Mysterious New GT5 Demo Screenshots Revealed

NeoGaf’s lherre apparently has access to a special GT5 demo, and he’s just shared a few pictures with the rest of the world. From what we can see, this demo is a compilation of sorts – a collection of all the game builds we’ve seen at automotive and gaming shows over the past few months. Of course, there’s a chance these images are nothing more than a hoax – I’ll leave that up for you to decide.

Regardless, one thing is for sure: if it is legitimate, don’t expect this demo to ever be released to the public. I’ll let you know if we find out more…

it’s a built test demo for sure. Everything fits

@ StogyBear. No the sky is not coming true the ground. Nordschleife looks like this. It’s an image of the nurburgring GP track you can see while racing around the big ring. And yes it looks as blue as the sky inthere in real life too…

    Sigh.

Bunch of wankers actually… If we would have one or 2 real programmers or modelers on this board who post regarely so you guys would blindly believe them, they maybe could explain to you guys alot of gamedevelopers (so the guys from that studio also in their own home) have amazing differences in PS3’s then us…

Accept that smbd has this demo (prob on purpose) maybe even just because he’s a sony staff and the son likes GT so much they gave him a comp demo from what has been produced to the media… Think logically, instead of retarted… Everything is so clear when you use logic.

But here on GTplanet, it use to was here, and it will return once GT5 has been made. But hold on to yr hats when GT6 will be announced… Because then this whole place will get retarded again, and again…

  2. shwtt

What a joke , the demo is just in a rumor stage, my goodness for six years and we are just talking about a rumor of demo. Wow!

  3. David

Seriously, just check out page 38 of the thread and you will see it is really a demo and in his house. Not in a museum.

  4. Deko Wolf

also (and I’m sorry for posting again)

the “game” running on the background, it’s actually running, could be a video.
As you can see the time counting, you notices the seconds fading while counting.
the sense of speed on the objects in the track.

    This could be a video.

and as I remember, the demo with the SLS in the ring, had a total time and 2 laps.
The shot shows 1/2 laps, and took him 1 minute something to get there.

I don’t want to drag this any longer, as I don’t really care if it’s fake or not, all I want (and like every one else) is the game.
But there’s just so much to look at.

Another theory could also be…this is the demo in the Mercedes museum…
and some guy just remembered to pressed the PS button?
I never went to these shows where GT5 demos where, those who went, did you ever pressed the PS button while playing? If so, could you access the XMB?

  5. Deko Wolf

I’ve took a picture with my camera to my TV.
GT HD is running, and I’ve pressed the PS button.

    http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/5126/dscf0146ea.jpg

As you can see, you can still see all the other icons of games, trophies, quit game, etc…

It’s not a background because the rest of the icons don’t show up, such as videos (even with no video file, there’s still at least on icon there).
The network (internet, remote play, etc…)
    and PSN (Home, Store, etc…)

While your on your XMB with not game running, you are able to see this icons.
on a XMB with the PS button pressed, those icons only show up when you select them.

Fake or not, that XMB is very, very different’ from any public PS3 on the market.

  6. squishydk

Actually it looks clearly as wallpaper (IRL not on a screen) and a nintendo wii besides hes screen, just saying…

  7. Ekans

i truly believe this is just a demo from a gaming station that is OLD for the press that we have seen before. AGAIN this seems to be NOTHING more than what could be someone that pressed the “PS” button like at TGS or some other showing of GT. NOTHING NEW HERE, JUST GRAVE DIGGING A PRESS DEMO -__-

  8. Reece22345

I’m more suspicious about what he posted. Why would he say “don’t ask for more SS, even though I have them I dont think it would be legal”?

Then why release two anyway? I’m pretty sure if the rest aret legal then these two aren’t.

And irrespective of this, if there is some form of NDA going on, most companies expressly state that no footage or pictures etc are to be taken anyway, even if they aren’t distributed. So you’ve technically already done something wrong (or the person who got you the pics).

And I don’t believe him anyway. It seems he just came in to the discussion to add his little bit of fuel to the fire, by saying he has more photos but it’s not “legal”. Sounds like someone enjoys the spotlight too much.

  9. squishydk

Before you bash this demo further, try go to the original site and check the forum post. theres some nice screenis there aswell, and it seems like its def trustworthy.

It doesnt change anything though, as we wont get the demo either way. So basicly theres no point in discussing if its fake or not. Ofc PD will have planty of demos out there, just like every other game have BETA versions. But as long as we dont get to play/test it, what diefference does it make ;)

  10. daniel

maybe they could include these multiple demos on the gt5 collectors edition, sort of a these were the builds we released during the development of gt5. I would play them once or twice to check them out.

  11. Alan D.

It looks kinda fake. I think it’s supposed to look like the background that pops up when you highlight some demos, but that is just a screenshot set as a background.

  12. StogyBear

Anyone else notice the bug in this pic? If you look at the background the sky shows through the ground lol.

  13. FishforRent

Look further through the link to the forum this was taken from. He has pics of SLS damage (slight damage). It’s real. Probably a special debug PS3 that few have.

  14. tyl0r_r

jesus tapdancing monkey god, people… look:

“I say fake, because the screen shot of the car is F#%ING ugly like it’s all stretched out incorrectly. I’m sure if PD were to release a Nurb Demo, it would look a lot better than that for the BG screenshot”

“taking away the proximity of the shot, it doesn’t look as nice…. Well let it slide this time with the excuse of an old demo….but if it is like one of the guys said up top….” If that demo IS from 2010, PD has a LOT of work to do”

THIS SCREENSHOT IS NOT A SCREEN CAPTURE. IT MAY BE FROM A STANDARD DEF OR SOME OTHER NON FULL HD DISPLAY. HD GRAPHICS ON SUCH A DISPLAY WON’T LOOK AWESOME. THIS SCREENSHOT, EVEN IF LEGITIMATE, IS NOT A TRUE INDICATION OF GT5 GRAPHIC QUALITY.

  15. YupThisJustHappened

PD showing us all those nifty screens, and then very next day we get a ” recent(2010)” demo pic and, taking away the proximity of the shot, it doesn’t look as nice…. Well let it slide this time with the excuse of an old demo….but if it is like one of the guys said up top….” If that demo IS from 2010, PD has a LOT of work to do

  16. blackjack

it could be real, but what difference would that really mean to the GT fans anyway? For sure, having this “DLC” would be great as we could all experience the same selection of demo’s that have been made available worldwide, but I think BPA94 summarized it greatly with the following “Truth is, there’s a million reasons for and against the reality of this. Either way, I want the game, not another demo, I remember watching videos of GT5 on my psm2 discs, excpecting to be taking it home with my ps3 on launch night.”

  17. Dracwolley

Okay, there are two things I’ve noticed.
    1. people are saying it’s a fake because of the background, and the HUD in it.

I say it’s an ingame XMB.

    2. people are saying that there should be a quit game icon instead of gt demo 2010

The quit game icon is above the game icon. it’s totally different. it would also be above and off of the screen, which it is.

in my opinion, this looks legitimate, but not released to this guy at neogaf. it looks like it would be a screenshot from inside PD.

  18. RedSuinit

@deko The picture was taken so close to the screen that you wouldn’t be able to see it anyways, there is a rather large gap between the XMB game icon and any other icons above it.

  19. PaTrond

I’ll translate a bit of it as I don’t know too many kanjis yet. I’m a 1st grade High school student studying Japanese in Norway.

The text in both japanese and latin letters says:
    – CES2010
    – Autosaloon
    – Autosaloon
    – SLS
    – Autosaloon
    – Toyota event
    – Supercar event only
    – GT500 event only
    – WRC event only
    – TGS2009
    – WED

  20. Deko Wolf

even if you scroll down to see the logo of the game, the quit game is still there, above the Game logo, but with a fading effect

You can’t run PSP games on a PS3. being Minis the only exception.
It could be a screenshot from GT PSP, but that game doesn’t have the SLS.

The PS3 language is set to Spanish.
When pressing the PS button regardless of what your doing in the game, you can still see the game running in the background.
The XMB assumes the standard PS3 theme when the PS button is pressed.

I can be fake, as there’s a lot of things missing in the XMB.

Other thing that could be possible is….
This being a PS3 TEST System.
A special PS3 used by game developers, all the previous PlayStation had it aswel.

  21. Vivian

this would be the demo off the museum in germany…so this is realistic news. this demo will be a temporarily stitch on our wounds :P because Forza 3 doesn’t!!!!!, it’s SUCKSASS and a FU*KING wasted of my money!!! I’ve sold it and the new owner will burn DVD’s!!!!! Take that Micro$oft!!!!!!

  22. Petrolhead

You can play PSP games on PS3 right? I mean it would be fairly easy to create images like this with GT PSP, wouldn’t it? Run GT PSP, enter XMB menu, take a screenshot with a camera, add some photoshop and that’s it… That would explain the blue racing line and the SLS (if SLS was in GT PSP?). I hope we won’t be getting more of these now that I told you how to do it ;)

  23. scooter1265

Also another thing I’ve noticed in the pictures is that it says “CES 2010”, “SLS”, and “WRC” which I think this could kind of be a compilation of all the demos we’ve seen and some ones we have yet to see.

I think, this is just a guess, that this was leaked from somebody close to either PD or Sony. No way an average person could get this close to their main treasure this easily.

Legit or not, it looks sweet!

  24. newbielives

I say fake, because the screen shot of the car is F#%ING ugly like it’s all stretched out incorrectly.
I’m sure if PD were to release a Nurb Demo, it would look a lot better than that for the BG screenshot

  25. tyl0r_r

Also, it’s from a very credible Neogaf poster. Taking direct in game screenshots wouldn’t convince the general public who would be unable to differentiate that from random Prologue screenshots.

The lap time thing is actually proof that it is real because it would be very difficult to shop a moving time clock as opposed to static. GT doesn’t pause in XBM so the moving clock is the accurate one. Ergo, if it’s a fake it’s a REALLY good fake.

The Uncharted and GOW icons are clearly marked as demos. Just look closely.

The multiple languages on a build screen? Why would PD bother cleaning it up? It’s meant for press events etc… wherre multiple languages could be a boon. Finally and strongest of all, if somebody were going to make a credible fake — why would they mix languages?

Off screen pic so graphics are irrelevant ’cause we don’t know if he’s running SD, 720, 1080, we just don’t know.

So yeah it looks pretty real to me.

  26. Piter_neo

There was MOTOR SHOW POZNAŃ in Poland. There was GT5 demo with Nurburgring and Mercedesa SLS AMG.

Here you can find article describing the event:
    http://www.ps3team.pl/?p=11607

    This is interesting part:
“W demie był zaimplementowany „model zniszczeń” – udało mi się naderwać zderzak z tyłu auta (niestety jedynie z prawej strony…”

    Which means more or less:
“In the demo, there was implemented “damage model” – I managed to tear partly rear bumper (unfortunately only on the right side…)”

  27. tyl0r_r

The PS button doesn’t freeze GT5 Prologue. I don’t know how many times I’ve been driving along on the DFGT and pressed that damn button somehow and lost all speed for several seconds while everybody else keeps going and I fumble to get back to the game.

GT doesn’t freeze when you go to the XMB. Try it out. You guys calling fake should’ve at least tested your theory for Christ’s sake.

  28. SCREEN-Shot-Is-A-lie

If you look at the background; to the top right, it’s giving a lap time, which means the game is running…. So wheres the Quit Game option

  29. RedSuinit

@apollo: Not necessarily, he could have just clicked the down button until the highlighted option was the GT5 game instead of the Quit game option. (Note: I think it is fake, but your logic isn’t necessarily right.)

  30. eric

    @Fredo
It’s just us silly Americans that write the date as MM/DD/YYYY everywhere else in the world it is DD/MM/YYYY, so it was installed about two weeks ago.

  31. Rukgt

i wonder if its possible if you belong to a newspaper or magazine company you would be able to get your hands on it for reviews etc?? any ideas peeps??

  32. GTracerRens

I think it’s fake too, but of course, as we have all seen, the demo with the SLS AMG does really exist. It was playable in the museum.

  33. S3 Racer

Not if it is a selected group, and you are the lucky bastard who sony choose, and sony said no footage, no copying, no distribution whatsoever.

If you were the chosen for the first time, would you shoot sony in the back??

And even if it the redeem code/psn id goes around, Sony will be capable in blocking, or even punishing…

I understand if it is treaten like fort nox

  34. lherre

Well, yes I am the most hated person in the forums as far as I can see …

The mercedes is SLS AMG model (tell me in what GT4 version is this car represented)

I think the demo is for expo purposes, not for retail-psn. And I don’t think it would be released.

If you press the PS button the game is still running. The quit game icon is above the GT icon (invisible in this case).

Please don’t ask for more screenshots, I have more, but I doubt it would be “legal” to release it.

  35. S3 Racer

look and read above the thread in the forum “Gt5 demo???”
And who said the pic is ingame. Maybe it’s a screenshot from Gtpsp as background?!

Agree on the bizarre xmb; there are obviously items missing .

  36. ICWUDT

rattlehead is not right, ScizGT also made a pretty ignorant comment… its just demo icons under the game ur playing…

    so rattlehead,

the guy just pressed the PS button while playing on the nurb hence the non rendered image
and there is no Quit Game simply because he scrolled down to have the GT icon at the top but there are stuff above (PS3 Save and Memory for example)

as always, much retardation on gtplanet

  37. Deko Wolf

    Rattlehead! you are so right!
That’s the most obvious things of them all!

“2All: If it’s an ingame XMB screenshot, then there should be “Quit game” icon instead of “GT Demo 2010″. If application is running, its icon is being replaced with “Quit game”.”

    Simple as that, it’s fake.

  38. DrTrouserPlank

    Rattlehead is right.

This is almost certainly a fake, but it’s a bit immaterial anyway. We know demos exist and we are also sure that these will never be released to the public, so whether this particular picture is fake or not makes little difference to us.

Shameful that dodgy pictures are the closest we’ve got to news on the PS3’s biggest game. I’m really starting to think that they’ve found something seriously wrong with this game, and are trying to fix it behind closed doors whilst still maintaining the pretense of having any intention of releasing it “soon”.

  39. Rukgt

Looks dodgy im hoping its real but i doubt we will see any more playable demo’s released before full phat GT5, I hope im wrong : P

  40. Bpa94

Truth is, there’s a million reasons for and against the reality of this. Either way, I want the game, not another demo, I remember watching videos of GT5 on my psm2 discs, excpecting to be taking it home with my ps3 on launch night. This is complete bs if you ask me (the waiting and stuff) I just hope so much for PD”s sake that they have done a good job of not leaking details, because after 5 years I’m expecting one god almighty game, maybe even the first racing GOTY that I can rememer.

  41. silent_killer59

I say it’s fake based on the fact that there is no quit game icon.

But of course, I wish it was real.

  42. jujub

It looks like the SLS demo at Mercedes museum…
I bet this isn’t a privatly owned PS3, but some “demo pod”.
I remember playing the tokyo demo at the french “festival du jeu video” last summer. When you hit the PS button, you can access the XMB and see all of the other stuf on the hard drive…
At the electronic arts booth, I see someone using it to access an old GT build, with an audi R8 racing on the lemans track…

  43. NBH

The PS button has been pushed while playing the demo, try it in prologue, you lose control of the car which is probably why it’s on the grass.

Different languages in the menu makes sense to me, some shows where the demo has been seen were in japan, some in Europe etc so they were probably made to suit each region and then all put together to make a master demo disc of all the demo builds.

  44. S3 Racer

@ScizGT: layout can be changed by pressing triangle, you can have all your icons in one list

I say the picture at the backgroung is GTPSP look at the pixelisation, typical psp, no grass texture just a plain field, + the pixel jump is noticable here on the freeze.
Gt logo is ther same as GT5P

I say it’s fake even if it doesn’t accomodate me!!!!

If not: NeoGaf’s lherre grow some cohrones and copy the demo and release it on the internet. Let the whole world profit. Hack the planet!!!
    Gimme Gimme Gimme

  45. Rattlehead

Apollo, sorry mate, this was my bad guess between Italian and Spanish ;)

2All: If it’s an ingame XMB screenshot, then there should be “Quit game” icon instead of “GT Demo 2010”. If application is running, its icon is being replaced with “Quit game”.

  46. Apollo

@Rattlehead: Tha’s not italian it’s spanish and yeah that looks kinds fishy.

    @GT4Ever:
I really don’t get how you can make such an assumption from such a bad screenshot, besides as you can see in the menu, apparently this demo has several builds loaded to them and PD has been showing the ring for quite some time so it might as well be an old version of the ring.

  47. Phosphor112

He probably just pushed the PS button… causing the XMB to come up over the gameplay… you know considering the car is in the grass.

  48. Forenza

Ill say its fake. The background image is very UN-pd. Even for a demo, pd is anal about making it look pretty. Why would they slack now?

  49. TokyoDrift

Looks fake to me, but for all I care it could be real – the game is finished and ready for release any time after all, eh Kaz?

  50. Bpa94

I don’t get what youse mean about the timer? Is it not stopped? And most do yes, but some demos don’t freeze when you press ps button. Also if it is an expo demo they aren’t going to wait for you to pause and have a chat, just my theory you Are probably right though. And the guy who said about the games showing up, they are all demos :)

  51. ferhound

but judging by the lap timer its fake because if you press the ps button the game should freeze. maybe this is not the case

  52. Rattlehead

Sadly, looks like a fake. Look at the lap time “behind” the PSN logo in the XMB. The still image of application preview is usually rendered, but not taken ingame with all HUD and stuff like this one.
Also, the build select menu is mixed in english, italian and japanese. Why the hell would they do that?

  53. RedSuinit

@Sciz, those are icons for Demos, you can clearly see where it says E3 2009 Demo under the GOW 3 logo.

  54. JesseDeya

@ScizGT: Gow and U2 could be demos, which would mean they would be visible. It could also be a debug PS3 where quite a few things are possible that aren’t on normal PS3s.

  55. ScizGT

Anyone else have it setup where when you have only one disc in that’s all you can see?? I mean When I have Uncharted 2 in that’s the game I see but for some reason under his list of “Games” he has GT5 Demo 2010, GOW 3, Uncharted 2, and more….I think this is just movies/videos and photoshopped to look like it’s under games. I know I can’t have that many “icons” of games unless they were all in the system at once. Otherwise it is only directly downloaded from PSN or something to your PS3.

  56. tyl0r_r

not obvious it’s gt4 because we don’t know a thing about the TV the screens are of or the res its running.

lucky guy. let’s all hope he takes pics and vids because there’s no way in hell sony’s going to keep this where it was/how it was now that somebody’s found it.

  57. scooter1254

Well, I’d give 2 of my toes for access to that demo.

    or not…

Also, if I might add, this looks to be at the ‘Ring with an SLS AMG!
