Two Fresh Nordschleife/SLS Gran Turismo 5 Screenshots

As if you needed any more reasons to get excited about the possibilities in GT5‘s Photomode, here’s two sharp new images of the SLS AMG on the Nurburgring.They’ve been released on the announcement that the SLS AMG/Nurburgring demo, which has been featured at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, will soon be playable at Mercedes dealers across Europe. So, if you’ve got a dealership close by, be sure and keep an eye out for it.

Thanks to Amar212 for digging up these screenshots, Thilo for the heads-up on the new prominent GT5 display at the museum, and Stefan1904 for finding these pictures of two-time F1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen playing the game.

UPDATE: Thanks to Amar212, I’ve updated the screenshots below to their 5-megapixel versions, and included some new photos of Yamauchi testing the SLS AMG at the ‘ring with touring car legend Bernd Schneider.

    Forza’s scenery graphics look like a Dreamcast game. As for the gameplay, I have no idea how the myth that Forza has more realistic physics than Gran Turismo began. Heck, in Forza 3, one doesn’t even have to follow the correct racing line to put in fast lap times. If you did that in any Gran Turismo title, you’d be screwed.

  2. Geo_212

    @danielwhite74

    Sure, the car graphics in FM3 can’t compare to GT5’s, but the scenery graphics, engine sounds, track sounds, physics, and gameplay are lightyears ahead of GT5P. Hopefully, though, GT5 will beat FM3, because chances are that I’m not getting an Xbox 360 (the only time I can get one is around when GT5 will be released, in October [hopefully]). I might get one sooner, though ;)

  3. Richard Kimble

    To be fair though, I suspect that the crowd thing is due to the limitations of the PS3

  4. Geo_212

    @Richard Kimble

    Yeah, the one thing I can’t stand the most is the gaily-colored grass and and 2-dimensional crowds. The immensity of the tracks is also lacking.

  5. Geo_212

    @danielwhite74

    Really? Cause I thought it was a pure-bred simulator. Oh, wait, it is. Listen, graphics mean nothing if the gameplay is perfect, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the career. Until GT5 comes out, Forza 3 is my PERSONAL favorite.

  6. Richard Kimble

    Well danielwhite74, if you’re going to start about graphics I hope GT5 can improve upon GT5 Prologue’s extremely poor `crowds’, trees, and landscape!

  7. danielwhite74

    Geo_212, Forza 3 is an arcade game with chugging last-gen graphics and an underwhelming career mode. Gran Turismo 5 will completely and utterly annihilate it.

    @ tommygt, ralph89 & Tek9

    WELL SAID, and to Ryan, who do you think you are?

    It’s troll’s like you that lower the tone for everyone else.

    Hell ryan you could be a better racer than me……….but I don’t care. I’m buying GT5 to have fun on what I consider is the best racing series i’ve ever played. I’m not buying to be the best, hell I know i’m not the best after seeing my rank on the time trial demo (i’m no-where near the best, lol)

    Why do you have to come on here and be so agressive when all people are doing is coming on a website to get information about an upcoming game and discuss it.

    Seriously dude you need to chill out.

    Anyway back on topic:

    I love all the pictures there, especially the ones showing Kaz there when they were still testing the car, he’s obviously taken a keen interest in this car right from the very start and look forward to playing it in the game (not as much as the Supra but that’s personal preference)

    Does anyone know if the actual racing circuit (F1 circuit) part of the ring will be on the gaem at all?

  9. tommygt

    ryan – if you pulled your head out of your arse for long enough you’d realise that you get silly cheating kids no matter what platform you play on, and its not just restricted to the racing genre either. If you’ve been gaming for as long as you claim then you should know this. You feel bad for Kaz? …I feel bad for Jordan, who puts pressure on himself to bring any information he can to the people who care, and then has an ignorant rant-artist like yourself lowering the tone for everyone else.

    Oh, and one last thing… what the hell do you think private lobbys are for? Oh wait, you need to have friends for that.

  10. ryan

    Ralph no need for assumtions,i know everything about sim racers.you would know if you raced me.i’ve been playing sim racers since the 186 was the fastest computer on the market.

  11. Bernd

    Something has to be done with the penalty-system in online-racing, that’s for sure. Take Fuji as an example. There’s several opportunities to drive over grass and overtake others without getting a penalty, but if you’re trying to get back on the track after being rammed, you get the time-penalty, I hate that. And ANY attempt, to ram or block other cars, should get a penalty. But not the way it happens today: Too often I’m the one who gets rammed AND has to take the penalty – what the !#”@ ?!?

  12. ralph89

    @ryan

    I guess you haven’t been playing Iracing, Rfactor, or even GTR2/Evo that much to notice. But in my personal experience playing it, I’ve seen a lot of noob drivers that will slam on you or block you if they notice that you will pass them, or beat them. You can’t change the fact that there are other people out there that doesn’t have sportsmanship and doesn’t like to lose to a more skilled driver. Neither GT5p, Iracing, GTR, Rfactor, or any other racing sim out there can avoid these type of people. So stop trolling like you haven’t played a console racing sim before. Without GT, you probably had no clue what a sim racing game look like.

  13. Geo_212

    These pics are amazing… Oh, and I just played Forza Motorsport 3 today, and I was almost in tears. Half because the game was beautiful, and half because I was worried GT5 might not win over FM3. PLEASE don’t bust me up for saying this, trust me, I’m a pure GT fan, but until E3, I have my doubts.

  14. Tek9[R]

    ryan, you know you will be playing this game. mabey i’m a snob like you but I feel “true gamers” should have all consoles a PC, and a 3d screen….racers are probably ones who get paid to do this in real life. Like the people in the pics. GT has always been praised by the motorsports community, like how many mags gave GT4 away as a prize. I am here (psn) because of GT, you know the hardcore GT fan will follow it any where.

    I can’t wait for E3!

  15. ryan

    I feel really Bad for Kazunori Yamauchi. he put all this pressure on himself to make a game for a stupid,undeserving fanbase commmunity like Sony and its console users. if this game was for PC it wouldn’t be critized like it has been for PS3. i racing and gtr2 PC sim racers would have treated GT5 with the respect it deserves,not the sony idiots. i think yamauchi should make gt5 the last racer for a console and focus on the real racers by making it for PC only. gt5p has the worst online community of drivers out of any game out today.imagine on expert level for gt5p ure being slammed into walls and pushed into grass.tell me 1 game for the PC where you would see something like that.sony games are for little kids and gamers with little skills and a genius like Kaz should not have to make a great franchise like gt5 for a stupid console community like psn.

  16. ralph89

    @Oddtime

    We all know it wouldn’t be since it’s “Photo mode”, but we all can rest a sure that 80% of that picture quality will look in-game graphics. Just like GT5 Prologue. Even though GT5 prologue is getting old, it’s still one of the best looking racing game out there, and no any other racing game manage to match it yet. It’s the Crysis of console racing game. It will take probably a couple of years from now for the competition to match that.

  17. Oddtime

    you guys know that the game will not look like those screenshots,right?

    I don’t get the point of posting this as GT news.

  18. rgt5uk

    This realy should be released on the PSN if it can be shown in merc’s showrooms. But I suppose most people will just rip it apart and take the piss which is a shame, I would love to get my hands on this.

  19. JBO!!

    TS! you r wrong..GT% has been confirmed by ign to be at E3…SO yeah im guessing they will have a long presentation i think we r gonna get a lil more than a fancy trailer…this year maybe some indepth look at carrer mode or GT mode..:)…cant wait for E# and the WORLD CUP GO MEXICO!!

  20. Ner0_sol03

    Jordan is the man… U should get ur gt5 copy for free and ur name in the credits since u kept us more updated than the creator himself.. O cute pics yay more nurburg and mercades pictures yay…!!! Sarcasm about the pictures

  21. gtone339

    Sweet, I want to see this in E3 2010 next month:

    More Circuit/Tracks
    Le Man Prototypes
    More New/old Cars etc
    WRC – need more info
    NASCAR – need more info
    Damage
    Online
    Release date
    GT Mode etc…

  22. noname

    Jordan,

    may I suggest you to have that live thing you had at last years E3? I’d be happy to follow it again! :) Especially now when GT5 is confirmed for E3 2010.

    Im sure that all the other thousands of GT fans would like to follow that too.

    Or perhaps even a live camera, so that we can follow the show from home? If your budget allows it of course! :)

    1. Jordan

      Yep, I’ve got someone who will be on the show floor at E3, and will send me updates, pictures, and videos which I will post immediately. GTP will definitely have you covered when it comes to all the GT5 news out of E3. :)

  23. noname

    @ TS

    Look again! ;) Under the title “Sony Computer Entertainment” ..

    They just added Gran Turismo 5 .. That saved my day for sure! ;-)

  24. Viejaloca

    They’re just doing this for publicity with manufacters. They don’t care if we want a demo…

  25. Stefan1904

    @lugi: If you have eyes and can read, you would have noticed that Mika Häkkinen can be seen on the linked pictures playing the game and not on the video.

  26. ralph89

    What the hell are you talking about Lugi? Mika Häkkinen picture was in the article above playing GT5. Please read it first before saying something stupid. it said “Stefan1904 for finding these pictures of two-time F1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen playing the game.” Click “these picture” for proof.

  27. lugi

    mika häkkinen???? please tell me one thing: if you are such racing fans and play “your” real driving simulator, why the hell don´t you know, that this is NOT mika.oh my god – not sony and not PD, but YOU ALL ARE EPIC FAIL!!!!

  28. JayKayEm

    I have heard that GT5 is programming every known species of bird to fly in the sky. Its another two years development time but boy… it’ll be worth it! ;-)

    From what I have seen so far, it looks as though the Gran Turismo series is now being used more as a promo tool for car manufacturers and to sell fancy TV’s rather than for its grass roots GT fans? Just an observation…..

    PS – Screen shots look great! Judgement day awaits….!

  29. Bernd

    Did you guys ever brake and slide into the grass ? Of course you’ll see the tracks, everything driving through grass leaves a track. The ones in the picture may not look perfect, but as someone stated above, the vid’s about one year old.

  30. dami1983

    it is already in some dealers, I had the opportunity to play in February. c which is a shame that the demo only lasts 3 minutes if I remember right

  31. ralph89

    @aleksandarSRB

    I totally agree, a lot of people from third world countries has a lot of GT fans in it. I know a lot. and having an incomplete game is not very good to treat fans from poor countries.

  32. aleksandarSRB

    hammertime
    You forgot that many PS3 user’s don’t have connected PS3 to internet… So game must be perfect with out DLC… I don’t want game full of bugs and then DLC to fix that!!! Sorry for my english. :)))))))))))))))

  33. Hoodie1878

    I can see a mercedes dealership from my office!

    They’ll be sick of me in a few weeks.

  34. Steady_Dave_2JZ

    @red baron

    graphics have updated since Prologue so would be nuice to see those cars with mors poly’s and such.

    @pranl

    If you look at the picture with all the SLS’s facing the picture coming up the hill, on the right hand side of the picture, going back to near the red SLS, there are what appears to be tyre marks, however these go onto the grass which looks like a mistake.

  35. jash

    countdown to E3
    cant wait
    grt pics should release more info i would love to see a DB9 and an R8 in some pics

  36. Hussain

    @hammertime

    You’re kidding right? Then essentialy it become like all those bug ridden games like Modern Warfare and Socom Confrontation.

    Absolutely no, take your time P.D, I’m a patient man. I know I’m waiting for something worth waiting for.

  37. hammertime

    I’ve forgiven Sony many things but this really is beyond a joke now.

    RELEASE THE GAME!! just fix it with DLC.

  38. TheDemoMan

    I have GT5 2010 demo (Mercedes Benz SLS AMG on Nordschleife) and I’m very disapointed. Graphic looks like GT4 in higher resolution. Way behind of graphics of NfS:Shift (which on the other hand has really bad physics). Driving of SLS is strange and I didn’t find it funny or realistic.

    BTW – I really liked GT Academy demo. So something wrong is in this 2010 demo…

  39. pegaz2507

    Woow! Great pictures! The wait is killing me. Cant wait for E3, I am sure it will be huge for GT5!

  40. Frank

    I really don’t see the big deal here.. the fence in that picture looks like it was just slapped on there using microsoft paint or something, PD has already shot themselves in the foot with all these delays.. there’s no way in hell it will ever live up to expectations, I lose more and more interest with every “media” release.

  41. Steady_Dave_2JZ

    @ dbarrade

    yeah I see that too. Weird.

    Apart from that I think they are damn good shots!

  42. WonkyFonk

    Ah, I get it now. GT has turned into a promotional tool for selling new cars.

    Its a bit like when you go to the auction section at a motor show but can only get in if you are bidding. Sorry mate, you can only play, sorry ‘try’ this if you are buying an SLS.

    Would love to see high class Merc dealers getting overrun with teenagers queueing to play this ‘game’

  43. DrTrouserPlank

    ..Also to add to my annoyance is that for this demo to be rolled out across the Mercedes dealerships internationally means that it’s actually been uploaded to the PSN store.

    How much trouble would it have been to have just stuck it on the store in this or next week’s update?? really…

    The uploading and verification process is what takes the time; once it’s been given the all-clear, adding it to the store content is a 5 minute job.

  44. RedBaron

    That shot with forrest on the left is fantastic.

    But the second one looks too artificial, like some hardcore PC sim, not like GT with its lightning. That fence looks like baby toy fence, barriers are still 2D, worn out curb doesn’t correspond with road lightning at all. Even meadow in the background is just plain texture with no grass or bush and picture has been postprocessed weird way when the “swooshing” lines on the road reach over curb into the grass on the bottom right corner.

  45. Racer

    Don´t forget Bernd Schneider. He is not only a 5 time DTM Winner… He won the FIA GT Championship back in the “good days”. (199X) ;)

  46. DrTrouserPlank

    How about instead of releasing the demo in Mercedes dealerships they release it on the PSN where the fans might actually have a chance to play it. Seemingly the only people who get access to all these demos are the people who don’t even know what GT5 is.

    This demo was of course made when the SLS was actually a new car as opposed to being a one year old monstrosity by the time the game is finally released.

  47. Nameless

    We have seen gt5(p) screenshots since 2007 , how can anyone still be excited about that?

  48. DonJon

    on this screenshots it looks like, this is a newer version of the ring with updated textures, just as the ones we got to see some time ago from that fuji chicane.

    however looks absolutely brilliant and is far more than enough for me to wait a little longer. I mean that is the whole point about GT isn’t it. In comparison to Forza they really keep an eye on the details and although you might not be able to worship all this work before the game finally ships, you will definitely be thankful for them, when you will actually play the final game.

  49. YossiGab

    Graphics is great – the cars, the grass & the trees.
    The only problem is that the fences looked too much 2D because they don’t have any shadows that will give the 3D effect.

  50. jash

    Such grt grafics
    should be ezpecting a demo to be releasded just car would be enough to stop us frm drooling all over the screen plz ymauchi even put it timed like the nissan 350z

  51. J.P.

    Great pics there. But where was Mika Hakkinen? I saw multiple DTM champ Bernd Schneider playing it.

  52. Bernd

    @ben – I don’t think it lost character, but what I’m missing badly: spectators. The Ring is the only track in GT without spectators. Search for vids on YouTube, and see 250.000 fans and thousands of tents around the track each year. Pleeeze Kaz, we would be content with a fraction of that, but give us some !!

  53. ralph89

    Wow!!! One of the best drivers in the world are playing GT5! That’s awesome.

    Loeb
    Häkkinen
    Hamilton

    I wonder if Michael Schumacher plays GT5 also.

    I’m glad to be a GT fan. :)

  54. Geo_212

    Gorgeous car + gorgeous game = total class. I’m just hoping the cars sound right, and not like a damaged blow-dryer.

  55. CanAm1968

    Wow! I have never seen graffiti look so DAMN good! I wish I lived in Europe near one of the Benz dealers so I could see the demo firsthand. I will just have to sit on my hands until GT5 is finally released. Someone pinch me when that happens!

  56. skillcoil

    Second Shot: Omg look at the trees .. they look way improved than any other racing game I’ve ever played.

  57. Sam__NY

    @SC

    Climate change? I’m pretty sure you mean weather. Climate change/global warming is a myth.

  58. SC

    Good news, it looks like there is time and climate change take a good look at these photos and other Nordschleife photos. Most of them are at evening but this one is at day time and it is pretty sunny.

  59. ismellbacon611

    looks like they have taken more time into track texture but the hills and trees are still awful…… lighting and car reflections are amazingly realistic ….. if polyphony keeps this up we will have a photo-realistic game on our hands!!!!!!!!!

  60. Crooooooow

    WOW! These pictures look way more different but improved than the previous GT5 graphics. AMAZING!

  61. John Marine

    My goodness… that’s beautiful! Never a Nürburgring fanatic, but that’s just impressive quality. Every new picture makes me want GT5 (as well as PlayStation 3) more and more. Just awesome!

  62. Devin

    Cool, now if i just buy a plane trip to Europe, go to a Mercedes dealership, and probably wait in the demo line, i can play for a few minutes…tear tear
