The 2010 GT Awards are right around the corner, and Sony is taking applications from all SEMA attendees who want a shot at getting their car featured in Gran Turismo 5.
Kazunori Yamauchi himself will walk the show floor and personally inspects each entrant, choosing his favorite vehicle in five different categories: “Hot Rod”, “SUV”, “European”, “Domestic”, and “Asian”. These finalists are brought to the GT Awards party, where the winner will be announced and eventually included in a “future” GT game. This year, though, the official rules specifically state the winning car will be made available in Gran Turismo 5 (presumably via download), so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to give it a spin.
The awards have brought some interesting and unique cars to the series, including Art Morrison’s 1960 Corvette and GT4’s 1964 Buick Special. Check out the video below to see what happened last year:

Dear people who can’t read…..The game was done over 3 weeks ago. This has nothing to do with finishing the game. Kaz has already said it was done. They were only 3 days late on their deadline. The reason for the big delay was blu-ray manufacturing and the fact that the 3 days they missed meant they had to give up their manufacturing time slot at the factory. They have all the time in the world to do whatever they want now. Chances are these cars will be DLC or in GT6. Also, chances are that Kaz and the rest of Polyphony are on a much needed vacation.

Any time you build up a car to be used in a Gran Turismo game, that is a tremendous accomplishment. You get your car basically immortalized in perhaps the best racing game franchise of the modern era. Just as long as your car isn’t a beat-up Ford Probe GT with the side mirrors duct taped up and a “Princess” bumper sticker with butterflies on the rear bumper, ANY car can be immortalized. :)

Did someone just say DLC for GT5? Then I want updated NASCAR paint schemes. And if we get DLC, then they need to get us a full 16 cal field, instead of using repeat numbers in the field. If the full game comes out without a full 16 car field, I will be royally mad. If it comes out without 16 cars and no DLC in the future, I’ll be royally pissed! If for nothing else, NASCAR needs DLC for this game, cause everything changes in the next 5 years that we wait for GT6. Harvick has a new Bud scheme. But I guess we STILL cant see that one in a game huh? Damn Clinton. Tony Stewart is now Mobil 1. And it looks like the front splitter is gone after this year, with a more durable front end now seen on the Nationwide cars. Look at the diecast cars for next years cars as proof of this change. By the time we get the game, the cars will be obsolete again, even after they changed the wing to the spoiler in the game to prevent that happening. Thank NASCAR who cant seem to have two years of the same car and rules back to back for I dont know how long now.
Oh, and its sad that Im not eagerly awaiting Halloween. Not because Im a little kid about to score candy, its because Sony promised a new release date by then for us to get excited about, only to be disappointed again. GT2 is what got me into nascar. (Raceing modified ford taurus) GT3 had me researching the f1 cars from the 80’s and 90’s. GT HAS TO HAVE EVERY CAR! EVER! At least every car to win(any race) it is the only way for me to learn about them…then try to compare my skils to the heros who drove them. i think Kaz might understand what i mean, he keeps opening my eyes to new awesome cars and races…

It would be helpful if we could actually be able to play the cars in the game. Its obvious what this was, A Marketing scheme. All the other Game manufacturers manage to get their games out on time. Its funny how PD and Sony just carry on with their various shows and marketing and TBH it doesnt really look like they are that bothered about getting this game out to the fans who have stayed loyal to them for many years. It really annoys me whenever they do these Marketing shows and go on about the ‘Future of gaming’, Sure its going to be a great game and Sure they spent along time engineering it into marvel but what happened to the ‘future of customer service’. I put £40 down a couple of years ago and the only reason i bought a PS3 on release date, is for GT5, there taking the P.
Anyway, the new concept Lotus series should be good a good contestant for the future.

I’m hoping for a European exotic car, and one that’s not a lunch box of any kind. Would be intresting to see any other SUV into the game, I’m hoping a Cayeene or a Hennessey Cherokee SRT-8.

If anything, there usually boring American muscle cars. I like them but out of the choices I saw, I wouldn’t have picked them. I’d love to see Hennessey cars make it in.

I didnt realise DLC was a definite. I thought all this “GT5 will be released as a full game” was referring to a lack of DLC. Im quite happy about this, because if there are any cars that arnt in, theres always that glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel. I need that as a fan of Australian cars.
I guess the ‘full game’ stuff means GT5 won’t handle things the same way Forza did and a few other games do these days, where there’s content on the disc that you have to pay extra to use; Forza had 5 ‘VIP’ cars (800 in monopoly money, what’s that, like £7 for 5 cars?), Resident Evil 5 had Versus mode all along but you had to buy it separately, god knows why…
Hopefully this means GT5 will use a more ethical DLC model where you pay (if at all, and I can’t imagine Sony, the ones who would be pricing the DLC, would pass up the opportunity to get a little more money from the millions of GT5 players) for actual new content. Of course, if they release a premium GT-R pack with a load of re-skinned R32, 33, 34 and 35 GT-Rs, I’ll eat my own hat.

There could be a loophole in Sony getting to price DLC.
If they release the cars in a mandatory patch(like with GT5P) then Sony can’t charge for it.

Within the week, we have the faint promise from a Sony EU marketing guy that we’ll have a release date by the end of October. I haven’t seen any mention of a “date for a date” on Sony’s site. Do we really think we’ll have the release date (or next “projected date”) before the end of October?

Here’s to hoping GT5 comes out by Christmas. If it really is delayed several other months, I will be dearly annoyed, because I’ve been itching for a proper racing game since I had to give my friend his borrowed Xbox back and couldn’t play Forza 3.
So either, it’ll be in dlc form, and GT gets launched by Xmas, or we have at least a 6-8 month wait from the time a winner is crowned. . . great. Lets hope for the first, and hopefully it wont be alone.

Yes, I would like to see some DLC for GT5. There are cars I know that I would love to see but won’t be in the game from the start.
Awhile ago I thought about maybe, in the near future after release, that PD would obtain a license for Porsche and add DLC for that… but I doubt it. We’ll have to wait and see.
I believe Kazunori only ruled out additional downloadable content that you have to pay for. Considering several new cars were added to GT5 Prologue via download at no charge, it would not be surprising for GT5 to receive similar updates throughout its lifetime.
And a few cars for GT PSP was also downloadable on PSN 4 free.
DLC was inevitable, not to mention they’d already employed it with GT5p. He was only trying to say that the game would be content complete, i.e. they won’t be holding back stuff to beef up the game post release.

I would be over the moon to just have the FG and VEII models in there. Nothing special, XR6T & SS would be fine. I seriously doubt its going to happen however. BTW when the GT-HO drops, it will leave the 427 in the dust! ;)
