The online LEGO rumor mill (yes, that’s a real thing) has been buzzing for months about a brick-built recreation of the original PlayStation console, and the latest reported details include a hidden Gran Turismo diorama built into the set itself.
The information comes via BrickTap, a LEGO news account with a solid track record on upcoming releases, citing “verified anonymous sources”. As always with unannounced products, consider everything below as unofficial until LEGO says otherwise.
According to the report, set 72306 “PlayStation” will be a near 1:1 scale model of Sony’s 1994 debut console, measuring 26cm wide and 17cm tall with the disc lid open. It’s said to comprise 1,911 pieces, priced at $160, with a release date of October 1.
Also included is a brick-built version of the console’s original controller (the pre-DualShock pad, without analog sticks).
The sides of the console reportedly pull out to reveal two small dioramas, one themed around Gran Turismo and the other around Ape Escape, with the set described as “full of easter eggs” beyond that.
Details of what the GT diorama actually depicts haven’t leaked, but the choice of franchise makes sense: the original Gran Turismo was the single best-selling game on the console, moving more than 10.8 million copies.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Gran Turismo has appeared in official LEGO form.
The McLaren Solus, heavily derived from the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo, joined the Speed Champions range in 2023, and the Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision GT followed in 2024 as the first entirely fictional car in the range, and the first LEGO set to carry the Gran Turismo logo on its box.
Brick Tap notes that pricing is “very up in the air” and subject to change, and none of this has been confirmed by LEGO or Sony. With the reported release date just over a month away, an official announcement shouldn’t be far off. We’ll have full details when it comes.
