Driving Physics Remain Top Priority for Assetto Corsa on PS4, Xbox One

GT Ace

Following hot in the heels of the news that Assetto Corsa will be coming to the PS4 and XBox One in 2016, Eurogamer Italy have interviewed Marco Massarutto from Kunos Simulazioni, the studio behind the highly praised PC sim.

An English translation of the interview can be found here courtesy of Google translate, however GTPlanet have been picking through the translation to bring you some of the key points discussed:

  • Sony provided Kunos with a PS4 development kit in late 2013, asking them to ‘play a little’.
  • Kunos have established an internal team dedicated to the PS4 and XBox versions, who will work alongside the PC team.
  • Console versions will feature the same content as found on the PC, with a target of 100 cars for launch.
  • The currently rather bare career mode is being worked on for console launch, with Kunos already speaking to players about this area.
  • Physics will be given first priority in the console versions, with Marco stating that “Assetto Corsa console already has the same feelings, dynamism and force feedback of the PC version”.
  • Thrustmaster, Fanatec and Logitech wheels and pedals that are compatible with the PS4 and XBox 1 will be supported, with hints that more may be yet to come.

I truly hope this statement from Marco is true and the physics and FFB is a direct port from pc to console. The game is a revelation in what is possible with FFB and feeling connected to the road. I like Project Cars a lot, but AC is even better in the FFB and visceral feel of driving a car IMO. With a wheel it will be the best driving experience ever on console without a doubt.

I really look for this one. The cars list is short, but very attractive. Hope they increase the number of tracks.

    1. Johnnypenso

Me too, but I have to admit, having all laser scanned tracks does make a difference. Feeling every subtle little bump and nuance on a track, being able to match up real life inputs with game inputs is both fascinating and immersive. Every laser scanned track is worth 2 or 3 that aren’t, to me anyway.

Drive Club, Pcars, Assetto Corsa, all on PS4. Will their be room for GT7?
GT7 will have to be something VERY special in this company.
Sony would never let their darlings over at Polyphony Digital fail. Would they?

    1. Johnnypenso

Of course there will be room for GT7, most of us will buy just about any decent game on any system we own, even if we only put a few dozen hours into it. You can rest assured GT will be very pretty, there will be lots of new cars I’m sure and some shiny new tracks and the usual GT buyers will flock to the game as usual.

While I’m not the biggest Assetto Corsa fan in the gamingverse, I’m with those that these “prestige” racers, AC and P CARS, will push the competition to some extent, namely GT and Forza.

Now if Kunos is indeed asking us what we’d like AC to be on the consoles, I’m hoping you grownups suddenly realize an opportunity and get talkative with them. Particularly after a mouthy few here grouched so heavily at Kazunori paying them no attention whatsoever. So they say anyhow. ;-)

    1. Johnnypenso

The AC forums already have the devs communicating directly with fans and problem solving and this has been going on for a long time. Many, many issues have been raised in the past and some resolved, but with a very, very small dev team obviously not everything can get done. Remains to be seen how many staff they will add, if any, and how much time they will have to continue to deal directly with the players.

“You don’t explore much outside of GTPlanet much, do you ? :P”

I suppose you join forums of games that don’t particularly thrill you? That must be a lot of memberships. ;D

Your original reply is loaded with not so subtle digs at other games, false praise, passive aggressiveness and outright delusion. What kind of response to you expect from that?

    4. Kurei

So instead of confronting the fact that I proved you wrong, on 2 counts, you instead go for a tangent distraction…

Stay classy man, and consider yourself bested.

This just keeps getting more interesting (and just further confirms to me how lucky I am to have a PS4 just a month before). This is interesting here though:

“Thrustmaster, Fanatec and Logitech wheels and pedals that are compatible with the PS4 and XBox 1 will be supported, with hints that more may be yet to come.”

    What could that mean?

    1. Tenacious D

I suspect that with the new Logitech wheel all but confirmed, it could well mean that all the moaning and pleading and sore tempers voiced in SONY’s direction might get the G25, 27 and DFGT supported as well. Not to mention some new and specifically “PS4 liveried” wheels coming from all makers.

    2. TeamCZRRacing

You’d be wrong. It’s been mentioned that Sony has swapped control interfaces to the new XID interface, rendering previous-generation controllers unusable on the newer hardware.

    3. Coquico

Crossed fingers. If I would be able to use my DFGT right now, I would have a PS 4 and p. Cars, meanwhile I would be saving money for an thrustmaster wheel, and for AC. For the moment on GT6, but I want to be in the next gen right now!

    4. Johnnypenso

All Marco is saying is that if a wheel works on the console, it’ll work in the game, it’s nothing earth shattering. Whether the G25/27 or DFGT get backwards compatibility won’t be up to Kunos.
