Join an Online, GT5 Nurburgring 24-Hour Race in February 2012

Online Competitions December 4th, 2011 by Jordan

One of the most ambitious online races ever organized is currently taking shape right here in GTPlanet’s forums. It’s a 24-hour, online endurance challenge at the famed Nurburgring, complete with every possible real-world challenge, including tire wear, fuel-consumption, damage, weather, and time change.

15 teams of 3 to 4 (local) team members will compete in real-time during the event, which will be streamed live February 25-26, 2012, here on GTPlanet. The event currently has over $100 in prizes up for grabs, including GTPlanet Premium subscriptions, trophies, merchandise, and more.

As event organizer Kurt forewarns, this competition isn’t for casual fans, and will challenge participants in many unique ways compared to other online events. If you think you have what it takes and would like to join or organize a local team, head over the official forum topic and review the official rules and schedule.

Good luck to all the entrants! For the rest of you, stay tuned for more event details as February draws near.

Good luck with that. PSN & GT need to up their servers so it would be more stable. To many connection issues for that long of a race. Plus the fact of finding 60+ clean drivers.

I don’t mean to come off negative, it just I’ve got 1000′s of hours online in GT5 and good drivers are hard to find. I’ve only found a little more than a hundred drivers who treat it like it’s real, have patience, and don’t have connection issues.

I love GT5 more than any other game, it’s the poop. So please don’t think I’m a hater. Just my opinion on the subject. Good luck though, if all goes well it will be epic!!

You say no to 60+ clean drivers. Then you say you have found more than 100 on your own??? I think there are plenty of people out there and GTPlanet has the means to find them.

Oh yeah, -1 for using epic

There are four things that concern me.

    1. As much as I love the idea, I think it would have been better to start with a shorter endurance race. Maybe a 6 hour round Spa, just to get the organisers eye in, as there is always the unknown. Then try this ambitious 24hr race.

    2. We can’t trust the PSN to be that reliable for that length of time. How pissed will you be if it dies with an hour to go.

    3. How can you trust another team to only have 3 drivers?

    4. Why do we need to have FarceBook accounts???? When will people learn that most of us don’t want to use that site.

Despite all that, I really hope this event goes off without a hitch and all those involved have a wonderful time. Good luck to those who take part.

FaceBook account requirement ??? You’ve gotta be kidding me … now it sounds more like a simple FaceBook recruitment scam to me

      Thanks for voicing them!!

      1. You may be right…..but I think we’re doing the best we can. We are a crew thinking of as many details as possible. I’ve run with tunerspit.com so know about the challenges of well organized and clean online racing. Not easy, but possible.

      2. Don’t really care. Positions are noted every 10 mins and we’ll sne dout a new room for everyone and regroup like a full lap yellow flag. Rolling start after the double hairpin…should be fine.

      3. You can’t, I can’t enforce it. Truth is, most people are pretty keen on making it real and all sign up’s so far aren’t even 4 people including manager. So hey even if they are 30 people, doesn’t necessarily make them faster.

      4. Create a new account with a dedicated email address if you want. It’s for the fans and camaraderie, something usually missing in online racing.

      Hope this helps.

OK….why is almost everyone talking about that they would race the 24 hour event if it wasnt for there internet going out…seems too me if you can afford a ps3 and there games. you should be able to afford good internet….if not whats the use of playing the system….get with the program people stop being cheap!!!!!tell your moms and dads u want better internet..lol

I think many of those replies with bad internet may be from areas of the world that just don’t offer it yet. There are still areas of the U.S. that don’t have 20MB down, 10MB up speeds. I don’t think it’s a matter of being cheap, just getting the best service your area has to offer.

Another un-educated comment. I’m an adult, pay $89 per month for something like 50mb with Cox Com in Scottsdale, AZ and still get dropped from GT5 rooms. Would never join this race for that one reason…

I’m in that situation … there is only 1 provider in my area and I am paying for their premium package (highest speed etc.). The problem is simply that I am about 70 miles from the Atlanta server and as such my bandwidth is just too narrow to be confident with it. Your insinuation that because we own a PS3 and the game, that we are somehow “too cheap” to afford a good connection only points out how ignorant you are of the technology.

you realise that it’ll be the nurb 24hr layout? the one with the GP circuit attached. if you can run that in 6 minutes, when it is limited to 305BHP i will be seriously surprised. or in awe. depending on how much rubbish i think you’re talking

      recca

under 6 mins?? that’s like 30secs faster than me and i know the ring pretty damn well, hard pressed to believe you can do that without adding anymore upgrades to the car and driving it stock..

I already have a beast team of 4 of the best racers and tuners including me. We can go around the nurburgring in less than 6 seconds in the 11′ gtr race car shown in the pic ^

That’s wonderful, but can you beasts run 24 hours like that…Doubtful. It’s about consistency, not speed.

Come down to Florida. I’m setting up a team as there appears to still be room. I need one more clean driver that knows the ring well. Team_XXI.

It would have been cool to enter that, I’ve always wanted to, but no! There is pretty much no one local who plays GT5 and if there is anyone I doubt they’d be able to drive or preserve the car.

I couldn’t do anything like this but it sounds really exciting. Guess I’ll watch all the excitement from the stream then. The question is, will there be commentary during the race?
