Assetto Corsa’s Console Release Is Hit with Another Delay

Talk about unfortunate circumstances. As you’ve gathered from the title, Kunos Simulazioni have announced on the official Assetto Corsa Facebook page that the title’s venture onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has once again fallen victim to a delay. While no longer releasing next month, the new targeted release dates are August 26th for Europe, and August 30th for North America.

“A NEW DATE FOR ASSETTO CORSA CONSOLE EDITION

Global video games publisher 505 Games, part of the Digital Bros Group, and developer Kunos Simulazioni announce a new release date today for the Xbox One and Playstation®4 versions of racing simulation title Assetto Corsa.

The date is now set for 26th and 30th August 2016 in Europe and North America respectively.”

While the most recent delay hasn’t be detailed, it’s reasonable to conclude that the explanation given for the previous delay also applies here: the additional time will be spent polishing and making sure the console release rings true to the reputation Assetto Corsa has garnered for itself in the PC community.

As many already know, when the racer lands on consoles it will run at 1080p on the PS4, while the Xbox One version will have to sacrifice resolution at 900p, and both versions will run at a smooth 60fps.

AC Pre Order Incentives
Everything included in the “Prestige Pack” pre-order bonus.

While a bump in the road, there’s still plenty for console-goers to look forward to. With the 1.5 update now said and done, racers can expect to see the all-new picturesque “Black Cat County,” overhauled racing venues, an improved sound environment, as well as improved physics and tire model.

Mazda is debuting in the game with the first-generation Miata and 787B appearing in an update later this year, with further sports cars for the marque included in Japanese Car Pack that’s expected for the title’s PC version later this month – both of which are detailed in the final 1.5 Developer Diary.

Either my internet is acting up or GTP is, but Kunos just tweeted that May 18 is the release date. If this comes up as a double post it ain’t my fault!

  2. Schmiggz

Ridiculous! Why this companies still feel the rush to promote a release date when they know the odds of a postponement is huge therefore desilusion on thousands of potencial buyers?
Did they learn nothing with Slighly Mad? So much pressure, so much hype, disappointment and a game loaded with bugs and failures.

    1. Schmiggz

Not that much but, look at Poliphony as an example… Somewhere in 2017. When? We ask… Whenever is ready!
Hey, it’s better to expect a long wait that gets shortened than a small wait that gets enlarged, right?

    2. Johnnypenso

Plus, if we off everyone’s head that’s late delivering games there won’t be many devs left. There’s that.

  3. vrossi

I pre-ordered it last month…& PAID FOR IT!!!!
LOL(I remember going through something similar with GT5)

    1. Johnnypenso

They didn’t say it won’t be a prologue, they said it won’t be like previous GT Prologue games. Slight difference.

  4. Spagetti69

Oh that’s a shame. Was looking forward to this.
The next date doesn’t hold any more water than the previous dates given as far as I’m concerned.

Hope they get this right. Obviously issues to resolve.

  5. GordonS

Quite obviously ‘Neo’ edition grunt ahead.
Anyway, autumn is very acceptable release time. Go Kunos go!

Same story of project cars, months and months of late and words, they just want money and don’t care about the users.

    1. Samus

Delay the game and in turn sales revenues, and that somehow means they’re all about money? I’m not sure I follow your logic, if you can even call it that.

    2. Johnnypenso

So what you’re saying is, promise your customers delivery on a certain date, fail to deliver and then you make more money? Have you called Amazon to tell them they’ve been doing it wrong all along?

    1. Scuderia Paul

If they just wanted money and don’t care about customers then why not release it now?

I was seriously looking forward to Assetto Corsa in a few weeks, and am disappointed to see it delayed, but this additional development time will only improve the experience and quality and therefore we won’t be subjected to a bug riddled game like PCars – Gameplay wise I love PCars but it has far too many issues after being on sale for a year.

    2. Johnnypenso

Shot a 39 for 9 holes on Sunday, admittedly a short course though. Summer is looking good!

  7. Kurei

Can I get some credit for that opening image? (check the AC photo thread)

Also note, the machine is available in AC, but that particular skin is a mod.

Shame one of my nicer photos ends up with some unfortunate news.

    1. Michael L.

Yes you can! That completely slipped my mind as I was kind of in a rush when I was initially writing this up.

  8. SavageEvil

Will this have PSVR support as well? That pre order is lame a bunch of car that every one has used in other games as standard part of asking price…these guys aren’t thinking are they?

    1. Johnnypenso

Nope, not thinking at all. They’ve built the most successful sim ever on Steam with a core group of 11 or 12 guys doing all the grunt work and worked on a very tight budget hence the concentration on European cars and tracks. Sounds completely clueless.

    2. Donnced

Well.. They didn’t say anything about PSVR but on PC it’s completely in VR with oculus rift.
The cars off preorder are a free bonus, because the price of the game is the same with or without them (45’95€) in physical edition but the digital preorder with 3 cars instead of 9 on PlayStation Store is priced at (49’99€)

  9. Johnnypenso

Unfortunate. I really want to see these guys succeed as I see them as some of the “good guys” in the sim racing genre. Hopefully the delay doesn’t sour anyone against them. Godspeed Kunos!
