s.”

->Dirt 2.

“the disc space…”

50GB of space is not enough for hires textures?Very sad excuse.

PHOTOTRAVEL surroundings quality in GT5=GT4=PD fail. That’s a fact.

5. danielwhite74

I don’t see why you’ve capitalised the word Photo Mode so accusingly. Photo Mode’s visuals are identical to gameplay graphics. Do you really think Polyphony Digital would be so sad and desperate as to revamp the entire game’s models and textures for Photo Mode, as per Turn 10?

6. Pedro_CZ

Photo MODE and PHOTO TRAVEL are different things.Like in GT4.PHM=capturing photos during race/replay.PHT=capturing photo on special locations with better quality of surroundings and cars(wheels made from polygons, instead of lowres textures).

25. VenomHitman

on the shots of the lexus on the track it shows up to 14 cars on the track. How many cars can be on the track at once. I though max would be 8 to 12 cars

26. viejaloca

I think the Mclaren will be my first supercar in the game, or the Audi R8 V10 if they have it. The cars are beautiful.

1. Geo_212

It’s been confirmed that all cars will have exterior damage. The only difference is that the “premium” cars will have interior damage.

27. Alex

Photomode is awesome, but there are some risks to be taken when showcasing this feature. No doubt that PD mastered the crafting of digital cars at its best, and as someone said above, it looks better than real life. However, I think that the environment details can’t really catch up with the cars’ details.

If you take a good look at the silver plane on the Red Bull Hangar photo, such as the air vent behind the wings, the tubes on the ceiling, and the landing gear’s reflection on the floor, you will see that those are, indeed, small details. However, when you pull it to 18MP, minor details are not so small anymore! I have no doubt that it would look sensational if they put on the same effort at a lower resolution.

The car does look perfect, but looking at the picture as a whole, it gives the impression that they’ve pasted a “real car” picture over a not so real background.

1. P37Mac

Totaly agree! Graphics are sensational and I can’t wait to get hold of GT5 but I think high resolution doesn’t work well for games in general. Putting the same effort into textures and modelling at lower res would result in something resembling a 20th century poloroid, you may not be able to pick out a bolt on the diff casing of the car your flipping, but it would easily pass as TV footage and therfore reality (regarding GT5; especially replays). Lower res would also free up space to improve other asspects of a game. I realise this is down to personal taste however and apologise if anyone thinks I’m not totaly in awe of PD and what they have acheived and given us because I assure you I am.

2. P37Mac

P.S I know my spellings shocking and also has anyone got any wind of the Honda HSV being in the game? Can’t see it in this vid… I love that car. Evil.

3. Belisario93

@P37Mac: In GT4 there was an Acura HSV Concept, which I’m sure is the same thing, so it’s probably fairly safe to assume it will be in GT5. No guarantees though.

4. P37Mac

@Belisario93: True, I forgot about that! It’s been so long lol. I just hope the Raybrig, Arta etc Super GT HSVs got in there… Like you said it’s a fairly safe bet if they included the concept in the last installment, also PD have shown a couple of ’10 GT300s so I imagine some 500s made it aswell. Cheers.

28. Geo_212

IMO, these screens look absolutely stunning! Who cares about bad textures in a game? Are going to go hating on Ocarina of Time JUST because the graphics completely stink? Expectations are WAY too high in this generation. Look at games like iRacing or GTR2, for example. The textures aren’t that great, yet no one complains about that! Even after getting a release date, you people still complain…

Just to make my point crystal-clear.

1. Belisario93

I fully agree. I’m tired of people complaining about graphics, when it at least looks good enough.

Sure, I don’t expect anyone to want to play with PS1 graphics on a PS3, but that definitely isn’t the case here.

People seriously need to wake up and realize that graphics (including eye candy like skid marks and 3D trees) are not 100% necessary. I’d much rather have realistic physics and a better overall driving experience.

2. Geo_212

The only huge graphics improvement I’m expecting is when they release GT7 on the PS4. I’m sure they’ll do us proud! :)

29. Jordan

Video updated to 720p (thanks GTK_yang), though I obviously can’t tell at the moment if this version has international restrictions in place.

1. ADR_XCLUTCH

Hey Jordan. Did you see the shout out Simraceway gave you? Go on youtube and go check out Simracingtonight’s GT5 E3 video.

30. maxpontiac

Amazing details. PD is a true master of their craft.

Jordan, you should put a MOD in these threads for posters that go off topic.

It’s rediculous.

31. terminator363

I still don’t get “photo Mode” So when I’m driving on the Nurburgring I can just choose to leave the track, the drive on the Auto Bahn with my F1 car to Ahrweiler?? Or what?

1. derStig

You can either stop a race while on the track to take a photo OR go to a certain “scene”/area, if you will, for taking photos (much like the Mercedes above in Japan).

32. RetroGiant

Seeing these 18mp images has me hoping this is the resolution we get to export at. Even at the minimum 8mp, its light years better than what forza 3 had.

33. Lacix

I hope for an option to turn off the 2D crowd. (maybe trees made from 2 planes also)
I don’t need them.

1. Geo_212

I’d be happy to be able to turn off 2D crowds, but IMO, the dual-plane trees aren’t so bad. And if we were able to turn them off, there would be a heck of a lot less scenery.

34. eludethis

The ai seems to be very good with 16 cars om track. This is gonna be THE racing game of the decade.

35. RAugie

that looks great, other than the stupid tire smoke that is generated when the cars are at their limit of grip…

i never see this in real racing…

36. KilzoneStrife

GT5 is going to be EPIC..,the only blemish being IF standard cars dont have cockpits.. ,the SLS AMG and the other supercars both euro and jap are awesome..but its the everyday cars that I would also love to drive from the cockpit.I played Prologue and GTPSP today..and,well.there are days when the non-supercar is more enjoyable.where GTPSP cockpit view in an average car fills the void that a cockpit view in a Ferrari F40 just cant fill.Kaz,great pics.just confirm the interior thing so we can all be Wholeheartadly Excited again

37. Mclogo

Very Nice – the Impreza Rally car on the Bridge and the shots afterwards near the water is In Switzerland Luzern (Lucerne). Hope there is also some kind of racetrack in the final game ;)

GT5 should be GOTY 2010 easily!

1. Niko

Probably online mode:16 cars in race,maybe offline 8 cars.OFFICAL TRACK LIST?Old tracks in GT5?Monaco!!!,Laguna Seca,Paris,Deep Forest,Hong Kong etc in GT5??HOW MANY TRACKS?

GT4=50
GT5??Only 20??
PD please offical track list!!I really hope,NOT ONLY 20 track!!Monaco need in GT5!!

1. ThatGuy

While people do whine about dumb things and obsess over trivial details… I must say that this unoriginal comment is just so useless and stupid.

Pro tip: You don’t have to build a car/engineer computer components/make ice cream to be critical consumer of those products. It’s the most unintelligent, knee-jerk response imaginable.

2. Nemesis

@MaxPontiac: If you call stating the obvious over analyzing I don’t want to know what you call an analysis.

@ThatGuy: Mate your “Pro tip” makes no sense at all. Could you elaborate?

3. ThatGuy

@Nemesis:
AndyVan is repeating the tiresome argument that a person should only be “so” critical of a product if they’re able to do it better.
It’s a completely useless statement.

4. funrun

Nemesis, how old are you and how do you feel about the evolution of video games. To me it’s just incredible feeling that i was playing SNES and Genesis yesterday, and here we are in 2010 with unbelievable res. Like kids these days are happy with nothing. We had just as much fun playing F-Zero as kids playing PS3 titles today, and guess what, we never dreamed of being critical of the graphics. I know millions of people feel the same about this but some kids these days realize how fast technology has even evolved.

5. maxpontiac

Nemesis –
People on this site complain about little things on GT5 to the point of being rediculous. You are one of them.

If the graphics in GT5 are “unnatural”, you must avoid alot of video games out there.

6. maxpontiac

Thatguy –

While I agree with you to an extent, there is a line that exists that “critical consumers” can cross.

Being critical is one thing, and being anal is another. Some of the posters here at GTPlanet fit the latter.

7. ThatGuy

@maxpontiac

For sure, I agree — some people get downright obsessive. But that is their RIGHT.

We can say “you’re crazy for caring about zooming in on a pebble in photo mode”.
But honestly, I think telling them to “Make your own game if you think PD sux!!” is even dumber… that’s all. Juvenile, thoughtless arguments just really irk me!

Critical consumers are *necessary*. Sure, some are TOO critical (altho that is certainly subjective)… but big deal!
Mock those “ridiculous” complainers all you want, but who knows how many of those complaints have actually made GT better over the years…

8. Nemesis

@ThatGuy: I agree. Thanks for clarifying.

@funrun: 28. I agree with you the pace at which technology has progressed is staggering. I remember playing the first Civ game on the commodore. Never played F-Zero though. To elaborate on the evolution of games would take far too long.

As an engineer I like to analyze the technical possibilities of something and debate the choices made. What I noted was that the car model in the Japan picture is extremely detailed however the surroundings are of a low detail and the blossoms seem to be 2D. This does not mean that I’ll have less fun playing the game.

9. Nemesis

@maxpontiac: You clearly didn’t read my post correctly.

I stated that I think that it isn’t good enough as a high res desktop picture and that it was a bit dissapointing (Since the native res of the image is extremely high).

Further more I think quality is a low prio for companies these days. Revenue is more important and most consumer are fine with that. I applaud the ones which resist. O and before you get all anal on me I do think PD is a company which does put a high value on quality.

10. maxpontiac

Nemesis –

I would actually buy the “I am an engineer” comment made in another post if it actually had practical applications involved. However, GT5 is a video game.

I have been a home designer for nearly a decade (yes, you can request an email with verification of my work if needed), and I fail to see the common thread here. Yes, I understand the point of being anal in the design/engineering field. Perhaps a definition of what type of engineer you are would be helpful in clearing up any misconceptions I have of you.

How can those pics be disappointing? What are you comparing them to? Reality? If that’s the case, go to webiste that specifically caters to real world automobiles. For a video game, GT5’s images are very impressive. To over analyze them is a shame in my book, and a complete waste of energy. Plus, they look really good as my PS3 XMB background if I do say so myself.

Since have “championed” yourself as a internet quality assurance officer, you should take your fight to a site that represents a low quality video game. GTPlanet does not, and Gran Turismo is far from low quality (even if some of the graphics are 2D).

ThatGuy

From my viewpoint, complaining on a website about “2D trees” in GT5 is just as thoughtless. My favorite? The whole “I am not going to buy GT5, but I am still posting on GTPlanet” act. That alone is the very definition of immaturity.

Yes, I understand that the internet GT communities around the web have influenced Gran Turismo to a degree. But where does the madness stop? It doesn’t. Look at how this website is for the most part. Way to much negativity. It’s shame really, for this is one of the sites I visit daily.

12. robert

ill give and OH HELL YEAH to that buddy, doesnt matter how the pics look even though are looking awesome anyways its how the game races and from the replays it totally ROCKS!!!!

13. Nemesis

@Maxpontiac: I’m a software engineer I design software for a living. See the connection? I do not know what being a home designer has to with any of this and why wouldn’t I believe that?

I’m comparing them to the technical possibilities off course. If that’s your idea of being anal so be it.

The question should be why you’re offended by a post made about a video game. You should not confuse being critical with being negative there’s a big difference. Being negative would be “These pics are terrible”.

Where did I ever state that GT5 is of a low quality. How could that even be determined of a game which hasn’t been released yet?

14. ThatGuy

@maxpontiac
“From my viewpoint, complaining on a website about “2D trees” in GT5 is just as thoughtless.”
hehe.. I’m sure you do.

But ultimately, those people are just expressing an opinion on the images… but it seems like you and a few others take those complaints *personally* for some reason, hence the silly comments like:
“Don’t buy it then”
“why don’t YOU make a better game?!”
“You’re ruining these forums with your negativity!”
“you are an embarrassment to GTPlanet” (uh, wtf??)

These are all rather ignorant things to say, IMO.

To some people, the way the images look is more important than how they look to you. Big deal.
That’s the internet, man… and when it comes to a hugely popular game like GT5, there is never going to be a concensus on how much analysis is enough, and where the “madness” begins.
You just have to accept that. It’s not the ‘over-analyzing’ that is a waste of energy, but your railing against it.

I am happy to have a photo mode again. But the more screens I see out of the photo mode, the more unimpressive they are. Some locations have bad textures and low poly models, which are not comparible with the high poly-car in any way.

Even on a full screen picture at 1680×1050, I see bad textures and models.

A bit disappointing.

1. maxpontiac

Some people are never happy. How do you enjoy gaming and life in general? Or is just another troll??

40. Me.Switch

I also get the message:
“This video contains content from IGN. It’s in your country no longer available.”

Does somebody know another link or another way to watch this video ?

Pictures are awesome. It’s going to be a very long summer…and i can’t enjoy it cause of waiting till november

1. Nemesis

Just viewed the page I get more closely and noticed an anouncement in Dutch which states that the soundtrack which is used in the movie is copywrighted and will not be played since the posters of the vid don’t have the rights for it.

Could be why it wouldn’t show at all in some countries.

2. Me.Switch

Thx Nemesis. So it’s all about Soundtrack…and of course it matters the most in germany ^^ as usual.
I feel a little incomplete since i read the comments about the vid and still can’t watch it..

3. Nemesis

You should try using a proxy located in a different country like russia.
Looked around to find a working one but couldn’t find it though. Just browse a bit there should some working ones.

41. j8mie

Have to say that I really enjoyed that video. Watching the close action racing with all those cars has reminded me just what I’m really looking forward to about GT5. Roll on November :D

42. Marcus

New information on interiors ‘The first part I checked out was a standard race with some slower cars and as the streets of LA are filled with it, I immediately went for the Ford Mustang. Laguna Seca Raceway was ideal for a cruise with the American car and for getting used to everything, all difficulty settings remained on easy. After the typical loading screen (pretty short) we arrived at the starting line. The interieur of the car looked really neat and maybe even a bit too sterile to what we’re used to. The surroundings had less detail but still appealed to me.’

The mustang is a standard car so success for us.

1. daniel

I think its referring to a standard car rather than a race car as opposed to a standard car rather than a premium car.

43. Nemesis

I’ve tried using the Japanese location as a walpaper at a 1920×1080 resolution and you can still see that the trees and rocks aren’t natural.

A bit disappointed. O well will probably never use this function anyway.

44. John Marine

Some of the replay angles make it look like more than 16 cars are out on the track at once. As for the Photo Mode tidbits, nothing short of impressive. The quality of those crazy high-resolution images is just crazy! I’m an old-fashioned guy, so I’m impressed with even just large thumbnails rather than crazy high resolution images.

Still, awesome stuff! :)

45. TokyoDrift

Seriously, what’s the point in 18MP renders when the textures in the environment look crap, and elements of the car model (look at the badge) are full of straight lines and angles where there should be smooth curves.

Sure, they look great from a distance, but there really is not enough detail in them to warrant 18MP renders.

1. CCJ

Don’t you know? Get a big image and shrink it down a little, and then it looks awesome. It’s called super-sampling :)

2. Mickle Pickle

I absolutely agree with CCJ, i cant wait for Photomode, will be spending so much time in there… gosh, this game is going to burn so much of my time!

3. TokyoDrift

No, it’s called super-pointless. The detail is completely lacking in the environment, and at close up, lacking in the cars too. PD really focused too much on the premium cars this time, rather than making all cars look great, and improving the environment. Instead, we et 800 ‘tard cars, 200 amazing cars, and a slurry of poorly textures environments to show them off in…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m buying this day one, I just don’t think it deserves all of the credit that is being thrown its way that’s all.

4. another3dartist

TokyoDrift is right, the cathedral has worse texturing then displayed by applicants _trying_ to get a job in the industry. It’s suprising PD offers this up as a photo location what was clearly modeled as a road side building.

But whatever, I’m buying this game for racing not the photomode.

5. BWX

I agree TD- the low res textures really look bad. On a high performance PC the textures could be 100 times better. I wish the PS3 had more texture memory. I don’t think it’s the fault of PD- but a hardware issue.

On a brighter note, I just reserved my limited edition copy! $99.00 at GameStop…

6. Team_MoFF-No2

TD I agree too, this wasn’t the best of ways to showing GT5, it looked kind of hmmm, is that it ? ;O) But it wasn’t a real 720, i think it was kind of up scaled, all color and details were Flat, even the billboard trees, looked more bilboard.. hehe ohh wau..
I just need the Game, because then I wont have the time to write here.. :O)

46. godroumi

Great vid’. The Ai “seems” to be more agressive and GT5, good news.

November seems so far…

47. ElieTheBear

do you think we will be able (on the main screen menu) to see our (actual) car with damage and dusk/dirt ??? or it will be always clean as brand new ?!??

1. HenGTX

I hope so, it will ad to the sim factor. And that you have to repair your car after the race. I hope so this is in the GT Life mode.

1. MSH

It’s the Nürburgring 24h track.
And it’s very cool to finally see 16 cars at once in a new replay video. Up until now, the recent clips only showed reduced fields.

48. AMG

I you see the e3 2010 trail you can see the cloud head of ky, its the rally stage it begins from 20 sec above on the right side you can see ky cloud head this is not a joke

1. Nemesis

Works fine here as well and I’m from the Netherlands.
The German text is a bit overdone though.

2. Dom

Thats what you get for being German! HaHa…as Austrian, I totally have to agree :)

This World Cup is working out like WW2 – France and Italy have forfeited, the USA turned up late, and England are left to fight the Germans!

3. prazza

see, even IGN wants england to beat germany, your mystic octopus is a joke and is wrong, also a traitor,it was born in weymouth in england :).

4. funrun

The only thing that matters here is that Germany owns the world. The World of fine Automobiles that is. Forget about the game, it’s already clear England can’t put anything together.

5. Shiro

Tady v Česku to taky funguje kámo…
Here in Czechia it works t- oh wait, we are not even in world cup this year… :(

50. RESNA86

The red SLS is amazing!

My brother says it looks better than real life!

Getting a new PS3 this weekend (last one broke) and that pic is going to be my new background.

I’m sure many others will do the same :-D

1. Kilborn230

It’s from “Photmode”, so there is going to be some Post Porcessing going on. This is what your photos should look like MarkPL.

2. THX

I think we don’t see aliasing because it have been downscaled from 1080p to 480p.
This reduce aliasing (if there is any)
It could be game real time video.
but if it is not, it should be close to this :)

1. rydeen

@maxpontic
Yea i totally agree with u i think people should stop complaining about that all the time.
