Night Screenshot of GT5’s Special Stage Route 5

Although the Official PlayStation Magazine UK editors were not provided with any new information about GT5 for their latest feature article, they did include an interesting shot of what appears to be Special Stage Route 5. As you may recall, this track was always played at night in previous GT games, but that doesn’t make it look any less cool. Thanks to Captain Roh for sharing these! Evilneal has also shared the full scans here if you’d like to see more.

    Just got news from my cousin that his freind who works for pd just says that gt5 Is looking for a worldwide release on MAY 14

    p.s. Nothing confirmed yet but it comes from a reliable source

  2. Mustangmiha

    @LarryL:

    Hm, dynamic weather was used even in 6th-gen consoles, such as GTA and other games. Why wouldn’t we see dynamic weather in GT5 and/or on PS3?

  3. mcknight8279109

    all i care about is the toyota supra lol i just wanna hear the sweet sound of a modded 2jz engine if they got that right then i know they got everything else right ans plus even Grand theft auto 4 has weather that goes from rainy to sunny and back again and i mean come on if tracks have slick spots or something this is something that even pole position back in the day had lol albeit a big blob of saliva lookin ass thing but still even so the rain and shit shouldnt be a factor heavy rain shows rain running down on the windsheild just make a bunch of random animations for rain drops and shit moving along the windsheild and no one will notice the animations repeating lol cuz we will be trying not to crash and they bette have the nascars flying into a bunch of pieces like real life lol instead of that old predetermined ass shit from forza and shift and even GTA4 has some real lookin damage if you hit a pole the car will have a big ass dent where the pole hit it if you fuck your car up enough the wheel wont move i mean come on now if GTA4 could do it then I KNOW PD can do it

  4. EVO!

    solids, right, in the game production department. what Polyphony has set out to do is already done. They did their game engine, poly modeling and game core mechanics.

    Whatever happens after that is the icing on the cake. This includes higher resolution textures, refinement of the engine (new weight physics), features including weather effects, polishing game mechanics, and online capabilities. Hence the delay ;P

  5. soLid

    @Blackjack
    Really makes you think what percentage of the game was completed when it was announced at last year’s E3. I believe that PD had just modeled cars and track all these years and are now trying to put thinks together somehow…

    “This is OLD stuff, and the barrel is really getting scraped for news these days!” -TokyoDrift +1

    Couldn’t agree more, it’s absolute typical of the type of news we have been receiving lately. This is not a shot at GT planet, but KY for keeping so damn tight lipped about the whole thing. We haven’t seen a drop of rain yet have we? Dynamic weather? I think it’s quite realistic to believe that this wont come out in 2010… with so much still up in the air it only tells me that so little of the complete game is finalised. Unless the game is perfect, (which is impossible) then alot of fans wont forget the experience that is being a loyal GT fan….

  7. newbielives

    Perhaps you can select time of day and type of weather but Dynamic weather?
    I still doubt it just like how Indy was cut probably from mis understanding of Game Journalist and motor sports such as confusing F1 for Indy

  8. Alexander

    I would be more impressed if this picture was during the day… because we all know all the SS tracks are already at night. BRING ON THE RAIN!

  9. brettjr25

    @LarryL

    Take it however you want it but the official Playstation magazine already confirmed weather in the game. “Weather effects, as well as night racing for all tracks, will be making their first appearance.”

    Now whether your post was complaining about people expecting weather to change during the course or people expecting weather to be selectable, I’m not sure, you’re post was much too eccentric for me to discern that.

    I also disagree with the fact that you think things like that can’t be done in a high level game. I seen game with beautiful graphics on the PS3 that had rain start up and stop during gameplay. I also played racing games where the day progressed from day to night.

    I’m thinking you’re the opposite of what you’re accusing. Instead of someone who’s getting their hopes unrealistically high, you’re keeping them extremely low so that you can’t be disappointed.

    @LARRYL

    “but you people asking for dynamic weather should really get your heads out of the….clouds…..(pun intended), BECAUSE I’M FORECASTING a 0% chance of dynamic weather.”

    So because YOU forcast no dynamic weather thats 100% fact???

    I dont know about us taking our head out of clouds but you need to get your head out of something.

  11. blubb

    @8@No$

    Yes, physics are the most important thing – also for me. But it’s still a question of improvement. GT4 = physics able on PS2 & GT5 = physics able on PS3.

    I am talking about new “Features” which pushes the the series forward or maybe the whole genre. Until now i can not see something like that. That’s why i have the fear we won’t see anything “new” – no bashing or whining just a feeling.

  12. Devedander

    LarryL: Test Drive Lemans on Dreamcast had dynamic weather (ie it changed throughout the race, not that it was matched to real life locations, just that it would got from dry to rainy to dry again).

  13. tyl0r_r

    awesome news, i’m happy about the supposed refined handling and better weight transfer. not that i had any real issues with prologue but better is.. better!

    dynamic weather is exciting but i don’t think OPM has much credibility for GT news after the indycar thing.

  14. maxpontiac

    EVO –

    Considering the facts —

    There is an F-1/Indy type racer in GT5 Prologue.
    The garage’s are transferrable from GT5 Prologue.

    I am not worried about because while the IRL is not featured, we know at least one car and in all likelihood others.

    Plus, magazines make mistakes all the time, that type of stuff happens.

  15. Jammy

    “damage (= but not very impressive – means: only scratches at 200 mph frontal crash)”
    For production cars,yes they have limited visual damage.But also have full mechanical damage.

  16. TheStalker29

    @LarryL,

    Good point about the rainy screenshots. Apart from the night time racing on traditionally daytime looking tracks, we’ve seen just about every new feature through screen shots.

    Personally I’m not fussed if the weather is ‘dynamic’ or not. It’d just be good to race in the rain, be it constant rain or dynamic.

  17. EVO!

    is this the magazine where they stated “indy cars confirmed”?

    why are we still looking at this?

    i dont think its anyones best intrest in looking at this mag anymore. (its not that the whole magazone lost crediablity) but the whole editoral has already false information.

  18. Bolg

    @ TokyoDrift
    I’ll have to your word on that although my cheap old scanner would do a much better job than that, that’s all I’m getting at.

  19. Watevaman

    @LarryL

    I’m just as skeptic as you, but I really wouldn’t know why they would say dynamic (or changing) weather in the article when they could just say preset weather.

  20. LarryL

    Why do you people keep saying “DYNAMIC WEATHER”? Wake up and stop over-expecting stuff. “DYNAMIC” weather isn’t gonna happen. It’s just not…not in GT5, and probably not this gen…..at least not on a racing game up to the visual and content standards of GT5. That’s a pipe dream right now, in fact I’m pretty sure someone from PD, perhaps it was even KY himself, confirmed there would not be “dynamic” weather.

    Seriously, anyone expecting dynamic weather is just setting themselves up for disappointment, or trying to give themselves a reason to bash the game when it doesn’t have it (and it won’t).

    Just pray like I do, that they even give us rain period. Which I REALLY hope they do just from a cool graphical standpoint based on the awesome rain effects in F1 Championship and the Ferrari/SuperCar Challenge games. But I’m starting to suspect we aren’t even going to get rain based on the fact that not a single screen has surfaced suggesting rain aside from that one supposed online menu screen leak that showed a weather icon that was showing sunny with some clouds. I TRULY hope there’s rain in the game, but you people asking for dynamic weather should really get your heads out of the….clouds…..(pun intended), because I’m forcasting a 0% chance of dynamic weather.

  21. TheStalker29

    Racing the SS Route in the daytime will be crazy after all these years playing it in the dark. Headlights looks good. It’ll be interesting to see how the shadows look whilst you’re driving. C’mon KY, give us a release date and put us all out of our misery!

  22. 8@No$

    blubb, man the most important thing is the physics. The physics are completely new, very very good and much more realistic than those of GT4. So it is not an up to date GT4. But, of course, we have higher expectations from GT5. We also need more cars (not counting the different colours of a car as a different car), more tracks, dynamic weather, damage, more extensive tuning and more racing styles. As for the last one, I would like to see hillclimbs like in GT2 and more, special stages, more events with classic cars, drag races (it would be fun – even on ice or salt).. I would also prefer to have dynamic fuel consumption (which is very important in racing strategy) rather than skidmarks and, generally, I would prefer improvements that have to do with the car and its behaviour over any visual improvements. But that is just me..
    I would also prefer a summer release date over a christmas one. And you?

  23. blubb

    @S3 Racer + GlobeKIDD

    it’s not my opinion – it’s my fear

    … by seeing no really “new” things, like night races or for example changing weather conditions, confirmed. Everything else are only improvements – a up to date GT4.

  24. Viktor Navorsky

    Almost fainted when i´ve started to read the headline “Night Screenshot of GT5´s …” then comes the deception… Special Stage Route 5….

    well well… this site will surely cause me some sort of heart disease…

  25. Alan D.

    @tbc21: There is no typo. The Ford GT40 was a le mans racecar built in the 1960’s, while the Ford GT was a street-legal car built in the mid 2000’s that was inspired by the GT40. The car shown in the picture is a Ford GT, not a GT40.

    “GlobeKIDD Says:

    @Blubb: I respect your opinion, but i think you’re wrong. lol.” x2 AGREE

    i loved this circuit. The turns after the tunnel always rocked.

  27. Bg Ron

    The SS Route- tracks are all one complex. If you find one, you should find the oters. Just different layouts, but the same city track.

  28. P37Mac

    Night racing in route 5 always was cool, but I can’t help imagining what the deepest darkest sections of the ‘ring are going to be like at 150mph with only your headlights to show the way…

  29. TokyoDrift

    @Bolg, these were scanned, at very high resolution. Search the forums for them.

    This is OLD stuff, and the barrel is really getting scraped for news these days!

  30. blubb

    “As you may recall, this track was always played at night in previous GT games, … ”

    Meanwhile I doubt we will see anything “NEW” … except graphics (only up to date), more cars, changed (maybe better) physics, damage (= but not very impressive – means: only scratches at 200 mph frontal crash) and online gaming (with crash kids)

    GT5 = only improved GT4 on PS3 ??? hopefully not … but in the end i will be also satisfied with that

  31. Laurie

    @fade
    Try and hit the wall at daytona ring (GT5P) while driving at a high speed, sure you will get your punishment at an even light collision.

  32. noname

    Yeah I dont believe all this.. next month, they come back saying that it was a mistake, and we dont have dynamic weather system or improved sound..

  33. fade

    Those walled tracks always make me grimace. I never liked them in Gran Turismo due to the fact that you could just bump or grind along the walls without a crash a bang or the car slowing down… REALLY hope they address this in GT5, far more important than damage imo, even if racing with damage off – give us an incentive not to hit the wall!

  34. Rune

    I’ll bet that the special stage route 5 is the only night race we’ll get, and maybe they throw in some rain at the same time…wham bam and night race and dynamic weather for the marketing people… It would be so typical PD!!

  35. Skidmark

    Man! Everytime I get disheartened and feel like giving PD a slagging for these delays something like this pops up and gets me excited again!

    I hope this means we get to race SS Route 11 in the day.

    Glad it seems the weather is confirmed, after the last cock up with the Indycars I think they will have made sure this article is accurate.

  36. madaz75

    @Crashbroke23 YES!! I love the original SS Route 11 from GT1. It just wasn’t the same in GT3.
    Would love to see it again

  37. Juniordee

    They say night racing will be a debut in the GT series. But of course the track they showed has always been played at night in previous GT games. Maybe they didn’t realize that?

    And I hope that dynamic weather is true.

  38. Mickle Pickle

    Dynamic Weather ?! improved Sound Reproduction? ! Better Handling !?!

    Music to my ears ….
    … makes our dream sweeter !! If only we could know when this is coming true !

  39. Crashbroke23

    Great, one of the iconic night tracks from the GT series is in GT5. Heres hoping that the other iconic night track (SS Route 11) gets in GT5 in its original GT glory.
