UK Residents: Play GT5 July 30th at PlayStation BETA

Sony UK has announced a special event known as “PlayStation BETA”, to be held for a select group of gamers on July 30th-August 1st in Birmingham. It’s basically a chance for members of the public to try out the company’s biggest upcoming titles, and you guessed it: Gran Turismo 5 is on the list. Here’s the press release:

“PlayStation BETA is our access all areas community for gamers. It’s an opportunity for us to reward you guys with trials of titles way ahead of release, invitations to exclusive content and an array of prizes to further enhance your gaming experience.

We’re inviting you to come and prove yourself on games before they’re released, battle it out with the best of the best, win awesome prizes, and speak face to face with your gaming heroes. While other people can only talk about future games, you can be launching yourself into them for real at our first ever BETA event in Birmingham.

So what kind of crumbling apocalyptic cities can you race through and what kind of power struggles can you get caught up in? For a taster of what’s about to be unleashed on the market, you can sample all of these at the event: Killzone 3, GT5, MotorStorm Apocalypse, LBP2, The Fight, Kung Fu Rider, Sports Champions, Heavy Rain Move Edition and many more.

We’ll even stage a MotorStorm Apocalypse tournament. The prize? The champion of each session not only escapes a natural catastrophe but also wins a Sony 3DTV. And if you can’t dodge enough flying concrete to claim a prize, don’t curl up in shame as there are limited edition take homes for everyone. And there’s free food and drink throughout, to fuel your shooting/racing/zombie addiction.

So if you want to thrust yourself into games no one else can get their hands on at the BETA event in Birmingham, sign up now.

The event is open to UK residents. To secure a place for you and a friend, send us an email on betarooms@scee.net before Monday 26th July along with your preferred date. You can choose from the following sessions:

Saturday 31st July: 6pm- 10pm

Sunday 1st August: 12pm- 4pm

Places are offered on a first-come, first served basis so don’t hang about. Don’t worry, we’ll be confirming venue details nearer the time but if you want to check out travel information, it’s within a mile of Birmingham New Street station.

I’d love to have a lot of GTPlanet users in attendance, so if you’re in the area and secure reservations for the event, please let me know! Thanks to everyone who sent this in so quickly!

well what a let down…got our hopes up again and gave us nothing new….I’m yet to see a new car at a new track with good engine sound…is this too much to ask?

  2. Bill Bishop

Went to the Beta event last night. Very disappointed. There were 2 setups running in 3D with dual shock controllers, and 2 setups with Logitech wheels. The 3D was very subtle to the point of being almost unnoticeable. The handling with the wheels was crap. All the force feedback was turned off. And the handling was no better than prologue. Didnt see any damage or anything else that wasnt in Prologue Killzone and Motorstorm looked pretty if you like that sort of thing.

  3. Vulcao

Today is July 30th. I’m looking forward for the impressions from the British guys, and maybe videos :P

  4. viejaloca

Why doesn’t Sony ever bring stuff down to Miami? And a MotorStorm tournament, damn I could’ve had my free 3DTV, I’m the top person in Motorstorm in Miami (still didn’t have my time beat in Sony Store Aventura in Rain God Spires 1:54:50, and it’ll be up there for another 3 months.) Lucky Brits, you get Top Gear and free Sony stuff, we’re stuck with Microsoft Marketing.

  15. The OGRE

    “One ticket to Birmingham ,please..
    Yeah,from St.Petersburg…
    So ,how much it c….
    WHAT???? ”

    two minutes later
    “damn GT5..”

  16. Skidmark

Oh…and how about so footage of courses we’ve seen before, Laguna Seca comes to mind as well as Seattle…and Paris. I love to visit France’s capital and see all the Paris sites :).

    1. Skidmark

Afin de ne pas paraitre zenophobe je dois avouer que j”aime les francais mais aussi j’aime bien les jeux de mots. Ce genre d’humor est plutot anglais bien que je sois americain.
Salut aux fanatiques francais de GT5.

  17. Skidmark

BETA would seem to be a misnomer…typically BETA is the last version before release that is given to actual users to confirm it is solid. BETA would have some hand picked users running with their own setups with feedback to the software engineers of problems.
This just sounds like another exclusive demo.
I hope that any videos which make it here will show some over turned vehicles and the resultant reduced performance.
That should really put an end to using your opponent as your brakes if you come into a corner with too much speed.

  18. randomer199

@Marcus and Mr Latte, that makes a third disappointed Northern Irish person! Didn’t know there were that many of us around, haha ^^

  19. Mr Latte

Marcus I know your pain. What happened to getting real cheap flights. Belfast – Birmingham is approx £150 sameday return, bah….

I hope those that do go can come back and give us some pics, information of their own experience in playing the game and of course all the other games including trying out Move and of course Tokyo’s favourite 3DTV.

Lets hope they have the E3 demo on show.

Those lucky enough to go have a great time!!!!

  20. Marcus

This is unfair. I live in Northern Ireland which is driving distance from birmingham but theres a freaking sea in the way.

Are beta events not like market research. A bit late in the game for that kaz.

  21. TokyoDrift

Joy, another “beta showing” of a game we’ve seen so many times already. Here’s betting there will be nothing new shown at all.

@Lachlan1662, what has Motorstorm got to do with GT5? :o/

  22. Lachlan1662

hey have u guys played motorstorm coz its hard the driving is easy but racing in motor storm is hard i have 1 and 2 and hav clocked em both but i tell u it was hard. any if u haven’t played then u should shut ur pathetic mouth.

    1. stevenhiggster

I agree with you man, Motorstorm is rock hard! The first few races and well easy but toward the end it’s almost impossible to win a race, I’ve had many a rage playing those games, love them both though and can’t wait for the third.
Sure it’s no GT5 but that doesn’t mean it’s not hard, any one who says otherwise clearly hasn’t played it right through.

  23. HugoStiglitz_420

lol why a motorstorm tournament? what skill does that game require? lol it’s laughable that gt5 is at an event where an arcade racer is having a tournament lol

    1. P37Mac

Maybe a sign that it’s the same demo on show at past events… That didn’t have multiplayer and had a low time time limit unsuitable for tournaments etc.

    2. Erik

Or because it’s a game where no skills are required, so virtually every gamer can participate in the tournament.

    3. TokyoDrift

Right, Motorstorm doesn’t require any skill at all… :o/

The only thing laughable is your ignorance.

    4. HugoStiglitz_420

      @P37MAC & Erik Good points
@TokyoDrift Are you just saying that because you’re not good at it bcuz that would explain why you’re getting defensive. I owned it 2 of them so don’t try playing the ignorance card

  24. llllllllllllll

it’s beta not demo …….. why they don’t put the game beta and demo in the ps3 !!!!! >.< … why !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .. we all want to play them …

  25. organdonor

its gotta be basically like a demo kinda like what we saw at E3, I doubt they would show an extensive preview of the full game before Gamescon and TGS. If they do I would be suprised

  26. wsoul

Not cool… T_T Oh well… I’ll just stay here and play GT4 I guess… To anyone in the UK: Have fun you lucky bastards.

    1. P37Mac

Britain ain’t that small dude! Not every UK gtplanet user can make it to brum. Would if I could…

    2. Marcus

Love how people outside of the uk think its a mile big. I can’t make it because i would be on the move for five and a half hours not taking into consideration traffic

  27. Sam__NY

Aren’t they having an event like this in New York City as well? (Only in NY, it’s for “special” people only).

  28. RobGroove

Me and a friend have requested tickets. if we get lucky ill let you know. ill be recording videos and tweeting like a gamer possessed!!!!

  29. Malti27

Americans and British… relax. Thank God you live in two of the most respected countries when it comes to gaming. I live in Malta… (do you know where Malta is??) and we never get these type of chances! Thank God for what you get!

    1. Shokz

I think every Brit would know where Malta is at least :D I agree that it’s unfortunate that these things only come to the largest gaming nations – it would be cool if companies could hold small events like this all around the world (seems possible).

    2. Malti27

We get tonnes of sun – that is sure – and I love it :) I will be visiting England in less than a months time – I’m hoping that I will not find any rain :)

    3. FlareKR

We don’t have any videogame things in Miami and Florida, just trading card garbage and a crap load of music festivals of people I’ve never heard of or sound like crap. No one is at the beach cause it’s raining half the time, GIVE US THE GAMES!

  30. Ferrari

    I just hope ATLEAST they release a beta/demo to PSN+ members…

I’m holding off buying PSN+ until GT5 beta/demo is on it

  31. G

wait so they actually know that the uk actually buy games… its about time we got something… its for select gamers anyway so its still not a party…

  32. d3br34k5

I’m looking forward to reports out of that event, for sure.

Take it easy fellow North Americans, it’s not like the majority of us would’ve had a chance to check out GT5 in the 8 hours they’re alloting for play-time anyways.

We’d get the same information here on GTPlanet no matter where the event was held.

    1. robert

@ Lachlan1662 why you think i put ooops then fool……..besides i read this last night and already replied to it so up your pipe fool and wont see you there

    1. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

Is this beta only in Birmingham avaible ?
Is the beta a Download or is it like E3 where people can come and test it …?

ps:only some months guys then the game is realased

    2. FlareKR

Screw the GT demo, it’s gonna be the same stuff we saw at E3, I wanted to win the Motor Storm tourney…and then have a 3D TV ready for November 2nd :-D. Bring something to Miami SONY!
