Forza Motorsport 6: Apex

Talk about being blind-sided: Turn 10’s Brian Ekberg has made it clear that racers with Windows 10 PC’s have more to look forward to with Forza Motorsport 6 Apex released earlier this year.

Over the past few weeks there’s been plenty of excitement in the Forza camp as the days remaining until the release of Forza Horizon 3 tick away. The beginning of the month saw the original Forza Horizon make its way onto the Games With Gold platform, available to all players with an active XBL Gold subscription.

We haven’t forgotten about Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, the latest free-to-play release of the Forza series and the first one built for the Windows 10 platform. Although it doesn’t feature the traditional hallmarks of the console-released titles in the franchise (online multiplayer, wheel support and livery editor), with 63 cars and approximately 20 variations of 6 playable circuits, the game still offers a tease of what’s to come, as future Forza titles will be released on Xbox One and PC simultaneously.

The flurry of whispers, theories, and rumours have all been confirmed, and laid to rest – Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, Turn 10’s first PC-oriented title of the series, has been recently launched as a beta for the Windows 10 platform.

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, the cut-down, “curated” version of the expansive Xbox One title launched last year, is finally here in the form of an Open Beta and exclusive to the Windows 10 platform. The title, first announced more than two months ago, is free-to-play and offers an experience that is “designed for players who are new to the Forza franchise.”

As Sony and Microsoft both continue to challenge the idea of traditional console experiences, Turn 10 has released the latest batch of info in the latter’s campaign. Forza Motorsport 6: Apex (first officially announced last month) is a cut-down, “curated” version of the expansive Xbox One title launched last year. As it turns out, those looking to get a taste of the game have only one more week to wait, as it will be launching in Open Beta status next Thursday, May 5.

Last month, we shared more gameplay details regarding Turn 10’s upcoming free-to-play Forza title for Windows 10 platform. Fans of the popular driving simulation series have been discussing the studio’s announcement that Forza Motorsport 6: Apex won’t feature steering wheel support. Among many of the things that are expected to be reduced in size and/or detail, this one is particularly alarming, as it can drastically affect the joy of playing a driving simulation on PC.

It was around two weeks ago when we shared more details regarding Turn 10’s plan to expand the territory of the Forza Motorsport series by launching a special title to the Windows platform. Known as Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, the new title was touted as a free-to-play, ‘slimmed down’ version of regular Forza Motorsport games, aiming for a more casual players.

It seems that recent indicators regarding a possible expansion of Turn 10’s ultimate seller Forza Motorsport to the PC platform are really becoming something to rely on. According to a cached version of an article at The Seattle Times (which was quickly deleted, though the details have now been made official), Turn 10 and Microsoft are working on an exclusive for Windows 10, titled Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. The game will appear this spring.
