Next GT5 Online Update Coming Later Tonight

The next GT5 update will be available to download tonight at approximately 11:00PM (Eastern Standard Time in the United States), as announced by Kazunori Yamauchi on Twitter and Polyphony Digital. Here’s a human translation of his post by our own SHIRAKAWA Akira:

Ok, here comes the long awaited GT5 online update. It will happen in 24 hours. An online special event will be held too.

His Twitter post was followed shortly thereafter by updates on Polyphony Digital’s official websites, announcing scheduled maintenance and downtime of GT5’s online services around the world between 10:00 and 11:00 PM EST (a corresponding notice has also been posted to the European website).

As usual, there is no information about exactly what this update will contain, but we’ll find out soon enough. Thanks to all of you who sent this in so quickly!

After update my system is hanging up. It was fine for 2 hrs. But then couldn’t connect and finally froze. Ut oh.

  2. Jaxob

Nobody noticed the price drops in the online dealership? Brand new formula gran turismo for 2.5 million

  3. SKOT Free

Is it me or are some of these cars in the online dealership just added or extremely rare? I’ve never seen this C12 03 before but it’s The sexiest looking car I’ve ever seen!

  4. wavetool

There are a lot more changes than people are reporting. There is now a Championship save. You can finish a race of a series, save it, and restart the next you play.

Event prizes online are tripled for a limited time. You can also win prizes like items and cars online. Online dealership cars are half price.

    Improved AI.

Plenty more fixes and changes. Read the “News” section for complete details. I’m happy with the update.

  5. SKOT Free

Wooooow! You can pause races in the middle now and resume! Prizes are tripled! You can win cars and racing suits online! Also you can buy parts in the tuning settings screen. The number of helmets and suits available Is kind of big it seems. There’s tons of bug fixes too!

  6. XyonicS

Just wanted the Save in enduros, hmmm, seems I will still not be playing this for some more time while I wait for it.

  7. tw34kfr34k

    oooooo found something hopefull
you get a lvl 23 car ticket from the new seasonal and some more race suits/helms ^^

  8. 95gtivr6

Fiat 500 trial mtn circuit…..limit hp to 65. Limit weight to no less than 1000kg….comfort med or less…n that’s just race one

  9. gtpsuper24

Really?! thats its, Kaz wastes so much time on trivial things, so he has time to mess around with racing suits but didn’t have time to add a few race mods? Or update a couple standard cars to premium, or add a few race tracks from previous GTs. Its all the little distractions like that, that took GT5 so long to be released. Maybe I’ll have to buy a XBox360 and Forza to be able to play a real racing game, I guess they are focusing on racing and not this other BS like Kaz is.

  10. tw34kfr34k

    servers are back up
mostly online changes, half price 0 mile cars in online dealer now and you can save between races in championships.
no saving in undurance though.. wich is all i really wanted.
oh well maybe ill finally get to do the formula gt now cause that took way too long

  11. Kevbo

From what I see you can purchase different tires when you are in a race. I’m at the Expert Championship Race and I can purchase any tires my car doesn’t have without going back to the main screen.

Oh. You can suspend and resume races.

  12. LVolz

Suits and new song locally but server is down so not sure what that has in store. 380 is too big for what I’m seeing. I would assume when the server is back up it may make more sense.

  13. GTP_Rcrcool9 says

Okay, so apparently I have to wait 1145 minutes for the download to finish, and from what I heard there are new race suits an a new song?!?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL?!?! IVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS?!?! Now I wish I had an xbox and Forza 3… :'(

  14. GTP_Rcrcool9 says

Okay, so apparently I have to wait 1145 minutes for the download to finish, and from what I heard there are new race suits an a new song?!?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL?!?! IVE WAITED SO DAMN LONG FOR THIS?!?! Now I wish I had an xbox and Forza 3… :'(

  15. Jameskwondo

Downloading in Cali. It’s decent size as mentioned. For those who have already finished the dl what are the positives. Anything cool?

  16. SKOT Free

If they can add outfits they can add Tracks! My guess is the day Forza 4 launches is when PD hits us with tracks and a new model year car update would be nice!

  17. George

Maybe the online gameplay’s going to be improved since that bit us taking them longer… Hopefully lol because this blows.

  18. tw34kfr34k

you can change your own racesuit (not only bobs) and take pics of it for your profile.
    in short this update blows.
so much space for improvement yet all they give us is crap

  19. Tac

So far there are just some racing suits that you can change (helmet/suit), a new song, and so far that seems to be it.

  20. tw34kfr34k

cant read the updated stuff yet cause i cant connect.
first thing i see is racesuits and a song like said before
i guess most changes are for online will wait and see

  21. Normalaatsra

Good news! Now with PSN’s Welcome Back package which includes PlayStation Plus, I can now sleep while the patch goes online with the automatic update tool.

    Wonder what’s in store.

  22. SKOT Free

It must be something big in the Update for PD to be holding an online special event and remember it’s E3 time, PD has to impress the masses!

  23. ripped

I think there is some confusion as to the terms Eastern Standard Time (EST) and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), of which the US Eastern Time Zone is currently under.

  24. tw34kfr34k

cant log in on gt any more, says its undergoing maintenance.
guess there’s our update :) lets hope its good :D

  25. BWX

In endurance-race and championship saves is what I expect, and bugfixes. Anything more will be a nice surprise. Anything less will be a letdown.

  26. HumanDestroyah

I swear to god if this is to patch the glitch i’ll……keep playing and enjoy the updates like usual. Can’t wait.

  27. HakiraDyson

With news like this I like to keep my expectations sorta neutral. We don’t know what we’re gonna get. Bug fixes seem likely, but don’t know about cars/tracks/features. We shall see though…

  28. Nethereal

I agree that there being downtime indicates some bigger than usual changes…
I’m hoping to see an update in the 100’s of MB range.
That would indicate some kind of added content – be it cars/tracks/whatnot
    cant wait!
i will need a new pair of pants if i get to play seattle in gt5!

    1. azzaj

Teh downtime for the servers indicates code updates server side. This would tend to happen if they are updating the online component.

Don’t get too excited if you see a 500mb update, remember the 50mb update that closed off the gaps in the scenery?

  29. pasigiri

It’s E3 time and I’m hoping this will be something huge. I know sometime back there was mention of some major improvements to GT5. I hope this is one of them.

  30. Primus Ortus

@ Big Ron – that’s because we won’t be getting the update until it goes back to Eastern Standard Time in the Fall…

  31. Big Ron

Why sais the article Eastern Standard Time (for winter times only)? Isn´t it currently Eastern Daylight Time (summer)?

  32. Guesser

considering that he said “long awaited GT5 online update”, I think we can expect something good.

  33. Big Ron

He talks about an “online” update, so maybe just the online part of GT5. I expect nothing big.

  34. well....

Honestly, I don’t have any hope as i don’t want deception to be there, again. ( read all other previous updates). The only reason i now play GT5 is to make the time goes faster when i’m on my interior bike. 28miles in one hour is easier when my mind is focus in gt5.

  35. occasionalracer

Given that Kaz’s comment was short and sweet, I think we can expect something extensive and sweet. When he talks too much he’s usually trying to put a damper on expectations. Let’s see tonight…

  36. bigburt82

    My wishlist for the patch:

    1. Mid-championship & Endurance Race save points
    2. DLC car packs
    3. Convert Standard Cars to Premium Cars
    4. More tuning customisation
    5. Drag strip course for top speed records
    6. More tracks – Hong Kong,El Capian, Apricot Hill etc.

I think the saves and tracks are most likely as Kaz confirmed around two months ago that they were in progress, and the 25 extra track logos were found on the website several weeks ago.

    Fingers crossed…

  37. AleX Gontijo

Getting G27 full support would be nice, but I am really expecting the online rankings and in game saves. That’s all for me. (no dreams about Premium Veyron…)

    1. Rob

Yes, can this game finally give some love to both the G25/27? Since I own one and I can’t change the buttons it is a big want for me. As far as the other stuff people are talking about, we will see. I would like to think it will be huge but it probably won’t be.

  38. HKS racer

If we will get anything relevant that’s cool BUT I suggest you to tone down your expectations if you don’t want to be extremely disappointed.

  39. Tokitai

When people see an update about 3 megabytes… Hopes for your premium cars and new tracks gone !!! Like alcohol in weddings , I mean tears in the rain… ;-)

  40. Jameskwondo

Well I’m guessing that Ut will be maintenance and bug fixes mostly but the optimist in me hopes for more. Lots of good wish list items above for sure. I’d like to add a better filter for online room creation. One that would include street cars only just as an example.

  41. guyc1161

i’m not sure, can’t remember, but wasn’t there mention of a gt drivers club or gt club…something in that order in the news section (top right hand corner) onthe gt5 main menu screen a while back.i do remember they said to keep an eye on the news for more info.it would be tied into the seasonal events or replace them, again i’m not sure……..

    1. Big Ron

It´s not meant to happen at 11 PM european time, but american time…and there it is 6.30 PM now, so another 3 hours to go.

  42. HSV_GTS

I can’t wait to find out what’s in the new update. 1.1 is meant to be a big update but it probably won’t be.

  43. Jim

I won’t speculate too much on the update as that can only lead to disappointment … I do have high hopes though, mostly based on the words “long awaited.” I know things can be lost in translation, but that really intrigues me. However, I would not read too much into “online seasonal event” as all seasonal events are online events.

  44. SEan

i just wish they will make an update where you can save during endurence races, both aspec n bspec

  45. ebhk

I hope it has something to do with the 24 hours of Le Mans this weekend!! Maybe a R18 and a 908? naarhh, don’t really believe it…

  46. Antony Henley

Just reading a few of the well posts or for want of a better name some of the delusions of grandeur that some of you have been spitting fourth.

alot of you really need to wake up and smeel what your posting. You read posts of “what you want” or “expect” to see in the next update or some more stupid people write the update off and thery have no clue as to whats in it. Why dont you just wait for the patch top be released. Simple as that, I expect there will be some disapointed, however seeing as it was posted that a long awaited update is being released then perhaps it is a bit more significant than a 20 meg update, wouldnt you say.

    1. Ealid

The only thing “long awaited” means to me is that a certain PSN outage interfered with getting it out, and thus we had a long wait.

    2. geoff allan

Please. If you’re going to post something that you’d like to be taken seriously, please could you check the quality of it as there are many many typo errors and many punctuation errors. In fact there are so many i was finding it hard to follow.

Essentially, i agree with you, i think?

  47. benja

I know this is a massive stab in the dark but i’ve just updated to v6.35 and this brings a backup function for the PSP, i wonder if we might see GT5 using the PSP at last, after all i remember reading that we may be able to view replays from GT5 on the PSP…. the mind boggles!

    1. Amac500

Same, wish I could do Le Mans in a new prototype like the Aston Martin AMR-One, Audi R18, and/or Peugeot 90X ;)

  48. DreamIRC

Finally arrives, I hope to meet all expectations.
Save in resistence races, advanced controls in replays?, new cars? new tracks? More options? More evenst? we expect from this update?

    I soo exited ^_^

    1. terminator363

Does PD even care about us. (No trolling) I am refering to the discussion about E3 and PD

    1. Amac500

      Lol, thanks Chris.

In a perfect world (for me) it would have all the international Le mans cup tracks and some of this years Le mans models like the Ferrari 458, Current Corvette, the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1, Audi R18, Peugeot 90X, and the Aston Martin AMR-One. Also I need those in game saves or I will never finish endurance, lol

    2. Chris

I muddled up one thing. In race saves you may very well get. Kaz has mentioned working on it, it’s just not confirmed for THIS update yet.

    3. SoCal89

ROFLMBO, all you’ve done is troll for month after month here, and your bad at it to boot. By your own words you’ve sold your PS3, game, and wheel (has long has years ago, as reccent as March of this year) and don’t care anymore, yet here you are trolling yet again, like you do every time there’s positive news. Not foolin nobody.

  49. Lambob

I am buying a second PS3 , just in case.

Thanks Kaz! Looking forward for my day off life tomorrow to play the new & improved GT5

    1. PFFFFT

Imaginary info from a troll “who’s done with this game”, and supposedly “sold his PS3, DFGT, etc”, and now gives us complaints about the imaginary version he’s been playing since november……lol

    2. gulyo

      No, you’re not right …
THAT would be the right treat for this game, as all you know ( exchange the sounds and convert up the standard cars to premium ).
You are just blind or …
I would rebuy it immediately !

    3. FAIL

Uhhhh, no, you were tryin to bait people about what we are getting. Mabey if you didn’t try to pull these stunts all the time it wouldn’t be so obvious what your up to.

  50. A_Higher_Place

Yeah, i’m excited about the update. But past experience with other game developers is that if they don’t tell you what the update is.. you probably wouldn’t want it in the first place. I hope i’m wrong though :)

  51. chriz00

Let’s hope that because the update will be available at night, that it may be a “big” sized file for us to download while we are sleeping. :)

  52. Black300zx

Not expecting new content, would think they hype that an announce it before release. I am hoping for in-race saves for endurance races (and b-spec co drivers?) and maybe fix those stupid shadows.

tweaks/features is what I assume we get, but will be very happy with new content (tracks, cars etc).

  53. The-Spitfeather

At least they have told the truth about when they were going to release the update and the last patch updates they told us what the updates did so they probably would do now if it was just a patch.

  54. Pepps

I prefer the updates to be kept secret, that way there’s more positivity on here.
I’m keeping my hopes up for Premium RUF cars and some of the old tracks. Ha! I’ll keep dreaming!

    1. RacerX

New tracks would be absolutely awesome. I’d prefer those over new cars I think. Not complaining but I’m ready for some new(old) tracks to drive round. El Capitan!

    2. suntoucher

yeh, premium RUF would be nice….or even 100 or so Racing Modifications for the premiums we have already.

F40 GT LM anybody?? BLAP BLAP!!

  55. BeefyPeeg

I love how vague they are. No details/hype before the release often worries me, though that’s more of a personal character flaw than a fault of PD. Either way, I still hope for something like Endurance Race saves, or trade cap lifts…

I’m out of fingers to cross…

  56. Brandon

Here’s a dumb question, does GT5 Online usually have “scheduled maintenance and downtime” that coincide with updates? If not, then I’d guess there will be some changes to the online mode. It may be something significant if it’d need to be down for an hour to accomplish. Bug fixes I can see, but maybe an expansion on the whole seasonal events formula? That could be cool. Maybe DLC!

    1. Brandon

Okay, I just re-read the article. Hello, I’m Mr. Obvious. Holding out hope for some new goodies either way.

  57. Enkeixpress

It would be nice to know exactly what is in the update before it’s released..

Looks like Polyphony want whatever that it’s it to be a surprise.

    /obvious

  58. MrDrWatson

I’m pretty sure it will add the hood camera view, the championship race saves and the ability to save during the endurance races. But the big surprise is that we’ll be able to ride horses! :)

  59. B815

no information on what promised updates won’t be in this update? bummer. I always enjoy a good “get your hopes up for nothing”

  60. Countdown

I wonder how long before some nice person pipes up with an ubsubstanciated “pull your this out of your that, biggest update ever, you all don’t have brains, blah blah blah…..” comment. Lol, isn’t it tradition now?……

  61. pigboy

They SHOULD have a garage icon in practice menu. You have to exit practice to change cars.Pigboy also says group photo’s of personal cars would be nice
Also a network going down on you does not refer to sexual acts

  62. Kyle Rohde

Yeah, I’m not expecting much, though I hope they’re working a huge update maybe with some DLC for later. They’ve got to have known Forza 4 was coming and they need some major ammo to sustain the GT franchise over the next couple years while GT5 ages. Who the heck knows when GT6 will happen, if ever!

    1. Sam

HAHA that was funny! Forza 4 is not even a threat to GT5, Forza 3 without gt5 sold 3 mill copies in 2 years and GT5 sold 7 mill copies in 8 month. I don’t think PD looks at Forza as a competition they also said that and i agree with them.

    2. Twerp De Guy

“I don’t think PD looks at Forza as a competition”

Every time I read that i’m reminded of that press party PD held shortly after one of the Forzas came out, where there was a pic of Kaz with an Xbox360 sitting on a desk in the foreground, with a PS3 version NFS game blocking the 360 logo. Don’t see them has comp my arse. Lol, I don’t think they had it for playing Halo…..

    3. GamerGT5

@Twerp De Guy Atually Kaz did play FM3 when it came out. He didn’t care for their physics engine he stated.

    4. Sean

Lol, like the guy is going to come out and say “Oh, hey, they did a great job.”, or something. The idea is NOT to praise your competition regardless of what you really think of it.

    1. stjimmy

Brilliant, we’re lucky to have this inside information. I wont bother with the download now. Thanks for the heads-up brainfade.

  63. ed24f1

I better get on to finishing some of the Seasonal Events I haven’t done then, just in case they don’t return!
