We now have what appears to be our first real look at the LEGO PlayStation set and the Gran Turismo diorama hidden inside it.
Just over a week after the initial rumor, a Brick Tap community member reportedly found the set already sitting on a store shelf and photographed the box.
Since the rumor first broke, a number of outlets and social media accounts have been circulating AI-generated “leaked” images of the set as clickbait. According to Brick Tap, which has a solid track record in the world of LEGO leaks, these new pictures are the real deal. Regardless, as with anything that hasn’t been confirmed by LEGO or Sony, the details are unofficial until they say otherwise.
As previously reported, the sides of the brick-built console slide out to reveal two small dioramas, and the photos give us a first glimpse of the Gran Turismo side.
It’s tiny, so there isn’t a lot of detail to work with, but the evidence points fairly clearly to a depiction of Autumn Ring (or more appropriately, Autumn Ring Mini).
The foliage has some reds and oranges, matching the track’s autumn leaf theme, and there are rumble strips along the edge of the little strip of tarmac. Rounding it out is a few tiny depictions of buildings and cars.
Autumn Ring is one of the original 1997 Gran Turismo circuits and was a mainstay of the series through GT6 before disappearing from GT Sport and GT7. The other side of the console houses the Ape Escape diorama, exactly as the earlier report suggested.
Nothing in the new photos contradicts the original BrickTap report, which listed set 72306 “PlayStation” at 1,911 pieces and around $160, with a release date of October 1. Given at least one retailer has apparently already put it on the shelf, an official announcement from LEGO can’t be far off.
