While speaking with Jalopnik today at SEMA, Kazunori Yamauchi stopped short of providing a new release date, but was able to confirm the game discs are being stamped (produced) right now:
“The discs are being stamped as we speak.”
This means the gold master copy of the game has been delivered from Polyphony Digital, and should help calm any fears about it slipping into 2011. Thanks to Tomo for sending this in so quickly!

We already knew this. Kaz said some time ago that GT5 missed its production window by only 3 days, indicating that it had gone gold even then.
I know it dont mean s**t but amazon sent me an email saying:

This is just a rumor from 1 game site that noone’s ever heard of. Sony has said nothing official about any release date, going gold or discs being pressed, so just relax.
Im not going to get all fired up about everything until I see the game sitting on a shelf somewhere, and I sure as hell will not buy into internet rumors.

I think they are not announcing the new release date because they are embarrassed they didn´t announce it by the end of October. So they are getting into countless meetings to figure out how to:

this just in a 747 cargo plane carrying every single copy of GT5 along with the golden sample and the hard drive containing the original was in route to Australia when it disappeared off radar. it is rumored to have crashed into the barrier reef. there were no survivors. but the pilot walked away.
kazanori has stated that with the golden sample and the hard drive containing the source , was lost in the crash. he was asked when is GT5 coming out now. and he replied that he was just starting GT6 and will now focus on that. but that’s after I race around every track in the world for PR, and building a hand held version of GT6 first that no one cares about and wont sell very well but Sony have told me to do it. so expect GT5/6 in 2015

I would be surprised if SONY isn’t firing on all cylinders in an attempt to get it out and in stores by Black Friday.
That is such a huge period for retail sales here in the states, with some stores making as much as a quarter of their sales for the year in that one weekend, they know they’ll he losing money if they don’t make it.

A store in my country (Greece) says that the game may be available in November 19th but I think it will be available in December. Don’t forget that is the SEMA show in progress I don’t think that they’ll put the winner into GT6

I think they’re still kind of unsure regarding the actual release date because they missed their initial window. This probably means that they need to print the GT5 copies in smaller less specified windows in between other committed stuff.
The ad campaign officially begins this weekend in Texas!!! Joey Logano will be driving the #20 Gran Turismo 5 GameStop Toyota Camry in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race.
Go to the GT board and look for the “NASCAR in GT5” thread, the last page. On their Twitter page @JoeGibbsRacing tweeted a picture of the car while it was on the prep rack.

Clearly you don’t understand. The game is being stamped AS WE SPEAK. Meaning the game is already in MASS PRODUCTION, ie development is over.
Unless the factory blows up, nothing is going to delay this game unless PD intentionally holds back all 6M copies as a tease.

SONY website says that GT5 has a release date of 12-20-2010 when the product is highlighted in the ‘select game’ screen of their US website, but does not make any formal release declaration. Can anyone else confirm?

There are only a certain amount of Bluray factories (I don’t know if that’s the right term) available. Sony was going to use some these factories (keep in mind these are third party factories) for a certain time period. When PD missed the date by three days, they missed this specific time period for making the Blurays. Unfortunately, after this time period, the factories were busy making other games, movies, etc. So Sony had to ‘rent’ a later date (when the factories weren’t busy) to get the disks made.

Yeah, so there’s a queue in which you have to wait for your games to be produced. And when it’s your turn to get produced and your game is not ready to be printed, you’ll just have to get back to the end of the line again.
I saw someone saying that Heavy Rain had an entire month between when they went gold to when they released. I wouldn’t set your sights too near.

10 years? I would probably take 20 years just to accumulate all the knowledge, build up an organization, raise funds and recruit all of the required comptetence. THEN you can start the development process. And by the it’s 2030 and the graphics demands of the PS9 will force you to spend over another decade on development, so at best you will be able to release the game in 2040. I think the first week of December is probably a realistic release date. I’ld be very surprised to see it in November. Still, I like surprises.

Didn’t they say due to the update on PS3 it forced them to re-produce the discs a few weeks ago, swear I read that and that it typically takes 2-3 weeks to do that as its happened before. Only thing would be they probably have to make more discs then your typical game so maybe add a week or 2 to get it out on the market. I dont see why it wont be out in 2-4 weeks IMO. Really hope its not the week of Thanksgiving in the US, I will be out of state and wont be able to pick it up or anything.
So if it’s to be released on thanksgiving, you hope there will be another delay?

it will come out sometime. I heard that scientist have found new evidence that says the last date on the mayan calendar is actually the release date for gt5.
I heard some other scientist claiming that what those scientists thought was the mayan calendar, was actually just a calendar showing the month of May. Guess it’s another scientific disagreement that we will have to live with for a while…
i ordered my signature edition back in August. the waiting is killing me.
To all the naysayers, if Kaz’s word is good, then the only question is how long will the production process take, which according to several people here is somewhere between 3 and 6 weeks. Also production may have started before Kez said that, so we are looking likely for a release between the end of November and mid December.
Why would Sony deliberately hold it back? Isn’t there some kinda holiday market coming up that they will want to take full advantage of?
The only question now is one of logistics of the production process, and in fairness Kaz may not be able to set an *exact* date yet, as there may still be production and shipping factors that would make it come forward or slip back a few days.
Since this is the same guy that said ‘we can release the game at any time’ (3 years ago) I’m holding my breath till I have the actual disk in my PS3 and it actually runs.

The speculated release date (Dec 9) for Aus is looking quite realistic at this point provided the info from Kaz is accurate?? but i’m sure it didn’t go gold today! most likely a few weeks ago… They are probably a little afraid to actually give another ‘confirmed’ release date after what happened with the last one… I smell fear lol.

Heavy Rain went gold 28 Jan and was released 24 Feb. This was another big Sony title and may give some indication as to GT5 release date…4 to 5 weeks?
good to know, it gives some idea anyway. Of course 28Jan is outside of the critical holiday window. Also heavy rain has sold around a million copies to date, so while it’s a major game, GT5 will probably be produced in greater numbers.

The Sony Life on-line site said earlier about 30 November. Maybe there was some credence to that date from an official Sony site…I thought it was just the right hand not knowing what the left was doing.
In a few days Sony will have to give us a real official announcement and date…then we’ll all have reason to plan vacation (again).

I don’t think the bug testing will ever be over. There is plenty they can still fix with patches. I’m sticking with what I’ve been thinking ever since I read an article on here – release in USA on Dec. 7th.
If it is really being stamped, that is good news. I was wondering, that is not a bad deal to miss the previous date and be already in the stamping process. It might not have been easy to get it scheduled. If this is the case then Nov. 30 might be a good date or the 23rd, before black friday!

When a game goes gold, this means the development of the game is complete, and the master copy is sent to the stampers for mass production.

yea seriously. I work for a mastering (CD audio ) studio & we call them glass masters. If I didn’t know it’s called “going gold” when I’m in a related field then why should anyone be expected to?
If they just started stamping, then there are still several million copies needing to be made. I wouldn’t expect it in November. I’d say last week of November at the utmost earliest, but even that is pushing it.

Yeah everyone needs to chill. They sorted out the “production issues”, but beware of the “distribution issues”. Distribution issues are common and can cause huge delays.
So thats it then, the Discs are being stamped, which means no more tinkering around adjusting things, those machines better put in some serious overtime.

It was expected since the game missed the previous production window by only 3 days. Anyway, tranquilizing news.
Kaz has lost some weight during the “relocation” process but overall looks pretty good. Now, to the shrink wrapper!
Apparently they’ve stopped production again. The discs weren’t being stamped fast enough so now PD are going to make a new stamping machine with a very high top speed.
They are also designing the delivery vans from the ground up as well.
Expect the game in 2-3 years.

I’m not sure, but I always thought it was 2 to 3 weeks minimum from gold to shelves. Trying to remember how long it took to put Backbreaker out there when I was following the launch…
Typically 2 weeks (includes logistics). But being that this is such a major title, it could be longer.
GT5 is a different case, though. The numbers of copies required are surely a few times larger than the average release. Would be interesting to find out how long it took for another big PS3 exclusive to go from gold announcement to being on the shelves.

If the game would have been delivered to my door before I left to go vote, then most possibly yes. But since I would have to drive by my voting spot to get to GameStop and WalMart, that’s what I did.

The US is hell bent on installing ‘democracy’ throughout the world wether anyone agress with them or not, and the governments that undertake this ‘crusade’ arnt even voted in under a proper democratic process because the US simply doesnt have a REAL democracy. I think you all need to look at how much your people and country have sacrificed in the name of democracy (something I beleive in) and reasses your attitude towards what it means to have a vote. I would rather have my vote than ever play another GT game again.

When Greece was an empire (the great alexander years) there was no democracy. As you said it was an empire. Only Ancient Athens was democratic (and some other cities that followed athens’ example). Most probably they’re still trying to re-organize the logistics of shipping ~6 million discs around the globe (on the first production run). But you can assume that the release date will be between 4 and 6 weeks from now. Second week of December sounds like the most likely date.
I’m thinking the 3rd because its the GT Awards and it will be more official.

What Ibuycheap says is true. On all my PS3 games and Bluray movies, I’ve yet to see something other than “Made In Mexico”.
I’m not suggesting they’re not made in places other than Mexico, it’s just that all BluRays I’ve seen sold in the USA all say Mexico on them.
