Gran Turismo 5 Gameplay Video Shows Environmental Details

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQPM2g-UsCM

With more people able to spend more time on the GamesCom show floor with the Gran Turismo 5 demo, we’re getting better and better quality videos and images of the new game.  Some of the best footage we’ve seen so far comes from EuroGamer, with this HD clip showing off the improved lighting and extensive new environmental details in the background.  Pay special attention to the trees and buildings, which really give the game a much more natual look.  Another highlight to watch for comes shortly after 2:50, when the Subaru crashes in to the tire barrier at the first turn of R246.  The stack of rubber goes bouncing and rolling in a natural, fluid way, contributing to the vibrance of the environment.  You’ll also get another peek at damage, but that’s not really the focus of this video.

While the quality is good, it’s still just a video of the TV screen – hopefully we’ll get a “direct” capture soon, but that’s entirely up to the people at the Sony booth…  Regardless, enjoy!

Just back from a heated agruement with a forza fanboy and all i have to say is that its lookin great! and all this crap about damage and AI, its just a demo!

    Flagmo-T Says:

Regarding the Environmental Details, It will be Fun to see what they have added to the stage/Track Eigar Nordwand, It’s only a tiny plastic fence that is keeping the cars from hitting the spectators :P

Hey dude that would be hilarious!!!!! lol

  2. Pedz

Hmm the AI really needs to be changed a lot.. We all know its possible to have people avoid crashes (its in GRID by Codemasters). But its something PD have never got the hang of. Graphics are superb as always but we need a massive AI update to make the game more race like.

Lets hope the full version has this update =].

  3. Jack_uk

If this is just a basic model, which it is, the main model will blow my mind!!!!! The graphics are sumblime.

  4. Deko Wolf

Was that evo “racing modified” at 35 seconds?
Now the question is, tuning company or by ralli art.
Maybe it’s the same as in GT4, with tuning companies having the “full model”

The game looks amazing, people shouldn’t expect so much from a demo that shows only a small percentage of what PD has done so far.
I’m sure that all those bugs we see will be fixed in the final game.

    Cheers from Portugal~

Another (Sad) Detail I just notice in one of the other videos from the gamecom on youtube, is that when the hands are on the wheel, they doesn’t squeeze around the wheel at all, actually it looks more like When Masa Had his accident in Hungary and was knock knock out, then his hands was just resting on the wheel.. same thing (((O_?))) HMMM

  6. Flagmo-T

@Hoodge A Sim Race Fanatic as you say you are, you seem to forget that there is some Strong PC SImrace titles that is Competing with the Console Simrace, and they have Great Ai, and these Days It looks rather Nice and detailed, SO i think you also should Bye a Decent PC, and get your hands On *Race07 GTR-Evolution* GTR2* Some would say RFactor* I will say wait for Rfactor2* Richard Burns Rally***** a 5 star Race Sim out of 5 stars (Not so Beautiful But still a master over any Rally Sim Game out there on PC or Console, Liveforspeed* well the list is long, and do not say that I’m wrong, Because I know this. I’m a true Lover of the GT series as you are, and GT5 for me is also the most interesting Game that I’ve ever have waited for, and I also do know that Damage or no Damage, it will still be the Number 1 on Consoles.. but the PC Sim Race Games Do need some respect regarding SIm Race Games.. ( No offends meant dear Hoodge )

PS. I Must say, that I’m very tired of GT5p for the moment, haven’t raced it in 3 months time, only Raced PC Sims, and Yes Earning money is possible By winning Races with Some of the Sim race Titles.. I would also call my self a Fanatic, My Wife does, But she was the one to give me a DF-GT wheel, 47″ Monitor and a Playseat Race Pro Alcantara.. so she made me a fanatic Hehe..

Yes I agree that the distribution is all in the works and has been that for some time now, But these version of the game that we see, could easily be older, and therefore could some of our complains be fixed in the release version, that we all are waiting for..

last thing, I could easily imagine, that the Viewable Damage, will not effect the driving at all, and if that’s a fact, then it’s just a sales gimmick to sale a lot more titles, Shiet that means even more idiotic driving and driving the wrong way Kidz ( Sorry kidz Not all of you of course) But I don’t know what I’ll do then, because that would really put my blood to the boil..

We can’t CanookStig, you’re just going to have to wait until TGS… or if we’re lucky, sooner.

Overdriver and John: I’m not going to judge ANYTHING until I see the final product. For all I know, this demo’s AI was just dumbed down because all this is showcasing is:

    1. Some Damage Modelling(WRC Focus doesn’t exhibit damage and it doesn’t appear mechanical damage was activated)
    2. GT5 in a drive-able form other than Prologue.
    3. The full on graphic capabilities at the new track.

I’m not making any presumptions from a DEMO of a game that’s still a few months from being released.

  8. Canadian STIG

Please can anyone confrim if there will be interior views in the other 830 cars but no interior damage or just interior and interior damage for the 170 cars??? This is REALLY bugging me!!

  9. Flagmo-T

Regarding the Environmental Details, It will be Fun to see what they have added to the stage/Track Eigar Nordwand, It’s only a tiny plastic fence that is keeping the cars from hitting the spectators :P

  10. ralph89

i don’t actually cuss people out, but here we go. What the F^%& is wrong with this idiotic comment around, this is just a F&%$ing demo to show off GT5 damage, but people complain “Only rally cars will have damage GT5 sucks!” or “This is very disappointing I’ll pick forza 3” open your F&%#ing eyes and look at the WRC Ford Focus did you saw damage to it? That’s a rally car. Sometimes all this idiotic comments lead to some Forza fanboys or whatever GT haters they are, not pointing to anyone, but that’s what I think with all this complaining over a demo. Try complaining when TGS is done, when that time comes feel free to complain on whatever you want to complain about GT5.

  11. overdriver

    @hoodge

LEAVE AMPHETAMINES ALONE. I love GT series, i’m no xbot troll, i loved and played all the games in the series, but it’s time to STOP the D!€K SUCKING. Let’s be realistic. I can accept mixed feelings about damage, i personally will surely turn it off since i like simply racing (and not crashing), because dammage would ruin the looks of the game and because I’m a reasonable person who knows that really-realistic dammage can’t be done yet (even more considering PD standars).

BUT we can’t pretend the LAME I.A. (i mean, VERY VERY WAY OUT-OF-RANGE LAME I.A.) does not represent a mayor problem. And our mate John said the truly correct words about it. And I quote:

    John Says:
    August 21st, 2009 at 1:54 am
The last few months before release usually don’t bring huge changes like a whole AI rewrite… I mean you have to get final testing and a ton of debug test time in not to mention pressing and distribution (PRESSING AND DISTRIBUTION PEOPLE) so really if they hit an xmas release they have virtually no time to make major changes. Even if they release 1q next year they are way beyond when changes like major AI upgrades should be made.

    SADLY, HE’S RIGHT.

  12. gtfan

What is with the AI in this game? the cars don’t even bother to go around the subaru, they just keep heading straight into it. If it were realistic the cars would have made an effort to go around the subaru

  13. Lee

WTF….. 2 bloomin years after this game should of been released and nearly 5 years since GT4 and we get………..

……Damage only available on SOME models
the same stupid oblivious A.I as before
    same tracks as GT4
    Still NO mention of weather
Still NO mention of day/night cycles
Still NO mention of car tuning/paint schemes
    Still NO release date………

    …….the list goes on

i’m as big a GT fan as anyone else but i am so bloody bitterly frustrated and disappointed with this whole fiasco now. i’m buying an xbox from the darkside….F*@k it

    p.s. NO porsche

  14. Mas

Only thing i want to say about damages is, if only race cars can be damaged, why the WRC focus didn’t get anything even after all the hits it takes ? hope, like a lot of people said it before, that it’s a low-damage-level setting and so only the driver’s car is damageable..

But whatever GT5 will still be the best and most beautiful racing game ever… until GT6 ^^

  15. Medno

I would like to know something from you guys. Right now I’m playing GT5P and the Ferrari F1 is in the game, but what about the other F1 cars, like BMW, Renault etc. Will they be in GT5? Because we will have some F1 races in the game, and it would be odd if one real F1 car raced against those GT Concept F1 as we know them from previous games. Thanks.

P.S. Sorry about my english, not my language.

  16. chris

why is every body complaining we finally have gt5 gameplay and all that people do is complain did anybody think that the graphics dont look as good as they should because this is being played on a tv and it is being recorded on not a very high quaility camera we will only see wat gt5 graphics will be like until we play the game or pd gives us a video of the gameplay

  17. Mustangmiha

Why is damage so very unrealistic? And same smoke effect? I’m just hoping that this is still a Beta or something…

  18. mykel easie

thanks mr. x and i kinda new they were gonna keep working on it but i was just mad about the way it luked now!!! so yeah im excited

  19. snicker3s

    @Hoodge & Snaeper

    Thanks for talking some sense.

Strange nobody complained about the lack of track side rodents attacking the drivers.

    @Me.Switch
    Whats your source?

  20. David

So the AI still crash into you without breaking heavily or swerving to avoid you, thats totally lame. Forza and even Race Driver before it had collision avoidance programmed into the AI and Gran Turismo can’t even do the simpliest of these things!

  21. Snaeper

    Damn Jack good eye!

I’m really not caring for all this talk of AI and damage from a demo. Hell, if I were Kaz, I’d intentionally dumb down stuff to get all of your expectations low until TGS, then come blaring back fists flying.

All in all, GT2 only mattered to me because I could race awesome cars. Now it’s about awesome cars, graphics, and tracks, anything else is just extra and with all the new games adding gimmicks and features to try to shamelessly lure consumers in is pitiful. You can’t TELL me FM3 went around and test drove all the engine chassis combination’s they include in their game.

I’m going to buy a slim, and buy GT5 no questions asked.

  22. Jack_uk

Guys notice on the side of the scoobie that it dosen’t say rally Japan like it did in the trailer. Does this meen we can get real WRC events and the liveries for the event changes every time?

  23. Hoodge

Thanks for the support Mr.X. You know what I think, all the complainers in here are xbot trolls or people who love nothing more than to whine. Funny I play Prologue everyday and I’ve never seen a pile up situation like what I saw in that video before. As a matter of fact I’ve seen some of the smartest AI in Prologue than what I saw in Forza 2. yes I own both machines and have supported both racers, but you’re not talking to a pad arcade racer here. I’m a full G25 wheel Sim racing fanatic and in all the years that PD have been around, they have always set the bar on racing sims. They are the mother of Realistic Sim racers, Damage or no damage.

I don’t think Kaz is about to let this masterpiece of a game slide at all, and you know what, I really don’t think damage on a regular production car is realistic anyways. You just don’t see production cars racing in a GT scenario like you do RACE CARS. So the 170 or so cars that will only take on damage will be full bore, interiors stripped, rollcaged racing cars which makes absolute sense.

Funny everybody gets so stuck on damage in a game. Forza 2, Grid, Ferrari Challenge, and Race pro was a borderline joke when it came to their damage modelling. Grid I thought actually did the better of the 4, but god, slamming into a wall and seeing you’re car go on to finish the race is a farce. And the damage on FM2, Ferrari Challenge, and Race Pro were dam UGLY to look at. Just hoods, front and rear fenders, and wing damage. YAAAH. And you’re pining about GT5’s damage? Lol’s. Damage in my opinion just ruins the photorealistic dam gorgous site of GT5’s cars. The game is hitting total photorealism and no game comes close to these graphics. No not even FM3 or any PC title on the market.

As for the AI in that video, any fool can know that all that will be tweaked just like they did the AI tweak for Prologue. Dam the cars in prologue seem like real human drivers. They even race eachother and crash themselves in professional mode, So i’m sure Kaz is not going to regress with the final game. Wait for TGS before being the judge, games got a way to go. Yup it’s not perfect yet and that video I do agree seemed kinda funny in that pileup situation, but that is a minor problem.

I really find it funny how many people cry and panic about a game and then when the final version comes out and is kick ass which I know GT5 will be, it’s like putting a soother in a baby’s mouth and the crying stops and all is well. Just be a little more patient, DON’T PANIC!! You’ll see and know in time GT5 will be the game to beat again and again as history has shown. Enough said. I rest my case..

  24. Ignasi

This video just made my day!!!!!!!!! GT5 looks amazing.

The Ford Focus is a racing car and it didnt get damaged. I think the Subaru gets only damaged because thats a demo.

  25. John

Oh and while it’s one thing to say we still have months until release, we have had YEARS to get where we are!

The last few months before release usually don’t bring huge changes like a whole AI rewrite… I mean you have to get final testing and a ton of debug test time in not to mention pressing and distribution so really if they hit an xmas release they have virtually no time to make major changes. Even if they release 1q next year they are way beyond when changes like major AI upgrades should be made. I would go so far as to say I will eat my hat if PD really does any major AI updates that make this video misrepresentative of the final product.

As for people who have imagined some crazy awesome game… how do you guys say that in one breath as if it’s stupid to expect the cream of the crop from the company that keeps promising the ultimate this and the best that and the most amazing something else… THEN turn around and assure us this will be an incredible game and will be top notch? Ummm… why can YOU expect it to be top notch when we are silly for doing so?

  26. John

Exactly RedBaron… and the worst part is there are many games out there that do a much better job at AI handling a pileup and they have been doing it for years. There is no excuse for this still being in there.

MrX care to link to the video you are talking about? I have seen some pileup videos but there is a big difference between lmp cars on a fast track vs these guys running down a long straight and making no effort to avoid a collision.

I mean even human players often have no time to react when plowing down the long back straight at lemans at 300+mph let alone the control to do anything about it if you could react. In those cases a pileup when the front car suddenly comes to an abrupt stop is actually realistic.

Now I am not saying Forza and Toca get it right everytime, but by far it’s better that what we see here. That last red car just barreling straight along at the pileup and smashing right into it screams “WE HAVE NOT WORKED HARD ON THE AI!”.

  27. RedBaron

The bouncing tyres in the corner after main straight are just marvelous. Perfect physics of them. But AI is still dumb like hell, it seems they can’t search the right path and just slam into you like in GT1. This is long time PITA of GT and it looks it will remain it.

  28. Hoong

I dont care about the damage. Most important is the driving physics, the feel and sound of each car and graphics. These had been accomplished by PD and they will improve it more in GT5. If there is something i would like to see in GT5, it would be weather changes. Imagine driving endurance race and the sky changes to night and the cars light up. Awesome.

  29. nico

some people(which seems to be many of the people on this site now) seem to be whiny man babies who put GT5 on a pedestal built out of nothing but their imaginations (seeing as PD gave next to no info) on what will be in GT5… i seriously believe that some people will be back here complaining that when they bought GT5 it didnt come with an orange aurora glowing around around it!

i for one am excited beyond belief for this game, and cant wait to fire up the ps3 and get behind the wheel and drive to my hearts content…yes thats right DRIVE! not crash or sit there putting a stupid sponge bob on the roof of a ferrari (dont get me wrong a livery editor would be cool, but its not a deal breaker by any means if its not there) GT5 is about driving, the end.

  30. forza3RULES

”if we’re gonna do damage, we want to at least do it right”-KAZ

    yeah……..

    not on your watch buddy

  31. sharif ali

too much request on DAMAGE..tiny winy..i dont understand u all westerns..& PD keep listening to ya all until they dig their own grave..too much

  32. Mr. X

I didn’t want to say this, but 99% of these comments are idiotic.

Let me quote Hoodge since you nubs obviously missed it:

You know what all you complainers in here, did you ever stop to think that they just put in the damageable car to show off some of the damage characteristics? Ever stop to think that it is still in demo stage and still being worked on with still possibly 4 months away from a holiday launch if it even launches then? And did you ever consider that maybe they have the game setup with cosmetic damage only which won’t effect the performance of the car like you can do in Forza 2?
Quit the panic mode, look at the amazing visuals that look practically like real to life. The awesome physics will be there in the end. GT5 Prologue has shown you that, and again you are still viewing a work in progress people. The game is gonna be the best sim you can buy for any platform in the end.
Ever go on youtube and view some of the demo stuff out there from E3 on Forza 3 and watch how the cars pile up on eachother and smash into eachother as well? Well they have it too. There’s a video of LMP1 cars racing at Lemans and the driver got spun around on the porsche curves buy an AI car and all the cars behind train track style pile drived into eachother at full speed.
So don’t go flying off the wagon at what you see now. AI gathering happens in a lot of racers, even Simbin ones. So hang on before coming to conclusions. This game will be over the top when all is said and done. Wait and breath people.

    READ!

  33. mykel easie

at 4:03 the Subaru didn’t even technically touch the wall! The damage is kind of a disappointment! I think they shouldn’t have done the damage at all if they weren’t gonna master damage physics. Like the side view mirrors don’t smash, crack or nothing when the Subaru hits the wall!!?? I do like the environmental improvements though and the way the cars looked. I know it is there first time putting damage into the series but I mean, come on manNNNN!!!!

  34. martin

come on guys its crap for the hype gt5 has, this car is going at least 100k and another hits it and only a slight damage to the door come on ur gotta be kidding me i just bloody hope forza 3 isnt better then this
i mean wow 10000000 cars but only 2 have damage
ps the datto 1600 better have cockpit view and damage hahaha

  35. Tenacious D

Gee… FW3 demo only has cosmetic damage and rambot A.I. ;D

Anyway, everything I read, everything I see, makes me ache for this game. The days between now and release are going to CRAWL!

  36. canieaturchikn

what i don’t get is why those cars behind the scoobie-doo just crashed into him even though they clearly saw the accident up ahead. the intial crash is unterstandable but the cars behind should’ve tried to go around it instead or slow down. I think PD still needs to address this issue.

  37. caribbean topdriver

awhhhhhhhhh just saw a video on youtube with the hyper max evo9, cant wait to get my hand on that….. oh and the AI issue, relax, prologue AI was alot better than wat we just saw, u think pd is gonna go backwards with granturismo, that can be easily rectified. going to race sum friends in prologue, we just landed 2 g25 wheels, they r the shit!!!

  38. Matt

Good comment John. Even without damage and dynamic weather, good A.I. and realistic physics will make up for it. But keep in mind we do not know what the A.I. setting was for this race.

Its always good to be critical so a company can know where they went wrong, but I’m still of the opinion that until the final product has had a go in my own hands, or until I see an official features list from the developers, I won’t write the effort off as a failure.

That said, I do hope we see paint scratches, dents, broken glass, and rain/hail. But in so hoping, I play the part of a beggar who wants to choose. I’m just glad the game is almost out. I’ll rent it and if I like it, I’ll buy it. Simple enough.

  39. John

Hmmm… maybe I am too picky but:

1: The cars look too shiny and almost like they have a plastic shell at some angles… I
thought for sure the lighting and refelctions would be better in this respect as it really puts a dent in the believability.

2: And the MUCH more important of the two… WHAT IS UP WITH THAT AI? That’s horrible!!! I seriously get the feeling this is a prettied up GT4… or even worse GT3 or GT2… I mean come on, Toca Race Driver and Forza 1 both already had AI that at least decently tried to brake and avoid a collision… I thought cars on rails that drive through you were a thing of the past in GT3, then I thought so in GT4, I was sure of it in GT5…

I am starting to fear we give PD too much credit… they seem a one trick pony: A super shiny awesome looking pokimon of racing. Every generation it gets shinier and the you can collect more cars, but where are the great imporvements in mechanics?

I mean great we got damage in some places and hopefully where it is at least it’s good, but this AI… I am sorry, if the AI is inferior to even the old TOCA race drivers (read I want to see pack racing and cars intelligent enough to dodge a pileup) then I will be sorely dissapointed.

I love shiny bumper cars as much as the next guy, but that is not what I expect to pay big bucks for (this game could sell me on a PS3 by itself along with a nice wheel)…

  40. Mike

I just love coming home from work everyday and having new GT info from Games Com. The damage doesn’t mean much to me. When you get damage what would you do? You don’t finish the race, you exit and restart. GT races are only a few laps, and you lose too much ground, and can’t get the gold, and you will have to do the race over anyway, regardless of damage or not.

Now, that being said I think repair costs would be a good thing, after being damaged, you can’t race the car again until it’s fixed and paid for. PD could even go as far to add things like ‘car insurance’ and ‘repair shops’ into the game that would make it even more like a simulation.

  41. It's Me

At 4:15 (when he has crashed against the wall) when the last car hits the blue car it goes into it. Apart from that the game looks stunning. I cannot wait.

  42. Aristedis

    @ xtaz

    GT5P < GT5 Demo GC < GT5.

    i agree…

    @ Anthony

maybe damage will only be on recent cars (only that old 1886 won’t have damage models, haha!).

    i agree

  43. Hoodge

You know what all you complainers in here, did you ever stop to think that they just put in the damageable car to show off some of the damage characteristics? Ever stop to think that it is still in demo stage and still being worked on with still possibly 4 months away from a holiday launch if it even launches then? 44. aleksandar SRB

I”m worried why just 10 car on truck !!!!! In prologue we saw 16 car in race!!! I know that on small track we have 12 car (London) but this track is wide and long so why just 10?

  45. Crispy

I’m hoping the reason the AI didn’t attempt to avoid crashing into the broadside Subaru was because maybe the AI level was set low!?!

Other than that, it’s looking pretty damn sexy.

  46. Lenny Smalls

Maybe this guy was using low damage. Any way its a damn joke. After playing GRID for a few hours and seeing this. This a damn joke.

  47. jamaicangamer

    AJ is silk-
im pretty sure dats ah specific racecar lik a hks c230t or sometin idk.

    aleksandar-
they confirmed dat only racecars will have damage :P

  48. aleksandar SRB

I think that only race car will have damage. So probable they will separate race and road car. It”s stupid to drive Mclaren F1 GTR versus F430,GT-R R35…because he is much faster than production car and have damage, so If AI hit me in race my car will be damaged and his wont
(read this I will retire from race)… and in real race you can race with road car vs race car. This is demo that is reason why car are mixed!!

  49. AJ_is_Sik

Hey around :34 look at the EVO.Is there a chance we could do visual or have a livery system in the game.

  50. jamaicangamer

dude jabofu u played it? propzz to u man fo gettin in dere.

dey had de drivin force wheels out rite?

  51. hmmm

is there a chance .. that damage settings are turned down (arcade or something).. so that new players can test the game ?

the paint scraches .. and there are dents … in other videos .. but after a big crash … so to me it looks like damage sensitivity is low

  52. mouzy

ok damage in race car makes cense, but not cosmetic damage. i start think pd r stuck in cave and don’t realise is games out there whit better damage sistem a long time ago.is this all pd been doing all this last years? i hope no, better they come whit something better than this bcouse others ll catch one day gran turismo series in my opinion.did they ever check others race games?

  53. jabofu

I played the Demo and it was amazing. Really nice feeling and better graphics than GT5 Prologue. But the thing about damage is stupid. Do it with all cars or leave it. Makes no sense.

  54. NGrignon

“- Don’t mix crashable and non-crashable cars in one race”
+1000! But I think it’s just a demo to show off the damage more than what will see in the future OR it’s really showing that only RACE CARS will have the damage modeling. The other cars are stock and doesn’t get the damages modeling.

And yes it’s about time that GT AI RECOGNIZES that there IS A HUMAN DRIVER in their race!

  55. rich_uk

Im hopeing this is an early version of gt5 and they are holding back till release, but damm!!!! it still looks good to me ! : ) i just want to play it!

  56. Kingpin

    Hey guys.

I am also a big GT fan !
I had big hopes for this game, BUT it seems that GT5 has many little but negative points …
Yes, the AI looks like it isnt improved, the damage looks bad either, only some cars with damage also s**** and some more things …

I am going to the Gamecom @ Saturday and I will try to play this Demo and give you some infos about that.

I hope the full version will be a lot better, but dont think so …

  57. Joost

First, the graphics are amazing, the best I’ve seen so far! Very well done.

But the damage is quite disappointing. The crashes are pretty rough, but only the bumper seems to come loose and the door has been smashed.

The crash with the cars for instance, at 4:15 the red car hits the blue car at a high pace, though the body work of both cars stay intact. If I’d do that in real life my car would be 50cm shorter. But in GT nothing happens…

I expected more from the damagesystem… look at games like Grid for example, there you can seriously damage your car.. I hoped GT would be on par with the Grid damage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkxrX6npGCI (except for the bugs offcourse).

Ok, the damage is not good. No fanboy support for that, but what PD could make are some small changes, that would give the game a more realistic touch.
    – Make those headlights breakable. Seriously, this is the weak spot of every car and they crush even with a 10km/h crash.
-Let the cars lose the front and rear bumper. Right now, the car seems like a tank. In reality, a crash at 60km/h will destroy the car. So at least make the cars a bit weaker. Ripping of the front and rear bumper should not be a big things…
    – Don’t mix crashable and non-crashable cars in one race

If PD would implement this, I could accept the damage system, even if it will still be not realistic.

damage does not just affect the looks of the car between 2:37 – 2:47 the car has its throttle fully down and its top speed is 155 kph more proof is how can a standard evo 10 out pace a rally car

    @ NGrignon

totally agree with first point, very well said, arcade-like cosmetic damage; hope, REALLY HOPE they polish this up, better to have no damage at all than this.

and i consider myself as an optimistic guy…

  61. Rem

Will damage be optional? If it’s only visual and only for a certain select few cars, I’d just rather not have it on. Looks silly when some cars on the track are getting beat up and others aren’t.

    2 things.

    1. the subaru got hit pretty bad yet it doesn’t look too damaged. Yes, the door is hanging, but the fenders don’t look hurt.

    2. the AI ran into the subaru as if it wasn’t even there. that’s not good.

I don’t mind damage on only a portion of cars, but it should be perfect. Also, maybe damage will only be on recent cars (only that old 1886 won’t have damage models, haha!).

  63. Duck3321

Hopefully this is still a work in progress, and will be much better when it comes out. This can’t be how the game will look i doubt it.

  64. Azzer

You still can’t look around the car with the right stick, only 1st person cam, left and right. Why??? They should show off the cars with this!!!

Astonishing graphic (like every GT title) , simulations seems to be improved as well , damage..well seems good too -considering is their first attemp- , but that AI…is still dumb as hell!Just look at the red evo VI @ 4:10…it comes out of the corner, full acceleration,no steer no brake…FULL THROTTLE IN THE ACCIDENT! Brilliant ;)

  66. NoxNoctisUmbra

amazing footage.. graphics , trees, streets, buildings, even better light is so much better over GT5P. Who ever said that GT5 will be less graphical over GT5P because GT4P was better looking over GT4? Well they are wrong!

  67. xtaz

I noticed you can now look left and right while in 3th person view.
    GT5P won’t let us do that, so it could mean GT5P < GT5 Demo GC < GT5.

  68. NGrignon

    my thoughts:

    – Damages are really a deception (they seems to be just cosmetic and arcade like – not enough damages in comparison of the violence of the crash)
    – At last a journalist who drive well!
    – Graphics are amazing, PD is really spot on the life-like visuals (Forza 3 was close but they just didn’t nailed the good global lighting)
    – Too bad PD have still trouble with flickering and aliasing.

  69. GTracerRens

The AI is worse than I expected… And what is that co-driver doing in that car? It’s not a rally. There is no co-driver needed and you don’t even hear him speak, so what’s he doing??? I think I expected too much from GT5 and the GamesCom.. :( I thought they would make things better. Maybe it’s because I only see cars from the prologue. i want to see new things.

  70. RAugie

damage is ok… just need to get it so it looks like the paint is damaged in some way

    game graphics are amazing

  71. Magister

Yeah i just noticed the engine damage when i watch it the second time, so its not only cosmetic damage =]

The environment looks amazing and the shadows inside the cockpit =]

  72. tijay

when he crashed into the wall, the car didnt actually touch it…? :S good to see the ol’ bumper car collisions are still there…

  73. Zachariah

Wow. It’s great to see that the environments are interactive, and that the cars actually react when they touch the walls. No longer will we drive pinballs! Some awesome footage coming from GamesCom, I hope we see some more surprises at TGS.
