More GT5 Cars Revealed in PlayView Demo Videos

Remember the “GT5 Car Index” we learned about a few days ago? At the time, only two small photographs of the PlayView tech demo were available, but now – thanks to good detective work by our own Marry_Me_GT – we get a much closer look that reveals more cars in the game than ever before! Check out the HD videos below and see what you can find…

i cant wait to dig through all those 1000+ cars… standard or not…

there are so many choices for online races… i really hope the e39 is in there.

  2. Gt5anticip8r

Looking at some of these comments gives me an idea: wouldn’t it be great if GT had region battles? Such as Europe vs Japan, USA vs Germany, etc.

    1. brainfade

they had those championships in GT1! they were quite good too, would have been a right challenge with GT5’s AI

  3. Gt5anticip8r

    @ Erik
So, based on your logic, the Toyota Corolla should be the only car in GT? Since that is the leading automotive nameplate. Just because Japan is the leading automotive industry in terms of raw sales, doesn’t mean they make the best cars. Or we should perhaps serve big macs instead of lobster at buffets.

  4. fred yellow

At 21 seconds of the first vid.
    Well, like 21.25 seconds lol!
At the bottom right corner, there is some sort of black car.
(same row as an antique red car and a grey Volvo…)

Someone have an idea what that car may be?

  5. brainfade

i want a richer depth of RACE cars, as we know most of the SuperGT cars will be in there, but what about the Pratt & Miller Corvettes? The recent spate of GT1 cars? We’ve had the Panoz Esperante GTLM but what about the LMP01 roadster that it was so magnificently transformed into by the likes of Mike Fuller as well as the recent GT2? GT always seems to miss out alot on the racecar side of things, in GT4 the TS010 from the Group C era made an appearance on the back cover but was never in the game, the one car that the 905 struggled to beat in 92. I’d personally love to see the last few Group C and IMSA GTP cars in the game, cars like the Jaguar XJR-14 and Sauber C291, the Nissan P35 that was never races, the Toyota Eagle mk.III and the Mazda RX-792P ?

Even some of the cars that didn’t do well people would want to drive in the game such as the acrobatic Mercedes CLR or the seeming cursed Dome s102.

    1. Mutimy

I love the Super GT cars but I also love the LMs and The LMPs and the IMSA GTPs. Every car you have listed is insane and should definitely have priority over little Suzuki`s and trucks.

In every GT game I collect every race car a bunch of super cars and only a hand full of cars that don`t fall into them categories. I only buy the trucks and the little slow cars to race there event then when I`m done I sell it.

    2. Mutimy

The Allard J2X Group C Race car is cool looking also and would probably be one of the first cars like it i would buy in the game if it showed up

    3. Gt5anticip8r

I’d like to see some Group B rally cars, especially since the rallying will be so much more realistic – imagine having some 550bhp Lancia S4’s and Audi Quattro’s!

    4. brainfade

@Mutimy believe it or not, but SuperGT may cross-merge with DTM and Grand-Am to form a global formulae, but im completely with you on the fact that they should have priority, but GT has a ‘duty’ to include all forms of car whether they’re bad or useful, they add something to the game (believe it or not). As for the Allard J2X, that is a superb car, it produced too much downforce for its engine! Lets hope that if it is in the game they give us a better engine ;) there was also the Aston-Martin AMR1, March 92S and the fast but unreliable WR’s. Im hoping theres a proper aerodynamics working in the game, losing grip behind other cars ect.

  6. Liger

The video is actually showing 30 columns by 30 rows, totaling 900 cars. I am guessing that this is the complete list of cars that you can purchase during regular play. The other 100+ missing cars will probably be the prize and special event cars.

    1. Bernd

Agreed. Remember the mysterious “Black Cars” in GT4. If GT6 includes something similar, they won’t show it here

  7. SVT Cobra GT

Seeing as though there is a lot of cars being brought over from GT4 I hope to see:

    DeLorean S2 ’04
    SVT Cobra ’00 (obviously)
    SVT Lightning ’03
    GT40 Race Car ’69
    Audi Quattro ’80
    Vectors from GT2
    A Diablo of some sort
A couple of Ferraris from the 70/80s
A few more Aston Martins than before

    1. Mutimy

I hope the 69 Golf GT40 makes it in again along with the Chaparral 2D and 2J race cars and other race cars from that era to race along side the Ford Mark IV, Ferrari P4 and the Jaguar XJ13….Im really hoping for a `60-`70 Le Mans race car event on the old Le Mans course.

And I am also hoping for the Vectors along with the Venturi 600 LM from GT2 and a Aston Martin DBR9 to show up.

  8. Physalis

Did anyone else notice at the 0:04 mark, in the 1st video, that the ‘Mine’s Lancer Evolution IV’ is actually a ‘Mine’s BNR34 Skyline’?

They show the same car twice, but with different names… haha.

    1. Erik

It’s probably due to the computer programmer who made this Play View demo just reading the first part of the image file “Mine’s_BNR.jpg” thinking it was “Mine’s_Lancer.jpg” and accidently linked the same image twice.

  9. Hawkmoon

Looks like a good garage system, just a quick though regarding standard and prem cars, any car not yet seen in GT should be a prem in GT5 and most of the cars already seen in GT will with a few exceptions be standard.

    1. Mkwone

Am i right in thinking that 2 seconds into the first video as the video zooms into the Mines we see a glimpse of the original mini? You’ve got the new style BMW mini below then what to me looks like a red classic mini beneath that. I hope so.

  10. tingri

R5 maxi turbo is definitely a premium car, look it has wipers and the the roll bars are clearly visible, especially if we compare it to the Megane above, with its complete black windows.

  11. Pie 'n' Peas

Is this PlayView Tech demo going to be part of the game as a means to see everything at once, or is this a separate show-off piece?

    1. MrDave079

I think is just to show GT5 cars… But would be awesome to have this tool with the game… For us could search a car between 999 lol

  12. Sean S

2nd vid @1sec, to the left of the Delorean(?) and above the Daihatsu OFC-1(?). WTF is that?!? A Suzuki Might Boy trayback?

  13. Zenith

I just don’t get it. How can PD afford to change 3 panels and play with some HP numbers to give us 15 different versions of Nissan Skylines from a single year but they can’t do the same to other cars such as, I dunno 3 series BMWs?

    1. JTninja

Because its PD, they tend to focus more on Japanese autos (the NSX is always a bit too competative than it really is) because thats where they live. Theres always countless numbers of Skylines, but maybe a 335i. What of the 318is, or the 325?

    2. Zenith

Yes they live in Japan, but the game doesn’t.

PD should be fully aware by now that they are the premier racing game around the world. It’s fine for a small company to sell to a specific region with the myriad of Japanese oriented tuner games out there, but when GT is selling 3 times more copies in the US alone than in Japan (or I misread VGCharts), something needs to be done about this ridiculous car balance.

As we all know GT has also created international driving competitions with international stars such as Sabine Schmitz and worked with international brands such as Red Bull and Citroen, I’d expect them to back away from the GTR by now and focus on something else

    3. Gt5anticip8r

Yeah, they really need to start to opening their eyes to the western world, where not everybody worships every Nissan and Mitsubishi.

    4. Erik

Breaking news: The Japanese automotive industry is the leading in the world. Add to that fact that we are speaking of a game that is developed in Japan. Of course there is going to be a lot of Japanese cars in the game. It’s just the same phenomenon that makes every war game in the world having USA as the good guys and Russia/China/North Korea/ANamelessCountryInAfrica as the bad guys. Welcome to the wonderful world of cultural imperialism, how does it feel to not be on the winning side for once?

    5. Gt5anticip8r

      @ Erik
So, based on your logic, the
      Toyota Corolla should be the
only car in GT? Since that is the
      leading automotive nameplate.
Just because Japan is the leading
      automotive industry in terms of
raw sales, doesn ’t mean they
make the best cars. Or we
      should perhaps serve big macs
      instead of lobster at buffets.

  14. IVKillerVI

I’m not even going to analyze the videos. All i know about the cars is what Ive read in these comments.
From now on I will not visit this site until GT5 is in my PS3.
I don’t want the same thing happening here that happened to me with FM3. I followed that game like it was the only one of its kind in the world and built my expectations up way too high.
Seriously, though, I cant wait for this game.

    1. Bernd

Big difference is , GT5 has already surpassed our highest expectations by now (except tinted windows, which are not PS3-worthy imo). I think, PD kept tons of surprises that won’t be revealed until Nov2

    1. DarthTurismo

      Slight exaggeration…. i only count 897 skylines :-p

Guess you wont be spending your hard earned dollars on GT5 then huh?

  15. DarthTurismo

I know some of u will laugh… but i caught sight of the 1985-89 celica GT4 (ST165) I had one of those back in the 90s… awesome road car… and the beginning of Toyota’s improved ability to make drivers cars and not just mass produced corollas! i know it’s not premium but i’m happy to see it in the game non the less :-)

    1. Gt5anticip8r

If you look at Toyota’s current bland-mobile range, it’s hard to believe that they once made stuff like the Twin Turbo Supra of the 90’s and early 00’s

    2. DarthTurismo

Truer words have not been spoken!!!! and funily enough that is my current car…. I upgraded from the GT4 7 years ago and am still to get sick of the Supra! It’s one hell of an enjoyable car to drive…. and bullet proof.. not one single mechanical problem in seven years of ownership and still running on the original clutch ;-) and what did toyota do? killed it… and went back to mass produced buzz boxes… hmm well they have attempted to re-live the dream with the Lexus LFA… but 400Gs for a Lexus/toyota???!? hahaha..

  16. Omamder5

I want to watch the videos, and at the same time, I don’t. I hate it when I ruin surprises for myself because of my curiosity. Not this time. I’m not looking through the cars until I scroll through them while playing the game. Certainly excited, though.

    1. TTownEP

You won’t get too many spoilers, unless you super-analyze it. The guys operating the controller only zooms in on a few of them. Just don’t click it up to 720p and you won’t be able to see the details ;P

  17. lee

at 39 seconds i can make out a panoz esperante race car, zonda r and what looks like a black racing spyker c8, but good be just a road going version.

    1. ismellbacon611

im going to say your wrong … only because the cars are in alphabetical order… the car which i believe to be a Bugatti both looks like a Veyron and is in the “B” section right after Audi and BMW

    2. Pie 'n' Peas

I just watched that in 720p and it didn’t look like a Veyron to me… Still, I’m sure it is in the game, but as Standard or Premium?!

    3. MrDave079

@Pie ‘n’ Peas The Veyron MUST be a premium car!! It the only chance I have to get inside and drive a Veyron hahaha

    4. Erik

Looks like Audi to me. But on the other hand there’s a reason why my nickname isn’t “eagle-eye”… I’m also pretty sure that Bugatti will be premium in the game, because it’s the first appearance in the series.

  18. - SZRT Ice -

I seen a Vector, 2 R8 LM Race Car’s, The R390 race car from GT2 & GT3, The R34 Pace Cars (With and without lights on the roof), A Dodge Ram (I think), A Chevelle, The S2000 GT Race Car (with GT Livery) from GT4, and like 6 variations of the Ford GT/ GT40, A Mazda Furai ::New:: (A DLC car in GRID), The new Skyline R35 GTR (twice, one silver, one black), eh… There really are alot of Skylines… XD

A few more noteworthy cars, but I’m done with it…

    1. - SZRT Ice -

In video 2 (before it expands) the 3rd column loks to be Ford GT’s (Atleast to me) and once it expands (but before he scrolls left), there seems to be more Gt’s above & below. I’m on an HD TV screen and zoomed in at max. But it could still be something similar in shape. So I could be wrong.

    2. JTninja

2 GT3 Audi R8 race cars, 2 LMP Audi R8 race cars, and the audi R10 lmp. Also saw a street version of the Panoz Esperante GTLM, and 3 Pescarola LMPs (2 in GT4, plus another). I might have spied multiple Corvette race cars, at least C5R, possibly (or hopefully) a couple C6R examples. I think theres 3 or 4 Ford GTs, :01 into the 2nd video, middle column.

  19. Sum1s2pid

Hopefully we’ll have enough garage space to where I can collect every Honda-based car in every color. Again.

    MP4/4 clone, please!

    1. - SZRT Ice -

You can paint your cars now… Less need for repeats. Although I concur, certain cars must be available in many colors on demand. I guess GT has formatted my car habits. Lol

    2. Bernd

Why do you even expect garage-space to be a problem? My GT4-garage is stuffed with more than 800 cars, so I’m expecting that for GT5 too :-D

    3. Sum1s2pid

Garage space was an issue for me in GT4.

I had one memory card with the original game save (full garage), another with nothing but every Honda in the game (700+ variations), a third with 200-some-odd moderately-tuned favorite cars that I keep adding to, and a fourth with an empty garage and a hefty amount of credits (just in case).

Unless GT5 offers us different game profiles to use, garage space may or may not be an issue for me.

It’s like Pokemon. With cars. Prepare for trouble.

    4. Erik

My guess is that garage space will be infinite. As long as you have enough free memory on your PS3… which will probably never be an issue. I mean, if the entire installation will require 10GB, how much can a garage with all the cars be? There will be plenty of space… I hope.

    5. SZRT Ice

1,000+ Cars?, a 10,000 Car garage should do justice. Ok, maybe more like 5,000. But 10G would do the trick…

  20. MrDave079

I just wanna see these cars:
    1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport ’10
    2. Mercedes Benz Sauber C9 ’89
    3. Mazda 787b ’91
    4. Toyota Minolta 88C-V ’89
    5. Toyota GT-One ’98

    1. Mutimy

well the Mazda 787B has been seen in a few videos and there is a “stealth” version so its safe to say thats in.

Im almost positive i seen the Minolta in a standard car video a while back.

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

I second that, Veyron Super Sport ESPECIALLY!!!! plus Chrysler ME412, Koenigsegg CCX, CCXR, & CCGT, Zenvo ST1, & the SSC to see if it’s shotty build quality is visible through the rear view mirror of the Veyron SS lol

    3. HugoStiglitz_420

agreed even though I never got to drive the TS020 road car but if it’s anything like how the nissan R390 GT1 road car drives compared to it’s racing counterpart, I’m sure I’d love it too. I hope they make the Tommy Kaira ZZII a premium but I seriously doubt it. go figure, a hippie bus, a random isuzu, a lil fiat, and a cervo are premium cars yet the jaguar xj220, lamborghini countach and tommykaira ZZII are standard.

    1. Red_9

yeah; if they’re gonna have regulation NASCAR racing, they need 43 cars for the full racing field. So far in all the NASCAR gameplay videos I’ve only seen 8 cars.

    2. Themadcat001

I’m pretty sure nearly all of them have been shown in screenshots, and I don’t think there will be more than 1 type. if you’re wanting the older ones from the 80s and 90s it’s doubtful. nearly all of the nascars have been shown in screenshots.

    3. HugoStiglitz_420

boo hoo. All that needs to be different is liveries & knowing how retarded PD has been when it comes to what gets to be a premium car, each of the confirmed 15 probably will each count as 1 of the mere 200, so you don’t you dare complain that there isn’t enough. 15 out of 200 is WAY too much, especially considering that driving NASCARS in GT5 is a novelty at best to 90% of gran turismos fan base. I can’t wait to drive them either but not at expense of the many supercars that have been skipped. I guess I would be excited if I was a fan too but in reality, it’s just liveries, it’s not like a ford fusion NASCAR is going to be totally different than another ford fusion NASCAR

    4. Mutimy

There is 11 Nascars, 12 including the Gamestop Nascar. I think there will end up being 16 to 20 nascars ( to complete a race line up )

I dont think there will be all 43 (at least in the same race) considering there can only be 16 to a race, with the MAYBE possibility of 32 player to an online race but I think that will be more like 16 racing and 16 spectating

    5. NBH

All the NASCAR cars are basically the same but with different liveries so I’m really hoping that PD can increase the amount of cars in the races above 16 just for those events but somehow I think that’s wishful thinking.

    6. Gt5anticip8r

Not so sure about that – I’d rather have a few more premiums than NASCAR. Would still be nice to have NASCAR as standard cars though, although I doubt the licensing bods would allow that.

    1. Erik

If there will be DLC (or some sort of updates, like in GT5p) maybe they could add cockpit view to a few, but absolutely not to all 800. The cromeline cars could come with the game itself, only you need the code to unlock them or something. Just because they will be available doesn’t mean that there will be a DLC feature to the game similar to what for instance Forza is having. And especially if they are meant to be exclusive that would suggest that they could not be bought and downloaded by any player in such a manner. Speculations only, but point is that chromeline doesn’t guarantee DLC.

  21. Themadcat001

2nd row down, 4th over, there’s a dodge ram pickup,

I was wondering if they were going to put trucks back in, since they had what… I think it was 4 or 5 trucks in GT4, (all tho a wierd touch, thats what Kazunori loves to do and why nearly all of us love the game) I myself would love to see thing like typhoons and syclones as well, that’s an amazing car list, and even tho that picture of the 240 looks very simple, I’ve noticed even the premium cars that were listed don’t look as good in that demo, that may just be cut down in quality to make the searching faster.

    1. Themadcat001

That looks to be a vector in the second video at 1 second in first row (that’s viewable) and 2 over. Wow, if they have vectors in here Kazunori really did go above and beyond, he already did with half of the VW stuff that was already previewed in GT5.

    1. EiFFeL

That’s what I mean… Where’s Renault Megane R26? Audi RS4? Golf VI GTI? VW Scirocco…? There are lots of recent cars missing, we have only the ones from GT5 Prologue…

    2. VeyronGlen

Thats one of the cars i’m hoping for in the game. The 2006 Audi RS4 B7. The B5 was in GT4, but the B7 is so much better! Plus, it’s my dad’s car so i would love to drive that round the Top Gear Test Track in the cockpit view! :D

    3. NicoGmbh

      Enciah,

      I’m agree, Megane 2.0 16 v, wtf!!! They missed : R5GTurbo, Clio Williams, Megane II RS…

And i want one Pagani Zonda Cinque…

    4. VeyronGlen

Yes he does, it’s great, slightly tuned aswell. I’m hoping to make it exactly the way it is in real life on the game! If they have it… :D

  22. EiFFeL

Mmm i’ts not a close look but I am a bit disappointed, too many cars from GT4… I don’t want to play “GT4 with better graphics”. I want to see lots of cars from the last 5 years, such as Mercedes C63 AMG that haven’t been seen yet.

I think it would be a great fail if there are LOTS of cars from before 2005 and only a few (the Prologue ones) since 2006…

    1. Cachaito

Don’t worry it will be better than gt4 and with lots of new cars, besides gt4 is a classic game and I still love it…(only 20.1% done with gt4). Truly, gt4 with better graphics would still be awesome and you know it will far exceed that comparison.

    2. - SZRT Ice -

On the back of my GT4 case it reads “Over 650…” Cars on the back of my Prologue case it reads “Over 60 ultra-realistic cars…” Added together that’s “Over 710” cars from past GT’s wich leaves room for “Over 300 New” cars in GT5. Do you think “300” is a small number? Some racing games don’t have over 50 dude. GT embodies all car lovers from the past to the present. I’m happy to get my GTO Twin Turbo’s (3000GT), RX7’s, Miura’s, 787b’s, ZZII’s, XJ220’s, DB9’s, and over 700 cars from past GT. In an online community that will be humongous, and with people who have custom setups on strret cars that beat out exotics, it will bring a ton of variety. Not everything released in the last 5 years has been so phenominal. Alot of the times, classics are better. But fret not, your 2005’s – 2011’s should be able to fit within’ the “300+” cars that aren’t from the previous GT’s.

    3. EiFFeL

      Jordan, it’s fine the GT4 cars are in GT5. It they weren’t I’d be missing Renault 5 Turbo, Mercedes 190E 2.5 16, etc…

But I have already played GT4 hundreds of hours, and if you make me choose, I prefer new cars.

    4. Mutimy

The Aston Martin DB9s have been in a few of the GT games but they are yet to have the DBR9 race car and I have a feeling they wont be in GT5 either….Sucks i really like this car alot but for some reason GT doesnt have it but forza and shift both do, and GT already has a connection with Aston Martin? dont make sense.

Hopefully im wrong and they will show up

    5. Sigmaviper11

Gran Turismo is supposed to span the century or more of automotive history. GT4 tried to do that, and while it did do quite well, still fell short. GT5 will probably attempt to significantly raise that bar. So both for production purposes and the principal of the game, get used to seeing updated recycled cars, because there’s going to be a lot of them.

    6. SVT Cobra GT

      @EiFFel
I’m with you on that one! There just seems far too many old cars for a ‘new’ game. Don’t get me wrong it’ll be great to see some of the great cars from GT4 in HD. I’d rather see more of a variety of cars from older GTs. i.e the Vectors and Venturis from GT2!

      @SZRT
You’re right, 250-300 is a nice round number for 2006/10 cars to be added, but we’ve already seen a vast majority of them and I can already think of 100+ that we haven’t seen! Koenigsegg CCX, Shelby GT500, TVR Sagaris to name a few. I’ll happily bet that the 3 cars my family owns won’t be in GT5. (Mustang Cobra ’03/Vectra VXR ’08/Capri 2.0S ’83)

Kaz has always said he wants to put more into GT games and this time around I can’t help feeling he hasn’t done so! He could have scrapped 400 cars from GT4 and brought back cars from GT1/2/3/Concept etc. Or he could have introduced cars into the series that aren’t between 2006/10 like he’s done with the VW army vehicles, but he could have added cars we haven’t seen in GT before, for example the 80s Trans Ams/Firebirds, Ford Capris/Escorts/Sierras/Cortinas etc and even some classic Ferraris and Lambos!

I know the final game isn’t going to be finished half hearted and is going to look amazing so it’ll probably get rid of my worries!

    7. Erik

But if they already have a lot of cars from the previous games and they can make them go in GT5 too, why would they not do it? About newer cars (premium cars), they take an awful lot of time to create, 6 months per car he (Kaz) said in an interview, so of course they are going to be fewer than the rest. And about “GT4 with better graphics”, this isn’t going to be the case. You will have a lot of cars from GT4, but everything will be changed, not only graphics but also physics and gameplay.

  23. jimmywizz

well there is 2 versions of the R8 in there. they wern’t in GT4 were they? I know there’s one in GT5p. so that would suggest some of these are premium models, no?

  24. Thor

based on the column x row = 899 I am guessing these are all of the “standard” cars in the game. we all know basically what they are going to be anyway. all of the “surprise” cars will be premium and PD is not going to let that list leak like this.

  25. Sigmaviper11

I remember PD saying they were trying to make a car encyclopedia in the game that had the history of most of the cars. Perhaps a system similar to this is how they will implement it? Or they might just go back to the way GT2 did it. Just a thought.

    1. Honda-Crz

UPDATE: I just realised that I can see that Pagani Zonda R in there aswell. Maybe these are all the cars in the game.

    2. Mutimy

I dont think the 787B is standard just for the simple fact that the “stealth” 787B pre-order car is a premium…It would make no sense to make the normal one standard.

    3. viejaloca

I loved the 787B in GT4, it was really fast and know that it’s premium (judging from Mutimy’s comment), it’ll be better!!!

  26. LordVonPS3

After some close study I can confirm…
31 rows x 29 columns = 899 cars on show in these videos.

By the way it suddenly stopped, it appears as though the vertical scroll limit was reached, but horizontally there might be more columns…

Yes, and we all know, there are always many hidden cars in GT, which you can’t buy, only win. I think, these weren’t shown here

Or this is only standard cars?
Maybe they have standard and premium separate.
Didn’t watch the whole video, so I could be wrong.

The number of standard cars in GT5 can’t be higher than GT4’s.

Also consider that several of GT4’s cars have been remade for GT5 as premiums.

Come on! Let me dream >_< Unlike the other cars, the R5 does not have the windows fully tinted, it can be seen something inside the car.

ahaha, ok, you are right U_U

I agree too. I’d better not watch the full carlist. There has to be a surprising effect when receiving the game.

i read a car list four years ago and it had 5 of the 56 cars on the list i wanted badly. thats all i needed.

Shelby 426 1965, I originally thought you might be mistaken. I googled the evo, and it looks fairly similar to a skyline. Handy that the next car he showed was the same car showed in the pic of the Mine’s EVO. It really is the wrong car.

This is just a tech demo, so I don’t think this bug/error/fault will make it to the actual game. That is pretty funny though.

      @ Mutiny:

Really? I’ve always felth there were some vague similarities between Evo’s and Skylines, down to how even the newer models have this gray strip across the grill and how the older models have a “boxy” design in place of curves, and they’re both 4WD. Yeah, they’re completly different in many ways, but they have their similarities. There’s even a “Mine’s Lancer” as there is a “Mine’s Skyline” (Same Paint Scheme).
